Daily Posts
Believe it or not, Jagex conducted a poll about this a year ago. They asked about the desired frequency of updates and gave several viable options. The most popular response is what they are doing: Weekly updates with an occassional skipped week to roll out a larger update. And people think they ignore us. - Sligo

New Interface Button
That's ok. This is an idea that's been suggested many times. I'm sure Jagex is quite aware of it. There are a lot of things that can be done to improve the friends list. Some ideas I've seen or suggested: 1. Tabbed list for clans, friends, trading partners, etc 2. Reply last and Send last buttons (so you don't have to search for the name you are replying to or sending to) 3. Sorting options 4. Selective privacy settings - so you can be "off" to everyone but a selected friend 5. Login/Logout message suppression There's more, I'm sure. These are what I can think of right now. -Sligo

Farming Ladder
The idea makes sense in a way, but what I'm missing is how you get experience with all this. If the farmer is doing all the work, then you don't get any benefit from it - i.e. no experience. If the idea is you go and give a boatload of seeds to a farmer, leave and come back a couple weeks later and receive a huge load of produce and experience, I really don't think it's a good idea. Experience comes from activity. Otherwise I'd want to gain exp from the work my peasants produce in Miscellania. - Sligo

A New Rule We Desperately Need!
Why does this bother people so much? If some noob is following you, either walk in circles, walk north into the wilderness, teleport away, or just go on with what you were doing and don't pay attention to them. You are under no obligation to respond to them, and if you are made upset by their actions, it's YOUR fault, not theirs. The problem with this rule is that it is open to interpretation and is way too vague. Do you feel harrassed if someone stands in a bank yelling "Bank sale" repeatedly? Do you feel harrassed if someone just happens to be going the same place you're going and hitches a ride (by following) but says nothing about it one way or the other? Do you feel harrassed if someone on your friends list toggles their chat setting repeatedly spamming your chat window with "[player] logged in"/"[player] logged out"? How many more mods would be required to police this? How many more Jagex customer support techs would be necessary to deal with the thousands of reports flooding in under this rule? And most of all, what should be the penalty if they are found "guilty"? Is it the same as account trading or items spamming? Basically, when you think about it, this rule is completely unnecessary and uninforceable. Yeah, sure, ingame harrassment is annoying, but if it doesn't cross the line into things that are already covered under the rules, you're just going to have to grow a tougher hide and deal with it. - Sligo

Post Office
I don't believe that you should be able to transmit items from account to account when one is offline. Lots of reasons, not just trading between your own accounts, but issues like bank-space, inventory space, inactivity, etc, makes it unreasonable. Mainly, I'd say the reason is two-fold: 1. Storage space. Email databases are huge, and I think with such an in-game email system, the storage requirements would be exponential. 2. Security. It's enough to have to censor inappropriate language in the chat filter, the problem would be compounded in an email process. Along with this, there would be no moderator "oversight" ensuring that people behave. You think spam is bad in real life? I can only imagine what it would be like in RS! As for actually doing it, there would have to be real strict rules and processes to keep it from being abused and to minimize storage requirements. Here's how I'd suggest it be done: Sending: 1. Each player is only allowed to have 5 messages "in transit" at one time, and no more than one to a specific player. 2. Each message is limited to 255 characters. 3. Each message text is subject to the in-game chat filter. 4. You may delete an undelivered message to make room to send a different message or to free up room to send another mesasge. Receiving: 1. Once you've read a message, it is automatically deleted (unless) 2. If you have received an offensive message, you have the option to hit a report button which will submit the message to Jagex for review. 3. You have the ability to block senders. (Basically, anyone on your ignore list cannot send you a message, and if you have your inbox set to friends only, then only friends can send you message) 4. If you report a message, that sender is automatically put on your blocked senders list, and cannot be removed until after Jagex has dealt with the report (up to 7 days). In-game: 1. In order to send and receive messages, you must use a "post box". Post boxes are located at various locations throughout Runescape, and you have the option of adding one to your house. 2. To send a message, the cost is 100 coins per letter, plus 1k for transmittal fee. Receiving messages don't cost anything. 3. There is no refund for a yanked or undelivered letter. A final note: if you have sent an email that has been reported, you will be unable to send or receive email until the report has been adjudicated. If you report an email and have done so only to "lock up" the other player (i.e. the email does not break any rules), your email priviledge may be disabled or restricted. - Sligo

Good Behavior Award!
I've heard variations of this where there is a "good-deed" report and after so many of these, you get a black mark removed, or some other in-game reward. I'm not keen on the idea because it makes bad behavior something you can bargain with. There's a lot of ways this can be abused, and the biggest issue is how to keep track of it. You realize that there are over a million accounts (or so) and only a small percentage are the real trouble makers. With an idea like this, you are suddenly making it "Ok" to break a rule because there's no longer the threat of consequence (or, at least, the threat is significantly reduced). Also, how would you "time" this period of good behavior. I was away from the game on my main character for about 2 months. Does that mean I get credit for 2 months of good behavior? Or do we measure it in online hours? You want to figure out a way to keep track of that? I suppose it would be an interesting statistic, but I don't think Jagex wants to get involved with that. - Sligo

New Priest/Mage Robes(Example images inside)
The shades actually look pretty cool. Maybe we need a new "wield" spot for sunglasses, so we can wear those and our fave hats, too. "The future's so bright, gotta wear shades" or "What really knocked me out were the cheap sunglasses. Oh yeah!" or "I wear my sunglasses at night..." (Ok, I'll stop with the 80's remix) - Sligo

Tip.It Times Presents: Inflation and the Runescape Economy
Nice article. I always shake my head when someone comments about an idea in the suggestions forum that "it will ruin the economy!". This article, though not addressing the statement directly, does touch on why such a claim is bogus. Every update RS makes affects the economy. But because of high-alching, supply and demand, and the rarity of rares, the economy can never be "ruined." Oh, prices of items will fluxuate. But there are two constants that will ensure relative stability on the RS economy: 1. There will always be more new players 2. There will always be the desire of players to obtain stuff Growth and greed - count on it, and you'll understand why the economy cannot be ruined. - Sligo

(Revised) Just a suggestion....
Uhm. You're missing one part - getting the ess to the alter, so your comment doesn't make sense. Since crafted runes stack, you can already do this if other people run ess for you. Regarding the Pirate's Rum quest, that issue is already solved - if you teleport with the Karumja Rum in your inventory, the bottle breaks. Jdn92 - enabling and disabling the spell is an idea, but I think it puts too many constraints on it. Sure, I'd agree with the level 20 limit just like with teleporting. I think you misunderstand my point about power-skilling. Jagex discourages this technique, because they want people to experience different parts and aspects of the game in moderation. Drop mining (and its various forms) isn't productive except for increasing that one skill. However, banking what you produce will ultimately help other skills, which is what Jagex wants to encourage. Your spell will allow people to power skill without the penalty of losing the materials they produce. That's the unbalanced aspect. Truthfully, it wouldn't suprise me if Jagex introduces some form of this spell eventually. With the updates we've been seeing lately, I'm a bit amazed - new agility shortcuts (with the grappling hook), the fairy rings, etc. Pretty soon, you'll be able to transport yourself to and from a bank anywhere in the game - if you have the skill level and/or quest requirements to use them. - Sligo

(Revised) Just a suggestion....
I guess I'd better weigh in here. Sorry, I don't like the idea, either. I've thought about it before, and I've considered it, and wondered what the level should be and the runes it would require and all that. I've also wondered what it would take to open your bank from anywhere. Here are the reasons I don't like it (and the economy isn't one of them - I could care less what the affect such a spell would be on the economy) 1. Power-skilling. Jagex has repeatedly stated that they don't encourage power-skilling - such as drop mining/woodcutting/fishing/etc. You'll notice that just about every "gathering" skill has a corresponding "processing" skill. This isn't quite as true for F2P as it is for P2P, but the point remains: Mining -> Smithing; Fishing -> Cooking; Woodcutting -> Fletching. If you power mine one skill, you actually hurt yourself in training the companion skill. 2. PKers. Ok, I hate PKers. However, if such a spell existed, PKers would have nothing to gain. With this spell, your possessions are virtually safe within the wilde - you have your nice weapon? zap! off to the bank it goes. Your clue scroll goodies! whoosh! You get skulled? Oh, no problem - no risk because off to the bank goes my things if I start losing the battle. Just gotta stay alive long enough to cast the spell. (Did I mention that I hate PK'ers? Even so, they are part of the game) 3. Monster combat. Again, no risk to your things for tougher monsters, and for lower level monsters, you'd be able to train all day and still bank the goodies. As it is now, you have to actually made decisions on what to pick up and what to leave behind if you are fighting to collect stuff. Shoot, with this spell, I could bring 10k arrows into the ogre enclave, and pluck away at those poor blue dragons for hours on end and never have to come up for air, yet not lose a single hide or bone. So, this spell will unbalance the game. I will make power-skilling too easy and attractive by taking away the drawback to this type of training. And, for you F2P'ers who like to fish, it actually takes away your incentive to become a member, because as you probably know, there are two awesome places to fish for lobbies (and better) that are much closer to banks. Don't feel bad, though. When I was a nooby, I thought that this spell would be awesome for the same reasons you do. I also thought it would be cool to introduce firearms into the game. Amazing what you learn with experience, isn't it? - Sligo

~some idea's~
Pkers. Did I mention that I hate PKers? You guys keep wanting to add spells and tricks to disable the ability of a player to get away from a fight he or she doesn't want. I go in to the wilderness for 3 reasons: 1. Green dragon hunting clan event 2. Abyss 3. Clue scrolls (Notice that PK isn't on that list?) Unless I'm escorted with other players, I never go deep into the wilderness. Why? Because I don't want to get killed by a PKer! I want to go and get my clue scroll and get out. I have to go prepared to deal with the clue scroll (i.e. watch, sextant, chart & shovel) and that puts me at in immediate 15% disadvantage to a PKer because it's that much less food I can carry. I also have to be prepared for the zammy wizard that attacks. That drains prayer and other resources (food, etc), thus increasing my comparative disadvantage to a pker (or a pker team). Frankly, I work hard to get the stuff I have, and to get the clue scrolls. I have no desire for some PKer to come and steal it from me just like that. Ok, I know PKing is part of the game, and I understand the inherent risk of traversing the wilderness - otherwise there wouldn't be level 3 clue scrolls. However, it annoys me to no end that people keep wanting to add spells and such to make it easier for the PKer and harder for the victim. I think spells should be added to make life better for the victim - like an invisibility prayer or a "run faster" spell, or something. Oh, and did I mention that I hate PKers? - Sligo

New Items to Equip! THE BELT!
I like this idea. Yeah, it would take some graphical re-working, but here are a couple things you could do with it: 1. Money pouch - a place to carry money not in your backpack. Might also be able to put some cut gems there as well. (In other words, a plausible alternative to increasing backpack space, which is something Jagex refuses to do) 2. Sheath - Be able to carry an additional weapon not in your inventory. To switch weapons, right click on it and select Wield. If it is in the wield position, right click on it and select sheath. 3. And, just for fun: Smith yourself a belt buckle. If you choose "Texas style" you get a belt buckle the size of a trash-can lid and it actually gives you a defensive bonus. Requires crafting to put it on. One final note: you should be able to make your belt out of any kind of leather. Requires sheers, needle and thread, and a new tool - an awl (to punch the holes). The skill level requirements would be one level easier than vambraces for the corresponding leather type. - Sligo

Greek Mythology Missing In Runescape!
I'm thinking the same thing. Jagex has requested that no one suggest stuff about martial arts and oriental weaponry, probably for the same reason - it's inconsistent with the game mythology. On a comparative note, however, Jagex has included King Arthur et al, so the idea of bringing in another mythos isn't entirely unheard of. I will say this - you've done a nice job presenting your idea and putting together a good variety of items. It would be interesting to see how other mythologies could be incorporated, such as Norse, Egyptian, etc. - Sligo

All a hacker needs is your password to get your RS account
Actually, no. I've suggested these before. Unfortunately, changing the way you log in to RS would be very difficult for Jagex to accomplish. If they were to ask, I could suggest to them a way to do it, but it wouldn't necessarily be easy to do. - Sligo

3 lv woodcutters
Really? Maybe they just ignore you. I don't have a "pure" account, and I would never use an "auto-er" but this obsession people have with identifying cheaters drives me nuts. I could care less if another player is using an auto-er. Eventually, Jagex will find them and ban them without my help. As for why people have pures? Some people think it's cool. Just think, a level 3 combat and level 85 miner is probably a lot safer than me (level 100 combat/level 85 mining) in the wilderness mining runite. Just depends upon what your goals are and what you think is fun. - Sligo

a new way to "pay" for membership
I'm thinking that the amount of money Jagex gets per click is pretty small, so to do this effectively, you'l probalby have to click the ads several hundred times. To make this idea more realistic is not only would you have to click the ad, but you'd actually have to buy something. Unfortunately, for you to get credit for that purchase in RS, you'd have to provide your user name (at least) to that seller. Something I wouldn't recommend, since Jagex doesn't necessarily have control over all the advertisements, it would actually be possible for a hacker to purchase a banner ad and when you click it you get some kind of malware installed on your system. Sure, Jagex would figure this out, but the damage would already be done. So if you goal is to find a free way to move from F2P to P2P, I'd say, "Nice try, but no cigar." - Sligo

Runescape on the big screen :)
You guys have it all wrong! Years ago I was really in to Magic: The Gathering. Once the game got a decent foot-hold, people started writing stories based on the mythology of the game. Novels were published. Yeah, the first couple were campy, trite, and a bit goofy, but once they got away from the mechanics of the game and into decent story lines, the novels were actually pretty good. Before that? Dungeons and Dragson. I read the very first D&D based novel - Quag Keep by Andre Norton. The characters all had wrist bands with implanted gem dice. How goofy is that? Now there are movies and an animated series. So, what's wrong with a Runescape movie? If it is about the mundane stuff like skilling, PK'ing, etc, then yeah, the movie would be a bomb. But there are some really interesting storylines in the RS Mythology that could be the basis of a pretty good movie. And, no, the characters wouldn't go around calling each other noobs and stuff. Would I go see it? Sure... If I wait 3 weeks, I can see it for $5.00. - Sligo

rogues expansion
I like the concept of this idea. But as I usually tend to do, I'll take someone else's idea and make it better (well not always, but here's my spin). A "town" of rogues doesn't really work in concept. Rogues live under the radar in other towns. But, with the rogues den, we have the opportunity to develop the other things you suggest. 1. Hidden passageways - create a network of hidden passageways from the rogues den to other cities. Whether this is done by interconnecting the existing dungeons or actually doing them as a sort of teleportation, it doesn't matter. Either way, there should be theiving, agility and quest requirements to use them. 2. Weapons- I'm not sure adding special theiving weapons is a good idea. The problem is the idea of an "un-aware" defender, which doesn't exist in RS. Maybe a type of short-sword that can be poisoned. Faster than a d-long, slower than a dagger, stat equivelent to a rune short. Something like this wouldn't unbalance the game and would be beneficial for a mid-level thief. When wielded, your chance of being caught when pick-pocketing is reduced by about 10%. 3. Stealth jewelry - perhaps a use for an enchanted diamond necklace. This would reduce your chance of being caught when pick-pocketing by about 10%. Minigames - I like your idea of doing missions for the rogue leaders. Kind of like a slayer master, but instead of killing, you are assigned to steal x gp or x items from certain targets. When you "complete" the mission, instead of stealing money (or the normal item(s)), you get a special gem. Bring this gem back to the master for another assignment. - Sligo

All a hacker needs is your password to get your RS account
You know, a lot of this can be solved pretty easily - Instead of logging in with your character's name, you must log in using a user name. Ok, this won't stop everything, of course, but here's what it does do: It takes away half the information a hacker needs in order to hack your aco[bleep]. The next layer of security: The system already records your last IP sign-in. If you log in using a different computer, and the IP doesn't match (of course), you must answer a special question that you have set up for this purpose - not your account recovery question. (If you have a dynamic IP, or typically log in at different computers, you can note this in your account so it doesn't do this - but it's your risk.) - Sligo
