  1. Well...Hmm...I've heard ssome aussies use a form of handheld satellite gadgets that use sattelite but are only 1.5mps and work-around-so-it's-a-reasonablly-priced internet. In maine i use dial-up and have found it isn't all that cheaper. It's 15 dollars monthly, and DSL was 20-30 last i checked? Check whenever you can, internet services expand. Whereas i wasnt covered for a horrible two years (since i first checked), they expanded one day and i didnt realize for a year faster interntet was available
  2. Hmm...This is a *great* thread i picked up a few and love them!! Thanks!!
  3. Cool! I like the idea of 99 fm but am lazy myself :D, need donations of any sort of logs? I can get you some (not a ton lol but free logs are free logs especially when free lol...maple too :P)
  4. Most no :D unless it's a bad trial software. For zonealarm though you can just reinstall the trial over and over...but that's naggy :P
  5. Well, if anywhere i'd buy it from http://www.newegg.com as OEM but that's because i built my computer. Still, i'm sure their retail version would be lless expensive (bestbuy, circuit city, alot of those are just ripoffs) This is once it's actually out :-) I wouldnt upgrade to vista right away when it comes out unless you dont already have xp. As for the beta versions I'd imagine the microsoft sites (http://www.microsoft.com) but am not sure if the betas havn't expired
  6. Nice guide, also cool how it's like 'JOIN me' not 'come read me' Odd, but nice touch...I like'd it hehe even if not intentional. Best wishes
  7. Cool :-), thanks for the speedtest link too. Perhaps offtopic perhaps but i noticed my results aren't directly propertionate to yours. While i can't complain with... Last Result: Download Speed: 5074 kbps (634.3 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 1665 kbps (208.1 KB/sec transfer rate) Still, I'm running 100mbs+ (limited only by my cable) and am 5ish times faster. I'm still very happy, but noticed it isn't direct.
  8. I like the guide, i tried it, but i didn't find it any quicker... afterall, you still have to pay attention and click in sync :(
  9. ...Ignoring Zonda...If you do find the solution elsewhere please post back here. Weird :\ i suddenly received a similar problem about 3 hours ago.
  10. lol \ Well, there are viruses...:P... :-k But all they really do is cripple :-k And isn't it needed now even for registration of sp2?
  11. I cannot remember if it was verizon or comcast that had a recent change in (at least) the new england region [usa] which they send letters of notification around last july and would affect certain users after late august with period of down time, unless they changed their settings on this and this (according to procedure on the letter or on the letter's link) Me, i was changing anyway next month isp's so i didnt bother.
  12. As for getting every software for free i wouldn't recommend it...Often there are bad versions. Unless you're getting from a friend, but i just wouldnt. If you have serious professional uses, pay for it. If you're just fooling around, get a basic program.
  13. Anti-vir and Avast are other alternatives. If you have the cash consider trend micro suite or Zonealarm suite. As for ripping the OS. Yes. I ripped my legal copy of XP, over my legal copy of ME. On my old computer. I also reinstalled linux over where my legal copy of Xp had been, and I'm now an 3vil h4x0r. [in anycase atm i'm running a 110 dollar of XP2b OEM (i build me compy :)) - satisfied?] My point, towards macfee, is that i don't like software that treats its user like that. Why does it need to constantly check with it's server whether updating or not whether i'm legitimate? In anycase, it wasn't even much of a program although for a while macfee had been rather powerful in the anti-virus department (that's why i had purchased it per-recommendation/use of their stinger program which seems to have been abandoned?) Btw, i'm not sure if that's changed...This was mid 2005- mid 2006 i used it.
  14. Yeh, to get to the point ^ (Since i've been sort of making it worse confusing up and muddling replies...) It can also be if you click the link in a pic
  15. Err maybe not Zonda, stop being an idiot. I PAYED THE BLOODY $60 DOLLARS FOR MY ONE INSTALLED, ONE VERSION OF MACFEE. Stop being a smartass and grow up. Why am i mad? Because i actually paid for the junk :s
  16. I love spellchecker, i only used google toolbar before hand because of it :D
  17. As you said here, unless he had xp running on the computer before he had linux, then he will not have it. It comes with windows, not the hard drive. Haha it was a joke...And someone fell for it :-s Lol, well it was good, i got laugh thanks...lol \
  18. Not at all true. Many freeware or even trials of payed programs work just as well. Personally, i HATE macfee and norton. Norton for being a hog, superimposing, and still managing to not be dominant/better. Macfee for being a microsoft hoodie with their anti-piracy checks. I've had them and you can't be in safe mode (w/networking) as it needs acess to internet to confirm you're not a monster :s It looks like you have rougue antispyware, I'd go along with Cruisers suggestions, although windows defender is good too (you need 'validated' windows)
  19. Can you give more detail? Are they not showing up? Can you not see them? Are they not working? Maybe a screenshot if applicable?
  20. Well, anandtech.com is a hardware site but they have many knowledgeable users. Bleepingcomputer.com is a good mirror and also offers forum help :P Hmm... cybertechhelp.com looks reasonable.
  21. Well, for start make three collums. There should be a littl :: :: icon (little lines) somewhere near the right allign, left align, center, icons. Three collums that is if the brochure is as stardard sort. However many collumns as you need for your folding design. I can't really remember for sure...I use openoffice now...bwahah! I'm almost free....
  22. Well, actually, the 99.9 percent most likely applies to patched systems. :s i would consider it much higher (and my patched i mean firefox not IE), with nonpatched system/security/browser. Much much higher, well, lower. The biggest issue is clicking things accidently (or so i think with patched gear). And to remember to click "x" not yes or no (the two can be magically switched)
  23. I also have a habit of knowing all processes. My referal to security software was more directed towards if you, like me, still run the programs just incase and possibly received a conflict between the two that damaged your computer's windows files. I'm not sure how much help you can get here because while there are some people who can administrate detailed quality help here, a different more computer-orientated forum base might be better...
  24. Spybot SD is very similar to Lavasoft, it's also good in addition to lavasoft though (free is...free...) http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-D ... ag=lst-0-1 (The cnet rating isnt good, it complains about the lock ups, i've used it since it was out without ever having a problem. User feedback is 4.5 stars [very good]) It's good to have a non active second anti-virus in which case i recommend bitdefender free (Find it yourself, i'm lazy :) Another anti-spyware that's a very good compliment to the other two, and i'd choose it over spybot is AVG Spyware, formerly Ewido antispyware. I used to recommend spycatcher express (free active securit) but then it conflicted with a program and killed my computer for a week. DOnt forget the windows defender it's free and great as it has active protection
  25. I think he's talking about windows firewall. I'd suggest just getting Zonealarm free. It'll override the windows firewall, is safer although the free version is weak, and you'll find it easier to use. At first it'll prompt you alot but once you set the rules for your favorite programs it's easy to use.
