Tip.It Times Presents: Different Strokes for Different Folks
I see this article as a good reminder of why we play Runescape (or at least why we SHOULD BE playing Runescape) and an admonishment to those who have forgotten this. I see a lot of examples everyday of the kinds of things the author talks about, and I agree with the author on his points. My only critisizm is that it is a bit of a softball/fluff article. Not real controversial or hard-hitting journalism, and probably won't get nominated for a pulitzer prize, but, hey, this is just a game, right?

censoring the word noob (and other words) discussion
ur partially right but the word H0 is profane but isnt censored and the word fart isnt profane but it is censored... :-k wat do others think? Both of those words fit in the #4 category. However, "H0" isn't the actual word, but a clever bypass of te word you are intending to use.

censoring the word noob (and other words) discussion
The things that are censored are: 1. Words commonly accepted as foul words 2. The word "password" 3. Anything that seems like a web address 4. Any word that infers inappropriate subject matter "Noob" doesn't match any of these definitions. "Jerk", "Fool", and other insults are not censored, so why should the word "Noob" be censored?

5 new spells and 2 new runes
Here's my thoughts about this: 1. What's a bouza? (I have no idea) 2. Hmm. Lightning rune. This gets me thinking. There's no rune that represents electrical energy. So we create a new rune (I'd call it a "Shock" rune, but "Lightning" works just as well). 3. With this new electricity based rune, we can combine them with a number of other runes to make a variety of spells... Lightning wave/bolt/blast/etc - (Shock + Air + Mind/chaos/death/etc) Does comparable damage, if target is wearing metal armor, damage done is doubled. Grounding - (Shock + nature) drains 25% run & special attack energy from target Shock Blade - (Shock + blood) target a weapon - weapon does double damage for 60 seconds (or next attack if 60 secs is too powerful) Light blind - (Shock + body + soul) - hides your dot in the mini-map from other players for ten seconds Shock Jump - (shock + law + soul + air) - target a location anywhere on screen you can see, jumps you to that location, but you also take 25 points of damage and leaves you stunned for 3 seconds. - Sligo

Bubsa Sings RuneScape: What happened next
You are certainly welcome to record our songs to music with your voice. I'd love to hear them. I'll say one thing: Bubsa has the guts to do something I won't do. At least he can carry a tune. The question: Are you willing to put your money where your mouth is and do what he's done?

New Quest
And I'm left wondering why this thread hasn't been locked. Now, wouldn't it be funny if good ol' Chuck Norris was actually a player in Runescape? I wonder what his screen name would be. Would he be a pk-er or someone who concentrates on developing skills? What would he think about people who try to scam him in trades? What would he think about suggestion threads like this? Things that make you go "hmmm"

0 tolerance policy
My thought on this is it would be too easy to scam Jagex. Already, we have people who commit "entrapment" where they lead other players into breaking the rules then report those players, when they themselves are truly at fault. If the actions you described were to take place, then the scammer would end up with the victim's stuff.

Bubsa Sings RuneScape: What happened next
That would be sweet! That was my first parody, and I'd say if not the best, it's among the best (top ten for sure) Aside from that, do any of them or do all of them. I'd love it. On another token, I watched a music video where some guy named Chicken230 "stars" in "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd. He used Hypercam (or some such) and made a full length music video. I think it would really be cool to make full-blown RS Music videos of our songs. What do you think? (As if we didn't have enough to do already?!?!? Maybe one of you good people out there has the time and the skill, you can do this?) - Sligo

Endasil's Top 10 High-Priority Fixes
Here's my take on your ideas... 1. Save the attack-mode state at log-off. I agree. Same goes for run/walk mode. 2. Scroll lock on the chat window. Agree 3. Shift-click to attack regardless of level. Agree 4. Word wrap on the chat window. No. Problem is someone leaning on their keyboard (255 character limit?) and that would fill up all 5 lines of the chat window with their spam message. Keep it at one line. 5. Clicking anything in the UI would not stop current action This depends. Some actions (like using items in inventory) are non-combat actions. 6. ON/OFF for chat filter. No. No. No. Leave the chat filter alone. Yes, it's annoying. Yes, it's a pain. Don't allow it to be turned off, or even have a "security level" setting. 7. Bring back the tell feature Hmm. Has merit, and would make it easier to not say things to the wrong person. Drawback is you have to type the name, and if that name has spaces, it could be a problem. Alternative: Have a "last" button in your friends list that when you click it, it sets up a message to the "last" person you sent a message to. 8. "Listen" feature. Interesting idea, but I don't think it would work. Perhaps a right click option on a character that says "focus on", so that his writing is a different color or font (italics would work) in your chat window. It would remain so until that person either logged off (or you logged off) or you changed your focus to someone else. 9. Action macros for most actions Interesting idea. I'd call it a "repeat action" button. Only problem is this would make things easier for external macro-ers. Also, part of the repetitive clicking keeps you from auto-logging. 10. Language preference Hmm. This would be tough. Only thing I can suggest here is to dedicate certain servers to certain languages (i.e. server 200 is for spanish speaking players, etc) Though the game mechanics would be unchanged and any player could still log in, this would allow those players to converse easily amongst each other. The drawback to this is we'd lose the international feel of this game. I think it's kind of cool to walk into a bank and see people speaking (typing) in German. Those are my thoughts on your ideas. - Sligo

Bubsa Sings RuneScape: What happened next
I just saw a video some guy made to Pink Floyd's "Wish you were here"... I'm thinking - we take our song lyrics and actually produce RS video movies... Now THAT would rock! - Sligo

Bank Interest?
I've seen this type of suggestion before, and the answer is a resolute NO. As stated previously, the reason why modern banks can give interest on accounts is because they charge interest on loans. The interest earned is typically half of that charged. Also, included in this formula is the factor for loan defaults. A bank doesn't have a lot of ways to recoup losses other than taking your stuff. Ok, so here's the scenario: I (level 100 combat, established character, etc) go to the bank to borrow 3 million so I can by an abby whip. I agree to pay interest of, say 10%, over the course of the loan, with weekly or monthly payments. Then I go on vacation in real life... The first time I miss a payment, I get a nice letter from the bank saying "I know you over looked your payment, but..." The second time I miss a payment, I get a nasty letter. The third time I miss a payment, my stuff in the bank gets confiscated - at LOW ALCH Value (which is the guaranteed value the banker can sell your stuff for at a general store). Bye bye whip! Quite likely, my bank account will be cleaned out, and I will be out there crying that I've been hacked. My "credit rating" is trashed and I may as well started a new character. Next scenario: I start a brand new character. I go to the bank and withdraw as much as I'm allowed - 10 million? 10 thousand? 1 thousand? whatever. I give this money to my "main" account and never open the brand new character again. Do this enough times and I have all the money I need on my main account. Ok, so you see why loans won't work in Runescape - mainly because there isn't accountability, and that it really is just a game. Since loans won't work, then it makes sense that banks can't "invest" their holdings in order to make money, so therefore, they can't give interest either. My question, then, in the game, just how do the banks and general stores stay in business? If anything, the bank should charge a deposit fee on all deposits (per transaction, perhaps? Even if it is just 1 coin per access), and general stores should put a limit on purchasing non-sell-able stuff (like all those millions of unstrung willow bows). - Sligo

reuseable gold and silver?
I can see how this idea can be abused, but as long as there is a reasonable percentage of waste, there's no reason why it couldn't be done. The same is true for re-forging iron and copper (not steel or higher, because once that stuff has been smelt and forged, you really can't do much with it without a higher level of technology which isn't available in RS). Another alternative is to have a spell - kind of like high-alch, but does a reversal of those higher items. You cast this spell on a steel long sword, you get an iron ore out of it (you lose the coal and 50% of the ore). Same token, you cast it on rune plate, you get 2 runite ores. The loss percentage is great enough to keep the idea from being abused, but it does allow for some recycling. - Sligo

The Stronghold Problems
I submit that there really isn't anything Jagex could do in terms of monster drops that would affect the economy in a serious manner. Except things they won't do because they've either said they won't do or it simply doesn't make sense. Such As: 1. Redrop holiday items and/or rares. 2. Remove high/low alch from the game. 3. Add about 50 runite rocks near a bank (or similar type of radical change). Point is: People are always worried about the affect a change will have on the economy. Answer: There is ALWAYS an economic affect to every change/update made, but that affect is NEVER catastrophic. Our good friends at Jagex are smarter than that. - Sligo

Yew Trees in Level 1/2 Wilderness
The only way yews would become popular in the wildy is if there were a bank nearby. Otherwise there are plenty of other places to chop yews. - Sligo

WATS WITH PEOPLE HITTING ON YOU IN RUNESCAPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Point of all this is RS is not a dating game. Anyone who tries to lure others into inappropriate situations should be banned from the game. The game has rules and they are enforced in this regard. Yes, there are predators out there. No question. No one playing RS should be dumb enough to fall for a predator. If someone is asking you for personal information, don't give it out. Don't even play a trick and give out personal information for someone else. - Sligo

WATS WITH PEOPLE HITTING ON YOU IN RUNESCAPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now wait a minute! I take a offense to this! I'm over 40, I don't have a basement, and I live in the house I pay for with the money my wife and I earn! I have never "hit" on any other player in the game. Please don't mischaracterize or make generalizations about people you don't know. In fact, every adult player (i.e. player over 30) I've met is living in their own house, has a job, and plays RS because it's an opportunity to unwind and relax after a hard day's work. Most are married and have children who play RS as well. Now, as for people who hit on other people, my opinion is that these are lonely people (of any age) wanting to find companionship when they lack it in their own lives. Others do this because they think its fun and they enjoy making others uncomfortable. Still others do this with the intent of scamming other players. What would be interesting is for people who do this to chime in here and explain why. We know that there are tipit members who behave this way, because they do the same thing here in the forum. - Sligo

Wizard's dolomen
Usually the people who get killed there don't have anything worth taking. I find it to be a great place to train and collect runes, in both F2P and P2P until you're around level 50 or so. - Sligo

Private trade chat
I do the same thing... I say "Selling X for Ygps! I have Z to sell!" The other thing is I take my trades to locations that make sense. I sell supersets and prayer pots in Edgeville, where the demand is highest. It's crazy when I'm one of three people in the Canifis bank and one person stands there yelling "Selling Bow strings" or some such. I say, "You know, if you go someplace where there are more people, you might get some offers." And they say, "Really. Wow! Thanks! I never thought of that!" * sigh * - Sligo

You Swing Your Axe At Teh Tree....
You swing your axe at the tree. You hit the level 126 guy in front of you, which really makes him mad. He teleports you to the wilderness and one-hit kills you. (Don't ask me how he does it, that's not the point.)
