  1. Funny :) Looks like my article touched quite a few people, and made them aware of the current problems with the RuneScape economy..; I'm looking at threads like this, this, this. and this... They all sprouted up after inflation became so apparent, that now everyone seems to think that this is a problem... Unfortunately, the problem has been goign on longer then last week, but just became more apparent due to certain items as PVP drops were replaced by ridiculous ammounts of cash (but I do like to know how many of you were nudged in the direction by my article)... So, since the people tend to agree that there are currently two major causes that are more or less responsible for the same problem, I'll soon be wearing a little signature picture in a silent protest... Summing up the problems in brief, and hoping other people will put the little picture in their sig too... All in a futile attempt to get Jagex to move on these very specific cases... Join the Union! (watch my sig for the sig picture :))
  2. If anything, this would have made an awesome "letter to the editor" of my article this week... But I do agree (and I said that in said article as well) that Merchant Clans are a problem, and you hit the nail on the head that it is mainly caused by the GE being the conduit for 99.99% of all trades... What we need is indeed an old world 2... A BLACK MARKET We all know that the ACTUAL price of items like Adamaite Ore and Water Orbs is really just 1k gp, and not the current price on the GE... But as said; I dont mind paying that invisible tax to those merchanters... But what I do mind is that it keeps on inflating the prices unneccisarily (as do PVP worlds with their 5m cash drops and tricking)... Balance it out, Jagex, give us some money sinks... And something a little more expensive then Construction... Infact; I want something that KEEPS costing money, even after lvl 99... Or just turn PVP back into a money sink instead of a money creator... Then with stable prices, hard working people who make their own items and alch them, or earn their cash in other normal ways, dont have to chase after ever increasing prices...
  3. Yup, I stayed neutral on this one, mI figured it was up to every one of you to decide if you liek merch clans or not... But I have been writing articles that were both con and pro situation at the time... Writing does some sort of easy to me... All I need is a new angle or a new subject thats interesting to write about and I can churn a decent piece out within an hour... Anything you like to see an article about, feel free to PM me... 1; Its fusing (they fused evil and good prayers) 2; Its the 2nd article, not the economic one 3; It's ok to sound negative if your criticism is well founded... I 100% agree... I was violently opposed in one of my previous articles that PVP can be used to bring more money into the economy, whereas the old style PK-ing pretty much made for a nice money sink. The best even, as people would work up some cash before risking it in the wild. And even then, the one getting the loot might not bring all of it home either -> perfect... Now we see uncommon drops of up to 5 million GP... Not worth 5 million (like a DFS is worth 17.3m), but actual 5 million GP (once sold to one of them brothers)... Once again more money flows into the economy than there is removed, while this used to be a great money sink...
  4. I'm sorry to hear that, but I think you can understand that it is hard to find something that nobody knows. If you ever come up with something, we would love to hear it :) Actually, he does come up with good ones... They dont get credited to his name though... Check the clan he is in :P We (TSA) have been providing DYK's for well over a year now, and most have been up to par with the two rules I set for them; - They must not be common knowledge - They must have a use for Runescape players (so no historical ones) I could have done that yes, but you are right when I wanted to stay neutral... I will explain; Merchant clans basicly get the money that the common man wants to pay "too much" for his items... If the price of Yew Logs go up slightly while you still needed them, you might pay more for them -> those extra few GP per Yew Log end up in the pockets of price manipulators... The reason I stayed neutral on this is simple... The Merchant Clans are in a way a counterweight to inflation, as they get to keep some of the extra GP that flows into the economy every day... Skimming it right off the top of most price peaks...
  5. I wish you can donate them something to play something else :) change the song for 50 gp or so
  6. None with the catchphrases that won the contest about a year ago?
  7. As clanleader you can certainly account for certain slumps... This is currently the season of final exams and people going on holidays... For the actual slumps as meant by the topic starter, all I can say is that you have to have a few aces up your sleeve... Dont pull out the biggest measures (which are different for each clan) you can every slight downturn you think is there... I track my clan activity in 3 ways... - THIS shows how much activity there is (and has been) on our FORUMS and SITE. - We are the #2 active channel on an IRC network, with #1 and #3 both being entire games on themselves... The number of lines spoken in each of those 3 channels can be compared easily with a simple command, and the difference between us and the other channels gives me some idea of activity. - And recently, to our IRC channel, we have added CLANTRACK (irc.swiftirc.net -> #clantrack), where I can check if levels and averages have gone up, combined with Runehead's total XP amount is a good help :) A dead given is always the amount of people that show up to an event, but usually everyone online who doesnt have their hands full, isnt about to rush out, or doesnt have membership, turns up :)
  8. 1. Do you think clan members of today are more/less loyal as a few years ago? Both actually.. I think people moved further to the end of the spectrum on both sides... You have your people that stay with clans for years, and people that jump to the next clan the very second they see they cannot become more then "mere member" in the next 2 months... Fortunately for leaders of clans such as myself, the hoppers are much easier to "detect" then they were a few years back... 2. Do you think that people are prepared to do as much for their clan as a few years ago? Kind of answered this already in the previous question... But how far can you take this... Are we talking things like tanking for others at Bandos... Or are we talking about asking members for donations to keep the site and forums running... I think the loyal members would be willing to chip in, but once again, the rift between loyal people and floaters is ever more clear in this... 3. Do you think - in general - top clans of today are as good as some of the legendary clans like DS, ZF, ... Whole different ball game these days, as each clan has their favorite battleground/time... I doubt they would compare, but the only attributes that can be compared are basicly; member cohesion... I havent been in any of those clans, so I cant answer that one :)
  9. You're absolutely right that it is hard to find new subjects that have not been written about  So yeah, it may seem like more of the same... So, those of you who think this way, my mailbox is still empty :) Give me a subject or a new angle on an old subject, and I'll turn it into a quality piece of writing you've come to expect from me and at least as good as you deserve...
  10. Will enter 1. clan name: The Tal Shiar Alliance (Tal Shiar for short) 2. runehead list: http://www.runehead.com/clans/ml.php?clan=nightshade 3. Irc or CC: #Tal_Shiar on netgamers.org, or contact me or Psi Kia Kai ingame
  11. I'm afraid that windmills, while typically Dutch, had a plethora of different purposes in Holland other then just grinding flower :) Look it up :P I have proposed a new type of food, that would promote the usage of windmills in RuneScape a little bit better... Also, expect a new Did You Know coming out soont hat will promnote Windmills, at least for the F2P player :)
  12. Yes, unlike the crew, I can voice my own opinions :D (im kidding)
  13. Ok state controlled is misworded perhaps... But, go do some research of your own, and see what you can find about the European Parliament and how this election can impact things happening on and with the internet...
  14. Most favorably for us would be to vote on whichever party of your country is in the "ALDE" (Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe) http://www.predict09.eu/default/en-us/s ... lyses.aspx Check with your country and see which one political party in your country afiliated with ALDE... If there is none, try to find if an international political party (such as LibDem) who is afiliated with this group is also running in your country... Their position on internet related politics (such as Net Neutrality) is, seeing the predictions for the left vs right balance in the EP, what will also ultimately provide a European and multi-national counterweight to the American state-controlled domain name and IP provider (ICANN). ALDE has the best papers for us frantic internetters... So I am encouraging everyone who can vote (or those who cant, ask in your neighbourhood those who can) in the EP elections from June 4th to June 7th, to vote for the biggest party in your country that is afiliated with them... Thank you...
  15. When did you test this? It is in every way possible that jagex "took care of this" in an update after we tested this... But I will send out one of my guys again to re-confirm, but I think 18k/h is a little low... You sure you did everything right?
  16. These three are the only skills that are not used in the Stealing Creation game... I propose that these are added to make it the ultimate game in RS that has ALL skills available implemented to us... SLAYER: Simply put; you must have a certain Slayer level to do double damage other people's familiars... Slayer lvl 1 for lvl 1 Familiar Slayer lvl 20 for lvl 2 Familiar Slayer lvl 40 for lvl 3 Familiar Slayer lvl 60 for lvl 4 Familiar Slayer lvl 80 for lvl 5 Familiar If you are targetting the enemy's familiar and have the proper slayer level for it, you will do double damage (from 25 to 50 :))... This forces people to actually deposit their familiar's inventory every once in a while, and might even compel you to bring multiple pouches, adding a little spice to the use of the Summoning skill in Stealing Creations... FIREMAKING Once again, simply put, you can burn down the enemy Barriers by setting them on fire... Firemaking level 1 and a Class 1 Clay would burn a lvl 1 Barrier down in 2 minutes Firemaking level 20 and a Class 2 Clay would burn a lvl 2 Barrier down in 2 minutes, and a lvl 1 in 1 minute Firemaking level 40 and a Class 3 Clay would burn a lvl 3 Barrier down in 2 minutes, lvl 2 in 1 minute, and a lvl 1 in 50 seconds Firemaking level 60 and a Class 4 Clay would burn a lvl 4 Barrier down in 2 minutes, lvl 3 in 1 minute, lvl 2 50 seconds, and a lvl 1 in 40 seconds Firemaking level 80 and a Class 5 Clay would burn a lvl 5 Barrier down in 2 minutes, lvl 4 in 1 minute, lvl 3 in 50 sec, lvl 2 in 40 sec, and a lvl 1 in 30 seconds The Clay determines the Burn time, not your Firemaking level The sacred clay would get a right click option to "Burn" which you then have to use on a Barrier... Adding additional damage to the Barrier through combat does not speed it up... Adding a higher level Burn on the Barriers would restart the clock but burn less time due to the burn being a higher level of course.... I realise this seems somewhat overpowered, but what other use does Firemaking actually have? FARMING When gathering clay from various resources you have a chance to find a Clay (Tree, Swarm, Pool or Rock) Seed. Using such a seed on an empty patch where level 1 Clay Fragments used to be you can instantly grow a half-full gathering point of that resource... The level of the Seed would determine the level of clay that can be gathered there, so a lvl 4 Rock Seed would create a half-empty rock that gives lvl 4 Clay, and requires lvl 60 mining to get (like normal rocks)... Using the Seed on the empty patch instantly sprouts the resource... Farming lvl 1 is required to plant a lvl 1 seed Farming lvl 20 is required to plant a lvl 2 seed Farming lvl 40 is required to plant a lvl 3 seed Farming lvl 60 is required to plant a lvl 4 seed Farming lvl 80 is required to plant a lvl 5 seed What do you all think? Discuss, suggest, celebrate, flame... its all allowed :)
  17. We're talking about planned wars, not PKRI...
  18. I think I speak for all dutchies when I say: Ach wat, we zijn toch meertalig... beter dan de rest van dat gajes :P
  19. Its good to see my editorial sparked some debate... As I said there are still loopholes and I can understand that this doesn't solve it completely... And as what some may think, I actually don't care at all about the PvP trick being an "unfair" money maker (the fact that it sparked a discussion means the article was a success)... What I care about is that it ruins the respect that actual PK-ing once held, and how it is a shame that it is easier to get a DFS from this system rather then a drop from actual dragons... jettrider wrote: "First, it was always very possible for your opponent to drop more than the game would recognize. Why did so many players use smite if not to drop the opponent's protect item prayer and get a godsword or abyssal whip that the player wasn't planning to use?" How does that add to dropping more value than the total value of what that person has with him? I think you misunderstood it a little there... And acenator; I think that "fixing" the GE prices back to normal was kind of a given, so I didnt include that... Right now the only thing that is keeping inflation from surging is the fact that we actually have price manipulators who seem to end up with the GP in their pockets that the common man is willing to pay "too much" for a certain item... PvP has to become a money sink rather then a money maker... As for the Did You Know, there are some unanswered questions... Credit goes to Cabaretboy of my clan... We have tested this, and at level 80 fishing, you get as much fish as you would in Shilo. But you get fish that is worth all 60xp instead of some 70xp (salmon) and some 50 xp (trout)... And since you ALWAYS get more trout then salmon (averaging slightly below 60xp per fish), the Lava Eels win out... I do hope now that insightfull people realise that they can also throw their trout and tuna (from swordfishing) in their Bunyip... Tuna gets you even more Water Runes then a Trout, but is nowhere near as fast... Oh and dont worry about getting damaged on the way to Lava Eels either, the Bunyip Swallow Whole scroll allows you to eat them raw provided you have at least 53 cooking...
  20. To craft them, they require you to bring a talisman as well as the opposite tune already and some Pure essence.. So if you're looking to make Smoke (air and fire combination) runes, here is what you would need: A way of getting into the Fire Altar An Air Talisman (or the lvl 82 Lunar Spell) (will be consumed) And an equal ammount of Air and Pure Essence (will be consumed) The whole reason nobody is doing this is because there is a 50% chance per rune to fail of being created, resulting in a lot of stuff being lost... But if the Essence required wasn't Pure, but simply Rune essence (a LOT cheaper), I think a lot of people would start to craft these combo runes... Discuss and support please :)
  21. People seem to forget that in addition to the 60k agil per hour (which is comparable to Ape Atol)... You ALSO get 23-26k RANGE xp per hour, something you dont get at Ape Atol... At my best judgement, this has become the best Agility Course out there, especially for the medium range levels who happen to fall anyways at courses such as the Wilderness and Ape Atol...
  22. tailoring should be introduced, really... split crafting in 2, and make crafting a skill that uses actual crafting, rather then making clothes out of various materials...
  23. Soul Wars (pretty much the combat counterpart of the mostly skill-based Stealing Creation) is an immensely popular game that has hundreds of people ingame at the same time across each dedicated world to it... It's easy accessible for everyone of any level, and get a VERY healthy chunk of XP if you win, and even a little for when you lose... Not to mention the combat XP you get ingame (which is perfect for ancients and chinners)... Then why, of all places, did they place the one thing that can access it in Edgeville... Why not in a town that could use a little "traffic" like Nardah, Sophanem or Pollinivneach... or what about Rimmington, Keldagrim or (lol) Tai bwo Wannai..? Those towns are pretty empty, and having to go there to get to this minigame wouldve made those towns a lot busier, and probably even drain a few GP from the economy trying to get there... What do you guys think?
  24. While we're on Construction... Farming itself hasn't had anything yet for Construction, other then bagging a few plants... What I'm suggesting is a room where you can put both plants and trees in as well as animasl; The Farm; Along the right side; An animal pen. Houses respawns of either 6 Chickens, 2 Cows, 3 Sheep and a Ram, or 4 Pigs and 2 piglets... Each animal can be killed for it's respective drops, sheered for its wool, and all that. Pigs and Piglets drop Bones and Raw Pork (turns into Cooked Meat once cooked) Upper left corner; Fruit tree patch. Treat exactly the same as normal fruit tree patches. Left and bottom side along the corner; Allotment. Treat exactly the same as any other Allotment, except picking the vegetables is done like the Fruit Tree (up to 6 are stored and they regrow over time even when completely harvested) Some more suggestions for Construction; Tool Store lvl 6; Contains a Bronze Axe and a Bronze Pickaxe While we're at it... Can the Cooking guild please have a ladder down to a Brewing Vat much like the one found on Keldagrim and Port Phasmatys..?
