  1. Could just extend the 'No WMD' rule to include Firearms and Electrical weapons. Or we could go from the realistic angle and the fact that firearms took over 400 years to develop from the cannon(12th century) to the flintlock(16th)...and that the Bayonet was far more effective from the 16th century all the way up till the 20th Century. So simply put...Cannons are allowed from the 12th century, Flintlocks are allowed from the 16th century and machine guns are allowed from the 19th century. Though, to be honest it would have to be Fantasy or Modern...Like Dusty said...everything else doesn't work...
  2. You know...I think we could make Hegemony work....What we would need to do is create a thread which the moderator would update....And thats that. Everything else would be done in the PM-Verse. So, say someone(A) was invading somewhere( C ) and someone( B ) else wanted to stop them. A would PM Mod 'I am doing this' Mod would post 'A is sending between X and Y number of troops to C, they are travelling this way and will arrive in H hours.' B would PM Mod 'I am doing this' Mod would post 'B is sending between X and Y number of troops to C, they are travelling this way and will arrive in G hours'. Research would be: A would PM Mod 'I am researching this' Mod would PM back 'It will take about Y, give or take 50%' Mod would post 'A is conducting research into X, it will take about Y days.' If it was secret research then it would be: A would PM Mod 'I am researching this' Mod would PM back 'It will take about Y, give or take 50%' Everything would go through the mod, and if people want to argue about how amazing their new weapons are they can do it in PM verses each other...rather than in thread. What do people think?
  3. I am taking a few days off...if anything comes up pm me.
  4. I would prefer a fantasy one...But still
  5. Well, if people don't join this by tommrow then this is getting locked...
  6. Dusty could, but I doubt would. Troll, I don't know. Hex, no one would accept it Earth has said he doesn't want to... What are these old rules? Because they seem to be 'shout louder or give up'
  7. Ross would be my first choice, except that he is doing Dungeoneering, and modding both games is, as I know only to well, a full time job, plus school, plus everything else...So it would mean you would need to take his place in Dungeoneering full time, and I don't think Ross would give up his post quite so quickly... Rocco is my first choice, but something tells me that the job is just too big for him...Frankly, he would need to hold me, you and Mather in check...everyone else is fairly moderate after we three lunatics. Then there is the wading....I just don't see Rocco reading 8+ pages of arguing to get the 1 post that actually meant anything... If either of them wanted to start the next Hegemony then I would not argue too much, but I don't really think it would be a good idea.
  8. Hex, the third Hegemony was closed because no one wanted to play a game where you could not lose territory...or attack anyone who wasn't online at the time.... The whole thing was a formula for disaster.
  9. Well I am dead set against Hegemony V3 because Hegemony 2 was played as an Endgame....because people were still thinking 'Well this is it then'. Also there is, currently, no decent moderator for Hegemony V3.... I can do it but I seem like I am picking on people...and to be honest I am sick of being the whipping boy for the woes of the world. Other people I won't comment on...But there is no one who I would want to mod currently, for various reasons. Mainly that I don't feel anyone is up to the job of reading through technology posts and plans and all that jazz....and those who might tend to be disliked by people who then ignore and the whole thing falls apart... And not having a mod doesn't work because people 'magically' create technology and such...which just wrecks the game. Or, on the flip side, develops a really good technology, but whoever they use it against ignores it... So, to me, Hegemony V3 is something that should be shelved for the time being...at least until people have stopped endgaming, and someone capable of moderating the game steps forward.
  10. The beauty of it is that most of the complicated stuff is shifted to the moderator...just like Dungeoneering. After all having 2 dozen stat boosting necklaces, as well as 47 different skills which do all manner of different things....is complicated as hell...Especially when 7 or 8 people are doing it. Yet, because the Moderator does most of the work it all seems quite simple for the player. But, unlike Dungeoneering, it is on a big scale, like Hegemony!
  11. Just randomly thinking....What about a Industry Hegemony....Rather than running a country we ran different industries, competing with each other. It would definately be more numbers heavy (Well, actually it wouldn't have that many more, the income would just change a lot) than Hegemony is, but it would be a nice halfway house between Dungeoneering and Hegemony...Since people would begin research projects and then get decisions about how they wanted to proceed with the development each day, until they finally developed whatever it was(to be honest I am thinking Trains and Aircraft  ) at which point they sold or ran the product themselves for a profit. You could choose to specialise in one type of technology or have a whole portfolio of products to sell to a whole range of customers. There would be espionage obvouisly, and you could even 'declare war' on other industries... But remember both your and their country(as well as other organisations) may interfer, and they are(probably) a lot bigger than you are. You would be able to base your company anywhere in the world and would get random events relating to the country you choose. The game would start 1960s(Randomly chosen), so we can have a run up of sensible technologies before we start building space ships and such. Also....Patents....Obvouisly it depends on what country you are in, but generally technology that you don't develop yourself will cost a lot of money to use...up to 75 years, when it becomes free market...though obvouisly a big enough industry could influence their government.... If you manage to majorly screw up, or your company is liquidated because it tried to build an Atom Bomb half a mile from the Whitehouse...Then you can flee to a LEDC with half of your savings, taking a random number of blueprints with you. If you run out of money, depending on how you are doing, you can ask your country for a State Loan, for Nationalisation or you can declare massive profits, hope the share prices increase, sell up and flee to an LEDC with the money you got from your shares. Does anyone have any thoughts(feel free to say terrible idea  )
  12. People back stab a lot, but most of us trust each other enough not to change each other's posts or what have you....Hex being an exception.
  13. Yes...that seems likely, what with the high degree of trust we invest everyone with....

I think restarting Empire in a few days would be a good idea...Since there seem to be quite a few teething problems.
  16. Haha, I know that...yet doing something as simple as that is impossible for some people.

How interesting, to me it says: Where resource is the collective term for the other terms Ie, you can replace resource with any of the listed items. Thusly: Metal Ore will all be harvested at a rate of 1 Metal Ore per person. Diction is a funny old thing. Anyway, since I wrote it, what I meant what my meaning, sorry for the confusion.
  18. archimage_a replied to a_bert's topic in Falador Tavern
I always thought it was 1 person per resource gathered.
  19. archimage_a replied to a_bert's topic in Falador Tavern
So you created 12 colonies which created 300,000 resources(25,000 per planet, since population) of whatever type....and this paid for 6 new colony modules? It costs 50,000 Metal Ore, 50,000 Chemicals, 25,000 Organics and 25,000 population. So 6 colony modules would be 300,000 metal ore, 300,000 chemicals and 150,000 Organics....You are a day and a half over budget there....Easy enough mistake to make...
  20. People will never update their wikis though...and the people who do will say the people who don't don't get anything, so the people who don't won't to spite the people who do and the whole thing will become the focus of another massive argument which annoys everyone.

Err, colony ships should cost:(Battleship hull plus colony module) Metal: 175,000 Uranium: 100,000 Organics: 25,000 Chemical: 50,000 Quite how you managed to build 8 of them with: Metal Ore: 187,000 Uranium: 1,512,500 Chemicals: 545,500 Organics: 845,000 Boggles the mind. Unless of course you think that 1 colony module can create unlimited numbers of colonies....Which wouldn't work....For obvouis reasons... (I create 6 colonies, colonising all the planets in my system, I go to the next system and colonise all of them too. Also my population has increased by magically creating people to colonise with.) Also, quite why you are building a second and third colony on each planet is unknown when it affords no benefit but would cost you 1 colony ship per colony... Also, what does this actually mean? Resources within Capiahs combined(two asteroid belt planets in Alpha Centauri) Since, to me, the first number means the amount of resources stockpiled on the two planets, but the second number means nothing, since it can't be resources gathered, since you have nowhere near enough people for that....It could be the daily generation rate....but why you would need to post that daily is beyond me. Posted 08 April 2010 - 12:36 AM (first post) And today is the 10th....approximalty 19:00. So it should be another 5 hours until day 3....At least.
  22. archimage_a replied to a_bert's topic in Falador Tavern
Kinda makes sense. I continue shipping my people around and stop harvesting on my two new planets(Will edit out the other bit) Current: Metals 204,000 Uranium 400,000 Organic 787,500 Chemical 233,500
  23. Rules from Hegemony's past: Nothing bad ever happens. People can do whatever the hell they like, regardless of what the moderator or anyone else says. There is a moderator who can force any decision, even bad ones. I think that is basically the three rules from Hegemony...suiting the three styles of player: 'I play this game because I am bored so I just want to level up my civ' 'I play this game because I must own everyone and I can't do that playing by the rules' 'I play this game because it is fun, but everyone else is cheating.' Because, Space or Earth, those seem to be the constants.
  24. archimage_a replied to a_bert's topic in Falador Tavern
Yes... I don't think there should be a raid bonus. I think the colony bonus shouldn't be there(too late now but for the future)...since if you colonise 1 place you get your resources back so you can colonise another place, and then another. Retech, how can your technology be finished? We have a 4 day rule and the game started 2 days ago....
  25. See Poster. A new Hegemony would be a bad idea.
