  2. no! cut the crap with the debate about true randomness in computers! this debate comes up every couple months! it's utterly pointless as their system is close enough to random that it works. even if there is a pattern to their pseudo-random number generator, it probably repeats only at huge quantities. also compfreak, i don't understand why you're using the word logic like that... "logic-based computer game" and "logical system" edit: -this isn't me goading you, i really do not understand why you keep using that word
  3. there are several places in the f2p area that are very hilly, and atleast with the chaos elemental, you know where it spawns (well, most would be aware of that)
  4. if in real life, you discard your pets this often, something is very wrong. if not, you've just invalidated your own argument. also i personally do not find the 'raising' phase in runescape to be all that great. and "a few less" would be x-y where x is the initial number of pets, and y is the number of pets afterwards oh right we're supposed to post our opinions, i agree that when you get to 99, and are a supposed master of the skill, you should be able to keep all the pets at once. it really would not greatly hurt jagex, since most people do not collect numerous pets. My point was that in real life, when a dog gets too old, or too much of a problem, you either put it to sleep or give it away. Most of the time, you would get a new dog, usually a puppy. RS obviously doesn't have much of a time scale, so you can pretty much decide when its too old and you get a new one. You can only have one pet out at a time, so why not cycle them? If anything it keeps you busy, trying to raise a new pet. just like our characters, our pets never grow old, or get sick. your runescape pet is eternally living out its golden years, there is no reason to kill it. You can only drive one car at a time too, but many people seem fond of collecting those. also party hats.

uh... this is really an issue you should be posting on your ISP's forums, under complaints... or just directly (e)mailing them

i think our definitions of lagg [bleep]e differ. for example, graph degree of lagg versus time, and we're both talking about a [bleep]e as in a shape like __/\__ but i think we're talking about this at different scales, the graphs of which would still look the same though with different magnitudes IE a small degree of lagg over a small time interval is what i'm talking about, and you characterize a lagg [bleep]e as a high degree of lagg over a longer time interval we say lagg [bleep]e whenever there is a noticeable pause, jitter, etc with our gameplay, perhaps a frame that sticks for a quarter of a second i think we've drifted away from the point -- i originally brought this up to prove that there can be serverside lagg, but my instances of it were not noticeable enough to greatly impact gameplay

Yea, I've had that happen 3 or 4 times in my RS carrier. Those rare lag [bleep]es ARE Jagex's fault, but are incredibly rare and not that big of a deal. I've never even DCed from one, it's just a quick freeze for ~.5 seconds. : perhaps it is just me, the circumstances, or the server i play on, but they are actually fairly frequent, and i've verified that they are indeed serverside because my friends and I find it very funny to remark on any noticeable lagg [bleep]es we have, and in many instances we all remark on them at the same time. it isn't even always during monster hunting trips where we are in one location -- sometimes we are all skilling independently, or several of us are playing castle wars and some are off doing their own thing, and those people are far away locations remark on it as well. i have had several very, very bad server lagg experiences, one which affected around a dozen people at once, while KBD hunting. as soon as we logged in, we all had action lagg, where our actions were very delayed (some said up to thirty seconds) aswell as freeze-frame lagg (where the frames do not show as fast as they should) aswell as other very strange things. many of us were randomly logged out, while in combat (yes, while in combat) and then when we logged back in it was still processing our previous actions (i had clicked teleport before it logged me out, when i logged back in i was at the lair, then the magic book tab opened and i teleported). it was very strange and i have never had that happen to me again, but it was very, very awful, and did cost a few of us equipment Do you all have the same ISP or what? I have Comcast, and I've NEVER had those problems, despite playing on and testing many different connections. I play on virtually every server, usually Australian or finnish for fewer people, despite living in Central US. I'm on comcast aswell, and it's usually great. these lagg [bleep]es aren't constant, and usually don't affect play dramatically, but we do all notice them at the same time, and usually notice a few of them per 'session' of playing together i don't think we all have the same ISP, some are on DSL etc i'm not sure though
  9. since this random event has been around for years, it is much more likely that you did not notice the pickaxe head than that the game has an error in it, because the random event has occured thousands of times correctly

  11. not sure if you're being sarcastic and pretending that 'internet extreme slang' is akin to french or spanish, or if some guy actually did try to talk to you in another language and then switched over. doesn't make sense either way honestly
  12. he could have just changed his name to that. if he wants to fight intolerance, that's his right. but it's not okay to use someone else to fight your battles... especially a baby

there is such as thing as server side lagg. haven't you ever been with a team killing something and all of you had a lagg [bleep]e at once? For instance, once at bandos the server lagged and displayed him as alive after he did his death animation. all of us saw that, and it is very unlikely our computers didn't simultaneously mishandle the code in exactly the same way, thus it was a problem on jagex's end.
  14. Smapla replied to Roberthree's topic in Rants
latency is a mutual thing. saying that kind of lagg is one party's fault is like saying your house is further from my house, than my house is from your house" but if you're talking about simply having a computer that can't handle running runescape, then yeah, that'd be a problem on your end, though again, not really a fault. some people just can't afford high performance computers.
  15. you shouldn't be feeding your dog while playing runescape =o a 'pause' button would be great though -- something that basically logs you out until you get back, and which point it'll log you back in without you having to enter your information

you really don't have a right to complain about charms. you barely have used up the charms you get as a quest reward. why are you trying to get crimson? they're not supposed to be that easy to get. try for gold, the things that drop those drop them fairly frequently.
  17. It will collapse, but your items will still be there the full length of time. As long as someone blesses it before it collapses, you have 60 minutes to retrieve your items. I've done it several times before, most notably at bandos, where I world hopped twice and still got back with 26 minutes to spare. that is very interesting, i wonder how many people know about that. i always thought the item pile / gravestone was tied to the player, not the world

"i don't speak chinese" what the hell is that? are you really that stupid, or do you think that speaking mandarin is a bad thing?

going around the room does not help... when i collected them heavily i trained on the same four for long periods of time and got a defender every 15 - 20 minutes
  21. he's talking about equivalent items for lower or higher levels, with the lower level equivalents scaled-down versions of the higher level counterparts, in terms of stats or overall power. the need to find equivalent items is because many lower levels can not afford higher level equipment, and thus must substitute other items in place of them. *with a hint of derision*
  22. Planning, testing, coding, major bug fixing, repeat until complete. You must never have worked on a project much bigger than a few lines of code, have you...? I don't even know how to code. But people can do all of that within a year, and Javascript isn't even as complicated as other stuff out there, I don't think. For example, I wonder how long it took them to make Godswords. In my mind, you would just draw the picture, give it an animation and implement it however they do it, and make certain things happen using "triggers" and "conditions". whoa whoa whoa hold up there Java is to Javascript as Car is to Carpet. Runescape is programmed in java, it's something completely different from javascript. and no you don't just "draw" the weapon, you have to create a 3d model, make sure it has animations for all stances the character models can have... it's just so much more work than that.
  23. they can also climb ladders. joy.
  24. Learn how to spell first please, bud. It's woulD thanks. Nice job picking on someone who actually used a hyphen correctly. Also he spelled the word correctly within the same sentence, so it obviously was not intentional. I also am curious about whether anyone -- or just people who have started While Guthix Sleeps -- can get the robe pieces.
  25. i used to think karil's would be interesting for wars, though that changed when the wilderness changed. running is key to surviving in wars so lowering people's regeneration rate would very drastically lower their chance of survival.
