  1. Fact 1, lets call it "group effect"... Is it that randoms are more likely among a packed group, or is it something like the "birthday paradox" - just as the chance that two people share a birthday in a group of a certain size is far higher than most people would predict, the chance that somebody in the group gets a random increases through sheer weight of numbers. Not mentioned , but one I normally believe in... Cluster effect - maybe it's just that you take note when it happens, but it seems that the random you see somene else get tends to be "visiting" the area for while - Genies tend to go away for ages, and then it's not uncommon to see two on the same screen, and NOT in a packed group situation. A definite fact, I would say, is that the random allocation is always biased in favour of new events.
  2. If you like that one, how about.. http://www.win.tue.nl/sequoiaview/ There are a couple of others too, can't find them at the moment
  3. http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Game_Requirements As noted there, it also seems to work ok with the current beta release, though with no noticable advantages.
  4. I attempted to use DM2 - with dismal results. System slowed to a crawl with 100% CPU load, later found that this seems to be a rather common bug with DM2 (shame, I rather fancied some transparency), so I guess that leaves deskpins to try.
  5. I guess the rules that most people take issue with are: 6: Account sharing/trading - the only real plus is that it is something of a deterrent to account stealing, though a quitting player would often prefer to pass on a good account to a friend than let all that training go to waste. 8. Multi logging / Item transfer - eg. drop trading. If you are a high level smith, you can theoretically armour everyone else in your clan, but not your own lower level . 11. Most forums also ban "website advertising", but not to the point that you cannot even mention one. 12. Real world trading - while the ban may be a detterent to item theft or "sweat shop" creation/collection of items/gp, it also cuts of a possible source of extra paying members ... those who would fund membership by selling items. 13. Personal details - while nobody in their right mind should ever give identifiable information , as the axe-man in Runescape might not be averse to using one for similar purposes in real life, many players want to use internet chat beyond the limited and clumsy implementation in the game.
  6. Not sure if adjusting the window using other "ontop" software would work... such as http://www.snapfiles.com/get/deskpins.html Or http://dm2.sourceforge.net/ - Not only on-top, but transparency - darn it, gotta install and try it now!
  7. The original graphics appear to be onboard ... rather better than most onboards though... So nothing to take out - it should be disabled (or perhaps usable alongside) when another card is inserted. The graphics slot is normally the topmost slot in a mini-tower - yes, the topmost, black slot is the PCI express X16, below that are two standard PCI and at the bottom is a PCI express X1. PS. Looks like the card requires a PCI-E power connector ... the 6 pin receptacle at the end of the board - if your PSU has one, connect it, otherwise you need a molex to PCI-E power cable (plug two spare drive power cables into an adapter cable). It is also possible that the standard system PSU may not be adequate to support the extra demand.
  8. Got my first 2 or 3 like lightning (ranging champions guild chickens). Next 1 took longer (at the wizard circle). Now all I seem to get are Zombies and Shades trying to kill me, plus a few of the non-specific randoms like MoM (box). I'd like some of your Leo luck
  9. The RS music that you unlock is for: 1. Areas you have visited 2. Runescape opening music (various dates) 3. Random and special events - there is a tune for the cristmas event workshop. A particular example is "Frogland", only unlocked if you FAIL the frog random even and are transported to frogland. I like to keep the music on (and set to auto) when on the move, as it serves as a navigation reminder.
  10. crucial.com - use their memory selector, and they guarantee compatibility. Rare to find any system that their selector doesn't cover.
  11. I've mentioned this before, but here goes again.... http://java.sun.com/products/java-media ... banks.html The default MIDI soundbank in Java is the "minimal" (0.35 MB) - not very big for a wavetable soundbank. The better ones are 1 MB and 4 MB in size - and the 4 MB should be as good as most soundcard wavetables. So if you want to hear the runescape music at higher quality, upgrade the soundbank.
  12. Me too! Favourite woodcutting/firemaking gear... Full armour, prayer charged, a couple of lines of food and a strength potion, plus my trusty rune long, as well as my rune axe. When the tree spirit appears, it gets the chop! - I like nats and axes, I got my rune axe from a tree spirit, so I'm going for a spare!
  13. If you still can't get the shield... 1. Make sure you ask Oziach about it, maybe the Duke only gives it to you once you've been told he does (Runescape has a tendency to be rather too linear like that). 2. If it's still no, then get all the map pieces, combine then talk to ned. Another thing, check your bank thoroughly, if you picked one up, and have it lurking there, then the Duke will not give you another.
  14. F2P Mage: As well as the "active" parts (Blue hat, top, ammy and staff), I'm never without gloves, boots, cape and leather chaps - all for a small physical defence and no penalty - though if the mage (t) kit is now tradable to F2P, proper mage bottom may be worth having, though the price may be high - they need to balance it by making the wizards drop ordinary mage bottoms as well as tops or hats. Oops, not forgetting the anti dragonfire shield, or a wooden shield if you can't get a dragonfire.
  15. Do it NOW if you want it - seems to be over 50% of bone burying randoms, but you can still get shades and zombies. New events are always easier to get, and you can bet this will cool down with the next update. I got 3 of them, plus a shade and a zombie, from burying normal (chicken massacre) bones. Of course, this event is NOT open to anyone that does not want to train prayer level. If the headstone symbol is shown spinning edge on to you, just close the view and try again... I've already listed the match-ups in the guide updates.
  16. So this is strictly a bone burying event? - no other appearances? I suppose it's nice to have a bone burying event that doesn't try to kill you. More statless gear for hard-pressed (especially F2P) bank space - even members would be hard pressed to find space for all the "decoratives", if they also practice skills such as herblore which tend to need a lot of space. Somewher to store statless clothing (not part of the bank space), would be welcome... If members ever get player owned houses and woodwork, I suppose they can have wardrobes
  17. If he's stuck with levels worth keeping (if not the just dump the account) and no valuable items, the other way out is to turn off auto-retaliate, stay logged in as much as possible, and wait for a deadly random. Shuffling from place to place while trying to avoid a logout (did that while looking something up) seems to provoke the evil chicken.
  18. Well, Andrew / JaGex reacted to the "Biased banning" Tipit Times article... Not with any real apology for the mistakes and over zealous (probably automated) banning, and the low chance of getting anything that doesn't look like an auto-reply, but with threats against the author. I know, you only ever see the worst, the (hopefully) few who are wrongly banned, but the difficulty seems to be in getting any explaination, for the summary judgement agianst those they claim are mules, drop traders, multi-logons, autoers, real world traders etc. There is now open suspicion that JaGex's "detection methods" do not properly allow for those who are behind a router, and are likely to unjustly punish as real world traders, those who give/recieve large gifts or lend items for safe keeping.
  19. Depends what depth it goes into, but some players would want to know exactly what an item will do for them, while others would rather work it out by trial and error. What is the best weapon, is an old question, for instance, and one which should not have a single answer - apart from "the best metal you can wield"
  20. The stock answer is always that players who can afford rares like them, and those that can't, don't. The christmas event was great for anyone that wanted to wear a fancy hat. Were Jagex right to make the holiday items untradable though? - more tradable "rares" may have quelled the meteoric price rises of earlier items. Out of all the recent items, the one I wish I had been playing in time for, is the rubber chicken - the ability to deliver a harmless "whack" anywhere is priceless.
  21. I took a disposable Mithril Kite (left my Rune one at the bank) to deal with the other monsters, and then entered the dragon cage without switching to my dragonfire - fortunately, it went for the other player that went in at the same time, giving time to correct it before getting hit.
  22. Especially if they have not spotted "offensive" names within a reasonable time, then it would be better if the player was offered a name change. The other thing, I seem to be "looking over my shoulder" a lot, such as finding a surplus of steel plates (no, I DIDN'T put them there) with my main, and quickly switching to my steel guy to go and stock up on them (my main, of course, CAN make them). Thinking ... "I hope this doesn't look suspicious". It would be better in Jagex concentrated on coding, as while they are "java experts", that seems to be about the limit of their experience
  23. The Christmas event is a poor comparison, since there was no reason to do it more than once. Only way I can see to stop higher level players monopolizing an "easy boss monster", is to have it call in reinforcements against higher levels - a bit like the Al-Kharid guards. So F2P's can ignore Wyson going on about moles? - no F2P moles, not even little ones?
  24. Chaos Runes are BOLT, not BLAST, unless you have the Family Crest gauntlets as Magic gauntlets to raise the power of bolt spells (might be worth a try, as they are another "replace free if you die" item)
  25. I remember seeing it as a bank space tip... Set up the cannon (It MUST be set up), then log out (or get killed), and the cannon is given back to you by the dwarf. So it sounds like, whatever happens, the best plan is to abandon your cannon, rather than hanging around to collect and carry the extra weight.
