Haha, cool. Nice that they threw him over, but he handled everything really cool. Must admitt that. :P

Idlewild I had expected a little bit more from this. Especially the looks were very good. The sets, lighting, clothing. Real eye-candy that supported eachother in an excellent way. It had that really cool thirties gangster atmosphere. Too bad that the movie follows the latetst trends on montage, giving it this videoclip feel. Which is extra frustrating because you know that you're missing out on the looks. Which is what this movie is about. I also expected some more swing to it. Instead of tese tame beats, Big Boi's murmering and for dancing only some women throwing their chocolate-brown legs high up in the sky. Too bad. Elephant I've seen this movie a couple of years ago. At that time I had less knowledge than that I've got now. At that time I never heard of Bela Tarr, now I have. And now I see that his influence on Elephant cannot be denied. The way that the events are shown is exactly the same as in Tarr's masterpiece SÃÆÃâÃâátÃÆÃâÃâántangÃÆÃâÃâó. Also the long trackingshots, the constant noises in the background are directly taken from Tarr's movie. But that's not a problem. It's very good actually. It all adds up giving you this nervous feeling. You know something is happening, but you don't know what it is. And then you suddendly hear that gun fireing. And from that moment on your hooked to the screen and you get in conflict with yourself. Because on one side you feel disgusted for what is happening on the screen. The violence is so plain and ugly (not at all beautifull like what you see in let's say a James Bond movie), and the children seem to be emotionally numb. On other hand you feel sorry for the kids, and you kind of understand them. After all they were only teenagers that seem to be forced into their situation. And in this way the movie leaves you behind with horrible, helpless feeling. Seen three movies more, but I've got to go working. I'll add them in later. The third movie. It was a bit longer than usual, I think I can call the longest movie I've seen so far. It's called SÃÆÃâÃâátÃÆÃâÃâántangÃÆÃâÃâó. It's seven hours long. And during those seven hours of watching, I didn't watch the clock even once. The movies rythem brings you in a kind of hypnose, and you keep on watching. Even when everything becomes too much, you want to escape for a moment, catch your breath, but you can't. Literally, every shot, every note of music, ever word spoken and every silence there is, it's all brilliant, genious, fantastic. And more of those terms. What else is there to say about this? A unique experience recommended to everyone. If you can handle it of course. Unfortunuatly it's not available on DVD in the US of A, but last year the English DVD Company Artificial Eye gave the movie a fine DVD release again. DVD and movie review Pickup on South Street Right from the opening scene you can see that this is a Fuller movie. No elegant cutting, but harsh and direct cuts to really show the situation on the train. Later you can see other things that Fuller is taking to extremes. The noir-genre is famous for it's playing with darkness, but this movie brings it to an entirely different level. Think of the extreme blackness in the scene where Candy is going trough Skip's stuff, not one or two characters that 'failed' in life but three. Other that Fuller's style there's still a lot to enjoy. Fast paced, great script, great score and fantastic actors. Recommended! Out of the Past Great noir, excellent example of the genre. It has got everything that makes the genre so appealing. And more. Tourneur's toch is easy to recognize. Fantastic role by Mitchum as well. A true classic. Must see.

Yea, you're right. I've played it a few times more. And it isn't very good.

Pff, what a sad little guy you are (ray, not you Nadril :P). It's people like Ray that make me wonder what I'm doing here.

Fanfare This is the first movie that I've seen from my Bert Haanstra box. This is a normal feature length movie. And as I expected I really loved this movie, especially the beginning nearly brought me to tears. It's not really the plot that's so special, things like that were made before, and after Fanfare, but the way that it is shot, the people, how the actors play their role, the music used in the movie. It's all part of a country that doesn't exist anymore, where I loved to have been. That's the reason why I found it so special. I could recommend it for other Dutchies, and maybe the adventurous foreigner. But they'll probably find it 'dated' or something. The Lady Vanishes I got it in last thursday, wanted to watch it, but I couldn't. So I had to wait 'till sundat evening. And it was very good. Hitchcock at his best once again. And quiete unique to be honest. Never did he do such a blend of thriller, comedy and romance. And never has it been so succesfull. Lady Vanishes has often been copied, but never equaled. Must-see. There are some nice inside jokes about the start of Hitch' career for the fan as well. Over Glas Gesproken Maybe some of you have heard of Bert Haanstra before (although I doubt it) and if you have you must have heard about this Oscar winning short-documentary Glas, well that movie is extracted from this one. It is a promotional/educative video for one of the great glass production companies from Leerdam. This movie is of course more serious as [/i]Glas[/i] there are no jokes with the machines breaking down, and instead Jazz music there is a voice over for educational purposes. Although I'm not very interested in the subject the movie was visually very interesting, which resulted in me gazing at the screen wtihout blinking an eye for nearly 30 minutes. You can see the Oscar-winning short documentary Glass here. <-- click it! Ten minutes, but it's worth it. :)

Interpol was amazing last week. Tonight I'm going to see Spinvis with my parents.

I've got a 40 hour job, but I still live with my parents (I'm only 21 though, so nothing to be ashambed off :P). Next year I'm going to cut down a bit, and save up to move out sometime. :) Would be a good idea, Rick. :P But most of the stuff we get in doesn't really fit in what I like. :o

That doesn't really sound like you don't hate all rap music. If you don't like rap with bad influence, why don't you put that in your title? Along with every other music genre that hasn't got a good influence on people. Since it's not about the music, or the people, but the influence it has got on others. I could say that there are various bands and songs in the hard rock genre that aren't a good influence on youngsters. I could say that the various musicians outside the rap music genre make profit of their groupies. Or would you deny that? Someone with so much knowledge on the subject must have heard the line "Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n Roll".
-
No, I am not going to tell you why. You want to know why? Because you already made your decision. You're not being very open, are you? I could name various reasons why you are wrong. But is that going to change your mind? Are you going to give rap music a chance? No. The reasons have been stated hundreds of times in the Music & Movies forum. The discussion has been done time after time. And nothing comes out of it. Besides, you just asked me if I agreed with your or not. You should choose your words better.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - The Carny What a song! [hide=lyrcs]And no-one saw the carny go And the weeks flew by Until they moved on the show Leaving his caravan behind It was parked out on the south east ridge And as the company crossed the bridge With the first rain filling the bone-dry river bed It shone, just so, upon the edge Dog-boy, atlas, half-man, the geeks, the hired hands There was not one among them that did not cas an eye behind In the hope that the carny would return to his own kind And the carny had a horse, all skin and bone A bow-backed nag, that he named "Sorrow" How it is buried in a shallow grave In the then parched meadow And the dwarves were given the task of digging the ditch And laying the nag's carcass in the ground And boss Bellini, waving his smoking pistol around saying "The nag is dead meat" "We caint afford to carry dead weight" The whole company standing about Not making a sound And turning to dwarves perched on the enclosure gate The boss says "Bury this lump of crow bait" And thean the rain came Everybody running for their wagons Tying all the canvas flaps down The mangy cats crowling in ther cages The bird-girl flapping and squawking around The whole valley reeking of wet beast Wet beast and rotten hay Freak and brute creation Packed up and on their way The three dwarves peering from their wagon's hind Moses says to Noah "We shoulda dugga deepa one" Their grizzled faces like dying moons Still dirty from the digging done And as the company passed from the valley Into a higher ground The rain beat on the ridge and on the meadow And on the mound Until nothing was left, nothing at all Except the body of Sorrow That rose in time To float upon the surface of the eaten soil And a murder of crows did circle round First one, then the others flapping blackly down And the carny's van still sat upon the edge Tilting slowly as the firm ground turned to sludge And the rain it hammered down And no-one saw the carny go I say it's funny how things go [/hide]

This is the fourth time that I'm ordering Satantango. I hope I will finally get it delivered now. And with Satantango and Edvard Munch I passed the magic number of 1000 different movies. And now I am at 1002. Cool. :P

Wake up early Stormy Weather Team up with friends and make a walk over the beach Have a cup of coffee in a nice, old beachhouse Walk some more Have lunch at a belgian sandwich room called 't Smoske. I'd have one Smos with Cheese and Jambon, and one prepar̮̩̉̉ with onion. Then we all go home, get on the couch in baggy jogging pants and watch a movie. Preferably a Billy Wilder or Ernst Lubtisch one. Allthough I'd settle with Howard Hawks as well. After the movie, crack open a nice beer (Tripple Karmeliet would be my choice) and start making dinner. Have dinner with my friends, talk life, laugh etc. At 9 or 10, I'd go home, see my parents and brother, watch some t.v. Then go upstairs, listen to Donald [bleep]en's the Nightfly Close my eyes, and sleep. Oh, what a day. Too bad it never happens. Because the fiends I'd like to do this with don't like 'old' movies. :P

Man, I just played a little bit. Got the suit, and everything went wrong when they wanted to send me away. Now I'm all by myself again. Alex has got a nice behind.
-
Yea, ah well. I already started the download. Since I had to visit friends I left the PC on. Now that I'm back home it's done. Think I'm going to put on some headphones and play. :)

Let them find somebody wanting to mary them first. :P

Yeah you can, or at least my roomate (who is using vista) play's CS 1.6 all the time on it just fine. It's based off the same engine so should be fine. :D Ah, cool. I'll pick it up next week then. They basically give it away. I don't know if I'm doing the instalation the right way. I bought it, and I got two discs with it. Now I installed Steam, and now I'm downloading the games via steam. But I think I also could've got it from the second disc in the orange box and I'm waisting a lot of time now. Or not? :P Man, I feel like a newbie. But I haven't installed a game on my computer since need for speed underground 1.
-
A party would be alright, I wouldn̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâôt invite hundreds of people. But I wouldn̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâôt let it go unnoticed.
-
I don't know if you can play the first Half Life on Vista? Anyway. Thanks for the replies guys, I bought the Orange Box today. I hope I̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâôm going to like it, but a game rated this high can̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâôt be bad. Well, it can. But chances are slim.
-
Al right. I've been interested in this Orange box. But I have never played the Half Life games. Not even part one. Do I need to know part 1 before I am gong to play part 2? And what kind of games are they? Are they very scary or something? Is it a lot of rough action, or not? Could somebody give me a brief description of the game, without giving anything about the story away. I know I could look this all up on wikipedia or something, but it's nicer to hear it from other people you 'know'.

Lady Vanishes comes in today. Wasn't there yesterday for the mail. :( Other orders: (^ birthday gift for somebody else) $27.50 real good deal at Amazon.com And a little book Although the cover suggests that it's manly mainstram cinema, it deffinitly not. So next to a lot of recognition, I'll also find a lot of new titles. :)

1. Not everything written on the forum is directed at you. 2. I know. Maybe if you reflect their attitude on them, they might see how idiotic they're acting. 3. Nevermind 2. Wrong interpertation (SP?). It's just that I'm frustrated that a lot of people on the forum generally complain about gangster-rap, ridicule it. While there's nothing wrong with it. When I'm on here I always get the impression that rap must be like 'poetic-rhyming' with a 'deeper' message to be good. And that's not true. 4. And I had a very, very bad day at work and felt like giving some mindless rant.

Nothing wrong with 'meaningless gangstarappers'. What an arrogance from these Kanye lovers. Clean hip-hop is boring as hell. You just need to have a good balance. Kanye's last album was very good though, beats wise. The rest doesn't do me anything. And these metal kiddos need to stop moaning. They listen to hard music that is guided by lyrics that are about the devil nailing holy virgins to the cross. NOT TO MENTION THEY ALL SMELL LIKE SWEAT! These kids.
