is desert treasure worth it? are the spells worth it?
Yes, the spells are hella-expensive, but well worth it. The HP and mage experience is ridiculously fast using ice burst at pest control. People will occasionally get annoyed with you when you attack monsters instead of the portals, but ancients do make it a lot easier to get to spinners sitting in the middle of a pack. They're even more fun at castle wars, but since you don't spend all that much time maging people there, the exp isn't that great.

Desert Treasure help!
You don't need a safe spot, as long as you mind your prayer, you'll kill him no problem. I found that a good pattern was cast 3 spells, then drink 2 doses of prayer pot, repeat. He was much, much easier than the ice guy.

20 April 2006 - Rune Essence adjustment
This is a great idea, and I'll attempt to answer some of the concerns people have. The f2pers who got their essence converted to unusable pure essence need not worry, Jagex said they will be fixing this so that any pure essence a f2per got in the conversion is useable. I'm assuming this means making all pure essence currently in f2p banks tradeable to members. And given that pure essence will probably be worth a lot more than regular essence used to be, you'll probably make a lot more money off it than you thought when you originally bought it to merchant. I agree that it would be totally unfair if you were stuck with tens of thousands of useless essence in your bank, but I think you'll all be pretty pleased with the return on your investment once Jagex gets it straightened out. Second, getting 30 mining and a membership takes a day or 2 and $5. Remember, you're starting over with only a bronze pick, and only bronze and tin to mine. Remember also that Jagex is regularly banning rune essence autoers. Sure, you could get a membership and get your mining up to 30, and then mine pure essence, but you run risks by doing so. You run the risk of being banned before ever getting the chance to sell the essence that you mine - meaning you just got a members account which you paid $5 for banned with no return on your money. Not to mention, you just spent several hours getting to 30 mining for nothing. That's quite a deterrent. Third, someone mentioned that autoers could simply mine regular essence and make airs to sell for money. The point of an autoing account is to make money fast - auto essence miners want to be able to create an account, do the quest, and then walk to Varrock and set their computer and forget it for a day or longer. Now, they are required to go to the essence mine for a day, where they risk being banned, and then walk o Falador and set their computer to auto there making runes. Meaning it will take twice as long to realize the profits, and will give Jagex twice as long at two different sites to catch people autoing before they can sell their items for profit. This probably isn't a deterrent to people creating throwaway accounts to try and make money this way, but it gives Jagex a much greater opportunity to catch autoers before their ill-gotten goods hit the market. Especially since they will have to work for a long time to make enough multiple airs to make enough money to justify the time spent. Fourth, re: bans - the people buying the essence off of of the autoers for a fair price aren't targeted. Jagex merely looks for either an obscene amount of essence being given away, or an obscene amount of money being given away. These types of transactions inidcate either an autoer getting essence for a main character, or Runescape money being sold for real world money. Buying essence gotten from autoing is not illegal, or else anybody with a decent runecrafting level would be banned by now :? Finally, the price of pure essence will rise sharply, and people are complaining - but they shouldn't. Essence obtained from autoing floods the market, driving the price aritificially low. I think the market recently reached the breaking point, as I've seen obscene sales offers on world 2 like "Selling 632k ess 28 each!" Members can turn a ridiculous profit on ess bought at that price - with so much essence available that far outweighs the demand, nature rune crafting became ridiculously unbalanced as far as a way for making money. No other skill can make 300k profit per hour at level 44 - and members can easily get 44 runecrafting in a few days, even starting from scratch. This should put pure essence at a more reasonable price, like 60-80 each. This actually sucks for me, as I need a crapload of cosmics, and people will either not make them any more or charge a lot more for them. But it seems unreasonable that a skill should be so profitable at a low level. The other thing it will do is make runecrafting more viable for free players. Essence sold at 30-40 each makes low level runecrafting a losing proposition - it was much cheaper to just buy runes at a shop than buy essence and craft your own airs, waters, and especially earths and fires. Sure, you could mine your own essence, but who wants to spend hours mining essence just to get a couple thousand elemental runes? The new f2p essence will sell much cheaper - and newer players will still probably be happy to get the 10-20 I suspect the regular essence to sell for when first starting out in the game. Which will make f2p runecrafting a much more useful and profitable skill. And in case your wondering about this essay, no I don't work for Jagex  But I applaud what seems like a good and pretty creative method to deal with cheaters. I realize that, at least initially, Jagex will also reap substantial benefits from thousands of autoers signing up for memberships, and this no doubt played a part in implementing this solution. I also realize that, having not logged on yet and seen the new essence, if they look the same it gives scammers an easy way to scam - something that should be immediately fixed, perhaps by putting a hole in the middle of regular essence. But overall, the positives will far outweigh the negatives. And unlike some people, I don't consider Jagex making more money to be a negative.

Leveling Herblore?
If you go to crowded druids, most of the players killing them will be dropping guams, marrentills, and tarromins. Just kill some druids and pick these up when they appear on the floor.

FARMING PROCESS FOR BEGINNERS - Plug and Play!
A couple of minor additions you might want to make: Someone may want to start farming, but not want to bother getting their thieving up to 38. You should advise such a player that they can very easily get allotment seeds up to tomato, flower seeds up to woad, hops seeds of practically all kinds (very few people grow hops, and most people are bank-space challenged and get rid of the seeds), and maybe even low level herb seeds. Just hang around Draynor master farmers/bank, or Ardy master farmers and see if the people thieving are dropping, or will give you low level seeds. Chances are they'll be happy to unload. Also, for stealing, I prefer to take 10 cakes with me while stealing, and store extras just in case. That leaves 18 slots open for seeds. Chances are very good that you will get hit many times by the farmer before filling up 18 inventory slots with seeds, and your cake consumption will still almost always outpace your seed varieties, especially at lower thieving levels. It's more a matter of preference, I guess, but it saves needless running back and forth from the bank - particularly useful for players who wish to steal seeds at Ardougne, in order to have their cake source close by, since the master farmer is a few clicks from the bank. A very quick way to get to Entrana is to simply go through the abyss - rub to Edgeville, bank everything, and RUN! Sure it's dangerous (though you only risk losing a bit of time if you die), but very fast, and you can go through the law altar at any level. Plus it puts a bank right on your way to Entrana - very convenient, because otherwise a bank would be a bit of a hike, and if you're anything like me, clicking through the dialogue with the monks 5 times is incredibly annoying, especially if you get there and realize you forgot to unequip a staff. Going through the wildy and abyss will force every player to stop and think about banking everything.

Expierence formula
A quick and easy tip for experience - if you double the current amount of experience you have in a skill, you will be 7 levels higher. Doesn't hold true until after level 20 or so, but it's a nice rule of thumb for training, if you have a far away goal and want to quickly calculate where a certain amount of exp will get you, or how much more you need to reach a certain level.

sara mage on clues not totaly gone

28 March 2006 - Temple Trekking
The silver bar and iron and coal rewards sound pretty damn good. How long does it take, on average, to complete the hardest trip?

is PKING right?
Abyss pking is good for when someone abyss pks you. Helps relieve the stress by getting some easy kills. I know, it would make a lot more sense to go after the guy who pked you, but they never stick around.

What did you use your 20k lamp on?(Completed Recipe Quest)

Combat as a percent of total XP - now with data and charts!
16,595,254 total exp 3,245,863 combat exp Combat percentage is 19.5% 8) It used to be much lower, until recently I've been on a ranging/slayer training binge. But it's funny to note that my mining and smithing exp are both higher than my total combat exp. And also funny to note that nearly half of my "combat" exp comes from magic. The percentage goes down to about 12 with magic out of the picture. I definitely qualify as a skiller, 78 combat and 1339 total levels.

The Combat triangle=Unbalanced?
Except kill a ranger

Mole Drop List
Another kill, besides big bones and mole stuff, I got 690 iron arrows.
-
Mole Drop List
2 kills, I got an addy longsword and a strength amulet in addition to the mole stuff. Mage isn't useless, both my kills were done with mage only. You will miss him a lot, but it's not totally hopeless - just use a hard hitting spell, and with a little luck you'll get the drop. My melee and range are crap, so mage is my only option. It does work, but if there are a lot of high level melees there, you'll probably be out of luck.

The rarest random event?
I got like 4 mimes over the course of 2 weeks, have full mime and I think 2 of the emotes. Gotten 3 mazes, 2 Evil Bobs and 1 Drill Demon, over the course of about 6 months. Never had freaky forester or quiz master, I don't even know what they are. I think these events are probably about even in terms of rareness, just depends on how the RNG gets you.

Magic Secateurs - What is their function?
OT, I know, but you should never grow a tree without paying the farmer to watch it.
-
Most overlooked skill in RS?
Definitely farming. A steady supply of ranarrs to herblore or sell makes a lot of money. And having your own yew or magic trees that nobody else can cut is extremely useful.

WHY did you become a member?
Goldsmith gauntlets.

Blast Furnace!
YES! This is a great idea. I think we should organize a "permanent" team, and set rules where we rotate jobs so everyone gets a chance to just stand there and smelt & smith, and make sure that everyone brings the ores they want to smith noted so that the ores don't run out. That way everyone can stay down in the furnace as long as they have ore.
