Running around. Speaking from experience (as in, I did this), anybody who runs when Nex gets on them makes the kill that much more difficult. Nex has a devastatingly constant damage out-put, so doing as much damage to her as quickly as possible is essential to maximizing the amount of kills/supplies used. So if someone is running, it causes her to chase them and therefore brings her away from everyone else, lowering the DPS significantly. This, pretty much. Other than the shadow phase, don't run around. There's only a few very unusual circumstances where running away is actually beneficial to your team, and they're not expected from beginners, or even many veterans. But really, they'll make this quite clear. A brief glance at RSOF threads indicates that since methods are still diverse, they still state their method. Follow instructions quickly and well and you should be fine. For instance, even the "don't run away" is mentioned in many of the recruiting posts, as well as "break team mates free from ice." However, if you want to move on from RSOF teams, you'll probably have to get 99 Strength. Like you said, most of the big PvM clans blatantly require combat stats at a relevant maximum. For teams with less strict requirements, you still need to give them a damn good reason to pick you over someone who does have 99 Strength, seeing as 99 Strength is fairly easy to get and provides such a large benefit.

I'm in the same boat as you, so I wouldn't mind going with you. Although I probably have outdated information about what to do now. The few forum teams there are all seem to want people who are already experienced and threaten to kick those who aren't, so I can't really join any of them without having been before. Unless we find a full team of people like us I can't see a trip happening though. I've asked several people before and we've ended up not going. Is it because you're inexperienced, or because you're 90 strength? Maybe you have your own reasons for wanting to keep 90, but having 90 strength means your damage output with claws is automatically about 8% lower on average, which is crucial in pushing through the Smoke and Blood phase quickly. Barring that, just bluff and say you're experienced. If you've seen a couple videos, are at least moderately intelligent, have good reflexes and a level head, and can follow instructions well, you'll keep up with an RSOF team, experienced or no.

Beware! 'Jagex' scam email!
In response to Tripsis, You said that one of the few reasons that Jagex could rarely send e-mails for was for recovery quests. Well, I just got the following e-mail: I'm not sure whether someone's trying to hack me by recovering my account, or by sending me a fake e-mail now that they know the only legitimate things that Jagex would e-mail for.

Thanks for the answer. Well i have to start somewhere don't i ;) Seeing some people got picked up through these forums, i figured someone might give me a chance too. But perhaps i'm not that well "known" to be trusted. Really? Most Tip.Iters who hunt Nex seem to be doing so with OTG or PID. I've only heard of one other team here on Tip.It, really.

roughly half meleeing with turm and half ranging with rigour Why would it be that way? Can't teams just find 1 method and stick to it? Unless there is some benefit it doing it like that. There is.

Strategies and set-ups are changing too quickly right now, and too widely debated. Any "good" guide would easily have to be updated two or three times a week to keep up at the moment. If you just want a general overview, there's several videos on youtube (I believe there's one by Stokenut, and another by Wyodaniel, both which get the basic point across, but be ready for the strategies discussed to be obsolete in practice). In the end, nothing really beats going in the room to learn. Also, finding a team really isn't as easy as just casually asking people who don't know you. After all, you're asking whoever you're going with to put their trip at risk for your sake, and potentially trusting you with several hundred million.

Speaking of last night's profits, the Torva full helm sold.

Biggest reason is the ceremonial, really. But we just found out yesterday that even LS doesn't save us. :P I guess the other reason is that it gives us LSP to abuse elsewhere. Which Bladewing did, to snipe a Divine Sigil from LS Corp. The only other problem is that tanks would never get any effigies or charms. :(

Nope. Sorry but no good team is going to take you with those stats. 91 summoning means your overload supply is limited. Lack of Pack Yak is terrible for your team's efficiency. And of course, a higher range level is crucial. herby shouldnt be an issue because ill just stew overloads and prayers or whateve. that suck though. basically i have max range and get 96 summoning.. :ohnoes: thats gunna be dull.. and then if i get that but only had 100m or so to spend on gear..? Historically speaking, people with 91 Herblore are generally considered as not having Overloads, because: A) Even if you CAN stew to make them, you can't make that many of them. You might have 40-50 of them, but they'll run out sooner or later, and it won't be as easy for you to make more. If you had a good amount of them, you wouldn't be 91 Herblore anymore. B) People with 91 Herblore tend to be more conservative with Overload usage, even if it means not re-potting towards the end of a trip because you don't want to waste a dose for only 30 seconds of benefit. This, in turn, can end up costing your whole team more time and supplies. Even if these don't apply to you personally, this is the general opinion of people making Overloads at 91, so either you're going to have to show them 250+ Overloads, or a better herblore level. 100M should be enough for gear and supplies. A full set of ceremonial is ~10M. Ranger boots are ~20M, Amulet of Fury ~15M. That leaves 55M for potions, bolts, and armor. You won't have Divine/Elysian obviously but you could just get Unholy Book / Dragon Defender / EEKS. Speaking of EEKS, you will need some chaotics though. Exact number varying per team, but generally teams require anywhere between 2 and 4 chaotics (rigour being counted as one).- Nex

Strong survivalist's potion without needing two herbs.- How are you preparing for Bonus XP Weekend?
I'm pretty sure that's just your mistake, seeing as tree grow time fluctuates (they can still become diseased, and when they do they lose a cycle of growth even if the farmer cures them). Between 6 fruit trees and that many growth cycles it's not surprising that some take 2 hours extra. It's why I normally give them ~20 hours. :\- Nex
Finish maxing out your stats and gear, and join OTG / PID / some other big PvM clan. Some do LS, some split, so just make sure you find a splitting team.- Post all RS Screenshots, Videos, and Sounds here!
D'oh! Did you get back in time? Old pic, I don't think he even died.- 08-Mar-2011 Artisans Workshop
bots True, but that doesn't mean players can't do it to train smithing. :P It's not like you HAVE to have money to train smithing. Maybe you're a masochist...- 08-Mar-2011 Artisans Workshop
In comparison to the other skills that don't have price tags associated with it, 30 hours to obtain a 99 is a pittance. The true difficulty used to lie in gaining all that money, which was quite a feat of dedication. I understand the point you're making. Buying it doesn't automatically give you the exp and there is still a time component involved, I agree with that. I just don't feel that it was ever the main focus of that sort of skill because there was a very broad option of training methods there that other, generally considered more 'tedious/difficult' skills, didn't have available to them. Still, good point though. You also forget that training smithing / herblore can be very slow, and slightly profitable endeavors. Those cannonballs that people slay with have to come from somewhere, and plenty of people are too lazy to clean their own herbs.- 08-Mar-2011 Artisans Workshop
Money isn't the only challenge in skills like smithing or herblore. I've got the cash to buy 99 Smithing right now, and I'm more than willing to pay 10 gp/xp. Is it as easy as forking over 110M? No, not really, because there's a good ~36 hours of smithing involved even at 300k xp/h. Similarly, I've "bought" 99 Herblore (more specifically, I bought seeds and farmed herbs for a while and when bxpw rolled around, it turns out the overloads I planned to make will get me to 99). Do I have it yet? Nope. At least a couple hours of potion-making still separate me from 99. I know someone who "bought" 88/89 (not sure which) for bxpw, and a good 3-4 hours of potion-making awaits him on bxpw too. I don't know if I would say this update is amazing - there are many ways I feel it could be improved - but it's certainly better, in my opinion, than a lot of the suggestions posted here.- Post all RS Screenshots, Videos, and Sounds here!

Funny, that. So how does anyone ever learn how to do it, if nobody will take them? Go with RSOF teams that are likely not to bless you and steal your crap? Yep. Go with an RSOF team and watch out for yourself. Or bring a friend who also wants to learn, and both join the same team, so at least someone is watching your back. Besides, you can get back to the room in under 10 minutes easily, so blessing isn't a big deal unless you do something really stupid (in which case it doesn't matter that they blessed). How do you loot your items if you're being attacked by Nex? Say, you die near the end of a kill and your team teleports? It literally takes like 30 seconds from when you enter the room until Nex starts attacking. She either appears instantly or waits up to 5 seconds before shouting "AT LAST!" Then she slowly shouts the name of each mage. Then she shouts "FILL MY SOUL WITH SMOKE" or whatever. And then finally she attacks. You must be pretty terrible if you haven't looted everything important by then.- Nex

1) Go to RSOF, join a random team. 2) Fail miserably but at least get some firsthand experience of what to do. 3) Max out the appropriate stats, get the appropriate gear. 4) Look for a big PvM clan, or people here running more open Nex teams. Is it really that complicated?- Nex
Depends on which teams. The big PvM clans like OTG and PID probably won't - they expect perfection in gear and skills. Random RSOF teams won't care so much, but they're honestly quite terrible for everything except a learning experience to help you get started. The smaller teams tend to be kind of split. Some of them try to emulate the big PvM clans and expect perfect or nearly perfect skills and equipment. Other teams have different expectations.- Nex
Nex's magic attack does consistent hits around 200. 14% Magic soaking only applies to the damage over 200. At best your soaking might nullify ~20 damage, but that's a rare occurrence (soaking has no effect on her special attacks, which can easily hit over 700). Magic defense has a minor effect at best. Spectral doesn't really benefit you all that much. However, it will divert Nex's attention to your team mates - if you're going to a free-for-all, then magic defense is great. If you're trying to work as a team, passing the damage on to your team mates just means you'll have to share supplies with them, and you run the risk of imbalanced supplies ending your trip prematurely. Unholy book has prayer and more ranged attack, both of which are pretty useful. - Nex
