Why do people hate rares so much?

Because they can't get them

Indeed

:P

example:

when they are 1mil, they'll try to get 1mil...

when they have 1mil, the rare item would be already 2mil (if it takes about 1month to get 1mil for some peeps)

and so on...

phats are rising near 100k a day :(

The stock answer is always that players who can afford rares like them, and those that can't, don't.

The christmas event was great for anyone that wanted to wear a fancy hat.

Were Jagex right to make the holiday items untradable though? - more tradable "rares" may have quelled the meteoric price rises of earlier items.

Out of all the recent items, the one I wish I had been playing in time for, is the rubber chicken - the ability to deliver a harmless "whack" anywhere is priceless.

jealousy.

but one good reason is, because there are a few people who had a few rares when they were cheap, and to their luck, ended up making 100m in one day during the big skyrocket nearly a year ago. The start of the modern rare prices.

Yea, what everyone says....If you can afford them you like them, if you can't you don't. Well that is partially right....Most people like them, a few don't, nothing to get worked up over and start everyone over at lvl 3, lol.

I don't really mind, although, when you think about it, someone who's quit with a party hat in his/her bank for 2 years instantly is rewarded 100s of time greater than someone who has worked hard on their account.

In that regard, it's pretty corrupt.

well its same in real life too...like buying something years ago for cheap what raised value much by now...i been buying some music records years ago before they became rare and now they are 10x more than they was then.

i bought my partyhat sets early 2002 for 50-100k per hat but no one knew they was going to be rare one day...

i think we deserve our hats since we supported RS and made it grow when game was young.

i know new players cannot afford to get them but why they should? i really dont mind if hats were untradable since i dont have them for money purpose, they reminds me from older days...same with scythes and ears i remember clearly when and how i got them and im glad they are at least untradable.

i have whole 1mill gp money in RS but im still happy...havent spent even 1gp since early 2003 lol

anyway i dont hate rares but i hate all that scamming and hacking because of rares.

I hates rares, yes i had alot but sold them all. I had 2 santas, 1 green mask,1 blue mask and a purple...

I hate them cuz i think they look cool but for 80m+ for them, and if you die they are worth 1-100 gp, i mean come on, i wouldn't buy another rare in my life because how much they are.

They can't go down because there will not be new ones.

All they can do is get stable.(wich won't happen in the near future I fear)

if stable items are worthmore then nonstable you would keep one of the stable... and the shop price is already below 50 :( a monk robe over powers it...

If you pick 50 mill cash on the floor wouldn't you be happy ?

If your arch enemy pick 50 mill cash on the floor, wouldn't you start cursing ?

Now if your 50 mill cash got scam or hacked, wouldn't you also start cursing ?

It is all the same with rares

the reason some people who hate rares is because the actual players who work for their money who fish mine ect. have their supplys value lowered. if there were no rares then the encomony would be run around resource goods and the prices of what these hard working players obtain would be worth more. rares just keeps people in the slums lol

It's not jealousy, not on my part at least. It's more of a lack of understanding as to why they're so overpriced. It's not like they're worth anything to the game; they give no stat bonuses, they have no special features, they just sit on your head (or in your bank) and look ridiculous.

I mean, heck, the latest batch of holiday/random event items look a thousand times better, are free and sometimes even have unique features like the chicken whacking. My current favorite costume is a Prince Suit with the blue hat from Christmas, the matching scarf and a pair of purple gloves. And, other than the gloves, it was all free; I didn't have to pay out my nose to get any of it - heck, the gloves themselves only put me back like 10gp or so.

That's the reason I hate the rares. It doesn't make any sense to "invest" in some worthless, ugly trinket when you can invest the same millions in skills; skills will always make money for you, there's no such guarantee with rares. At any moment, a number of things could happen to the "rare market" that would reduce your multi-million gp investment into a folly: Jagex could finally get tired of hearing about it and make them untradeable, the rares market bubble could finally pop and the prices could plummet, some clever kid with a homemade program could do another dupe incident and crash the market, or something else I haven't even thought of yet.

I'll be honest, though, if I ever found a rare in the Wildy, I'd rejoice. Why? Because, then I could go and sell it to some froob on World 1 and be able to level up several of my skills almost overnight.
