  1. P2P or F2P - in P2P it's simple, you need to get to 60 attack and DDP++ specials. F2P, concealed mage is a possible tactic, though you'd need to get your mage attack penalty down a bit, without obviously being a mage.
  2. Scimmy - fast, powerful in slash, the ultimate training weapon against unarmoured cloth or leather armoured opposition. Long sword - slower but slightly more powerful than the Scimmy, and popular with those who have not discovered the world 1 Varrock trade centre, as the Rune long is the best weapon available in F2P stores (in the Champions Guild) Two hander - slow but powerful, for delivering a killer blow in a weapon switch. B-axe - like the power, like the crush attack (use on plate), but it barely makes up for the low speed. Can be a good weapon for those training attack before strength. Wahammer - compromise speed, but a crush attack that's good against plate - an uncommon F2P weapon though. Mace - also uncommon other than with "Monk pures" who value it's prayer bonus. Crush and stab are a perfect match, but the remaining stats leave it seriously outclassed. The stab is a contriolled attack, and inferior to the primary crushing attack.
  3. The staffs vary slightly in melee combat stats, but the F2P stafds are generally categorized 3 ways. 1. Staff - the "slightly magical stick" - has a small stat boost, allows spell autocasting, is cheap, but has little else going for it. The "Skull Sceptre" has equivalent stats, no autocast, and limited teleport capability. 2. Magic staff - better stats, still cheap, and quite handy as part of a defence kit if you cannot wield ayour axe or pick when mining or woodcutting, since it has good defensive stats for a weapon. 3. Staff of (Air/Water/Earth/Fire) - most expensive, but saves a packet on runes, as a wielded staff acts as an unlimited supply of its matching rune. Other than minor melee stat variations, it is otherwise equivalent to the magic staff. The best choice of these depends on which runes you wish to avoid using - for fire spell casters, it tends to be a fire staff, though using an air staff and fire runes can make other players misjudge your power. The general uses are: Air: Wind casting, any combat spell casting, cconcealment of which spell you will be casting. Water: with earth/body runes - cursing Earth: with water/body - cursing, with air and mind/chaos/death - earth casting (uses 1 less air than fire spells) Fire: Fire casting, with nats - superheating or alching Usage of runes is the only reason to choose between them
  4. Oziach only replaces the key if it's needed, so if you lose/discard the key later, you cannot get a replkacement - on the other hand, the talk/drop trick can get you several spares, though other than guiding or combat training (no drops), there is little reason to go back after the quest.
  5. It can be very patchy at any level, though I'm pretty sure the ratio of swordfish to tuna does improve with level. Either go back to lobbies for a while, or can you make tuna sweetcorn potatoes? Other way, keep the tuna and use it where max healing is not an issue
  6. The 3 god armours all have the same stats as rune (and I believe, the same store and therefore item save value as rune). They also have the same requirements, 40 defence and Dragon Slayer quest for the platebody. How are the heraldic helms & kites faring compared to god armour?
  7. For point 2, remember the "going to F2P with a full bank" guide. Unless YOU cut yourbank down to 60 items or less, only items which already have a placeholder there can be banked. This has several effects on a well ordered ex-member bank: * You need 2 of every piece of equipment you use, and 1 of everything you might want to bank later. * Items which cannot be doubled up (eg. random event stuff) cannot be re-banked if taken out - full sets could be left in a cosume room (house) for safety. * You would do well to have at least 29 of every non-stacking bulk item at all times, and be very careful when withdrawing noted. * A careless "withdraw all" of stackable or noted items, can screw up the arrangement - just think of being stuck with millions of gp unbankable. Point 3: Nats, nats, more nats ... did I say nats? - actually, any rune that is useful in F2P but cannot be made there. Point 6: You meet a better class of player (usually) in members. If you have level targets, you won't need to play as long (that's what YOU say) to reach them.
  8. Try the tip.it map for the locations. For the talismans, there is no regular store, though batches of them occasionally crop up in Varrock. Otherwise, the most likely droppers are: Air: Goblins Mind: Imps Water: Wizards & dark wizards Earth: Men/Women Fire: (not sure, I've always used a staff for that) Body: Varrock city guards (maybe all city guards) Additionally, the Air/water/earth/fire Wizards west of Port Sarim drop matching runes or talisman.
  9. Do you have all the Windows update patches? It's possible that a poorly patched sytem could be sent a "crash packet", though that would require your IP address - the only way that could be obtained through RS, is if someone had got your password, and your IP address did not change from the last time. - then again, if someone had your password, there are simpler things they could do. Probably coincidence, but if there is an instability in the system, that could be a problem - could be anything, from software interactions, to crud in the heatsink causing overheating. Heck, the power could have just blipped slightly, and that CAN screwup the reset function on a PC until it gets a full powerdown to reset the reset. Everything else in the system working?, all cards? - A PCI card loose in its slot can produce some bizarre symptoms, and some of the longer cards can be very "tail happy", as I call any that have a tendency to lift at the unsecured end.
  10. If you are a pure mage in F2P, what do you want defence for? In P2P, 20 would be good for a "mystic pure", but there are no mage items in F2P that need defence. I wouldn't waste spell hit xp by casting in defence mode, better to melee any defence you do want.
  11. Cannon? Not sure what quests & levels you need to get it (this is another P2P thing, as it appears you are going to train in P2P) .... looks like it has no great requirements, but is an expensive weapon to buy and feed with ammunition.
  12. Using predominantly no hitpoint spells to train a pure mage, leaves you with an extremely fragile hitpoint level - while the attack power of mage 59 and 10 HP is impressive, a level 31 with a potential max hit of 16, unless an armoured oppenent is taken down before they can close in, the result will be painful. Also, for mage versus melee, the mage must take the initiative, preferably from a position which will prevent autoretaliation being effective. The disadavantage of making the first move, you skull (unless this is a quick return to an opponent who has already attacked you). The advantage, is in having the lead hit (assuming identical weapon speeds), or maybe more than one hit if maging or ranging against melee. Surprise is also a factor, the opponent may be looking in a different direction, and not be aware of your equpment and level.
  13. You will lose cash hand over fist in the air company at that level. From 20, I'd blast a few levels on bodies, mine your own ess - hit level 22 and that's 1 more air per ess, so a bit lower loss. Running fires with duel rings is another fast way, but uses two ring charges per run. Combination runes are good XP for their level, but you need a fair collection of talismans to burn, and a necklace of binding would be a help
  14. Definitely the "going to F2P with a full bank" should be used - this means samples of every item you will either get or make, that you may want to bank. Ores, bars, smithable items... no need to hold bronze if you are past that level, runes, logs, crafted items in all states of completion (amulets unstrung, strung, enchanted, symbols - unstrung, strung & blessed, tiaras, blank, all types and talismans) As for the skills: 1. Agility - the tun recovery should stay faster, though you'll lose the shortcuts. 2. Nats or other runes you can make in P2P and use in F2P 3. Need arrows?, fletch for your life. 4. Fishing, closer to a bank than in F2P (could save the cooking for later, as you don't have the mage level for cooking gauntlets) 5. Go like hell on possible clue droppers, in the hope of getting some (t) (g) or god - to sell, as you'd need a double set to hold the bank spot, though if you do want to wear god armour, you may have to consider that.
  15. Or in F2P, be an air runner on world 16.. Do rune mysteries quest, then run 25 un-noted esence to the air altar crafters - at busy times, it can take a while to catch a trade, and better have a few loads of ess back at the bank, as you WILL accidentally craft it yourself sometimes. Anyway, the standard trade is 2k coins and 25 noted ess for your un-noted. Some crafters deal in airs - 100, 125 or 150 airs and 25 noted ess. Some other deal law runes there, 2 laws and 25 noted ess, though that puts a high side valuation on the laws - 1k each for them is the "desperation price" for singles. With a stack of level 1's , also doing some other quests would be a bump: Cooks assistant: cooking Doric's quest: mining (buy or pickup 2 dropped iron ores, mine the rest) Knight's Sword: smithing (needs a redberry pie - buy or level 10 cooking and 2 iron bars - buy, or get to level 15 smithing on bronze) There are other F2P level assisting quests, but they don't help with "supply" levels.
  16. Expensive, but faster (as all the expensive methods tend to be), I'd rather keep the nats for high alch or bind, or to superheat something higher than steel, as it uses more coal per zap. The skeleton / steel mine is pretty poor - few ores, aggressive monsters and low level wilderness hazard - though I guess it's ok if the speed of mining is not a problem there.
  17. To make and use potions yourself, best to do a mixdown, especially as starting with four 3 dose potions will give you a spare vial and three 4's. To sell (anything other than strength potions in F2P), probably best to leave them as they come unless buyers ask for 4 dose. The strength potion in F2P is a special case, as the Apothecary makes them up as 4 dose
  18. Yes, mixed terms, though the only place you can PvP in F2P is the wilderness. F2P - or Free player / non-member = the "small" version of runescape P2P - or Pay to play / member = the "full" version. PvP - Player versus player - in F2P, this means one thing only, the wilderness, while the level of wilderness determine the unalterable rules of combat. 1-20: Relatively close matched combat, teleport escape possible (no teleblock in F2P), running to safety may be possible. 21-48: Increasing level allows greater "out of class" combat, and teleport escape not possible, other than by running to level 20 Additionally, multicombat areas enable huge wars or devastating ambushes. A major form of P2P PvP is duelling, in some respects similar to a one on one wilderness battle, but with set rules and stakes. An abbreviation used more often in other games, is: PvE or PvM - Player versus Environment or Player versus Monster - generally for combat or dangerous encounters with anything that is not another player.
  19. That's a pretty wide range of levels, 30-90 range is pretty much your entire time in RS mapped out - are you hybrid or impure ranger? minning from 1 to 30 (mining can be a good cash skill) smithing from 1 to 30 (smithing varies, steel bars are good cash) runecraft from 1 to 20 (runecraft is good if you use runes, but needs to be much higher for a good cash-out) woodcut from 1 to 60 (auto'ed to hell, would not recommend) fishing from 1 to 40 cooking from 1 to 40 range from 30 to 90 (range, I'd get 40 for green vambraces, on a ranger or warrior) defence from 20 to 40 (NO, absoloutely not - for a 40 target, get 34 and then do Dragon Slayer, which you need in order to make proper use of 40 defence, or stay at Mitril and studded body level) I would tend to choose fishing and cooking - first do Cooks Assistant for cooking level, then fish, woodcut, firemake and cook like crazy. I've levelled to 20 on shrimp (and anchovy), as I'm too mean to buy bait, then I switch to fly fishing, and survive on trout until I can do better - naturally, killing chickens for feathers, and even cooking chicken for a little extra xp. Buying food is a mugs game, that is the basic priciple of all my accounts from main down to the sceptre seeking pures.
  20. You are not pure, so you can use tears of Guthix (no use for 1 defence pures, as it will raise defence. Quest points determine the time you get on the tears, and the level of your lowest skill (until 30), alters the XP value given, so maybe doing a little of everything and a few quests (like Druidic, to open up herblore and get level 3) would be better, before your first tog. I'd go for a bit of everything, but concentrating on area opening and quest requirements.
  21. Looks like the way to go would be a cannon hybrid (cannon for ranged without hitpoints, poisoned daggers for melee poison damage without hitpoints), pretty sure it could be done, but along with using every bit of non-HP damage (throw in recoils as well), it would probably mean doing every bit of combat as slayer, then retiring from combat and any skill when in danger of getting another 99, so the untrimmed slayer cape could be paraded.
  22. If you go tiaras, one thing you may have to do is compromise... "buying all talsmans". 40 gp a shot for essence - surely it's not back to pre-pure essence levels? All my RC levels have come from mining a K then RCing a K, and my mage levels from burning up the runes I make.
  23. One thing makes it worth it - coins STACK, so even if one coin drop is a bit poor, it all adds up. Most of the Ankou drops (that are worth collecting) are stackable, at least in F2P - members may have a few worthwhile unstackable ones. Main problem, popping out of a safespot to take a poor drop may not be a good idea if they are still aggressive, depends how you do on food and firepower.
  24. Unless you have plans to upgrade to Vista, the reviews I've seen of the 8600 are not that great - usually beaten by equivalently priced DX9 models (eg 7950 with the right set of letters), so you are paying for future proofing with performance. The usual opinion is that it's priced a little on the high side for its performance, though that could change with offers, discounts and whatever.
  25. A tiara (any type) gives the same XP as 5 essence at the same altar. Except for wearing a blank tiara, carrying a talisman and 27 ess, where doing the talisman is like an extra 4 ess of xp, doing multiple tiaras in a run only works out to 2.5 times essence, as two spaces are used for each. Body talismans would be even better, especially as body runes are generally not in great demand. I treat talismans as a bit of free RC XP, but the idea of trying to get them in bulk... too much hassle.
