  1. He's my favorite defective detective. I don't watch him all the time, but it is an entertaining show. The sad thing is I do this kind of thing - 756 logs, 140 iron bars, make potions in batches of 4's and 8's, etc. (I don't have any "partial" pots in my bank except a 1 or 2 dose anti-poison I keep on the top row for emergencies). Also, when I withdraw my money to deposit in Miscellania, I always leave exactly 100k behind. Pathetic, isn't it? - Sligo
  2. I've seen this idea before, and I do support it somewhat. I agree that it should be available to f2p (using a special teleport so they don't have to physically move it on the map - this teleport would be available for p2p as well - perhaps from the upstairs room in one of the Varrock taverns or something) I think short and quick games are ok, including card games. I shy away from Chess because it's too long and I can see people getting logged out just trying to figure out their next move, which would cause them to forfeit the game! (using a chess timer set to no more than 45 seconds might work, but I never actually played chess using a timer) Long card games are out as well (Someone mentioned Uno). Aside from copyright issues, a game like Uno can go on for hours. It might be fun, but I prefer to spend most of my online time training skills, and the games room doesn't promote this. I don't mind it as a diversion once in a while, but not to an excess. I think some of the carnival type games might be fun - stuff like throwing darts at balloons, racing toy horses, throwing balls into goldfish bowls, etc. Even to the point of winning tradeable prizes like stuffed animals. (Availability would keep these things from becoming excessively priced, and they'd make cute gifts from player to player - especially if they can be wielded like flowers). Just my thoughts... lol - Sligo
  3. What's the deal with using real life funds to pay for something in game? Not only do I not like that idea (talk about the weapon in a minute), but there are other mmorpg's who do follow that philosophy. Doing this you open a door that Jagex has expressly stated they don't want opened - otherwise trading real-life stuff for in-game stuff would be legal, as well as account trading and all that. Big fat no. Nada. Uh-uh. No way. End of discussion. Ok, now the weapon. If the power of the weapon is roughly equivelent to addy, then such an ability would be fair in game terms. Basically, you trade off the better weapon for more experience - but the drawback is that it takes longer to kill an opponent with this new weapon. As for rarity, I'd make it equivelent to any dragon drop from any creature that drops dragon items. Now here's the problem I have with this - by adding something like this, it lessens the likelihood of other rare drops by that creature. Not that I fear it would wreck the economy (it wouldn't, actually) but it would cause some of those rares to go up in price because they'd be corresponding harder to get. Would I actually use this weapon? At my level, no. But when I was at the level where the best I could use was addy, then sure, I'd use something like this. But this makes me think of another issue - it would make the retail value of addy items (specifically weapons) go down in price mainly because with this new weapon available, people will progress through those levels faster and thus cause the demand for addy weapons to decrease. - Sligo
  4. The depths people will go to scam others astounds me. I don't call this gold-digging, I call this scamming. Clear and simple. Now here's an idea. Someone wants offers to be your bf/gf, try doing the "if you love me, you'll..." trick on them. But make it stuff that will actually benefit them in the game. "If you love me, you'll go and mine 400 coal for me." If they go and mine it, then you say "If you'll love me, you'll mine 800 iron for me." The go and do that... Then you say "If you love me, you'll smelt all that steel for me"... And so on. Don't know if this will work. I have been the "victim" of the perpetual "please help me, you're a nice guy" beggar. Ignore lists are great, you know? - Sligo
  5. His desire is to carry both a wc axe and a knife in places other than the backpack. This way he can chop 28 logs and fletch them right away. Other than the fact that the numbers really don't show a significant benefit of this, I have another problem. The default "click" on a knife is "use". If wielding becomes an option for a knife, this could present a problem if the wield is offered as the first item in the list (the default). Which means you'd have to always right click to use the knife on everything if you didn't want to use it from your wield position. And if you did, you'd have to deal with screen swapping and stuff. I'd say it would be more of a pain than it's worth. - Sligo
  6. 1.3 and 2.0 are still two trips, because you have to always round up. I'm surprised you aren't using pouches when runecrafting. I can presently use 3 pouches and as long as they don't degrade, I'm getting 43 runes per trip, which is a significant increase in productivity. Remember that the people who first got to 99 RC did it when they could only carry 27 at a time. I can do the same thing with about 63% better efficiency. You know what? I'm not going to complain. (My efficiency will get even better when I can use the huge pouch at level 75). - Sligo
  7. Hmm. so you can fletch 28 logs at once instead of 27. I'm not seeing a big benefit here. So, for 1k logs, you have to bank and withdraw an additional 2 times. Of course, you could be like Adrian Monk and have to work it out so it is even every time. If this is the case, chop 756 logs, go fletch them, and repeat. - Sligo
  8. I was just thinking... Instead of "Music" as a skill, I'm wondering if the idea could be expanded to include "Performaning Arts". The main jist of this conversion would be the ability to "unlock" a lot of various emotes. We have a few things in game already that lean us to this - the Fremmy trials quest, the Mime random event, just to name a couple. In some other games (notably, Dungeons and Dragons) there is a basic characteristic called "Charisma." This is often misinterpreted as "good looks" but is better defined as leadership capabilities. My experiences in real life have taught me that leadership is something that can be learned, trained, and improved upon. I'm not sure exactly how this could be presented in game terms, but here are some ideas: 1. Negotiations with NPC's - We have the ring of Charos, but with a high enough leadership skill, you wouldn't need the ring. 2. Quest requirements - this idea opens up a lot of ideas in quests and mini-games. Your job is to lead a group of npc's into battle. The size and strength of that group is determined by your skill ranking. Say an army of gnomes, perhaps? I'm interested in what the rest of you think about this. Now, if you come back with "It's a stupid idea! They'll never do it" or "This has no purpose in the game" or (my personal favorite) "It will ruin the economy", take comfort in the fact that I will totally ignore your response and not have my feelings hurt because of it. - Sligo
  9. You think? Being a programmer, I suggest that it really wouldn't make a bit of difference. Basically, the table that contains your "banked" possessions has a new field added to it that tells us where it is located. The capacity of this table is expanded to allow more entries. Frankly, I have no idea how the data is stored, but I'm sure it isn't impossible. - Sligo
  10. Er.. Why? Actually, we've managed to turn what was a pretty lame idea into something that has merit and use. I think we've done quite well as a team. I think Jagex should hire us. (I can use the extra income) - Sligo
  11. Can you imagine people in RS going around pushing rustly old supermarket shopping carts, wearing 6 or so layers of clothing, mumbling nonsense and looking for handouts? Wait a second - we're already halfway there! *ack* Add to my previous suggestion: 5. A curio cabinet to put some the the various figurines, amulets and other knick-knacks in. Since this locks, you have to keep the key in your bank. (I'll trade 1 bank slot for 20 any day, especially since I'll put that key on my keychain) 6. A weapons rack. This will give you room to store up to 5 different weapons. Not a big tradeoff, but you can at least store away some of the weapons you never use, like Excalibur, Silverlight, Wolvesbane, etc. - Sligo
  12. You're banned because you're arguing about a stupid rock.
  13. And people thought Construction was a useless skill. I think setting up tabs in the bank is a great idea (in fact, I may have even thought of it myself at one point!). Especially if you can customize the tab names. The neat thing with it is each tab only needs to be 1 page, so there's no scroll bar - just space for around 40 items. But even with tabs, storing stuff in your house is a natural extension of construction. You should see my house! (the one in real life, that is) - Sligo
  14. We all complain that there isn't enough bank space. However, if you notice, each time the bank space is increased, it just gets that much harder to find stuff. Now Jagex recently provided a new method of storing stuff without using bank space, which lends us to this idea. In fact, with this idea, we could probably reduce bank space and not be a problem. The solution? Construction! Already, Jagex gave us the "bookcase" to store all those pesky tomes that we may need to refer back to, but otherwise just takes up bank space. Here are some more ideas: 1. Wardrobe: Store all the various clothing items here. Your prince/princess outift, your spare capes, all your party hats, whatever. I'd say a storage limit of about 25 items would be reasonable. 2. Treasure Chest: In here put all those quest items that you think you might need in the future, but not for every day use. 20 items give or take. The limitation is the item has to be 3kg or lighter. 3. Storage shed: The perfect place to store various tools, your sled, things like this. 10 item limit should do the trick. 4. Fibber McGee's closet: Ok, this one might be a stretch. Just put everything into this closet you don't use normally. Only catch - the item has to be stackable. Let's put the limit to around 15 items for this. You think with these simple additions, we'd easily free up 50 or so bank spaces? (Oh, by the way, just to let you know, as of writing this, I haven't actually started construction yet! Maybe by the time I do, Jagex will see this and implement it... But don't catch me holding my breath!) - Sligo
  15. Why? It wasn't my idea, and I didn't think of it. Google gets the credit (unless of course he stole it from somewhere else!) Also, nowhere in the forum rules said the suggestions had to actually be good suggestions. But as we all know, often times a bad suggestion or idea can be moulded into something reasonable, workable, and interesting. What gets me is when people post something like "I think Jagex should add something new. What do you think?" I'm thinking that should be filed with the "Department of Redundancy Department", because that's the point of this category - present your ideas, don't ask other for them! Oh well. Even me, the cool-headed, emotionally grounded, teddy-bear can get riled once in a while. - Sligo
  16. Ok, my two cents worth (four cents, since there are four suggestions...) I'll throw in another nickel regarding how this thread has devolved (One more penny and you'll get a dime.) Suggestions: 1. Drill Demon emotes. I must say I've never gotten that random, so I really don't know anything about it. More emotes doesn't thrill me, but it doesn't bother me either. 2. Activity message option. On the surface I like this, but I see problems with it. Mainly because these messages also tell you when you are done doing "X" things. (You have run out of logs...) I think the better solution to this is to do a variation of the split chat (friends/public) and instead of splitting out the friends, split out these messages. I don't think there's room for 3 message areas on the screen, but providing an option as to which messages you want split out might be a reasonable alternative. 3. Forum titles and post deletion. Are you talking about here on tip it (where you can edit your title, but not delete your post), or in RS's forums (where you can't do either)? I'll agree with the comments previously made about this - Allowing too much freedom can cause a major headache when moderating. Having been a moderator/administrator on a couple other forums, I know how hard it is to keep track of stuff. Giving the users too much freedom would drive the mods absolutely crazy (more crazy than they already are, perhaps? jk) 4. Report thread option. The RS forum has a special thread in the General area for reporting "emergencies." Anything else, their mods are pretty active and vigilent. As for copying Tip.it's idea, I doubt Tip.it originated it since this option is available on nearly every other forum I've visited. (I think it's a standard feature in phpBB based forums). Now the nickel. The reasons why you should or shouldn't bump your own thread, and why this thread really hasn't gotten a lot of traffic. Bumping threads in the RS Forum is a necessity because the first page only holds a few thread titles (15 or 20 if I remember) and the user-traffic is so high that a thread can only be expected to remain on the first page for a minute or two at best. However, here on Tip.it, the traffic isn't as great. Threads will remain on the first page for a day or two, if not longer (depending upon which category). This is plenty of time for other users to view your ideas and think about them. And comment if they wish. Now why hasn't this thread gotten much traffic? Two reasons, really. 1. The ideas presented here really don't represent radical change to the game - either in game play or by satisfying the needs and desires of most players. 2. The ideas present here aren't especially controversial. People post in a suggestion thread when the feel the emotional need to do so. Does the suggestion bring out enough desire to hit that "reply" button? When I read this thread the first time, the answer was "no." When I read it again, and saw the discussion about bumping, that raised my "reply to" level just high enough to hit the button and type this message. And I'm talking just. Anyway, that's my nine cents. Take it or leave it as you choose. - Sligo
  17. Have I developed a bit of a reputation here? Oh my! (In any case, I'll take that as a compliment - thank you.) - Sligo
  18. Interesting... Doing this often labels you as the immature one. I would think the mature person would ignore the original comment completely. I'm sure there's a difference of opinion here, but here's the point. If a person is acting immaturely, and they don't know it, "proving" it to them won't make a difference. If they are acting immature and do know it, "proving" it to them won't make a difference. Either way, your counter to their comment will do nothing with the possible exception of escalating the "argument." This is how flame wars get started on forums. It takes two to tango.
  19. I'd think it would be the dark wizards for two reasons: 1. Magic attack 2. Near a main route in and out of a city. Barbarian village is a close second, but their level is lower so they aren't quite as dangerous. One thing that got me early on was the zombie random event. I got one of those and thought (mistakenly) that it was a low level zombie like those in the Edgeville dungeon. Rather, it was a lot tougher and it owned me in no time.
  20. Since this thread is devolving into a flame war, it probably should get locked. As for people getting offended easily over the internet, I submit it is similar to the phenomena of road rage. There are two components, and both are equally important to the equation, because they are grounded in the same truth - anonymity 1. "Offensive People" People who are being rude because it is fun or they find it in some way entertaining. They like to make others upset. I don't fully understand the pathology here, but they can "get away" with it to some extant because we are all cloaked by the shield of the internet. The same person who insults you online very likely would never insult you in the same manner if you met in real life. The "cloak", if you will, allows them to behave at a baser level. 2. Getting offended easily. A lot of people take things personally. Because we are ego-centric in nature, we often don't see things from other peoples' points of view, and it's only natural that we internalize things that happen around us. Someone may be making an innocent comment and because you heard it out of context, you are offended. So what to do about it? First of all, if "someone makes you angry," It's because you are giving control of your emotions to them! You should remain in control of your own emotions at all times. I'm not talking about Mr. Spock Vulcan Logic and suppress your emotions. Emotions are appropriate. However, anger (derived from offensive comments or insults) is one you can avoid completely because when you give in to it, you are allowing that other person to control YOU. Secondly, cliche's aside, do remember that people are people, and people are sensitive (not just the women, but the men too), and you should consider your actions just like you were in a room full of complete strangers. If I were to walk into a classroom at a school and started shouting out that everyone there was a "noob" and that I can "pwn" all of them, do you think I'd be allowed to stay for long? So why should it be any different in the game? Just because you can get away with something doesn't make it right or appropriate. It's called integrity. Here's something to think about. Say the owner of a company is talking to the HR director about how to do laundry (why they'd be talking about it, who knows, but say this is the case). They are having this conversation in a public area, and just as the owner says "...And you should remember to separate the whites from the coloreds," an African American co-worker happens to walk up. Think about the example. Is it appropriate that the African American guy be offended?
  21. Au contrare, you nay sayers. What is the point of slayer? What is the point of agility? what is the point of farming or construction? The point is the same - it's a skill that gives you another option to do stuff in the game, to earn experience, to build quests around, all that. I do see uses for music. 1. Shear entertainment. We have all those "pointless" emotes, so we can have pointless musical performances, too. 2. Music soothes the beastly heart. If you play music, certain creatures won't attack you while wondering through their territory. Certain creatures that would otherwise kill you dead. 3. As an extension of crafting and/or construction, the ability to build instruments. Also the ability to play that organ in the Seers temple. - Sligo
  22. "Oh dear! You are dead!" Lol
  23. I don't know if this idea has been posted here or not, but it's a fun exercise to see what you'd put as your "examine" if you had the ability to write it yourself. I'd put something like, "Now there goes a really cool guy" What would you put in yours? - Sligo
  24. I've toyed with this idea for a long time, thinking that it would be cool to have a "mature only" server where the censors were relaxed and you could enjoy your time playing the game in peace, free from all the annoying kids, able to traverse the wilderness safely without having to worry about some stupid kid who wants to kill you for a map, sextant, and shovel. But I discovered something. Several things actually. 1. Age and maturity don't necessarily go together. 2. The in-game censor is fine as it is. I rarely have words censored out as it is. 3. Runescape really isn't the appropriate place to discuss adult topics anyway - there are plenty of other places (like here) to do that. 4. It's not such a bad thing to have kids around - in fact, most of the time they make the game more fun. Like, for example, I didn't become a youth hockey coach because I hated being around kids. I did it because I like being around kids and I like the opportunity to set a positive example for them. 5. An "adult only" server would be an invitation (or temptation?) for a lot of inappropriate activity - stuff I don't need in my life anyway. Think of it like this: If it isn't appropriate to say when kids are present, then explain to me why it is appropriate when they aren't? So, of Jagex introduced an adult-only server, I could say with certainty that I would never go there. - Sligo (an old, bald guy) P.S. Oh, by the way, I DO have a life. I CHOOSE to spend part of that life playing games, and one of those games is Runescape. I find it a great way to relax after a long and difficult day at work, and I enjoy talking to complete strangers about totally meaningless subjects like Herblore, Smithing, and Farming.
  25. Since the password entry process doesn't restrict what you put in, not only would it be darn-near impossible to do this (programatically), but what if the password happened to be a regular word? Now, I think the password change/entry should require both upper and lower case characters and numbers. With embedded uppercase characters, it would make it very difficult for someone to use a password that's been spoken in-game. Sure, they could try every variation until it worked, but that can be controlled by a three-attempt/lock IP process. However, this gets us off topic. What were we talking about? Oh yeah, the in-game censor. - Sligo
