Safespot for Ankous in Stronghold of Security Question
Doomster replied to Frzphnx's topic in Help and Advice
The northeast room spots are "cover" raher than safe, once melee'd into submission, mage can be used effectively. I lost piles of runes in that room, and completely failed to claim or hold a spot. The first "Room 2" spot in the guide is the one I recognise (no idea about the others), easy to work, but DO NOT try to leave a trapped skeleton for later, if it is aggroed on you (turns toward you as you move), then you must eliminate it. Logging out from the safespot may be another way to make it go away. Remember, you can log in and out when they are non-aggressive and they will continue to ignore you, but if you get a random event that takes you away, they WILL become aggressive. NB. If you log out of the safe spot while they are still aggressive, it is possible that you may log back in with one in the safe spot, it will probably attack you when it moves a step out. -
Multicombat wilderness is especially dangerous, as while multiple monsters rarely attack (unless it's an "assist" such as with the Al-Kharid guards), multiple players in clans can and do attack simultaneously, or in pairs such as a binding mage and a melee killer.

First suggestion, make sure you complete the current easter event, as you can always dump the outfit and get it back from Diango, that covers you for a "I'm no macro" level 3 outfit. It really comes down to a level 3, classic skill pure, and the best outfits for a level 3, or A defence pure skill pure, with either decorative versions of black, mithril (can you do Initiate on a def pure?), Addy, Rune (though limited to plain chain), or the whole hog to dragon. Main problem with going defence pure, it will mean a lot of time spent skilling defence, instead of on profitable skills. The gap from rune to dragon when hitting with 1 attack & strength, will be enormous - really, a defence pure is, in itself, a kind of skill pure.

New Windows Update killed my computer
Doomster replied to darkblade986's topic in Tech and Computers
There is a problem with the update, and with Realtek HD Audio http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448 - this patch was previously a "contact Microsoft", but is now available to download. -
What's the weakness of Dark Wizard(lvl 20)?
Doomster replied to triple_h5500's topic in Help and Advice
Against Wizards... Range armour > Mage gear > nothing > Metal armour For a bucketload of assorted runes (including some that can't be F2P crafted), I usually go up against the Wizards in the wilderness above Falador, using: 1. Best range armour, anti-dragonfire shield if I have one, wooden/training shield or none, cape and boots, melee weapon. Middle grade food to use up, full prayer charge (if applicable), maybe a teleport, though I usually just get combat with a wizard and then break south if any PKers are threatening. 2. Go ranged - the combat triangle makes this a very effective method, especially at the Varrock circle, which is often completely owned by rangers, with melee having trouble getting any combat. 3. Go mage to mage - good for mage levelling on self-made strike runes (fire or earth strikes, fire gets more power per mind rune, but earth uses half the airs) while pulling in some extra runes such as Natures, Chaos, Laws or Cosmics. -
The holiday event suits are also good for skill pures, generally have no weight, and need more doing than most botters could be bothered with as a one-off. Also replaced free if lost, what more could you ask?

Winupdate and Winupdates - as what appear to be normal program entries, are highly suspicious, many google hits on them being worms. So far, I think I would fix: O2 - BHO: (no name) - {57E218E6-5A80-4f0c-AB25-83598F25D7E9} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\nmeinsxh.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5FC32D8B-6888-4C33-88FD-C6996BB61C1C} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\gebcc.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {E44527F6-1296-4A84-B67D-A6CEA6ED4B69} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\qomjjjg.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winupdate] C:\Program Files\winupdate\winupdate[Caution] /auto O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winupdates] C:\Program Files\winupdates\winupdates[Caution] /auto O20 - Winlogon Notify: gebcc - C:\WINDOWS\System32\gebcc.dll O20 - Winlogon Notify: qomjjjg - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\qomjjjg.dll - With the Java entries that are "file missing", I'd be inclined to uninstall Java 5 (after completion of malware cleaning), clean up any more "file missing" issues, and then install Java 6.

Unless it's a foreign version, the foreign stuff seems highly suspicious. The BHO's (O2's) seem very suspicious: First one http://www.castlecops.com/tk32250-no_name.html - yes, it's bad. Second one, gebcc.dll is identified as "winfixer" - badware 3rd one, no solid identification, but the GUID seems to have many bad references, and a pretty nonsense filename. Out of time now, but I don't like the look of the winupdate / winupdates - looks like a classic malware hide, unless there is a legitimate product it may be associated with.

F-o-r has become 4, but when they reverse it, will all those that were originally number 4 change as well ?

Free to Play Primary Account Pures Guide/General Guide V.9
Doomster replied to Frzphnx's topic in General Guides
Covers most points. I've started a few pures and "fun runners" since my main, and settled on a firm tactic for tutorial island and early development. 1. Choose your appearance at the start, definitely... I cant resist giving a pure mage a long white beard. 2. Only fish to level 2 on the island, that should get level 3 cooking (I like to maximize cooking to fishing, so find getting 3 fishing with no more cooking to be a waste. 3. Train strength to 3 in the rat cage, if you are melee pure or hybrid 4. Train ranged to 3 with replacement arrows, unless range will never be used (note: melee pure +40 ranged = best F2p pure armour). 5. Talk/drop with the magic tutor, to get 25 (5 sets) of each rune, mage out to to level 3. Melee pure: Go to varrock dummies, and get 8 attack. Fishing: Don't waste bait on sea fish, shrimp need no resources, and give the highest ratio of cooking to fishing. Cash tips for low levels: 1. Leave no drop uncollected (other than normal bones, and items you are certain are junk). Most items can be sold at a store, often for more than the typical coin drop of the monster. 2. World 16 air running.. 2k just for some travelling, no skills required, though no skills levelled either. Actually, that brings a point for minining and smithing... Either be an ore trader, or a smither, trying to do both means unsatisfactory smithing progress. -
Most notable for those enormous Datapac 30MB drives... try sticking one of those in a pocket, not like a USB key!

For melee, it's rune or equivalent "luxury" armours such as trimmed or god, though god armour does NOT aid prayer. To complete the melee set, it's stronghold boots, cape and green dragonhide vambraces if you have the ranged level for them, otherwise leather gloves or vambs, or (luxury) coloured (Canifis) gloves - equivalent to leather, but more decorative. Add weapon and amulet of choice, generally rune scimitar and strength or power. For Range - full green dragonhide with coif, cape, boots (leather) and power amulet. Trimmed and gold trimmed for luxury. For mage - the "plain" outfit is cheap, wizard hat, robe, monk bottom if you pray, mage amulet, cape, boots (leather) and gloves. Trimmed and gold trimmed for luxury, though the trimmed bottom has no stats. If you use gold trimmed, DO get gold (coloured) gloves to finish it with.

God armour is not possible on a pure skiller, since it needs 40 defence and Dragon Slayer for the plate. For a level 3 skiller, trimmed or gold trimmed wizard robes are about the only TT outfit that can be used. For a cheap skiller outfit, actually, normal Wizard is not bad, most importantly it's lightweight. Where a little more weight can be tolerated, the fake guard outfit is another possibility - Bronze med, Iron chain, Iron square and so on. Of course, a defence pure skiller can move up the armour levels, or stop at gold trimmed black - I'd say one of the classiest armours in RS, and one of the cheaper ones.

Laughed at the mention (in the THG forum thread) of "being featured on MINICLIP", as in the opinion of many players from before that time, Miniclip has been a significant route for immature and disruptive players, while "immature" may or may not necessitate being under the minimum age. Similarly, MTV Arcade probably brings many low grade players, who turn to the dark side of begging for items.

Do you look like an auto, well actually, the autos have progressed a bit from the "no changes" default, so they can be found wielding the melee tutor kit, etc. Similarly, some probable autos may have random event items. The toughest things I can think of, that autos or their botmasters would not bother with due to the time, are: 1. Fancy boots (can do at level 3, no retaliate, run & eat). 2. Sliverlight (no need to do the fight, so can stay at level 3). 3. Blurite sword (tough on a lvl 3, but doable). They are all things which cannot be traded, so they have to be done on the character that displays them. And yes, the majority of level 3's and a little above (due to autoretaliated combat) demonstrating level 15+ skills, ARE AUTOS. Maybe it would be annoying, but Jagex could perhaps make more use of the tutors, so that after each increase in material grade (eg. Iron to steel, but not for item to item), maybe a return to the tutor and some sort of test should be required, rewarded with some XP or items.

404 - were they strongarmed by Jagex, just as a highly critical Tip it Times article was?

That sounds like the Edgeville dungeon, not the security one. The key can also be collected by passing through from the Edgeville entrance, in a side rooom jus before the ladder. Tends to be busy though, but varies, sometimes there is one spare hill giant, sometimes the place is packed beyond capacity. If you have champions guild access, it's usually the best place to do chickens. The farm north of Port sarim is also less busy, but everyone does the Lumbridge chickens. Cows for hides (crafting or sale) and bones are another option - must admit, I do most of my prayer level on "roadkill", scooping up leftovers from goblins, Al-Kharid guards, cows, Wizards (varrock, not recommended if under level 41, as the level 20 hits pretty hard).
-
Clay has a little potential, though with level 40 or better, the ONLY place to do clay is in the guild. Members can do plant pots (37.5xp) or after One Small Favour, pot lids (40xp) - not bad XP for a material that you will not be competing for. Non-member can do bowls (33xp) - still better than gold with no gems. In leather, members can do the Coif, in soft leather, with better XP than hardleather bodies and a "make X" option (37xp).
-
One thing to watch... sell or drop too much fish raw, and you can end up in the "fish it but can't cook it" trap for higher level fish - ok if you plan on selling raw, but not so hot if you want it for food.
-
My top F2P tip for hard to shift items... If you fish at Karamja, dispose of 5 at a time on each trip there, the store is rarely stocked with anything other than fish. You can usually profit from almost any bulk stocked item that way. If the object is merely disposal, selling items 10 at a time can be faster than dropping 1 by 1, though drawing and dropping a note of the full amount is faster still.

Smithing 27 ? You haven't done Knight's Sword - you'd be higher than that with no actual smithing done at all. So, prepare for the Blurite cave, and if survival is questionable, one-item it with your pickaxe. For 12,725 smithing XP, it's worth doing, and possible even with a pure or a level 3 (though you can expect to die a few times with a level 3). Have you done Doric's Quest, that's a little extra mining if you haven't

Looks like you got the source download The one you want from http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile ... _id=318532 is the "[Caution: Executable File] (32-bit Windows)" version - not linking direct, as it may screw up the mirror selection

why are pizzas, pies, cakes ands stuff so underated??
Doomster replied to mhkagent's topic in Help and Advice
The multi-bite issues is the main one that goes against using them, except for: 1. Agility - staying below half hitpoints means half damage, and the rate of damage is generally low. 2. Dharoking - recovering no more HP than needed for safety 3. Recovery - many suggested high level food inventories also include a few Pizza, for topping off hitpoints after a fight. At lower levels in F2P, the stew has potential, like fish, it is one bite, and may be cooked on a fire, and at 11 healing for level 25 cooking, it is the best cooked food before the level for Lobsters is reached. Not often traded, but a good self-prepare option. The other thing that favours fish, is it's simplicity... fish it, cook it Filled potatoes are another possible member option, with the Tuna potato (68 cooking) equaling the Manta ray (81 fishing / 91 cooking) -
A thing or two about Ankous.. (updated 5/27)
Doomster replied to Kuroi_Ame's topic in General Guides
A few minor issues - F2P (from a well practised F2P strongholder)... 1. Melee - the stronghold boots are a must, if you can do Ankou, you can reach the boots reward, the best melee boots in F2P. 2. Mage - crafting minds & airs, carrying fire staff, works well, and enables free maging, I reckon on about 20 fire strike throws per Ankou (autocasting), though I usually curse first. If I feel like using up some chaos runes, then I may go equipped for earth strikes, so the staff will autocast an earth strike if I fail to tee up a crumble. 3. Range - I find F2P range equipment performs poorly against them, though maybe with higher levels, it may turn. Food: Invariably, I multi-run using the river to provide trout/salmon, instead of bringing Lobster. Makes each run shorter, but with several faster reloads before banking, and probably faster overall if you consider the Karamja trip time. Using the F2P free maging method, they can be an agreeable source of law runes, though luck plays a large part, from a pair of laws at every other drop, to a dry spell of small coin drops and dark wizard tops. -
They got rid of the "fixed order" for the Zombie stuff, so you CAN randomly get the emote instead of pieces, but if you have all the pieces (and not the emotes), then the next one MUST be an emote. I'd suggest: Drop Zombie and Frog (they are common). Hang on to Mime (very rare, respect if you have a full set & full emotes), Camo (a small set & quite rare), Lederhosen (I remember dropping a ton if it when it came out, now it's rare).
