Do f2pers have to wrok harder for cash?
Even merchanting is much harder in F2P then in P2P though. But indeed, good merchants should still be able to get rich reasonably fast in F2P too.

Do f2pers have to wrok harder for cash?
Most F2P skill money makers make 50-100K / hour. Most P2P-only skill money makers make 100-400K / hour. F2P'ers have to work harder for their cash yes.

Tip.It Times Presents: Construction & The Price...
I have mentioned my guestimates on that in this article I wrote, if you are interested to read (and haven't already read that article ofcourse :)). Ofcourse the 10gp / exp ratio is just an average. I'm sure there are plenty of people leveling for a lot cheaper, just like there are enough people leveling more expensive then that ratio. Remember that the whole lobster market is completely player-to-player: no money comes into the economy nor goes out of the economy, it just changes from ownership. Thanks for mentioning the rise of raw lobster price though - I'm not in touch with RuneScape enough to notice such changes (quickly) myself anymore. :) Are you sure their rise is caused by the cape update and that they weren't higher before that update already? I suppose their price rise makes sense though. The new capes give people a reason to actually get a 99 and cooking is one of the easiest skills to do that with. Thanks for the replies. :)

Tip.It Times Presents: Construction & The Price...
No - nor do I think they should want to limit it totally, especially not at the risk of overdoing it (read: turning the inflation into deflation), as long-term deflation is far more disastrous for the price stability of RuneScape. In fact, a certain amount of money growth is currently perfectly healthy, as the amount of people playing this game is still growing at a reasonable pace. Ideally the money growth should be roughly equal or slightly higher then the player population growth. The money growth in RuneScape is much higher then the population growth though, and Jagex should try to limit that as much as possible. Yes, I have read his articles and they are very interesting. They partly inspire me to continue my own research as well. :)

Tip.It Times Presents: Construction & The Price...
Sadly not, nor do I think I will ever play rs again. Who knows, I do have a huge interest in that subject. :) While the period cannot be determined that precisely, it does seem like a typical rise lasts roughly 3 or 4 months with most of the price growth happening in just 1 or 2 months. After this, the prices seem to drop slightly or go sideways for a short period of 1 or 2 months, after which the whole cyclus starts over again. The graph itself is not *that* useful, but it does show that the rares market has its up's and downs and that the future can be predicted a little bit with the help of the graph. The graph actually shows the economic theory of the 'conjuncture movement' which says that economic growth goes with periodical ups and downs, which follow consequently after each other. The idea is that the long-term price development of rares is mainly influenced by the total amount of gp ingame (which we can assume to be steadily growing). However, on the short-term prices do not need to follow the total amount of gp so literally. On the short-term, there are a lot of other (temporary) effects, like whether people are currently positive or negative about the future of rares, whether it is is summer, christmas or halloween and/or whether there has just been a huge update in the game. Yes that doesn't sound too unreasonable. Do keep in mind that is less then 1gp / exp gained difference though. I believe the 10gp / exp ratio I used is on the very high side for just leveling the skill alone and thus part of it should (ideally) make up for the expensive items people also make with construction. Ofcourse it's extremely hard to make it 100% accurate or anywhere near that though. ;) And thanks for the positive replies everyone. :)

Lending a hand is no longer allowed?
I know, but the matter that they don't even give any credit nor try to solve issues professionally with regards to people who have supported, helped and trusted Jagex during a very long time already, does make it worse. I can understand if there are people who feel that I do not have that much room to talk as I did my part as well, but: - that did not give Jagex, or a specific Jagex moderator, the right to outrightly break the Data Protection Act by leaking out confidential information between them and me to individual player(s). - that did not give Jagex, or a specific Jagex moderator, the right to accuse me of possibly abusing my player moderator position to my advantage, without any evidence to back that up. And Jagex should be perfectly aware of this, but they are apparently not interested in taking responsibility for this by appologizing to me.
-
Lending a hand is no longer allowed?
Apparently Jagex has no trouble with accusing loyal player mods of things they didn't do. I'm actually amazed by the amount of other high profile players having trouble with this.

Bush sneaks in a ban on online gambling with new bill
Yup that's probably the most important reason. That is their own fault though. It's their choice to scare away any initiative to start US based online poker businesses. Also for those who say it has always been illegal, that's not true. In fact, it still isn't illegal. Read this if you have time to waste and want to know more on that. :P

Bush sneaks in a ban on online gambling with new bill
I was wondering when someone was going to post about this. :P Prices of stocks of large online poker businesses fell 28% to even 64% in some cases...

Green Mask vs. Santa Hat
^^ says it all. Wouldn't be surprised if they temporarily pass masks around their pre-christmas peak again.
-
My estimates of the economy
Well, santa's have clearly peaked extremely high each year at some point before christmas and have seen significant price drops afterwards as well (mainly because the prices of santa's had gone way too high each time). Since the graph is not detailed enough to show the facts very clearly, here is the exact data: 20-12-2003 - Peak of 300K reached 1-6-2004 - Rock-bottom of 140K reached 1-12-2004 - Peak of 750K reached 24-1-2005 - Rock-bottom of 400K reached 26-10-2005 - Peak of 5.700K reached 1-1-2006 - Rock-bottom of 3.800K reached As can be seen, the peak and rock-bottom time became earlier each year. This was mainly caused by anticipating merchants (including me back in the days :P), who observed and predicted this yearly, periodical behaviour after the first year already. How it will go exactly this year is hard to say, although I would certainly be surprised if we are not going to see a peak and a rock-bottom this year again. I am quite interested to see the exact peak and rock-bottom dates of this year though.
-
My estimates of the economy
To be precise: they tend to peak before christmas, and tend to drop to a rock-botton of 40% below their peak afterwards. However, people should keep in mind that history does not have to repeat in exactly the same way though. Sorry, but in the long-term price development there is no real evidence for a difference in the price growths of small (wearable) rares versus phats. They both tend to go up roughly ~15% a month. This is only an average though - there have been months were rares grew 50% and there have been months where rares dropped 10%. Therefore this kind of data is only really useful for long-term predictions and you should be really wary to use it for short-term predictions. There are tons of other factors influencing the prices of rares on the short-term. :)

Macroers and Economy
Aside from the fact that trying to monopolize a free market is practically not possible as you simply cannot unite so many people, there is another issue as well... Assuming you could unite all those people, it would probably still not be profitable for the simple reason that you also need to SELL the material stocks you own at some point. Anyway, manipulating markets solely by just buying up massive amounts of the product for a short period, with the intention to let the prices peak and then quickly unload your stocks, is the most reasonable and practical way to do it. This way you prevent the need of uniting tons of people, although you'll still need a considerable amount of money to try this ofcourse. However, even if you can pull off the buying part of that succesfully and also succeed in driving up the prices considerably above what you paid, it remains questionable whether you can really profit enough from it for it to be worthwhile. The issue of selling your stocks will remain; as soon as you start your massive selling, prices are likely to collapse quickly. Furthermore, rares typically increase 15% / month, so in order for it to be interesting it needs to be worth the time and effort you spend in it, plus that it should earn you (a lot) more then what rares typically go up in price. ;) Simple merchanting combined with just investing your money in rares, however boring it may be (:P), will probably beat these risky money making idea's any time. Unless ofcourse, you can trigger a doom scenario for the material market that I discussed about with someone else here (will have to read a bit further in that thread): the possibility of permanent increases in the prices of materials.
-
Macroers and Economy
Not practically possible. Theoretically probably not even very useful. I can't really follow the logic of people here who are arguing macroing is 'good' because it is supposively 'good' for the economy though. Aside from the macroers themself, the only ones who are somewhat profitating from the macroing are the rich players. They have an enhanced buying power due to the custom low prices of materials caused by macroing and they profit from the indirect effect that rares raise more due to autoing as well. The main part of the legit community only suffers the downsides, which are customly low prices on the materials they sell and perhaps also the higher prices on the rares they want to buy.

Grammar - Your forum appearance
I don't mind if people have some spelling errors in their posts, or when their grammer isn't completely correct. In fact, I usually don't even care so much when someone's post is full of them, as long as I can see they tried - you'll have to remember not everyone learns english as well in school as others, nor is writing on this forum equal to a test that you take for school. BUT if I can easily see that someone just totally didn't bother to write well, then why should I take that person seriously?

Long? If anything I'd call that short... :P That's a total of 350 - 700 made per hour, mind you. Mass production enough to have significant power over the prices - that is what I ment.
