  1. A tricky question. Some 'hard' quests are very easy using the guides, the only difficulty being how easily you can kill the boss. And your combat level obviously affects this big time. I did practically all the quests without using a guide and most at a fairly low level, so my answers will be different to others 1) MEP II - working out the light pattern for the last door took my 4 days, the week it came out. The handholds were annoying at lvl 64 agility not hard. 2) Haunted Mine - only quest where I died - got crushed by trucks 3 times in the boss fight. My own incompetence at work here. 3) Sheep Herder - I did this when the sheep could still block the path by the bank and it took for ever to get them into the pen. I kept misclicking. Many have really answered the question what was the most annoying quest. For those mine would have to be 1) Imp Catcher - it took me 3 weeks to get the final bead. At level 25 it was hard. 2) Hazeel Cult - the valves. I cheated on this bit and checked a guide after 2 hours of trying 3) Family Crest - getting into the perfect gold room, again checked a guide after trying for hours to work it out. Helios
  2. Ya, i can see getting over 1K an hour now... Already possible if you have done the right quests
  3. Everyone is going to have different responses to this question unless a better definition of 'skiller' is given. For instance there are a) pure skillers - i.e. those who don't train combat, Eternal Dad for instance B) Leader board skillers - the likes of zezima who try and max out their skills across the board c) Total level skillers - those who have reached a certain combat level and then go for maximising skills at that combat level like swampjedi d) standard deviation skillers - those who try and keep their standard deviation as low as possible whilst leveling up their skills, e.g. The Tip-It Editor e) Single skill officinados - those who go to reach a particular level of xp in a single skill or stay in the top few of a single skill - eg NOvalyfe when playing going for 200 million exactly in cooking and fletching Not a complete list by any means. These are all examples of emergent gameplay - not necessarily the way the game was designed but how we decide to play it. None are any more or less valid than others - it all depends on how you want to play the game. Helios
  4. It seems Saskia knows something...Maybe she is The Editor? Nah, she isn't balanced and her deviation isn't standard :)
  5. Having read through the previous six pages, I'd make the following comments - and note I'm a level 71 RC who uses the Abyss and someone who has never PKed. We RCers take the risk using the Abyss for slightly quicker Nature runs (and it is only slightly quicker compared to fairy rings). The PKers are annoying and I often wish they would find something useful to do or find a better challenge for their skills, but and it is a big BUT, they are entitled to do it. Most Abyss PKers don't know what they are doing and are easily thwarted, occassionally I find one who does know their stuff and fair dos I die but all he gets is a few pure essence. I drop my pouches and glory and get back to them before the minute elapses. The really annoying aspect of the whole thing is when I return with a few surprises for the PKer and they tele / run / log / call you names for returning the favour. Conclusion - RCers - lean the tricks to survive or minimse losses if you are going to use the Abyss. Treat the PKers as no more than annoying gnats. PKers - lear to take your own medicine when the worm turns. Helios
  6. Highly unlikely. I know some of them and innocent is not an epithet I'd use.
  7. Apart from forgetting to add in the weapon being used, you also have to factor in the cost of recovering the items by the person being Pk'ed Neitiznot Helm - 50K Fighter Torso - an hour or two in BA Rune Defender - about an hour to get a new one (on average) Achievement Cape - 99k No one with any real sense is going to go PKing regularly in this garb, spend half an hour Pking then get killed and spend 150k and 2 plus hours re obtaining the items. Its okay if you are in the low level wildy - you may be able to get back in time to pick it all up but up deep you'll have no chance unless on ancients. If I pk'ed as a warrior I'd prefer to wear tradable kit that is easy to replace and get back into the fray to recoup my losses. Edit - to put correct info re penance top before I get flamed
  8. Very useful guide - helps me to decide what I can discard from my bank Since Fairy Tales II came out, you can fairy ring to the Fisher King's kingdom and there is a magic whistle respawn in the first room in the Castle. Code is BJR. HTH Helios
  9. Hear Hear ! Swamp - good article, from this point onward I agree with you 100% - The way we interact with others in game is crucial to how we perceive ourselves and are perceived by others. Deliberate scamming, hacking, - no sod it, lets call it by its right name - stealing is NOT part of the structure of Runescape however you carve up; those who claim to be role playing by so doing are talking just so much bull. I do however have a different take on the comments made prior this. I have and will continue to use the phrase 'its only pixels' or 'its only a game' which amounts to the same thing. I do not use it as an insult; usually it is aimed at myself or to those I know well in real life who also play the game. Why use such a phrase you may well ask ? To me it is about perspective. Yes, this game can be fairly addictive, and yes, it can take over if you are not very careful. By reminding myself that that Mage Book I took weeks to get is only a bunch of pixels I retain my hold (tenuous as that may be) on reality. I constantly remind myself that it is not the item itself (i.e. the pixels) but the achievement of getting that item that counts. Yes, the item is proof of the achievement, but then so is a screen shot. One must remember at all times that this is a game, and the reason we play the game is for enjoyment and relaxation and this is why we 'invest time (and for those who are members, money) in the game. Let us equate the time spent in game with a 'satisfaction ' or 'happiness' quotient rather than with the pixel based riches we have amassed. As skillers, we both put more store on goals to be achieved and ranked than on the items we possess in game. others I know will think differently but that is the beauty that is Runescape. Just my tuppence worth. Helios
  10. Full mime (had for over a year now) Full lederhosen Full frog Never had zombie or cameo random. Helios
  11. You can see the new items @ runescape.com, they are not for f2p ( A large list :P ) I think he means which ones can be traded / sold on F2P - like god / trimmed armour Helios
  12. Of course you are right - totally forgot about that, so long since I read Colour of Magic. Being totally anally retentive, I read them all in order and store them on the bookshelf in my 'library' in the same order. I've only got 'Thud' left to read and I'm getting that as a birthday present to myself later this month ! Hairdog wrote: And the Varrock guards are ept ? They remind me of Nobby :)
  13. This route is not correct. Firstly, there is no need to go down at the begining - just relax into the ride and one down at the first cloud in the way is the only change you need for the whole of the first screen. On the final screen - you need to avoid the gull and the boulder - so a down and an up are required rather than straight across. Hence Blouinator's directions are the more accurate - just no screen shots. Oh and BTW - you get 2k of firemaking experience for each new route opened up. Helios
  14. For all Terry Pratchett fans, is this the first reference to Discworld in RS ? Taken from RS Behind the Scenes November The imp in a box made its first appearance in 'Moving Pictures' as Discworlds version of a camera. As they say on exam papers - Discuss
  15. I think it depends on your HP, because I got only 7 damage. . With 79 hp I got hit for 7 damage - so it looks as if it is 10% of your HP rounded down to nearest whole number. Helios Gamos All Quests complete at Combat level 86 since July 2006 All skills above 60 since June 2006 1600 total levels at combat 86 I really need to get a proper sig
  16. My thoughts for what they are worth 1) The cape automatically returns to and stays in the bank if your quest log is not all green 2) QP based capes are a bad idea - it doesn't tell you whether the player has done the hard quests or not - DT, MEPII and RfD can be missed out to get a 200 QP cape - and it will get easier as time goes on. 3) People have been asking for a Better Quest recognition reward than legends for some time now- this is Jagex's response. Legends cape is the second best in the game and you only need 107 QP for that. I have 120 more than that! A cape for having done ALL quests ought to give a better reward than the Legends cape. 17. Congratulations on a very fine achievement Thats it - thank you for the incentive. I've just completed my latest goal of getting 1600 levels at combat 86. I've been contemplating my next one and beating your achievement would suit me just fine. I'm going to go for 1700 at the lowest level I can achieve below 89. BTW, a year ago 1600 got one into the top 10,000, nowadays it is just out side the top 20,000. Oh, and one other think, Jorus is right. Using Velda for slayer supplies a very nice selection of NPCs to range or mage. I've got to 70 slayer on Range alone using him - I only burthorpe harpies, killawatts and green drags, everything else I range.
  18. AS you are p2p, I would suggest a couple of places to you 1) Experiments - no defence and 100 hp. safe, fast and easy, no drops 2) Caged Ogres in King Lathas Training ground - safe, fairly fast, easy, regular seed drops and big bones. Both need quests completed to access. the first the Creature of Frankestein, the second needs Biohazaard. Lessers are killed too slowly at your level to raise xp fast. I'm assuming you are usng an MSB and iron/steel arrows or Iron Knives - in either case use rapid - you don't hit quite as high per arrow / knife but fast. Over a decent period of time (hour or so) , rapid will get you more experience.
  19. I would say go to the ape atoll at 65. I get faster xp at the ape atoll than in the wilderness. Don't have to worry about the agressive NPCs or poison. Nor with the occassional PKer. I can stay atthe ape atoll forever thanks to my trusty knife and the pineapple at the end of the course. You do not have to complete the Monkey Madness part of RFD to access the course. You can however get to the monkey nuts if you have started (and not completed) it.
  20. There are 4 chaos druids on the ground floor of the tower. You could kill them for herbs whilst waiting for the chests to restock. There are also a number of ogres in the basement - they are useful for prayer leveling and also drop a fair number of mid level seeds.
  21. I agree - fires but forget glories just use duelling rings - castle wars to bank, then back to the duel arena. Its quicker than using a glory and a duelling ring.
  22. Non-member at level 45. Like a lot of previous replies, I wanted to do all f2p quests before becoming a member. Joined the next day.
