  1. I've actually read guides on how to arrange and manage your bank space in the event you have to go from P2P to F2P. I suggest you find one and study it if this is your situation. When I went thru a period of cancelled subscription, instead of complaining about life with my main character, I played my F2P character instead. Got the character up to over 40 combat and trained a lot of other skills as well. - Sligo
  2. 1. Why? 2. Yadda yadda yadda 3. rolling eyes 4. Do what? Ok, so the only one that I haven't heard before is the first one. Without a reasonable explanation, it doesn't have any merit. Sorry. - Sligo
  3. alc X? lmao you would gain mage lvls in no time.. Actually, no you wouldn't. It would take roughly the same amount of time as it does now. Just less clicking. Don't assume that an Alch-X would alch all the items specified instantly. The programmers at Jagex aren't stupid. - Sligo
  4. I'd like to know where you heard this. Rather than speculate, let's examine your source. If it is a credible source, then let's ask that person these questions. If not, then this is an exercise in futility. - Sligo
  5. The definitive Tip.it times article about the word noob was published last October, written by yours truly: http://www.tip.it/runescape/index.php?times=11 - Sligo
  6. Here's an idea. Carry your gold into the wilde, meet me there, kick me and get skulled, and stand back while I kill you. Your money is gone, and you have nothing to show for it! Wha la! (Just kidding, I'd never want to lure someone into the wilde just to take their stuff) On the other hand, I'll sell you 370 million nothings for 10 gold each. - Sligo
  7. Interesting idea, but it won't work in the genre. However, what will work is adding cart trips like Hajedy's cart (Brimhaven to Shilo and back) in other places. Here's the routes I would propose, and the quest requirements to use them. Each route would be roughly 50 gold. Al Kharid Castle to Draynor Jail (Must have done Prince Ali Rescue) Falador Castle to Varrock Castle (Must have done both Shield of Arrav and Knights Sword) Goblin outpost (north of Falador) to Lumbridge goblin area east of the river (Must have done Goblin Diplomacy) Wizard's Island to Air Alter (Must have completed Rune Mysteries) These routes don't particularly unbalance the game by providing duplicate travel destination spots (except Al Kharid Castle and Glory Amulet), and would be available in both F2P and P2P. The advantage is that these are more available to lower level characters. They are pretty limiting like the gnome gliders, but do give some flexibility. - Sligo Edit: As an added feature, future quests may actually cause these transports to become unavailable. For example, the P2P quest Garden of Tranquility would disable the Varrock-Falador line.
  8. Uhm.. I don't have any friends that ask me to go play pool. However, I do suspend my online gaming so I can play some live rpg every other week. This is so sad it's funny. I can go into a whole diatribe on your misconceptions about life, but I'll spare you. Let me just say this: People will set their priorities and do what they enjoy doing. If it's playing pool in a bar, climbing mountains, go-cart racing, or whatever, it's their choice. Those of us who play Runescape do so because we enjoy playing Runescape. There's no pathology involved. Also, how would you know how wealthy people are who play? Are you sure there aren't any millionaires playing RS? I haven't exactly gone and done a survey, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are a few. As for who people in society respect - respect is earned through people's actions, not by their possessions. If one's actions earn him both respect and money, then more power to him, but they don't go hand-in-hand. - Sligo
  9. I disagree with this. You have the abilty to: 1. Set combat terms prior to the duel 2. Negotiate with the player prior to the duel If you can't come to an agreement, or if your dueling partner doesn't play as agreed, then don't accept another duel with him or her. Unless you stake, you risk nothing in the dueling arena. Is it fair for me to go into a duel with a rune long against someone with a whip? Or someone who's combat level is significantly higher than mine? No. But I have the option to accept or decline the challenge. If I think the proposed duel is unfair, then I will decline. Simple as that. - Sligo
  10. Something I have suggested before, and have seen suggested, is simply to place another layer over each account. What this means is you log in to Runescape with a user name and password, then you log in to the game separately with your character name. With this model, your user name is never exposed to other players, so instead of hackers having half the information they need to break in, they have none. Also, with this model, one player can actually have multiple characters under the one account. This can have some positive and negative aspects, depending upon your point of view in terms of consolidating bill paying and character/player banning. - Sligo
  11. Here are my thoughts; #1 should use astral runes, not bloods. I think that #2 spell is too powerful. I'd go with an area stun where people are stunned (complete with stars) for 3 seconds. And make the level around 73 or 74. Spell #3 should use body runes instead of fires, waters and earths, to make it consistent with the low level curses. It's level should be lower - appropriately around 68-72 range. In spell #4, drop the deaths, and this spell is fine. - Sligo
  12. There is no reason for foul language to be used in the game. None what-so-ever. The reason why the chat filter is such a pain is because it has evolved. People, who insist on abusing the game by discussing inappropriate topics or using inappropriate words have cause the chat filter to become what it is now. As people find clever ways to get around the filter, Jagex has responded by adding additional rules to the filter to prevent these work-arounds. Unfortunately, these additional rules cause things to be censored out that are not nor intended to be inappropriate. A programmer cannot write a program capable of reading the mind of a user. Simply can't be done. However, it's people who insist on finding ways around the chat filter that are causing the annoyance for the rest of us. If those people would behave themselves, then we wouldn't need the chat filter in the first place! Unfortunately, jerks will be jerks, predators will be predators, and noobs will be noobs. Therefore, the chat filter exists as it is. If it's annoying to you, then so be it. But quit trying to find ways around it, and don't ever expect Jagex to give you an option to change its settings. It isn't going to happen no matter how much you beg for it, no matter how many million names you put on a petition. Let me ask you this question: If something is inappropriate for kids, then why is it appropriate for adults? (Again, please remove my name from your supporters list. I said before that I do not support the idea, and my opinion has not changed.) - Sligo
  13. Try sending another message directly to Jagex customer support. I doubt they can help you that way, though. As for the phone, I'd say keep trying. Might take note the time difference between you and England, where they are based, and try to call during their business hours on Monday. You might have better luck that way. - Sligo
  14. Er... You put me on your supporters list, but I did not say that I supported your idea. I don't. I agreed that the filter needs some work, but I do not agree that a player should be able to adjust the filter level in anyway. My reasons are stated in my previous message. - Sligo
  15. You make a fair point and it's well taken. Let me ask you to defend it in more detail if you don't mind. Before we can determine what is an unfair advantage, we must determine what we consider an advantage of any kind. As the author stated, there is no "winning" this game and if there was a way to win it, wouldn't it have to do with leveling skills? Levelling skills would take longer between two avatars than it would with just one (as long as the rule forbidding logging in two accounts at once remains intact). If the implied advantage has to do with player versus player combat, I can see where you might think a combat pure might have an advantage over other PKers because of his high-level smithing main who supports him. However, if you're dividing your time between the pure and the smither, how are you different from a combat pure with high smithing? Finally, unfair advantages aside, I think it would be a wise business decision to adjust Rule 8 to allow drop trading. I currently don't drop trade because I prefer to avoid getting banned. Therefore I have one paid membership and a F2P avatar I haven't used in months. Remove the drop-trade clause, gain another $5 per month from me (and probably others). The point of unfairness has to do with a couple things. Combat really wasn't in mind when I wrote that original post, but it does apply as well. Mainly, especially when "cross polinating" between P2P and F2P, the F2P character gains a distinct advantage because it has access to the resources available in P2P. Things like raw materials and tools provided (for free) to the F2P character will help that character level faster in those skills. Conversely, the F2P character can gain access to some other resourses easier and quicker than the P2P, though not to as great a degree. Between the symbiosis, both characters can benefit unfairly. This doesn't mean to say that a F2P character who received a charitable donation from another player won't help - it will. It's more the motivation behind the process that is unfair. Truthfully, if they dropped the rule about trading between your own characters, I really wouldn't care. I think the game has grown to the point where it really doesn't matter that much in the large scheme of things. - Sligo
  16. Unfortunately, since members have 2 teleports to that area already (dueling arena via ring, castle via glory amulet), I don't see them adding a tele to Al kharid spell. Sorry.
  17. I hereby declare that the house across the street from the west Varrock bank is the smithing guild! You must have a smithing skill of at least 78 to enter (that's my skill level, by the way). In this smithing guild, only the most dedicated smithers may enter and use the anvils, and the fact that it is conveniently near a bank makes it all that much better. So.. all you noobs with a lower smithing skill than me, STAY OUT!. Stay out I say! We at the smithing guild are too poor to afford a lock on the door and an NPC to guard it and keep the you noobs out. However, we are honest folks and we know that only those who are honest about their craft will enter. It's a an honor system, you see. Ok? Problem solved. - Sligo
  18. Why courtesy "week"? Why not Courtesy ALL THE TIME? As for drop trading, this is one of those fair-and-balaced things. Each character needs to stand on his own or her own skills and talents, and drop trading (or any other interaction between characters owned by the same player) an unfair advantage. Technically, there's no difference here for my "Main" to trade some stuff to a trusted friend, then log out, only to log back in with my 2nd account and receive that stuff. Is it "right?" That's a tough question! I'd say the answer is "no" because it gives one of those characters an unfair advantage. - Sligo
  19. I'd be happy with an enforced 2 second delay. The drawback to this is trading in the wilderness which is always risky and if you are trading with someone to get an anti-poison potion and you're down to 3 hit points. - Sligo
  20. I agree that the chat filter needs some work. I don't agree that players should be able to determine at what level the chat filter works. Two reasons: 1. Programming nightmare. There's enough going on as it is to make RS work as it does. If the system had to deal with multiple chat filters on output, instead of a single chat filter on input, we'd be seeing more problems with lag and such. 2. Just because someone is able to pay for membership, it doesn't mean they are responsible or mature, and should be allowed to adjust or modify their filter setting. - Sligo
  21. Hmm. I don't think there's a dungeon under Al Kharid at the moment. There's also that huge area spanning from Draynor Manor to the area between Varrock and Al Kharid.
  22. You really think those folks participate in the forums? They are too lazy to go and earn their stuff on their own, I doubt they'd muster the gumption to post anything here, let alone bother to read it. We all agree that these people are annoying, but we disagree on what should be done about it. My stance here is the rules as written are sufficient. Begging and seeking friends isn't illegal. Scamming is. Leave it at that. - Sligo
  23. In my experience (thanks to exposure with organizations like the SCA), fighting with two weapons has both advantages and disadvantages. The disadvantages far outweigh the advantages, which is why we didn't see a whole lot of this historically. Florentine style (which is what I've known it called) looks flashy, and if you are one-on-one with another sword fighter using a sword and shield, you do have a slight advantage. Mainly because your opponent really can't attack with his shield. A skilled two-hand fighter will use the two blades to an advantage by being able to attack from different angles while still keeping one blade back for defense. It's the defense that gets you. Not having a shield leaves you especially vulnerable to ranged attacks, since you can't hide behind a sword blade (ok, some pirates did it in a play I was in, but that's another story). Against power attacks (larger creatures), your defensive sword wouldn't be very effective because you don't have the leverage to make an effective block or deflection. You get the point I'm making? I think the concession that Jagex has made regarding the "Defender" blade is sufficient. People want to use two weapons because it looks cool, but in real combat situations, it won't help you much, if at all. - Sligo
  24. This is nice and all, but in the Jagex official suggestion forum, they don't want suggestions about oriental weapons or martial arts related combat styles. So, let's replace your ideas with non-oriental Throwing stars = throwing knives or darts (oops! we already have those!) Katana - a long curved sword. We have the scimitar, but we can add the sabre. Your makibishi is known in the english-speaking worlds as a calthrop. I really don't see how this would be effective in game. If you can't walk into the square that contains this device, then you could never pick it up from either a monster or player drop. Nunchucks. This is the japanese version of a flail. We already have that. Bo. Hmm. We have halbards for your "long" range attacks, and battlestaves for regular attacks. You might take issue with the speed, though. Any long stick is a "fast" weapon, however, because its core is wood and it isn't edged or [bleep]ed, it doesn't do as much damage. So, compared with the slower western versions, I think it pretty much evens out. So what does this boil down to? Hmm. Let's add the Sabre, a long slender curved sword. Sorry, can't really say I support your idea. - Sligo
  25. I'd appreciate it if you spelled my name right, though.
