Tip.It Times Presents: I had a Wonderful Vacation...
Er... You know what I mean. The "Editor" is responsible for the content of the material that is published. Therefor, whatever is published is what the editor wants to have published. Sure, the editor may have to answer to a higher power, but that higher power has obviously entrusted the editor to do his (or her) job. Otherwise, we'd see a new editor in a week or two. As for me, I wouldn't want the job. You have to meet the demand of having a new article published each week. That means if you don't have adequate submissions from contributors, you gotta do it yourself. I highly doubt the editor here is getting paid, so he or she probably doesn't have a lot of time to sit down and write a thought-provoking, hard-hitting, perfect article every week. So, if once in a while an article is published that doesn't meet Pulitzer standards, just understand that it's life and perhaps next week the article will be better. Or, perhaps you'll give the editor a week off and offer your own contribution up for public ridicule. Those of you who normally enjoy Tip.It Times, yet criticize what you get, realize that your criticism may lead to the demise of the very thing you look forward to every week. Enough soap-box rambling for me. I got some 'Scapin' to do. - Sligo

Tip.It Times Presents: I had a Wonderful Vacation...
Why should it be about facts? Actually, the Tip.It Times article should be about whatever the EDITOR of the Tip.It Times wants it to be, bacause it's his (or her) forum. Also, it is presented as an EDITORIAL, which is, by definition, an OPINION piece. It helps to have one's opinions backed up by facts, of course, but to have just a fact sheet... Well, the Tip.It site is already full of those - skill guides, quest guides, gaming tips, etc. Frankly, I like the fact that we have an opportunity to express our opinions and discuss them. So, instead of criticizing the article every week, why don't you open up your trusty word-processor program and write an article and submit it? You might be surprised and actually see your name on the byline. Wouldn't that be a hoot? - Sligo

Tip.It Times Presents: I had a Wonderful Vacation...
Thanks for the article and the insight. I have mixed feelings about "high level stuff" in terms of weapons and armor. Sure, it gives the lower level people something to reach for, but the lack of such levels the playing field up in the wilderness just a bit. On the other hand, I am interested in adding stuff to the game that gives the high-levels something to do - something that is not only interesting and captivating, but doesn't involve repetitive motion injuries from doing the same action a half a billion times. So what could this be? Well... I'm working on it. Watch the suggestions forum soon because this idea I have will blow you away - and I guarantee that you've not seen it before here on tipit (I know, I checked already). - Sligo

Tip.It Times Presents: Preaching to the Choir
Are you running for office? If so, can I vote for you? Thank you for your comments. You said some of the things I really didn't want to say in the public article. It's one thing to be stupid, it's another to open your mouth and shout it to the world... lol One more thing - it isn't so much that I want a "loving" community. I don't have the right kind of boots for that. Be a respectful community would be awesome. - Sligo

new quest:the travel company(f2p)(making version)
This comment doesn't help. We should let Jagex decide what is F2P and what is P2P. Let's just make the suggestions and discuss them on their merit. As for the suggestion. The idea of kidnapping has already been used (Prince Ali Rescue, Recipe for Disaster), but I do like the distinction between the three gods - you choosing which path to follow and in effect, the quest gets divided into three branches. It would be interesting to open this up to the Shield of Arrav/Hero's Quest model where you need other people doing the quest with you. In this case, you need two friends, not just one. - Sligo

I would make achieving the "all 99s" rank way too easy. What's the fun in that? - Sligo

The samurai\wilderness code.. People who fight with honor
This has never worked for me. I don't see why anyone would want to play RS just to PK. There are millions of other activities that don't involve victimizing people available in RS. I think you've shortchanged yourself. Also, if you desire is to just "kill" other players, I know that there are a lot of better venues for this. Now on topic... I like the idea of a code of conduct, or some way that non-pker can traverse through the wilderness with a little more safety. However, there's no way to enforce it. - Sligo

New Skill
Drinking, eating and other bodily functions is not a skill. Well, if you're 2 years old, maybe, but once you've mastered the 12-ounce curl, then there's nothing else to learn. I do not think that making this a skill is a good idea because doing so would encourage people to make their characters drink unnecessarily. That it is part of the game is ok, because it really is part of real life (and I'd rather see a child's avatar doing the drinking than see the child do it in real life). Sorry, can't support this idea. - Sligo

what do you think about a new kind of arena?
Don't feel bad. Some of my ideas are none-to-popular as well. Takes a while to figure out what other people like and don't like. Unfortunately, popularity isn't necessarily what Jagex looks for when considering an idea. I suspect it has more to do with how it will affect the game in terms of playability, balance, and fun. The other factor is the level of programming difficulty. For all we know, someone from Jagex may have read your message and thinks it's the greatest thing since sliced bread and we'll see it in a future update some time. - Sligo

full inventory banking
We kinda already have this with the deposit boxes located in some banks. I use it mostly when I'm mining ess, cause it's a few clicks faster than using the bank teller. - Sligo

~~~MORE INVENTORY SPACE~~~
Hmm... Effort: C- Idea: D- Not only is the idea old and tired, but Jagex has made it very clear in their official suggestions forum that they don't want to entertain suggestions of this nature. Come up with a logical "More space" suggestion, like belts, sheathes, belly-packs, cell-phone pockets, and you might get a better grade, and more credit. And you might get some more positive feedback from your fellows here on Tip.It. - Sligo
what do you think about a new kind of arena?
I don't think this idea is a good one, and if they did do this, I'd never go there. What do you mean? F2P just got an update, and if I'm not mistaken, they do get periodic updates - things like holiday events, landscape updates, and such. The security stronghold was a major update that included F2P. - Sligo
What should be a new skill?
Perhaps Tip.it should introduce a "Useful Post" skill. As such, each post would be evaluated for content, and for those posts that constitute a certain level of intelligence, are posted in the right forum, and aren't just a mindless waste of bitspace on a harddrive, you get experience. For those posts that don't qualify, you'd get a deduction. So, for this post, since it technically isn't on topic (i.e. not a Runescape skill), I'd get a deduction. Too bad, so sad. - Sligo
A tree through the roof?
That's ok, in Greensburg, Indiana, a tree grows out of the roof of the courthouse building. - Sligo
Addition to Mining Guild - 60+ Support [Pics Added]
I like this idea a lot better than putting a furnace in the mine. Since more and more miners are getting to the higher levels, it's getting harder and harder to mine runite, so adding a couple rocks here and there is a good idea. - Sligo
Tip.It Times Presents: Preaching to the Choir
This post of your makes me laugh, but it also makes me very concerned. Let me see if I can explain why... 1. Asking for no retaliation: How do you mean? By the mere fact that I submitted this article and placed myself on the public forum, and the fact that you have posted in this thread says that I wasn't worried about retaliation. In fact, I encourage it in terms of positive, construction discussion. You are free to write your own counterpoint article and submit it to the editor and have it published, just like I did. 2. Attacking for no role model: Here you misread me. I don't attack. Rather, I try (and try very hard) to understand. I don't criticize a person for having no oversight or limits in their lives, rather, I criticize their actions and behavior. 3. Alter egos: This comment of your almost creeps me out. Are you saying that it is ok to behave inappropriately in an online community/game because it's a role-playing game? Yet, just a moment ago you accused me of hiding behind my internet avatar. Your logic escapes me. 4. Assigned writer: I'm not sure what that means. Nearly a year ago, one of the Tip.It editors invited me to write an article for Tip.It times. I wrote an article - a whimsical piece about the word "noob" and my experiences with it. It received positive feedback and the editors asked if I was willing to write more articles. I was like, "sure!" then I had some real-life issues to deal with (I lost my job, went thru a period of unemployment, got a job, lost it, more unemployment, now back to work in a steady job that is a good fit for my personality and skills). Anyway, I was silent for a long time but I kept seeing people posting threads here in the forum about their experience with scammers and hackers and such. I got so fed up with it I felt it was time to write a hard-hitting article that would debunk some of the myths about internet users and reveal some of the truths I've learned in my life about people. I don't claim that my article is gospel truth. I make it clear on the outset that these are my opinions and observations. Am I an "assigned" writer? No. I'm a contributor. Just like you and just like the hundred thousand other people who visit and post here in the Tip.It forum every day. Now, a little more on the overall jist of your comments. Jagex makes it very clear in their rules that certain types of behavior within Runescape isn't acceptable, and they will use whatever means they have available to them to prevent, police, and eliminate such behaviors. Unfortunately, there exists a small percentage of individuals who, for whatever reason, seek to circumvent these measures. It is my sincere hope that you are not one of these individuals. However, your post (which I notice is the first post you've ever made here in this forum) suggests that you might be. - Sligo
Furnaces......noobs asking for 1 steel bars? hmm
Kinda like finding change in a vending machine? The idea makes me laugh, but I don't know that the game engine can acurately keep track of something like this. Things like the forging ring are specific to the player, but there are really only a few "counters" when it comes to player actions or activities (mini-games come to mind, but I can't think of anything else). But how would this deal with the stated purpose of dissuading beggars? - Sligo
Movable sites
This idea makes more sense for trees than it does rocks. As for trees, it would be interesting to see trees going through stages of growth, kind of like what we see with farming. If you chop a sapling, you get one log and the tree is gone. If you wait until the tree is fully grown, you'll get 50-100 logs out of it. Regular trees grow faster than Magic trees, of course, but they all grow faster than those you grow through farming. - Sligo
Not necessarily(sp) a new skill, but...chemistry?
Images of Dr. Bunsen Burner and his side-kick, Beeker, come to mind. The idea of Chemistry as a skill, in and of itself, doesn't quite fit the mould. However, incorporating Real-World chemistry into other aspects of RS makes a lot of sense. As for a new skill, other than the one I've been working on (I'm not going to reveal any details at this time), Chemistry could be worked into kind of a general science type of skill which would include other aspects of science, including biology, physics, astronomy, geology, etc. My fear is that by defining or creating a science based skill path in RS, which is decidely based on a magical-mythical-medievil world, we would lose some of the wonder and awe and turn RS into a thinly disguised science class. - Sligo
wood racks
I have no sympathy for level 3 skillers. It makes sense that in order to lift and push a wheelbarrel, you need a certain amount of strength. I would actually make the strength level requirements higher for each type of wheelbarrel. - Sligo
Tip.It Times Presents: Preaching to the Choir
Actually, I was invited. However, after a short stint as a mod on another fan site (which will remain nameless at this time), I discovered that I'd rather play Runescape than spend my evenings moderating. For that reason, I turned down the invitation. Deliberately making people angry or upset in order to get them to make bad decisions is, to me, a form of scamming. Unfortunately, the technique is used by advertisers all the time in the real world (i.e. do headache medicine commercials give you a headache? They do me!) However, if the buyer realizes and understands this technique and recognizes it for what it is, then they won't be as likely to enter into an unfair deal. - Sligo
Tip.It Times Presents: Preaching to the Choir
I agree with both the points you make. However, my point in the article is to avoid being too quick to report someone. If you read this forum, how many times do you see people complaining that they've been banned for something that was borderline at best. Many times I've seen people posting here on Tip.It that they were banned for some insignificant violation. Most likely they were reported by some vigilante hoping to get noticed by making as many reports as possible. However, upon review of the ban, it seems as if the ban was unfair. I've also noticed that Jagex is less likely to review and reverse a ban in F2P than in P2P. - Sligo
Tip.It Times Presents: Preaching to the Choir
which would be advertising, which can get you banned. You are referring to (taken directly from Runescape.com) As long as a fansite follows the rules, Jagex doesn't have any problem with them. The way I understand this (Player mods, please clarify if you don't mind): You can talk about a fan site privately to your friends an acquaintences as long as you don't actually say the url. However, if you stand in a crowded area and publicly shout "everyone go to the tip.it forum and check out my bank sale auction!" you would be in violation. Oh, by the way, thanks for the positive remarks on the article. - Sligo
