  1. your girl must be a lucky charm lol
  2. one thing ive always wondered, our earth must be getting smaller. our upper atmosphere is always leaking out into space, and we are sending out things which we will never get back. there is only a finite amount of matter we are living on/in. i know it will never happen in our time, but what if we run out of earth?
  3. not worth it, you will just kill them and put them out of their misery. best way i can think is burn a leg, nothing life threatening. leave it for a few days and then burn the other. a few days later burn an arm. once all the main bits are done, give it a week to heal and then start with the leg again. do a full cycle of burning every limb for every life that was lost, burn 2 limbs for every close relative of every life lost, burn 1 limb for every house/important building etc that was lost (including houses where the owners didn't survive), burn a finger or toe for every volunteer firefighter/phone answerer/whatever who had to stop what they were doing for this fire. after that dump him in a dark cell 23.5 hours a day, and then push him into a small room with bright artificial light for the other half hour. make him live on ash contaminated water and bread (with vitamin pills or whatever to keep him going), and half fill hes cell with smoke. heat hes cell to 60+ Celsius 24/7, even in summer.
  4. i dont think any fire fighters have been killed. its mainly people staying to defend their homes in conditions where they stood no chance. they either then stayed and died in their homes, or fled at the last minute and died on the roads. Visibility on the roads is extremely minimal with all the smoke (you would be amazed), and a tree down, sharp turn or another obstacle would be almost certainly unavoidable. you either die in the high speed impact or crash, or survive it and get torched to death as the flames roll over the hill. Thats why your told if the fires catching up quickly and your on the roads to pull over, close all doors and windows, get down low and cover yourself in a woolen (or non synthetic) blanket. There was a picture on the news of a tree that had fallen down in the heat (gum trees lose limbs easily when its hot), and there were quite literally 5 or 6 cars piled up behind each other. they wouldn't have seen the stopped cars in front until it was too late (because of smoke) and would have plowed straight into the back of them. these kind of things arnt so predictable as you may think. one of the destroyed towns didnt even know the fire was coming untill the last minute, they thought the smoke was from one of the other fires. barely anyone did much to prepare to defend homes or pack their things to leave untill they saw the flames shooting over the hills, which by then is far too late, their as good as dead. fire travels extremely fast in hot dry conditions, faster than most people can run. when it hits the dry trees in forests it travels even faster. it burns so fast that it actually sucks the oxygen in around it, which makes it burn faster and hotter. this is known as a fire storm. it eventually gets so hot that the oils in the leaves of the trees evaporates, and explodes. fire then rolls over tree tops at astonishing speeds, feeding on oil from the leaves and dry vegetation, and sucking in its own oxygen. generally it cant be stopped, only contained and left to burn itself out. firestorms drag in so much oxygen that you will actually suffocate if you get to close to one, you will die (or at least be unconscious) from lack of oxygen before you die from the heat or flames. it was 170+ dead this morning, probebly alot more now. i wouldnt be suprised if it reaches 250 or 300.
  5. when explorer crashes, the start menu desktop and everything else but the background picture disappear. its like looking at whatever your background is in full screen without any icons. usually then windows restarts explorer by itself and everything comes back.
  6. you should be able to remove it simply by emptying the recycle bin on all users of the computer, C:/recycler is where the files are stored when you delete them in windows, and haven't yet emptied your recycle bin. there is a hidden recycler folder on every hard drive in windows, including portable usb ones (plug a usb hard drive into 1 computer, and delete a file on it. unplug the drive and goto another windows machine and plug it in. goto the recycle bin on the 2nd computer and it will be in there, waiting for you to confirm its deletion)
  7. Up here I'd say that 18 or 19*C is good Summer weather 19 degrees is a good maximum for our winters :). Mother Earth is amazing 18 or 19 is only a couple of degrees hotter than the winter temperature in the coldest places of victoria. (Source) I said just above 30 but I was a little off, it was 37.9*C. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3138865.stm and 37.9 is also only a couple of degrees hotter than general summer temperatures in the hottest places in victoria (Source) So basically your average summer temperature is our winter temperature, and your maximum recorded temp is our average summer temp. I didn't think Saturday was too bad actually, sure it was 45+ but i didnt have any big problem with the heat. theres no air con in my tin roofed, no front veranda (where the sun hits) house.
  8. just heard on the news 80+ people are confirmed dead :(
  9. There's one thing about your statement I'm not too fond of. Why would their family have to pay for it, when they had NO CONNECTION TO THE FIRES WHATSOEVER? The arsonists alone should pay for it. true, the family dont deserve to pay if they had nothing to do with it. but if they encouraged it, or knew he was doing it but didnt tell anyone, thats a different story.
  10. clay is for racing, tarmac is how you get there! nascar is boring. its even more boring than v8 supercars here in australia, and F1 everywhere. v8 supercars here is slowly turning into a combination of nascar and F1. It still uses cars that somewhat resemble what you would see on roads, but there is so much traction control bs and sequential gearbox rubbish. luckily it hasn't gone all the way to the bottom yet and turned to paddle shifts, but sequential boxes are dam close. out of all the v8 supercar seasons in the last 5 or so years, they have all been drop dead boring. 10 or so years ago (when i was young) they still had a tint of excitement in them. still, nothing beats seeing brock in mid 80's, back when there were other cars except for crappy new age commodores and plain stupid and shiety falcons. [hide=aussie lingo]btw for all you ford fans out there, in the 1986 (the first year i thought of googling) james hardie bathurst 1000, you came 4th (in a mustang, the only decent ford). the second placed ford didnt finish (also a mustang), and there were only 2 other fords (sierra and escort) that also didnt finish (where are the falcons?, oh i forgot there all on the rubbish dump). holden came 1st, 2nd, 5th, 7th, 8th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 22nd, 23rd, 25th, 28th and 29th. there were also 7 other holdens that didnt finish, 3 of which got further than your 2nd placed mustang. Source this was back in the day when winning bathurst actually meant something. there were all sorts of makes and models (so its fair) and the cars didnt have to be modified to run exactly the same, they were ACTUAL manufacturer cars. v8 supercars nowadays are not real cars, they are rubbish[/hide]
  11. agreed. being in a cell 23 hours a day, eating the same food, and talking to no one for the rest of my prolonged life (when im almost dead they will drug me up so i keep going) would be way worse than being killed by a painless, humane procedure. a painless death by drugs is alot better than what alot of people got (torched in their cars and houses), and no one that causes such pain to others for no good reason deserves such a painless death. unfortunately nothing anyone can do to whoever (if anyone) lit these fires is no where near enough to equal what this person did to others. theres now 66 confirmed deaths last i seen on tv, and its expected to reach 100.
  12. Yesterday was a terrible day here in south eastern Australia, it was the hottest day on record in most places, and the strong winds (and drought) made perfect conditions for bushfires. unfortunately there were fires, which have wiped out 640+ homes, killed 49+ people, and completely destroyed 2 whole towns. luckily the fires didn't get to where i live (the wind change predicted didnt happen untill later than expected). dad was out all night at the redesdale fire (hes a cfa volunteer), and said it was the most unorganized waste of time hes ever spent going to a fire. he was there for 4 hours before he even did anything, and after that all they did was drive around and look at burnt down houses. 2 towns have been destroyed completly, except the odd few surviving houses. one of which i went on a holiday to last year (marysville), which is said to have only 1 house remaining. (i can understand why aswell, the joints in the middle of the thickest forest you could imagine) heres the wikipedia article: Click. (already has a lot of information considering it only happened yesterday) has anyone on tip.it been impacted by these fires, or any bushfire before?
  13. get an ethernet crossover cable as nadril said. that will cost you next to nothing, heres one on ebay for 1 cent that has 3 dollars postage: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370153350399 just plug the 2 computers together with that cable, do any setup required to get it working, the then make a sharing folder on the new computer. get on the old computer and copy everything you need into that shared folder, then get on the new computer and move everything from the shared folder to wherever you need it. Otherwise KnightLite had a very creative and cost effective idea.
  14. im guessing most were just tracking cookies or something, i dont think ive racked up 1500 viruses and serious spyware in my life. This might be helpful identifying the ram. it might even have the type listed on the actual stick (one of the stickers). if its to hard to see in the computer, don't be afraid to take a stick out. make sure your touching the metal case of the computer at all times though with one hand, and use the other to unhook the clips (to prevent any possible static). ones you have it unhooked put one finger on one end of the silicon board, and the other on the other end and pull it out gently (dont touch the little chip thingys on the board, especially the pins on them. and dont touch any of the metal contacts where the stick plugs in). once its out don't do anything stupid like rub it along the carpet (no one would anyway) or anything else that could generate static. if worst comes to worst and you do manage to destroy it, dont stress out because none of the photos or anything are stored on there.
  15. if he/she doesnt store anything important on it, or has some way to backup his/her stuff, and the machine is a pre built it probably will have a recovery partion or disc. you could use it to restore windows to factory condition, which will almost certainly improve speed, but by how much depends what hes/shes been using it for and what programs he/she has installed over time. if its a ddr2 mobo, i would certainly upgrade the ram. i just looked on ebay and found a stick of 256mb ddr2 for 5 bucks (aus). (enough to double the ram). ddr2 is cheap as chips and its stupid to be still using 256mb if you have ddr2. if its ddr then i wouldn't bother. a decent 1gb ddr stick cost me $100. considering the rest of the pcs specs i wouldn't be spending anymore than $50 or so on it. otherwise theres probably not much you can do. you didnt specify exactly what model video card it has, but seeing its only 64mb i wouldnt imagine it would be very high powered. you can only improve the rest so far untill you have to start finding old video cards that fit the old mobo.

brown snakes are very common in australia. im no expert in snakes and pets, or even snakes for the matter. to tell you the truth i have no idea how long a brown snake bite would take to kill an average dog. BUT i would imagine it wouldn't be instant. personally i think your dog will be fine when i was young (about 7 or so) someones dog at a local CFA event my dad was involved was bitten by a snake. no one had any idea it had been bitten (this was about 8pm and dark, everyone was by the bonfire). the dog could have wondered around for ages before it was found, but when my dad did find it he took it for a 15-20min drive to the vet. i forget what the dog was now, i was only 7 or 8. but it was average size, not a big huge thing some people have. no one knows what type of snake bit it, but judging by aussie conditions it would have been a brown or a tiger. anyway, it survived. TRY AND STAY POSITIVE!!!
  17. You would think their would be more terrorists, but it would probably be the opposite. Most terrorists commit there terrorism in the name of their god, its what they believe there religion needs them to do. These people are usually taking there religion to an extreme, but if there was no religion they would have nothing to take to an extreme. Hundreds of years ago yes, we didn't know jack about what made the sun rise in the morning. We could only imagine why, and most people eventually believed there was a god that made it rise. Over time anything humans couldn't explain (why are we here, the meaning of life, how do we exist, why does it rain etc) got attributed to this 'God'. It made people sleep easy at night thinking they knew the answer to these questions. Eventually all the answers to these questions were compiled, in a book known as the bible. Off course it probably didn't start with the sun rising question, no one knows what question it began with, it could have been any one of the un-answerable questions. Today however it is a completely different story. Anyone who still believes what is right or wrong based from things in the bible needs to wake up (eg believes the sun rises because god wakes up, or believes it rains because god is crying. These particular examples probably wont be in the bible, they are just examples). We have more evidence for the big bang then we do god, the big bang theory explains more questions than the god theory (which just raises more). It makes more sense to me that the universe is expanding because the bang is still in progress, not god is still growing or something stupid like that. if people still want to believe god created whatever was here before the big bang, im fine with that. we have nothing to say otherwise. i do have a problem though with people who believe god makes the sun come up. This is MY personal opinion, and im not saying im correct, but i do think people who strongly believe in god are those who have extremely little knowledge/understanding of science. the kind of people who are born and brought up in a strongly religious life, and are taught from day 1 that god is the answer to everything. it saddens me these kids are never given the story of science from someone who can deliver it properly (a science teacher), and are forced to believe the god story by their parents (or others) when they are too young to believe otherwise. i believed in god when i was 5, because i was too young to be taught about complex (at that age) science theory's and facts that explain my questions otherwise. as i grew up, i learnt from school and other sources information that explained my questions (at least more than the god theory did anyway), and i finished believing in god (as it is in the bible). the thing im against the most is people believing in the god theory souly because previous generations did. im not going to force my kids to believe in science, or believe in god. ill give them the facts and they can decide for themselves. imo, if every new child born from today forward was taught like this, religion as we know it would be 100% gone within about 100 years (assuming drugs aren't invented to make people live 200 years). religion may still exist, but to explain questions like what started the big bang, not what makes the sun rise. i believe not forcing kids into older versions of religion is vital. as you can probably guess, im an atheist. and finally, my answer to the OP'ers question: Religion, in its current form, was a benefit until about 30 years ago. Religion may (and probably will) continue to be a benefit in the future, but not in its current form. Religion needs to change now, because its only making our world worse at the moment. Im calling for a rewrite of the bible, one that says on the last page: "and on the 7th day god initiated the Big Bang, and life eventually evolved from the energy god placed to explode. God then sat down and relaxed, as he watched hes universe grow from the outside. THE END". last but not least, please stop making these god topics. nothing any atheist says is going to convert a believer, and nothing a believer says is going to convert an atheist. people decide what they are when they are young, unfortunately often convinced by peers/parents to believe in one side, and not getting their own choice.
  18. it is possible to backup any game that uses the registry, you just have to make a .reg file containing ALL the netrys the game uses, and then run it once you have reinstalled to replace them. the thing is, games often use many registry values right across the registry, and locating them would take ages. the solution is dont waste your time reinstalling your os so often. it has NO to EXTREMELY LITTLE benefit at all. make sure you have a good AV (Avira free, Nod32 pay) and ad ware programs (spybot S&D with Adaware) and defrag your hard drive often
  19. if it takes ages to load the router config, then thats exactly what you should be checking. if it wireless and you have a spare cable around, test it with the cable
  20. i like the idea of when im older and have my licence, saving some cash, packing up and going on a big road trip.
  21. its would probebly be easyier to get a capture card, but something like this could work aswell. viewtopic.php?f=45&t=780814
  22. thanks for the link. it made me think a bit, and i figured maybe i could use 3 rgb led's for each light, and then i could have 4 stages of each color (off, low, high, full) eg for red: off= have none of the red parts of any led going low = have 1 led part going, and 2 off high = have 2 going, 1 off full = have all 3 red parts going, to produce maximum red light. that would allow me to have a hell of a lot of different colors, but i don't think ill bother.
  23. just have 2 different directories at the root (en for the English website and nl for the Dutch). Build the website using html & css. all the content goes in the html file (have a html file for each page in each language in each directory), and every page (both dutch & english versions) use the same style sheet (css file). that way you can change the layout, border thicknesses, everything by modifying 1 css file, and it will update all pages in both dutch and English versions. that would be the way to go if your using html here is a great site for learning how to use html with css, it taught me very well anyway: http://www.htmldog.com
  24. ok well im looking to modify a dash and replace the globes with color changing led's, and a potentiometer to change each of the colors of the leds (one for red, one from green, one for blue) so i can change the color of the dash lights as i please. i found a hell of a lot of info at this website: http://led.linear1.org/category/led-basics/ but their is still 1 question bugging me, how exactly do you change the color of a rgb led. do you adjust the voltage or the amps? ive searched for an hour on google, and found plenty of tutorials to make self color changing things (such as things you plug into your computer and program) but i cant find any on how to adjust each color of the led myself. it seems like such a common question, yet i cant find an answer. can you use a potentiometer or how exactly is it done? what size pot would you use if you can use one? EDIT: ok it just clicked in my head, there are 2 types of rgb leds. the type that you either have each color on or off (eg red on or red off, green on or green off), in which case you would use the recommended voltage and mA in the datasheet (eg 20mA, 2v or something to have it on, none to have it off). this is all i really was looking for (ill just have a switch for each color), but im still interested. in the other type of led's (the ones that you CAN have different shades of each color, to produce life like colors) how is it done? i would guess with something like PWM (pulse width modulation), but if someone could confirm that it wound be great.
  25. true, but if your only using the computer for things that will never require anymore than 3 or 4gb, its better to just have 4gb of faster ram.
