  1. Yeah, it's dragon stone. The 20% of max health is instead of the bolt damage, which makes it useless against players. As previous poster said, it's purple, thus dragon stone, not red.
  2. Yep, exact same range :) I can confirm it, I had one.
  3. Hello everyone, I've owned a Dark Bow for two days now, and I felt like doing tests to see how it fared as a weapon :) Here are the results I got Few notes before we start : I'm not biased in any ways in this. I have a pretty low slayer level, so I have no interest in increasing prices, but I already have one, so I don't really why I'd try to lower the price either :P I took information mostly from my own testing, but I took bits here and there from forums, the official runescape site, and other player's experiences. Speed : Dark Bows are rather slow weapons, but everytime they shoot, two arrows are fired. While they may appear exceedingly slow, they actually shoot 4 times while a Magic Short shoots 5 times. In other words, it's just a bit slower than a MSB. Accuracy : A Dark Bow has +95 range attack bonus, compared to +59 for Magic Shorts, +84 for Karil's Crossbow, and +100 for a full Crystal Bow, while at its lowest charges, the Crystal Bow is just a bit less accurate than a Magic Short. A Dark Bow does not degrade. Range : A Dark Bow has the range of a long bow, or a Crystal Bow, both having the same range. Damage : A Dark Bow has damage comparable to any other bow with its given arrows. However it's the only bow able to use Dragon arrows. Furthermore, it's special increases the maximum possible damage of regular arrows by 30%, and Dragon arrows by 50%. As the Dark Bow also shoots two arrows on its special, it's two arrows with 30 or 50% percent damage increase, which allows for a recorded maximum hit of 39 x 2 with the special and Dragon arrows. In other words, so far the max hit seen is 78. Also, the special makes it so that your two arrows will certainly hit, no matter the armor. The special is a 55% percent drain, just like a magic short special. Training : A Dark Bow is more accurate, but slower than a Magic Short, so how will it fare in training? Well, I did a little test, with steel arrows, 99 range (potted sometimes, sometimes not, but since I always alternated between MSB and Dark Bow, the results are not imbalanced), by writing how long it took me to kill a Black Dragon with both bows, without using the special, from the first hit to the last. Here are the results. D bow 1 :34 2 :00 2 :14 2 :05 2 :09 1 :35 2 :15 MSB 1 :20 2 :00 2 :10 2 :22 2 :14 1 :45 1 :56 If you have any questions, feel free to ask, and I'll add it to the analysis. Thanks, and I hope my little study helped you learn more about the bow.
  4. Prime is a pushover in range def, so probably not. KBD and KQ, on the other hand... I could also see myself barrowing with it, or going after the daggy kings not supposed to be ranged.
  5. You forgot to take into account the accuracy factor... I kill black dragons, and the greatly increased accurary is a blessing for me.
  6. Karil is a joke, the set has the non-mage def of paper, and since any mage worth its salt brings a dds too, prepare to get some really nasty specs on you. Barrage hits a lot of on dhide, btw. Oh, and to the dude who talked about 50s with dstone bolts... Have you ever used them? I did, and let me tell you they are complete garbage. The spec barely ever hits, and at 110 range with full range gear and praying I can't seem to be able to hit past 40... Whoops, anyone with high strenght hits that without a spec using a decent weapon. Considering the spec hits once per fight, the chances to actually KO someone are slim to none, and it's so slow that you'd do more damage with a MSB with addy arrows. Yes, addy arrows, it's that rubish.
  7. You know since when a good range update has been overdue? Mage has had more than its share of updates if you ask me. Us rangers were stuck with a msb for you know how long? The start of RS2, and it got nerfed pretty badly.
  8. Maybe third age melee, but certainly not ranger. Beside, I thought that the melee set had a feathered top... Anyway. And yes, Zamorak wasn't a god at the beginning, so he certainly didn't help in creating runescape. Guthix is the first original god, and the creator of the world.
  9. Wildy isn't the place to make friends or to make people happy. Someone slow you down? Kill. That's how I see wildy :)
  10. The max I've seen, and i use cbow all the time, is 28 with cbow on rapid, potted, praying and 99 range. Maybe more with accurate mode, but I rarely use it.
  11. The armour salesman who sells the ranging cape holds his longbow with one hand and a shield with the other... lol :P No idea how he shoots, though :P
  12. Spooky O.o Maybe it's because the KQ started spinning, like most monsters do when someone is under them... hmm :P
  13. The top is +10 mage def :P The chaps are +2, the vambs are +1, but people will use barrow gloves instead I'm sure.
  14. Always was that way : Same stats as black d hide, with better mage def and a killer coif :) I'm really happy that they did that, since I hated Karil for its low melee def, considering nearly everything in RS melees, including players =/
  15. It's because Jagex are slightly stuck with balance purpose. I'm a level 99 ranger, and at cwar I range pot to 112 and range pray from time to time. I use a crystal bow, and trust me, when I got defend on my tower, when I focus fire on someone below level 60, they rarely make it in one piece. I'm sure it's rather frustrating to have your neat character being torn to pieces by one of those "scary high levels", now imagine if I had a level 90 bow...
  16. Yep, I think you're giving woodcut too much credit :P The combat stats are used a lot, thus they receive a lot of updates. I'm sure that if 60% of RS' population was woodcutters, they'd update WC more :P
  17. The riders can hit 22 as far as I know, maybe more =/
  18. You're not supposed to die when it's a noob quest :P I don't see why people say it's for noobs when level 80+ keep dying lol...
  19. Word to the wise : bring a tinderbox, the mages can extinguish bullseye lanterns.
  20. It makes them, just at a slower rate. I think the best uses for this is with large foes (more than one space) so you can safespot, and still manage to collect the arrows. I wonder, do they pick up all ranged weapons/ ammo? So far, I know this: All metals are picked up. Arrows: Yes Normal Bolts: Yes Gem tipped bolts: Probably Enchanted bolts: Probably 'Brutal' arrows: Yes Bolt racks: They do not appear on the ground, so no. Javelins: ? Throwing rings: ? Throwaxes: ? Attractors create all raw iron objects, iron arrows, iron knives, iron bolts, clockwork mice. Accumulators likewise, but with steel. Some question marks to fill, any answers? Arrows: Yes Normal Bolts: Yes Gem tipped bolts: Probably Yes it does Enchanted bolts: Probably Yes it does 'Brutal' arrows: Yes Bolt racks: They do not appear on the ground, so no. Exactly Javelins: ? Throwing rings: ? Throwaxes: ? Attractors create all raw iron objects, iron arrows, iron knives, iron bolts, clockwork mice. Accumulators likewise, but with steel.
  21. I sell you well shouting "Cabbages rule the world" over and over on world 18 edgy :D Or maybe "Rangers are the winners"... Hmmm :P So I'll bid a cabbage and 25 gp
  22. I heard it hits from 1 square away, like a halberd, so while it's not exactly a long range, it has a bit of range (like hitting on someone frozen without getting hit back :P). Is that right?
  23. Sorry to burst your bubble, but as the guy above me said, they're exactly the same weapon, just one from a top view, and the other from a front view. They have the same amount of [bleep]es, the same cubish center, the same handle, the same [bleep]e length... and the same color. Unless Jagex got very lazy with their new weapons :P Seriously, use your eyes guys, not your crave for new cool weapons ;)
  24. No, it increases damage for ranging, I hit 28s now with cbow potted :P
