  1. That sucks, but luckily, getting shot is one of the coolest stories to associate with an injury.

    Ghosts

A couple of the pictures Barihawk posted are most likely people just seeing things where there isn't anything. Humans are extremely good at spotting things like faces, so good they will often see them in inanimate objects, shadows, etc.. where there really isn't anything. Some of them though like the mirror ones would take a little more explaining.
  3. I don't think you could really answer that without having a general idea of the mess/density/etc... I'm not physicist though. They would probably just release all the energy in the forms of movement/light/heat.
  4. Man, you guys are pretty OCD about this OCD thing.
  5. When exactly does hair make the transition from short to long?
  6. I find some new bug in my room every couple days because there's a leak or something somewhere in our house. It's pretty freaky turning on the light in the bathroom and seeing some huge spider in your sink. For a few weeks I had a spider living behind my desk, I figured since it already had set up a web there I'd just leave it and hope it would take care of other insects. By far the worst thing I've had to kill was some cockroach I saw on my floor. I grab the first thing handy to kill it with, the side of an aluminum PC case, put it on top of the cockroach, stomped on it and jumped on it, lifted it up and the cockroach wasn't even phased. I eventually had to pinpoint where it was and apply all the pressure right there, it still didn't completely kill it.
  7. My guess would be it's fake since the date at the bottom of the graph is from before WoW was even released. :P
  8. Not to derail the topic, but I think Sir Randulph Fiennes would disagree. :P It actually only takes a couple weeks to acquire a taste for most foods.
  9. While not related to the effects of caffeine, it sounds like you may just not be getting enough sleep. What kind of sleep schedule are you on?
  10. Failed because I couldn't find America. :(
  11. The real problem with nuclear energy isn't meltdowns, it's waste which has to be safely handle for hundreds of thousands to millions of years.
  12. If you take away a major part of the food chain, the entire community would be affected. I'm not sure I get your point. If the commercial farms producing meat disappeared over night and nothing was there to replace them then yes, it would have a large effect. In reality though something like that would happen over time, my claim wasn't that if they all disappeared nothing would happen, it was that if they were replaced it would be able to more than fill the gap.
  13. Thats only a paradox if people claim all those absurdities, which I haven't and I don't know if anyone else has. In modern society, for almost every single person alive, meat is not required to live. It's a fallacy and repeating it doesn't give it any more validity. If that happened, a lot of people would be [bleep]ed even if they eat meat. The animals you eat aren't being fed by sunshine, if food was that scarce they would likely be dieing too and/or the price of meat would skyrocket. But in reality, stuff like fruits/vegetables and really food in general is so globalized that while it would have a significant effect, it wouldn't be the end of the world.
  14. I think this has been said before, but most animals have little/no ability to make choices in their diets. Humans do and meat isn't required at all for us to survive. Its not Humans fault that we have choice and animals act purely on instinct. There is a big gap in difference between killing a cow to live and killing a cow for fun. Given that we do have a choice and informed decisions, it seems in our best interest that we do. I actually find it funny the way you phrased your second sentence. Commercial industry doesn't kill cows so we can survive. It kills cows so people can enjoy the taste of meat, essentially for fun. I'm sure there are people out there who rely on having to kill animals for protein and other nutrients, but when you're driving down to the grocery store and picking up 2 pounds of ground buff, it's not for survival.

  16. I actually went on a trip like that in 7th grade except since we were in Florida we went to Sea Camp (http://seacamp.org/). The bus ride we had to take was pretty crazy but we stopped in the everglades for like an hour or two. We left at midnight and got to sea camp at like 6pm. You've never lived until you've taken turns sleeping on the floor of a bus. Anyway, about the actual trip. Probably the best experience of my life. We went snorkeling on a reef, went out at night to look for stuff in the shallows and a ton of other random stuff. I could probably ramble on for a while but it was really fun and probably a big reason why I'm so interested in nature today.
  17. While whats being done at national levels in the US is pretty pathetic, to be fair, a lot more could be done on the consumer level too. Consumers often have even more control over what companies do than the companies themselves.
  18. Am I the only one who transposed/misread the words in the title and thought this was another topic about the John Kerry thing?
  19. The only real job you'll likely be able to get is something like bagging at a grocery store. You can't really expect to make much over minimum wage with a job like that; though it appears California minimum wage is current $7.50 and will be $8.00 in 2008. At 15 your job options are really, really limited so you have to take what you can get. There also may be various labor laws restricting when, how long, etc.. you can work.
  20. What is it about the movies that actually scares you?
  21. Holy crap thats annoying. Don't think you got the joke. :P
  22. No, animals don't have complex emotions and feelings like humans do. Animals are simple creatures put on this planet to serve us. We as humans rule this world because we have the superior mind. Animals are just simple creatures who run around and don't give anything except LARGE SMELLY TURDS. I mean, don't get me wrong. Animal cruelty is wrong, but you're not going to go to hell for hunting a bear. I don't care for farm raised animals, though. They're raised for meat and are made into meat, so we're all happy. You seem pretty certain for someone arguing a point thats almost impossible to prove. May want to do a little reading on the subject before you make unproven claims. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emotion_in_animals http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_cognition
  23. Man, I remember the first person who got a dragon medium but I can't remember his name. I do remember though that he sold it Pugxsi for like 10 million worth of items. If anyone remembers the name I'm pretty sure I would recognize it. EDIT: Thank you my list of most famous people! It was Valmont.
  24. If you feel you've got a good grasp of the material there's really nothing to be nervous about. Just make sure you understand what you need to well ahead of time and you should be fine. If that doesn't work you could always try green tea.
  25. I'm agnostic. Religion is something, in my opinion, you can't really make an informed decision on (at least in relation to God). There's a strong chance there could be a god as there are a lot of things in the universe that aren't explained by science or really by most religions. At the same time there are a lot of fundamental questions about life and the universe which are unanswered which leaves room for one to assert a god. I feel it's sort of ignorant to rule out the possibility of either situation.
