Tip.It Times - 4th March 2012
Regarding XP: Worth Less, Not Worthless - I can understand where some people are coming from when they complain about things getting too easy. And sometimes it is just annoying when you get 99 in a skill the "hard"/original way and then suddenly it gets loads easier. Like I got 99 herblore before "mix x" and then literally a week later they released it. I was kind of like.... ugh. But, I do think it's necessary. The massive amount of clicking in this game can lead to insanity so I appreciate the "mix x," "fletch x," "cut x," etc. Like, getting to ~92 prayer actually made me quit the game for a while. The insane amounts of clicking just drove me... insane. Now I guess you could argue that it's too easy with "pray x" but I do think it was a change for the better. The toolbelt doesn't bother me at all. I like that we now have one (or more) less inventory space to worry about when doing certain skills, and I really like that a lot of actions are now left click. I don't see it as devaluing XP, I see it as a welcome convenience.

24-hour limit on link posting?
I can definitely understand the benefits, but I really don't like inconveniencing "regular" new members. When I join other forums I find "new member posting restrictions" a real pain.. Earlier today we had kind of a one off where it took a while for a spammer to be banned, but I think usually we're very prompt with removing them.

I'd like to take this time to thank tip.it....
Yeah Jagex does send out the occasional e-mail about loyalty points or a RuneScape newsletter, and then there are recovery e-mails. So saying "If you ever get an e-mail from Jagex it's a phishing scam" isn't really accurate. However, you can remember that there is NEVER a reason to click on any links. If you need to go to RuneScape.com, navigate there yourself. There's never a reason to click on the link in the e-mail.

The paint of a digital variety... (27th May finally returning!)
Well regarding the skin, there are a lot of things to consider. First, you actually could go a lot darker than you are. Especially around the eyes and the right (his left - our right) side of the face where the hair comes down. Just a few examples found in 2 seconds on dA: [hide] [/hide] Notice the wide range of tones and shades in the skin. The darkest parts are usually around the eyes and under the nose. Which brings me to my next point... Ideally you should have started with a background. Because all objects take in colours from their environment. If you're standing in a dark, murky, swampy area, you'll likely see shades of dark greens/yellows/blues in the skin, hair, clothes, etc. Because colours are drawn from the environment. Just looking through the examples I showed before, you see pinks, reds, browns, blues, yellows, and greens. Not just the same tan-ish colour with different values. This is obviously most prominent in the last image because the woman is standing in kind of a gross area just in front of a tank of water (I think?). So that draws in a lot of green, blue, and yellow. I would recommend using a reference to get the facial structure more defined. A few places to watch out for: The nose. You should be able to see the nostrils from that angle. Noses are a real pain to draw so I feel you there.. but using a reference should help a lot. Above the mouth. I don't know what that little area is called, but I'm referring to that little indent between the upper lip and the nose lol. The lips are a little too thin IMO. They could also be extended a bit on the right (his left - our right) side. If you decide to define them a little more, you can also add some better shading to the mouth area around the lips. For example, if you look closely at some of the images, you'll see there are usually bright highlights just above the top lip, shadows near the far corners of the mouth, and then highlights just under those shadows. The chin area. You've worked on it a little bit and I can see where you slightly rounded out around that area, but you need a bit more shading directly under the lip. If you look at some of the images I posted you can see what I mean. In general you could use stronger definition in the hcin area, but what you really need is that little dark spot under the lip. Obviously mastering the facial structure will require a lot more practice and study.. and some features will always piss you off (noses.. I bloody hate noses!! :P). But the more you study from photographs and the more you pay attention to the details, the more progress you'll make

The paint of a digital variety... (27th May finally returning!)
I don't know if you plan on going back to it, but the skin could use a fair bit of work. It looks pretty blotchy and uneven. You could use a lot more tones and shades in there and work on the blending. Crafting out the overall shape of the face through shading could be improved as well. I'm also not sure if you're done with the eyes, but a lot more could be put into them. For example, the whites could use a bit of shading. Right now they look very flat. They need to look more rounded and 3D. The irises could also use more shading, detail, and colour. You could use something like this for reference: The iris is darker at the top where it meets the eyelid, and around the edges. There's usually a lot of colour in the middle, which helps give it a sense of dimension. More interesting highlights would also help a lot. And don't forget eyelashes!!! I know how weird it sometimes feels to draw them on men, but eyes look so naked and strange without them.

Disable posting links for new members?
Please use the /!\ Report Post function to report rule-breaking users, rather than make topics about them. If you want to make a suggestion about our rules, you can post it in Forum Updates & Suggestions. However, disabling posting links for new members is probably something that we won't do. We don't like imposing restrictions on new members and most rule-breaking posts get removed very quickly. This case taking a while was a one off.

Anyone encounter this before?
Looks like you got muted by a player moderator. Those mutes last 2 days. From what I understand, the evidence isn't shown until it passes through Jagex or something.

Stellar Dawn put on hold
They have actually built quite a bit.. WAY more than Stellar Dawn anyway. They've represented the game at several gaming conventions and there have been quite a few news articles about it (not surprising since it's such a popular IP). The ETA is late 2012. Wear it to the next Runefest you attend? Sure, if I remember :P

Star Wars: The Old Republic
Yeah biochem all the way! When I started out it was the only one that actually seemed beneficial. I learned from other games that making your own armour/weapons/etc. usually never turned out to be that helpful or profitable. Obviously I couldn't say for certainty that would be true with SW:TOR, but I think I made a good choice with biochem.

Farming times
They won't die after they've fully grown :) Once they're grown they're done and they'll stay that way until you harvest them.

~*Medi's Blog*~ The life of a maxed F2Per. 120 Runecrafting, 1.6b XP - halfway to 200m all F2P!
Congratulations on the runecrafting level! I thought I was all cool getting 99 rc on nature runes in P2P, but F2P is a whole different ballpark! :P I'm sorry I didn't see your blog before, it's quite a nice read. Keep up the awesome progress! :) I'll likely check back again in a few days!

MembershipScape
I'm not normally into these kinds of videos, but I enjoyed yours quite a bit. Thanks for sharing :) You did bring up some really good points. I understand that Jagex is a business and they do have to turn out a profit if they're going to continue to exist. I can honestly understand channelling most new updates towards P2P members. You pay - you get more benefits. It makes sense. What I will never understand is TAKING AWAY features that F2P always had in the past (such as high scores). That's just a very low move.

Dreams - post/share
Well this one was strange. It started out with my rich friend having a birthday party. Her parents rented her a really fancy, but also historic boat. I have no idea how it was 'historic' when it was so modern and fancy looking, but it had something to do with Egypt. We were all having fun and jumping off the boat into the ocean. Then my alarm went off irl, but I went back to bed and the dream went off in a new direction. Someone like... came onto the boat or somehow bestowed a quest upon pairs of us (like me and someone else got a quest, two other people got a different one, etc.). I think it was also a race. Like who completes the quest first wins. We ended up going back in time to Egypt like hundreds or thousands of years ago. The quests were mostly to collect certain things by a deadline.. but they were random and hard to obtain. My partner and I had to collect 3 things. I don't remember what the first two were, just that we were trading feathers for one of the items at some kind of trade market. Eventually we realized that the market people had been ripping us off. They claimed that feathers were super rare and hard to find and we were having a hard time getting enough to trade with... but eventually we discovered that there were loaaaaaaaaads of feathers in their backyard, they obviously just didn't want us to know about them. We also kept hearing from random people that no one has ever completed a quest from this guy. Anyway the last item we had to get was a quiche. What the hell. But we couldn't get it and we were running out of time. So we went back to the boat (I guess we had to be back at the boat by a certain time to travel back to present time). One other couple was already there but we didn't want to talk to them so we snuck onto the boat and went in a different area. We ended up having fun and 'play fighting' on the boat, thus destroying a lot of stuff. I don't know what happened in the end, except that when we got back to present time the boat was destroyed and then it truly was some historical thing and not a modern day construction. I feel like I need to write a book about this. Lulz.

28-Feb-2012 - Squeal of Fortune
I've had pretty much one experience lamp per day. Not a total loss  Same, except lately I've been getting lamps for the skills I don't need! :P (prayer lamp - I have 99, and rc lamp - I have 99) Grrr!

Today...
20 actually affected me more than 21. In the US when you're 21 you can drink, but that's about it, and I don't care about drinking. Nothing 'special' happens at 20 but it means you're officially not a teenager. You're out of the teens and into the 20s. 21 is just one more year. Not as much of a numerical milestone for me.

:: tripsis :: 99 Woodcutting!
It's alright :P I was really into it in 2007. It's definitely not as good as it was then. I actually hadn't logged on for ages before today but I thought I'd hop on for fun :P Especially because the Rohan expansion is coming out this year and that's just epic :P Thanks!
