If you missed it, repeat the flush again.

Doing Chaos without the Abyss would avoid skulling, but the alternative route has other problems, like a 4 level maze. (Tip.it map) The "What lies below" quest gives you a safer route, with a shortcut from the statue near the Earth Altar to level 3 of the maze, but the Abyss is still going to be faster. Cosmics would be another possibility, useful in the Enchantment section of MTA.

One thing to watch - you will need a placeholder for rune essence, since you will switch to that when you leave members (at one time, having members items got you pure essence even in/demoted to F2P, but I doubt that it still applies)
-
If you have Oak to Yew logs, I'd add normal as well (not great xp, but you could keep a k or 2 in stock to fill a trade). I'd be inclined to placeholder pretty much anything that you can get or make now, and anything you may be able to make or get in the forseeable future. To the ores and bars, I would add sets of armour / all smithable items - 1 if you hope to make later, more if you already can (unless, say, you don't want to be bothered with bronze). Also consider any higher level items that you might want to merchant, or receive in trade... And finally, stock up like crazy on things you can only make in members.

Sounds like the CTRL key is stuck (or gummed up) - the mouse wheel thing is a dead giveaway, as CTRL + wheel is a shortcut to varying the text size. There is an urban legend about cleaning a keyboard in the shower - first, I'd try just working the keys with the keyboard tipped upside-down and hope the grot clears itself. If it's kill or cure, might as well give it a bath or shower, a good shake dry, and then a hairdryer (not too hot). Be aware that such treatment could either fix it or FINISH IT, but the alternative is buying a new one anyway.

Genie/other randoms cause you to drop your items?
Doomster replied to EugenyG's topic in Help and Advice
Never seen it, out of quite a few I've watched, the failures have all been tele-away - not sure if the items get scattered at the other end, perhaps. One word of warning to repeat... the old dodge of dropping items, getting a free noting service from the certers (Miles, Niles, Giles) and then picking up, will now leave you high and dry, as they now teleport you. -
Weirdest place you've been teleported due to failed random?

Not had it, but seen the monastery one - and the +2 prayer charge still works. -
What is the best armour/clothing for a level 5 with 3 def?
Doomster replied to nw12711's topic in Help and Advice
Not without some more significant defence levels - the next grade of trimmed armour is black (10 defence), and a full set of black (g) seems to be about the same as a set of standard rune. A couple more accessories to go with wizzy (g), the mage ammy (t) - I believe that IS tradable to F2P and gold gloves (they are canifis store gloves, not treasure trail). I wouldn't use a cape with that, but if you do, it has to be blue. -
Runescape runs too hot and uses too much processing power
Doomster replied to Venom's topic in Tech and Computers
I'll pull out the java applet setting string I use Under Java control panal, Java tab - Java applet runtime settings - Java Runtime parameters. -Dsun.java2d.d3d=true -Dsun.java2d.ddscale=true -Dsun.java2d.translaccel=true -XX:+UseParNewGC -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+CMSParallelRemarkEnabled There are actually two pieces in this: 1. -Dsun.java2d.d3d=true -Dsun.java2d.ddscale=true -Dsun.java2d.translaccel=true Forces use of the Direct3D rendering path in Java - there is also an openGL rendering path available, but I find it screws up the colour (maybe an ATI driver issue) 2. -XX:+UseParNewGC -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+CMSParallelRemarkEnabled Garbage collector tuning for DUAL CORE or HYPERTHREADING processors. Some of those items may be obsolete, as it is the string I used for the Java 6 open beta There is a final option, using the JDK and adjusting a settings file to use the Java server VM instead of the client VM. The server VM has greater applet startup overhead, as it uses more optimization, but should be more efficient at running longer duration tasks - Runescape seems closer to the profile of a server application, since it will be run for long periods, compared to the usual website froth that is a typical client application profile. -
Added/removed anything recently? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894730/en-us Are you using any virtual drive software, that may be where the Scsi drive comes from, and it may be interfering with the other drives.

If F2P melee pure, 40 range allows the best F2P 1 defence armour, green dragonhide vambraces & chaps, with iron (melee/range defence) or leather (range attack / mage defence) for the rest. 25 magic enables the first teleport. PS. For F2P range, don't spend - use the best F2P arrow droppers (iron & bronze), the Minotaurs, and you should end up with more arrows than you started with. I usually collect bronze as well, and then use them up whenever I have enough of them to make some kills.

What is the best armour/clothing for a level 5 with 3 def?
Doomster replied to nw12711's topic in Help and Advice
Direction? If staying skill (nearly) pure, then the only really posh kit is is gold trimmed wizard (blue), with stronghold boots (fancy). I'd be inclined to accessorize with the training shield, the yin-yang amulet and perhaps one of my two favourite display weapons - the blurite sword. We must be about due for a wieldable holiday drop, the last few have been wearables. -
Or Farmer Fred's, west side of the sheep pen (Lumbridge).
-
Unless it's changed yet again, world switchers are ok, but must not violate "world full" indication (nor hammer repeatedly for a change in "world full"). I'd be wary of RSDemon/Draco, as it has NOT been updated since the rule 7 rewrite, so it is likely the world switcher does not comply.

Even trickier than the respawn, you're in high level, multicombat wilderness (though you may be able to dodge east to single combat). The question is, do you feel lucky, well do you?
-
When you use the gold bar on the furnace, it gives you a menu showing what you can and cannot make. If you have cut gems that can be used at your level, it will offer the option to make with gems, or plain, but plain gold is not good xp, though ok if you have a stack of bars to dispose of and not enough gems.

In the stronghold, I usually mage the Ankou and range the Catablpons in the northwest room safespot - Ankou are weaker to magic, while catablepon are just a pain for most combat styles. I have a fine collection of sceptre pieces, and it's my standard "escape teleport", with replacements on tap if I lose it. Ranging over the wilderness ditch (either way) is a possibility, though there are few worthwhile tagets. It can also serve as a distraction while plotting a sniper attack into low level wilderness.

Mage training Crumble Undead or Fire Bolt?
Doomster replied to Tired_souls's topic in Help and Advice
Don't forget the Ankou, get nicely safespotted on them and let rip with the crumbles (I'd curse first, for better hits) and you could come back with a nice little pile of law runes, plus some noted mithril ores, addy arrows and some low to medium coins drops. Do it that way, and you WILL need some food to recover from hits when dodging out for a drop, though I'd leave the less attractive drops until they go non-aggressive. Crumbles also work well in a curse/kill safespot mage situation, if you use an earth staff, as it provides earth runes for both spells, while hitting with a cheap curse helps to get maximum effect from the crumbles. -
Starting over 100% fresh, need some help and advice.
Doomster replied to ThreeLeggedLion's topic in Help and Advice
If starting over, what are you making - a skill pure, a mage pure, a mystic mage pure, a range pure, a dragonhide pure ranger, a melee pure, a melee (whatever metal) pure. Tutorial island is the start, and unless a skill pure, I'd suggest making sure you get your max combat stats out of it - 3 strength in the rat cage (and 3 defence if not going 1-def pure), 3 ranged and 3 magic from dropping and collecting 5 sets of runes before maging the chickens. Then do 8 attack on the dummies before doing any other attack. If you want to do quests, then you need one eye on quest level skill requirements, and equally, on quest skill rewards - more significant when taken as early as possible, as it may get you past several levels of unprofitable, low-xp junk. -
I don't think it does slow you down, even though you appear to pause to raise the shield. However, if your mining is quite slow, then they can do considerable HP damage. At that mine, I'd suggest using ALL of your best melee armour, with a defence ammy if you really don't want to fight them, or a power or strength if you do. Use a skeleton to block out potential pkers (especially mage) and run safe if you find anyone who can attack. Anti-mage tactic also favours being quite deep within the area, so the skeletons will harass them before they can get a shot at you. This may be an area where you can get away with using Kebabs. Tactics at the deeper hobgoblin mine vary, I like to go 3/4 item plus junk, and maybe use more dragonhide.

For drivers, the latest (current) supporting driver seems to be http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_91.36.html I would NOT use Windowsupdate for graphics drivers, as the ones from there are often lower in capability, an a lot older than the best from the makers site. Equally, the chip-maker site is usually far more up to date than most OEMs.

Another example is the Dwatven mine scorpions, if they attack someone who does not (auto)retaliate, you can attack them. Brings another point, if you range or mage a monster in the wilderness and it's not hitting you, does that stop anyone attacking you?

There is no such thing as "unlimited"... http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/05/08 ... hrottling/ 40GB per month is pretty generous, actually. A heavy "general internet" user could probably hit 3GB, downloading and video streaming is what really stokes it up. Audio is a lot lighter, but streaming 256k quality for 8 hours a day, every day would eat 3/4 of the quota - if you do like internet music stations on as a background, then don't use the super-quality stream (you'd often have to pay extra for that anyway).

Using the craft guild, that would be 103 runs of 20 clay, using 8 water containers filled 2-3 times for each. You could also do them as runs of 24/4 and 6 refillls, or 18/9 and two fills per run. The advantage - no competition for materials, the disadvantage, lots of dropping. I've worked a few levels on bowls there (F2P) and it's tedious. At 40xp per lid, instead of 52.5 for a silver tiara, there's probably not a lot in it, as silver is rarely 1-hit and respawns slowly. Any better alternatives tend to have similar issues with speed of supply, though maybe a few studded armours would break the monotony and give a little payback if you source all the materials yourself. I suppose you could mine and cut gems at Shilo, lower xp but provides useful materials.

Just looked at the Wilderness map, the chaos spawns / moss giants are just outside the multicombat zone, so monster protection can be used when you see a suspicious white dot (engage a moss giant in combat, so the player cannot attack, while turning the view so you can assess the combat type). Compared to wilderness mining, at least you can carry a pile of good food, without impairing the amount you can collect. Another wilderness option, doing chaos dwarves for muddy keys (and they also drop runes). One thing worth a try though, keep a watch on the Port sarim rune store, report the level 3 rune buying autos, and stand to attention if they get a "take away" random. There is one highwayman that can be lured there, the one that tends to walk a lot in the are south of the road, and if the auto loses (or has not yet got) non-aggressive time on the highwaymen, you could rake in a lot of runes or cash if the highwayman kills the bot. Keep harassing them, one day you'll get one, and the reward can be big, plus the botmaster loses a chunk of resources.
