  1. Using STR pots favours high strength, as it is a percentage increase. If you change defence levels at all, then you would aim for 20 (Mithril) - intermediate levels are largely wasted. You could train ranged to 40 and add green dragonhide vambraces (a bit more defence). I reckon the stats of black are pretty good for its level. The only good thing about switching to mithril, is if you can hook up with a smith for a number of spare sets, since the availability of the unsmithable black is lower, with no surpluses.
  2. There is a idiotic thing in the way XP works for smithing... Higher metal = lower reward ... less XP per total ores, less XP per coal. Of course, if you superheat in the mine, then higher metals bring back a greater amount of XP per run.
  3. If the calcs are correct, I think 1 HP is 1/4 of a combat level. While the hit/level of a 10 HP mage would be a thing to behold, they would get creamed if the target ever got any retaliation in, or if hit first. No hitpoint mage training is better for "secondary" mage, if you want mage levels but get hitpoints from other combat.
  4. NO! The only switch was at the introduction, where members and F2P with member items (ex-members) had their essence converted.
  5. One of my favourite F2P routes... (runecraft + mining) Run from Falador to air altar, runecraft airs, Walk/run on to Rimmington mine, mine a load of iron, walk back to Falador. Especially useful at low combat levels, if the scorpions give you a hard time in the dwarven mine. Then either smelt at Falador, or bank all but 3 items, pick a fight with a guard and turn retaliation off (trip to lumbridge), then take the gate to Al-K and smelt there, then tele or walk to Varrock (if walking, use the chasm mine on the way), then smith the bars and mine some more ess, return to Falador and repeat. A few other general tips: 1. Check items before starting a trip, nothing more infuriating than wasting run energy and then having to go back for a missing item. 2. More repetition usually means greater efficiency - if a particular run works well for you, then start by getting enough resouces to stick at it for a while.
  6. I hope you don't use the same pass with them all, or it's hack once, hack 'em all!
  7. Once, on going to members (or perhaps, once only while a member, once you have settled on a specialty, to have a suitably heroic name in castlewars, barrows, fight cave or whatever).
  8. That is 20 minutes of game time, of course, so just avoid getting killed, paying particular attention to any dangerous randoms that you might get. Do NOT just shuffle to avoid logging out, as that often seems to get you an evil chicken
  9. Find someone (member) to trade it to, don't waste it on making basic runes. If you want to do F2P runecrafting, you ought to be able to double (or better) the amount of ess by selling the pure and buying ordinary
  10. I've had a few ideas to finish it... maybe later
  11. 18.5k def XP, so the only "pures" it is actually useful with are the 40 defence (Rune or dragonhide), start with 33 defence and addy, so that your defence will not exceed 40, or a quick conversion from an Iron Pure to Addy. It would seem that by starting the quest, going to the island and then NOT entering Elvarg's cage, but going straight to the push wall, you may be able to open up Crandor Island for training.
  12. Price check it in general store, add 50% Most special items are not worth trading (including alching) other than to players, as their store and alch value is the same as ordinary versions.
  13. Defence, consider using: 1. Soft leather body + Dragonhide accessories 10. Hard leather body + D-hide, it's possible the ranged attack bonus will compensate for the extra (defence) combat level. Ranged, just keep practicing, upgrade bow and armour as soon as you have the level to. You may want magic (weaken/curse training) up to the point where you can teleport. In members, of course, you could progress fletching, for bronze training arrows, knives, darts etc. If you are afraid of getting caught drop-trading or middleman transferring, then you also need a supporting skill. For a member ranger, fletching would be an obvious supporting skill. In F2P, since you can't make your own weapon and ammunition (the ranger is hard done by compared to the warrior and mage), you need trade goods such as food (fishing/cooking), ores (mining), or smithed/crafted items.
  14. Lesser Demons in the area too, so as well as telegrab (2 piles of 3 and 4), you also need enough defence to stand up to the Lessers. The north side might be clear. Another thing, it is too far north to be able to teleport, so your law runes will not save you.
  15. It was a normal day in the great city of Varrock, punctuated only by the scream of an occasional troublemaker being put to the sword by King Roald's guards, a welcome relief from the boredom of guard duty. Traders in the city centre shouting their wares, and the thwack of apprentice warriors practicing on dummies that can't hit back. The hubbub was broken by a gasping madman running from the lawless lands to the north, "Fish" he cried, "there are great fish in the waters to the north". An interested crowd gathered to ask more about this, but the poor soul gasped his last. "Poisoned, a dagger I'd say", was the opinion of apothecary, who had heard the commotion and wandered over to investigate. He continued, "not very powerful though, surely if the fishing was good, it should have got him to safety". Thinking it was just another fisherman's tale, a member of the crowd peeped into the dead fisherman's pack, and out spilled fishing gear, tuna, lobster and swordfish, all raw. The crowd gasped, and then realized, the poor fool had forgotten to take anything to cook with. Father Lawrence officiated at the fisherman's funeral, as lavish an event as could be paid for from the sale of the poor soul's supplies, The congregation slept as usual, waking to murmur the occasional "Amen" at something close to the right moment. The attention of the onlookers then turned to the man's discovery, though the secret of its location had died with him. "Who will investigate", as the invitation nobody really wanted wafted around the crowd. The law abiding citizens of Varrock did not want to venture to the lawless and dangerous lands, and the King could not spare any guards. Attention turned to some visiting adventurers, surely this band of bold monster slayers would have one brave enough to go? "Pah!" spat the the first, an accomplished warrior in armour of finest Rune, "I shall not dirty my armour for the ramblings of a fool". "Coward!", shouted an onlooker, while the warrior adjusted his sword and tried to be inconspicuous before slinking away. A trainee mage surveyed his meagre supply of runes, shook his head, and wandered away to speak to Aubury about his prices. The gaze of the onlookers then fell on a trainee warrior, training for deeds of daring in those dangerous lands. "Your first mission?" they suggested, "probably my last!" was the reply. "Besides, I can't fish", he said as he wandered away to tackle some easy kills. Only one was left, a fairly nondescript adventurer in practical steel armour with a well worn adamant battle axe, fortunately also an accomplished fisherman himself. "I'll do it!" he said, striding forward. "You?" they queried, keeping a nervous eye on the axe which had some fresh blood on it. "Yes, just give me a moment to prepare", and prepare he did!. He chose his equipment with care, knowing that if he kept the faith with Saradomin, both he and a few of his items may be spared, should the adventure not go his way. As a competent steel smith, he took a bar and hammer to forge a steel axe, to replace the prized mithril axe that he carried in safer areas. He also made sure that he carried a tinderbox and some wood as well, in case there were no trees to be cut. With fishing gear already packed, he began to walk from the bank, then paused, considered the cost of replacing his amulet, and then banked it safely, filling the rest of his pack with lobsters. He chuckled to himself, "If I'm going down, I'm going down fighting". Instead of leaving the city by the main exit to the north, where there is often a rowdy gathering who might pick a fight, he slipped quietly out of the eastern exit, meeting nobody except an occasional woodcutter on the way north. He gulped, on reaching the warning signs, for this was truly an evil place. Other rumours, along with the presence of water, suggested that the easternmost edge of this foul land was the place to look, so he kept east, and then cursed his poor navigation for ending up in a cul-de-sac, along with relief that he was not being chased by anything or anyone when it happened. Onward, onward, without seeing another soul, human or otherwise. "It's a myth", he thought, beginning to tire of the journey, but pressing on anyway. Finally, the sparkling water came into sight, and he pulled out his harpoon, plunged it into the water, and pulled out a fine tuna. Cooking the tuna on a fire, and glancing nervously for anyone approaching, he looked for anything which would supply more firewood, and happened upon a dead tree. His steel axe bit deeply into the tree, not as fast as the mithril one he had left safely behind, but fast enough. It was still quiet, too quiet. Glancing all around the mostly barren landscape, buoyed by the ready availability of food, he looked for something to attack, wandering even further north. Then he saw it, a Lesser Demon, truly a gross mismatch compared to his meagre weapon and armour. No matter, he charged it, swinging the battle axe which bounced off its scaly hide. A pitched battle ensued, with the weak warrior eating so fast he was nearly sick. The demon was half dead, but at the cost of almost his entire pack of lobsters. Admitting he was crazy to attempt it, he broke and ran, glad that his foe could not strike from a distance. Nervously heading back to the fishing spot, and relieved to find that nobody better equipped had taken it over, he set about replacing the wasted food. While cooking the last few, a hapless and ill equipped adventurer wandered by. Still smarting from his earlier retreat, our hero takes it out on the poor victim by crashing his axe upon him without provocation, then slaughters the poor soul by matching him run for run. Picking over the scant remains, it's hard to figure why someone so ill-equipped would venture this far. Compared to the value of his lobster and swordfish, even the single chaos rune is barely worth taking, and hardly worth breaking the faith with Saradomin for. Being marked for his evil act makes the warrior extremely nervous, contemplating the thought of either going back where others may mark him as a target, or hanging around in quiet areas, perhaps picking on something a bit easier than the Lesser Demon, until Saradomin forgives his transgression. Unless he loses control of the fishing spot to a more powerful warrior or mage, at least food will not be a problem. News has already been filtering back, so our brave but rather inadequate warrior may soon have company.
  16. In members, you could also make steel in the blast furnace, using 1 coal per iron instead of 2.
  17. Only the body needs defence (and quest for the green body), legs (studded or green) and vambs (green) only need ranged level.
  18. For a new pure, I favour: Stage 0 :- Str to 3 in the Tutorial rat cage Atk to 8 on the Varrock dummies Also find the right time to get the attack XP bomus on Vampire slayer. As for defence, with 1 defence (full iron), then at higher combat levels, I'd go for 20 ranged (Studded legs), or 40 ranged (Dragonhide legs and vambs) - the advantage of the semi-ranger kit at this level, is that the legs (even the studded) are better than iron. I also have a steel guy, considerably more robust than an ironclad - unles facing mage opponents, when leathers are much better, Steel is probably a combat level well spent - not sure how full steel compares with Iron + dragonhide though.
  19. Post the EXACT error codes in the tech and computers section, and we may be able to find an answer. Looking the codes up on google often gives a clue, though often just that "there's a lot of it about". Most bluescreens / stop errors are caused by one of a few things: 1. Corrupted/Incompatible drivers or files, or possibly a virus 2. Faulty hardware, often weak RAM or PSU. Can also be the hard disk dying, so get hold of the diagnostic program from the maker's site, or any other program which can report the SMART status. Do updates, run memory tests etc. If all else fails, then you are down to re-install or replace - it's often quicker to re-install Windows than to clean it up.
  20. OMG ARE YOU SERIOUS. HOOOOLY CRAP. Okay, maybe I will like this update then XD Yes! Spots wander from level 35 to 38 wildy, in and around the culvert, with a dead tree or 2 not too far away. The area is east of the multicombat, and is non-multi. One problem, the waterhole effect... predators waiting for those who come to feed!
  21. Be flexible (unless you are a fletching member). If the lower arrows are stock depleted, Steel may be cheaper than Iron. Higher arrows are supposed to do sligtly more damage (though the max is only about 1 difference per level of arrow at most) and have a better re-use rate. Bronze arrows go down rather quickly, the losses of them on each kill are significant.
  22. Comparing 50A/50S with 40A/60S (and for a laugh, 30A/70S) The 50/50 is the lowest total XP, so may be slightly lower in hitpoints (or could go to maybe 51/51 for equal combat level). Compared to higher strength, the 50/50 will hit slightly more often, but with a lower maximum. Strength potions will be less effective. The 40/60 is the standard strength pure, and would make good use of a strength potion. Above this level, it's probably worth tracking attack 1:1 or 1:2 with strength. A 30/70 would need a lot of XP in strength, but would still hit lower due to the lower weapon bonus of Adamant instead of Rune. The main argument against raising attack beyond 40 in F2P, is that there are no further weapon bonuses, however, there are no bonuses at any level of strength, as the strength bonus is also derived from the wielded weapon. The main point is that strength levels always have the potential to increase damage, while increased attack only helps if you are missing rather too much - Rune weapon against rune armour is one case where balanced attack and strength will probably do better.
  23. Two sides to it... "Fly fishing is faster", but then every level you do beyond 40 on fly fishing, is lobbies you don't get... If you want it, and you can fish it, then do - better to get an item you want slowly, than an item you don't want, quickly (assuming you do take them back and bank). If you just do levels and drop (or cook/drop) them, then DO use fly fishing to level up.
  24. Ordinary essence will make the four elements, mind and body - the same 6 runes that can be crafted in F2P. It's unknown yet if it also supports the making of combination runes. On reflection, the commodity that it really doesn't matter if people macro, is essence, since it is not competetive, whereas most other things put the autoers in direct competition with legitimate players.
  25. The longbow is a sniper's weapon, used from cover against a target only just in range, or against a fleeing target. Also useful for "collecting" a target. Against anything that either cannot hit you, or is already well within range, the shortbow is faster - forget the "longrange" style unless you really want to train defence.
