Sorry, I was thinking 'I should go and get a few hours sleep' but decided against it since I said I would start at 1 pm...and for people, such as Drake, who get up especially early especially for it, it seemed rather selfish to do that. But yeah, lets kick it back to 4pm on a Saturday.

In 150 hours, from scratch, in a game which doesn't have a optional research system...

Sigh, yup, here is my mustard gas mine schematic: As you can see it works, the current goes round and the mustard gas emitter sprays the yellow mustard gas around. You are wrong, the energy that the device produces is greater than the energy the device uses, as shown here: [/sarcasm post] So...Once again...I reiterate: Without an understanding of the concepts involved and a way to test it in real life, there is no way for someone to test it.

I reiterate:

The point is that a mod has no way to test it and rarely is an expert on electronics... So I could draw five batteries and say 'Thats a particle cannon'.

In my experiance with Retech and Dusty....No. In my own opinion....No. Also an example why Schematics are not altogether useful in this kind of a game: [hide][/hide] Whats that? You have an unbreakable code? Well I have a computer. (Is it a computer? Can anyone tell what it actually is? It's Babbage's Difference Engine Number 2...But be honest, could you have guessed that?) Also, an example of why Electrical Drawings are not helpful: [hide][/hide] In the words of Rolf Harris: Can you tell what it is yet? Its an electrical difference engine...Enigma? *Pulls out pocket calculator* Eat Maths Germany.1 1. The Enigma and Computer were invented during World War 2.

Hey all, I have been thinking about the gradual production of a new roleplay, based, somewhat heavily, on Resident Evil 2. The game would not be run for sometime, since I am doing Space...and between Time of Glory, Space and Dungeoneering, another game wouldn't be clever. Now, the idea is a cross between Zombie Survival, Hegemony and Dungeoneering...How so, I hear you ask. Well, the idea is that there is a City. In this city there occurs an outbreak of a Zombie Inducing Virus, which spreads quickly. Each player controls 1 person, but this person may be anyone within the city...The Chief of Police, the Mayor, CEO of a Hospital...Or a lone gun nut...whatever you want, though the role of CEO 'Umbrella'* Corporation, the Company that makes the Zombie Inducing Virus has already been taken by Retech, since he fills the role perfectly. Each player has a stats sheet...and 10 of the people you have command of, as Police Chief, CEO or Suvival Pack Leader, will have one as well...If you have 15 Police officers then you will have 10 stated people and 5 generic police officers. As society innevitably starts breaking down it will be your job to keep yourself alive AND complete some stated objective(s). The game begins at Minus 30 Hours to Outbreak, with the game advancing at a speed of 3 hours per day. With a spate of gruesome murders in the forest outside the City having occured over the last five weeks there is mounting pressure for the City to do something about it. Winning the game will be conditional on fufilling your objectives and surviving, and will be decided 168 hours(56 days real time and 1 week in game) after the beginning of the game. Sleep requirements will be kept track of, with 21 hours(7 days) awake and 9 hours(3 days) asleep by default... if they are trapped in a Zombie Infested building they will stay awake for another 9 hours with weakened stats and after that has a chance of falling asleep every 3 hours...The chance increases every 3 hours they stay awake. Sleeping for 3 hours will restore them to the weakened stats level. Zombies and game logic are of the Resident Evil Varity and should not be confused with other types...or reality. The game will be pre-planned in detail...If you walk into a room you will find what is in the room and can take it or leave it. There is no way to make bullets or guns out of things you find lying around. There is four researches you can do: The Anti-Virus, the Type 2 Virus, the Hybrid Virus and Plot. Anti-Virus stops you turn into a Zombie if bitten, as long as you can make it. Type 2 and Hybrid are worth a shedload of points at the end of the game. If two people have it then the points are halved, three people and they are 1/3...and so on. Plot tells you the story of what happened. Research is done by finding bits of paper in labs and such. Each bit of paper converts to a percentage of the research. Weapons, Ammo and Healing Herbs/Sprays are also discovered doing the room to room searches, along with Zombies. The game would be played on the forum, rather than IRC, you give instructions and I give you the results based on who you sent in. So... What I want is a list of guns, ammo types, who you might want to play as and an idea of stats(What should be a skill). Any random thoughts you have about the idea are also welcome. *This name will probably be changed.

Perhaps we should list what is acceptable technology and what is not... Also: Tanks, with a year or two research, should be more than capable of pentrating trench lines... Likewise, with only short research creating Anti-Tank mines would be possible, swinging trench warfare back into the fray. While another short step into chain-sweepers would swing things back once more. From there the creation of anti-sweeper mines would take things back again. But such progression requires knowladge of what happened, or it cannot be embarked upon. More than this if I were to research tanks and not use them till I have a thousand, I could breach the lines and advance squarely before any counterance could be discovered, throwing the game into disarray.

Yes...but we are talking about you possibly taking Iberia =P
-
Iberia(spain) is neutral.
-
Can we have it that you waste 3 years of research on something rather than have it backfire on us? I never start with the intention of Gamebreaking, but rather problem solving...So me saying 'I begin developing a lawnmower like creation which I can drop into an enemy trench and have destroy the enemy' doesn't lead to 'Lisbon is attacked by lawnmowers that have escaped from a nearby lab, thousands dead.' It would also be nice to have dead-end research. I like the idea, only problem is Portugal isn't neutral, so either you would need to join the allies or I would need to leave the allies. And I rarely ever expand.

Sorry. The thing I would like people to learn from this whole thing is that AIs are long term...like a child...While you can make it fairly easily, there are lots of things you won't know about, and thus will make mistakes. Anyway, the SUE issue is fairly resolved. She will continue to exist in your head, offering advice, but is otherwise totally ineffective.
-
Its quite hard to take an interest when the game is on pause. But yeah, there are only two windows in which a lot of people join, and now that both of those have past the idea should be recycled.

Mather, I forsee whining in the future, so I have prepared a guide, outlining a possible plan for Portugal which gives me supreme power in 60 days. Archi's Guide to Gamewrecking...what NOT to do: Send the following document to the mod of the game. Stage 1: Stage 2: Then ignore the game for about 60 days, unless directly addressed, allowing your superweapon mature, and for everyone to become scared of someone else who is constantly winning. 1934: Begin use of the T-Cell against New Iberia, killing most of its population off. Feign ignorancy and invade New Iberia, joking that the Mod is awesome for helping them after such a long period of inactivity. Infect anyone who stands in your way, making sure to move as quickly as possible since the moment you do anything people will start researching the cure and the mod will, innevitably, give them an unreasonably short period of research...possibly even an Insta-Cure...Thats right, Mods don't care that you spent 60 days researching the Virus of Doom, and players think you just pulled it out of your hat...To everyone if it was overpowered on day one it is overpowered on day 61, 180 or 5 years later. Stage 3: 1936: Complain at the mod that your Virus didn't kill Hitler. Summery: (Replace [-----] with any term you choose, remembering that I don't look silly if your Cheese Warfare campaign doesn't convince anyone, you do.) Come up with a silly idea which the game isn't built to tolerate: [biological] Warfare Invent a codeword for it. This is vital because you can use your codeword instead of saying anything to do with what it actually is...For example, Mothers and Babies dying painfully is codenamed 'Collateral Damage'. Workout what went on in 1920 in [biology], this will make your idea seem reasonable. Use well known examples of [Viruses] and People related to [Viruses] to allow people to grasp what you are talking about. The likelyhood is that they are not an expert, nor do they know an expert, so if you can lie creatively, go ahead(this rarely works against me since I will hunt down the concept and educate myself). Give your plan a long timeframe. A month is good as Mods see that as way in the future, far removed from whatever is going on at the moment...Since Hegemony nearly always has some major disaster going on. It also makes the claim of [bio]-Warfare in [1930] seem more palletable for some reason. Provide no, or one link to support your argument, but use capital letters and quotation marks around keywords...preferably tweak the keyword slightly so it can't be searched easily but you can go 'Well, if you look here' to the mod when they tell you your idea is stupid. If you are going all out, explain to the mod in terms of Game Mechanics how the concept could work. This normally leads to the Mod suggesting something in counterance...AKA you suggest 'I develop my [Virus] over 20 years and each year the [Virus] becomes 4% more powerful, eventually reaching 80% power', the Mod suggests 'However you develop your [Virus] over 30 years and each your the [virus] becomes 2% more powerful, maxing at 60%' Where once it was IMPOSSIBLE, now it is maxed at 60%, and the Mod thinks they have put you in your place. Conclusion: So when you get the idea to build a 18th Century Coilgun, or a Steampowered Mecha in the Roman Era...Forget it. IT IS NOT CLEVER, SMART OR WORKABLE, BECAUSE PEOPLE WILL WHINE, THE MOD WILL GET ANNOYED AND THE GAME WILL BREAK...This means you lose...You don't win by default, you just lose. And no, 'Its my last resort' is not a good enough excuse to allow it, neither is 'I won't actually use it, I will just threaten people with it.' Two reasons: First, people gonna whine. Second, you end up pulling a Retech. 'OMG something happened over there, I am doomed, fire all weapons.' ------------------Guide Ends--------------------

I call Portugal. Thoughts: The two Americas should be changed to Federal America(Axis) and Free States of America(Allied). British India should be a should be a vassal, loyal only to Britian, but is seperate. The 'Province' system should be altered slightly so that the provinces are actually worth different amounts(this would take time, but could be done with a random number generator if in a hurry). It is ineffably tiring seeing people(Sere and Dungeonal) building the Confederate States of America over and over...As with the mad rush into Africa to grab as much land as possible. I would also like to see occupation drains....IE if you invade and capture another country you don't become massively more powerful in the next reset/turn. Maybe occupied provinces drain *2 their value for one year, and only generate 10% in the next year. That should help prevent steamrollering. (No you aren't a plucky young Austria solider with the idea for Blitzkrieg...you advance as a line! ) Final thought: Chemical weapons. They were used(A lot), they are not uber powerful, nor were they like a stiff breeze on a summers day(Annoying but ineffective). Same as Artillary, Machine Guns, Aircraft, Flamethrowers and Tanks...They were used, but they do not make up for not having a plan...Nor do they make a nominally good plan unworkable due to overpowerment. So can we just have a hegemony where if someone makes a brilliant plan involving the use of any of the above, the plan doesn't play out 'As bombs drop the crippling nerve gas bombs it turns out that nerve gas is ineffective against people with hats.' or 'The troops using the planes, who have been training for the last nine months, are totally unable to steer them and 90% explode on the runway, and the remaining 10% bomb their own side.'

Norway is a reluctant satelite of Russia. France is a full ally of Russia. East Germany is a reluctant satelite. West Germany is a fledged member of Russia's alliance. Italy doesn't care particularly.

The last two months have seen radical change on Earth, and not all of it was predicted. December 2090: Russia and the United States of California brokered an alliance, giving the USC eventual control of both American Continents in exchange for assisting the Russians with the then unusable American Defence Net. The USC agreed with only two conditions: First was that Russia would need to crush the 'New Republic' formed around the Great Lakes, a throw back to Canadianism. Second was that Russia would break off ties with Argentina and drive them back beyond the Panamal Canel. Will the ink was still wet Russia moved in and crushed the New Republic and broke off relations with Argentina, though did not yet declare war. Argentina took the hint though, withdrawing troops from Africa to reinforce their North America holdings. Chinese Africa, desperate for land and resources, foresaw this and rushed into a desperate alliance with the Terran Federation and Australia to take Argentine Africa. While Australia said no, the Terran Federation said yes, but meant no, driving forces into Chinese Africa, decimating their leadership, taking control, expecting some kind of payout from Argentina for this great service...none was forthcoming. With thousands dead and nothing to show for it but desert and desert beyond that, France declared independence, followed by Spain and New Bulgaria. Will France and Spain were internal, New Bulgaria was funded, almost entirely, by Russia. Almost immediately Russia recognised the new states, sending troops into New Bulgaria and aid packages(American Aid Packages) into France and Spain. The Terran Federation, battered from constant warring and this blasted independence movement could do nothing...Neither Britain nor Australia was willing to enrage the Russian Bear to defend the defunct power. In Turkey the communists came to power, the election a formality since Russian agents walk the streets, a knife winning any political debate. With their victory they chose to join Russia...formalising what had become life. France announced the Christmas of Freedom, with the leader Pierre Chamberlain, holding in his hand a piece of paper, stating that Russia will never invade France. January 2091: The Terran Federation collapses. Russia and France meet to discuss the division of the Terran Federation. Both France and Russia want to establish a number of new, sovereign states, governed by the people who actually live there, not a centralised power. From this, West and East Germany reform, along with Italy and Island. Island comprises Britain, but Russia assures Britain that this will only occur after Britain has left. West Germany is largely Norwegian territory, which Norway refuses to give up, thus France and Russia declare war on Norway, liberating West Germany. Russia, aided by America and Europe, now declare war on South America, Britain and the Australian Commonwealth; launching surprise attacks in Scotland, Japan and Cuba. Britain, in the throes of evacuation, mounts virtually no resistance, falling within a week. Japan, likewise in the throes of settlement can do nothing but accept Russian Dominion. In Space the British and Russian fleets clash, the British having weight of numbers, while the Russians have easy targets in the transport ships. While Britain still burns, millions are killed as Russian ships kamikaze into the transport craft, turning America's vast, though heavily diminished, industrial powerhouse to spacecraft production. In America, Russians and Californians work together to slay the Argentinian beast, combining the high tech with swarm tactics. The Argentinians are constantly on the retreat as underground defence networks come online behind their lines, massacring their forces. In Oceania the Russians suffer their only real reverses, with Commonwealth forces taking the tip of India and the Island Fortress that is Sri Lanka, as well as advancing through Indochina. The only reward for the Russians to show is Taiwan. Africa, too, sees the Russians and Commonwealth clash. The Commonwealth liberates South Africa, while Russia pours through North and Central like a hot knife through butter, finally joining the battle just north of the present lines of battle in the West, and just south of them in the East, where Madagascar provided a key staging area. [hide] [/hide] Internally Russia has passed breaking point, with China, India and Terran Federation areas involved in bitter resistance fighting. Russia has reordered its Government to compensate, but the simple truth is that while the Commonwealth provides a viable alternative to Russian rule, the resistance will only grow.

Well...it only took 15 hours to read through the entire guide to Resident Evil to 2005, along with detailed analysis of all the actions and such...Overall I think it was time relatively well spent since now I have no inclination to play the games I haven't played(Which would amount to five or six days, or a fortnight including sleep debt)...and averaging a speed of 3 words a second I am reasonably sure my mind is active as ever, almost double what it was 3 years ago. (This includes a rounding down to the nearest thousand words to account for disclaimers and the like, which I glossed over.) It was also rather entertaining to read something written in forum style, (as opposed to dry textbooks or fictional story) with witty quips and such, without the inevitable sub-par comebacks (Which we are all guilty of).

Well, I am not saying it isn't fun...Thats like saying that bottled water isn't hydrating I am just saying that buying a tonne of stuff because you want to is about as much fun as staying at home and reading a book that you want to... However buying a tonne of stuff is considerably more expensive, less ecologically safe and just generally gets up my nose.

The generation that buys bottled tap water...what will they think of next.
