  1. This is the case for everyone who isn't mad that they bought a longsword first and are now doomed to justify their decision for all time. As much as I hate even posting here to bring this discussion back, I'm definitely on the side of the rapier even though I bought CLS first. (Back when people still thought they were even-ish <_< ) Quickly saw my error and got rapier. CLS has a few small niches, but yes, everyone should get rapier first. To be fair, I went Rapier first and I've regretted it ever since. I'd really like to know your stats. You're the first person I've heard of who (I'm getting the impression) got the rapier then the longsword and actually likes the longsword better. I'd really like to know your stats and what you do with it. And lol @ above two posts: "You better be talking about X use if you say CLS is good. I am." I don't do anything with a Longsword, because I don't have one. I don't do anything with my Rapier either besides the occasional slayer task, and that's the problem. Since I've gotten my first Chaotic, I've basically only done the following: - Nex, where Rapier isn't that useful, even on mages - Corporeal Beast, where Rapier is basically useless unless you're fooling around - Dungeoeering, where Rapier is entirely useless - Training non-cb skills (Farming, Crafting, Construction, Fishing, Smithing, Herblore), during which Rapier is entirely useless I'd much rather have gone Crossbow - Rigour - Maul than Rapier - Maul - Crossbow like I've done. I might get back to Slaying one day, but I'm pretty sure I'd be able to afford another Chaotic long before I start power-slaying again.
  2. 99 Attack, 99 Defence, 99 Ranged, 99 Magic, 96 Prayer
  3. You look [bleep]ing hot, but that's a pretty worthless bind setup, especially if you broke a hood/hex for it. Jagex broke his hood and hex.
  4. This is not a bug. The Ring of wealth shines when it has affected the table from which your drop came from. It is not shining because it thinks the drop you got is good. Let's say, hypothetically, a Steel Dragon has the following drop table: Runite limbs (20%) Rune javelins (20%) Runite bolts (20%) Blood runes (20%) Dragon platelegs (5%) Dragon plateskirt (5%) Draconic visage (5%) Rare (5%) Whenever you kill a steel dragon, you get one of the drops. If the game decides it's a rare drop, it goes to the rare drop table instead. Let's assume it looks something like: Uncut sapphire (30%) Uncut emerald (20%) Uncut ruby (10%) Uncut diamond (5%) Half of a key (5%) Dragon spear (5%) Nothing (25%) The Ring of wealth modifies this table. The exact % isn't known obviously, but the effect was described as filling in the "nothing" slots. For instance, maybe Nothing becomes 5%, and each gem has a drop rate 5 percentage points higher. Your Ring of wealth will then shine whenever the drop you receive is from a modified table. In the case of Steel dragons, it will shine every time you get an uncut gem or a half key. However, it will not shine when you get Dragon platelegs, because Dragon platelegs are on the normal table, which in this case, isn't affected. For some monsters, the Ring of wealth will shine every kill. This is because for that monster specifically, the Ring of wealth affects the normal drop table. For instance, a Divine sigil is on the Corporeal beast's normal drop table (say, 0.05% drop rate). While wearing the ring of wealth, the table is adjusted and this rate becomes, say, 0.055% instead. Of course this would impact other drops on the table (albeit slightly). Maybe this reduces the likelihood of Adamant arrows from 10% to 9.95%. In any case, every time you kill the Corporeal beast now, the table from which your drop comes is modified by the Ring, and therefore it will shine. Spirit shield sigils are the only confirmed items to be influenced, to my knowledge, but for slayer monsters with specialized drops and a lot of bosses (God wars bosses, Dagannoth kings, Nex, etc), it also shines every time. This implies that items like Abyssal whip, Dragon boots, Granite maul, Dragon hatchet, Torva platebody, etc, have been influenced. In answer to the TC's questions, there is no "chance" for the Ring of wealth to activate. The ring will always take effect, the question is whether that drop table is being used or not. We do not know the amount by which drop rates are improved by, either.
  5. Why are you camping Ancient mages? Grand exchange prices for Ancient ceremonial robes are way off. A full set minus mask can be purchased easily for under 500K.

  7. Thanks for that. I will not use it yet. But some other time. I actually hate making of it most. Takes such time. +-500 hp stinks. Even if you get it back, when your at a boss waiting at 50 hp so that you get regen ain't a good idea. Use the Overload - log out trick. Saves 400-500 LP. And you shouldn't be safing against a boss anyways. Most of the time, it's safe hanging around 400-500 LP under max.
  8. MA gives a maximum of 12 ranks per hour. At the minimum, it would take ~25 hours to get 300 Rank. I wouldn't say that's way longer. Besides, even after you get your rank, you still need to play MA to buy rewards if you run out of credits. The spells stay forever.
  9. I'm not sure I understand your question now. Are you implying it's based on whichever player has the highest damage output up to that point? Because that's definitely false. I once went with a friend, duo-ing just for fun. I figured I'd use Divine / Rapier to see how well I could tank. Turns out, the Corporeal beast spent the entire kill attacking my friend pretty much, besides a few random streaks and after my friend died/teled. We did this 3-4 times with the same results - I got every drop. Having highest damage dealt to the Corporeal beast doesn't affect aggressiveness, nor is it damage in a certain amount of time, as I hit several good chains of 200+.
  10. You realize that the more accessible a money-making method is, the less profitable it becomes, right? If something is easy and everyone can do it, it will obviously pay less than something that takes special skills to do. OP doesn't have anything to set him apart, so of course, his money making methods will be "dry." If he feels his methods are too slow, then he's got to change his situation.
  11. Doesn't work that way between school/work/life's other curveballs. :P
  12. Generally, if you don't have at least 85 Dungeoneering, you're considered low level nowadays. That's not meant as an insult. It's just a general measure of how you stack up with other players. These days, your combat level isn't so representative of how good you are at combat. Dungeoneering, Herblore, Prayer and Summoning are all critical. However, Dungeoneering and Herblore aren't represented in combat, and Prayer/Summoning are given disproportionally low representation, not to mention there are significant breakpoints (96 Summoning is dramatically more important than 94, and the difference is only 0.25 of a level. 95 Prayer is a huge difference from 94, and there is NO combat level change there).
  13. The Corporeal beast's aggressiveness has two general "states." One of them is rather ordinary - it'll focus on and attack one player. It can still stomp other players, and one of its attacks has splash, which can still hit others too. The other state is referred to by many terms. I've personally heard wild, confused, berserk, zerk, angry, and evil. Call it whatever you like, but it means that the Corporeal beast will typically go from target to target. If the Corporeal beast is in the ordinary state of aggressiveness and is hit sufficiently hard (300+), it will usually change targets to attack whoever dealt that hit. I'm not too sure what triggers his less controlled style of aggressiveness, but it usually happens right as he spawns, or while he's switching targets. In either case, it usually lasts a few seconds before he just picks a target and settles on him/her.
  14. ooglog pool + shotput tokens should be the best if you're not going for variety. QFT. However, if you're collecting the tokens for hunting Dragon defenders / Cyclopean helmets, you're probably better off collecting tokens of every type. It uses less tokens overall (but this evens out, since some of the tokens are harder to get), and more importantly, increases the chance of finding Cycolossus, getting Dragon defenders, and also increases your damage slightly. If you're collecting the various types of tokens - Animation room: Animated rune armor has a good tokens / lifepoints ratio, and tends to break less often. However, it tends to have higher defence too. Try them first. If you find yourself missing a lot, try Animated black armor instead. Dummy room: Bring two weapons that can take care of all the dummies. Preferably, pick one that's good for all but one of them, and use another weapon for that last dummy, such as a Mace + Battleaxe. Catapult: Probably the slowest mini-game, but there's really no two ways about it. Shot put room: Like Grimy mentioned, finish "As a First Resort" and use the spring for infinite energy. That'll give you consistently good scores here without needing to rest, and very fast tokens. Jimmy's challenge: Like the Shot put room, your energy matters. Use the spring to get infinite energy before playing this game to minimize chance of failure. Ah, now I'm a whole new level of confused. Thanks for the reply, it was really helpful! Except...there's multiple types of tokens? I thought each activity gave a collective amount (I can't think of an equivalent mini-game) but does it gives different kinds, like the Mage Training Arena? It used to be like that, until the Dragon defender update. Now, your tokens aren't items anymore, but stored as points instead. When hunting for defenders, it will ask you whether you want to use one kind of token, or some of each.

Actually, it was never posted. I meant to post it after it was complete and I was comfortable that the information would remain up-to-date for a while. Due to the recent events (not quite related to the Exodus), I'm not sure if I'm going to post it at all. Anyways, to be on-topic, Divine/Elysian are not necessary. They're great to have, but there are some top-notch setups that don't even use them. Spectral is a bad idea though.

Rapier is great on the mages, but there's a few things to keep in mind. 1) While fighting Umbra, you need to avoid shadows. It might be hard to see if you're all packed together, + if you're moving around, you might end up with a whole block of shadows to dodge. Just pay extra attention. 2) While fighting Cruor, Nex will use a powerful splashing spell. Protect magic helps but it will still tear through you. If no one is drawing these attacks away, then Rapier here is a very bad idea, as you will all be constantly taking a lot of damage. 3) While fighting Glacies, Nex will still use contains, which are extremely annoying if you're all in one pile. Rapier is still viable, just a little frustrating. In general, Rapier does have better DPS, but the advantage may or may not be worth the extra effort and inventory space. It's up to you. Honestly, your description isn't very specific. I will say though, you should consider putting some damage on the Reavers. When Nex casts her siphon, all remaining LP on the Reavers is fed directly to her. In other words, if you do not finish the phase in that "round" (defined as between two siphons), any damage you dealt to the Reavers is essentially damage done to Nex. There's probably a lot more I could say on the matter but I've written an entire guide once... I don't really feel like cramping my hands typing it again, lol. I hope this helps.

Failed, as in you didn't get any kills at all? If that's the case, the biggest problem lies within your tactics. Are you avoiding attacks that can be avoided, using the correct prayers, using your special attacks at the right time, and dealing with her other moves accordingly? Your gear isn't exactly optimal. For one, Spectral is pretty useless. Don't use a maul with void and Rigour, better to simply keep ranging, especially with such a large team. Have everyone use Armadyl Chestplate + Void Deflector, with a top and melee helm for claw specials. Make sure everyone is 99 Defence / Magic, as that will help spread the damage more evenly. Ranger boots are a much better choice, especially if you go the Void route, as you need every bit of range attack that you can get. If you insist on using shields, lose the Spectral. It doesn't do you much good. Instead, use Eagle-eye kiteshield, or Divine/Elysian. Also, if you use that sort of setup, do not use Void - you won't have enough Range attack, since Void's accuracy boost is %-based. Honestly though, it doesn't feel like a gear problem. Even if your gear is considered pretty bad, it's not horrible enough to make kills impossible. With 6 people, you should've been able to manage 1 or 2 kills anyways. It really sounds like your problem was a lack of skill/experience. If your goal is to build a permanent team with your friends, then my suggestion would be to not give up so easily. Keep trying, and note what goes wrong, and what goes right, and keep ironing out the mistakes.
  19. Well personally if I were to choose between the 3 chaotics, I would buy cls first just because it matches my ideal gear setup nicely. All 3 chaotics are all excellent weapons. But I still acknowledge the fact that both rapier and maul have more uses than cls. That's fine. Personal preference is more than reasonable. But claiming CLS is generally better for slayer is blatant misinformation in light of all the evidence collected.
  20. Actually cls is a little faster at killing slay monsters from my observations im sorry, but thats just wrong. rapier > cls for slayer. full stop. Sir I'm almost positive that the cls is superior than a rapier for slaying and I've done tests in the thousands range. I thought trolling was no longer allowed on Tip.It.
  21. They are still 230M+? Very nice. :). Then again, with all the demand from people wearing them at SW, I'm a bit surprised they are not more. >.< We thought it was 150M. Was expecting 30m each, put it in GE at 170. Instant-sold for 230. :D
  22. After 180 dry kills, this was actually quite welcome. Virtus robe legs 5-man.
  23. My understanding is that they offered to do just that, but it's the Tip.It administration that requested they not be so hasty and wished to negotiate. Except the negotiates turned into a disaster in themselves, leaving users feeling terribly insulted.
  24. Whether or not it was done out of spite, I'm reluctant to submit anything to Tip.It in the future, now that (at least part of) the Tip.It administration has shown that they will not even respect the author's wishes with regards to his/her work. I'd much rather host it elsewhere myself and link people to it, or only distribute it directly to people who I feel need it. It's not about the specifics of the situation. It's not even about the legal hurdles. It's simply about the attitude Tip.It holds towards people who contribute such guides. Maybe you disagree. And if you're someone who has committed a hundred hours of research to a guide, then I can accept that you simply are more tolerant and selfless. But if you aren't, I don't believe you can understand how disrespectful this decision felt. One side has already "worked things out," as far as they're concerned. Some people here are happy with the decision, some are not. Honestly, it's rather annoying to frequent Tip.It, and realize a good portion of the valuable, high-end resources are gone, but I personally feel it was for the best. I have friends among those who are leaving, and I don't think they could have been happy here, as what they desire is something that Tip.It would have had a very hard time giving them. They believe they can create it for themselves, so there's no reason for them to remain here. The question is whether Tip.It is ready to change. A long time ago, when I first came to Tip.It, it was a community that put a lot of efforts towards improving at the game, and helping the newcomers improve too. Recently, it's been a constant flame war between the "efficiency trolls" and the anti-efficiency crowd, with some occasional "OMG WORST UPDATE EVER!" One of the things that set Tip.It apart from RSOF for me when I first came here, was that generally, players here were better than typical Runescape players. When the Dagannoth Kings came, members of the Tip.It community were there. When the God Wars dungeon came, members of the Tip.It community were there. It was members of Tip.It that discovered Rock Lobsters as a source of charms, and members of Tip.It that discovered the various design issues with Commander Zilyana. I'm not saying we were the best, or the farthest ahead, but in general, Tip.It was better at the game than the average player. These days, a lot of Tip.Iters are retired or semi-retired. Others generally don't have much time for the game, and play casually, not worrying about end-game goals and the like. Those who are knowledgeable about the game, to be blunt, simply aren't as friendly and inviting towards those aspiring to greater heights anymore. Advice given is frequently harsher than necessary, and there's a general lack of patience. I think the loss of these high level players is pretty devastating, and if Tip.It continues the way it is, it will never really become a top-notch community, in regards to Runescape. It may be a great place to hang out and socialize with people who might or might not actually play the game, but eventually, anyone serious about the game will be driven to search elsewhere. Some members of the administration here have expressed interest in starting a new forum to try to encourage meta-gaming. I can appreciate those sentiments, and I think if handled properly, it will allow us to create a more friendly environment in which experienced and inexperienced players alike can help each other learn more and become better at this game. But before that can happen, the general attitudes in the community need to change, I feel. These recent events have shown a lot of things - a lot of "elite" players let their arrogance get the best of them at times, some moderators and administrators are incapable of acting responsibly with their power, and in general, the community is very divided. These all need to be addressed. At the very least, there's far much bad blood between community members with different beliefs, and the administration has broken the trust of many players. I don't think simply sharing the ban process would appease anyone that's truly distraught. I've heard several of the staff admit, through various channels, that some of the bans were complete bogus. I'm impressed with their honesty, but we also need assurance that something is being done so that the events that have transpired will not occur again.
