Bush says sacrificed free-market principles to save economy.
We've only spent half that package so far and it has helped. What we face now is a severe decline in business and consumer confidence. In simple terms, we need to increase demand and that is what Bush is proposing (fiscal policy). The economy could recover on its own, but you would possibly be bankrupt or on the street by the time it gets out of the recession. So, yeah, we could just leave it be, but that would be silly and leave you splitting wood for sandwiches.

Who needs 8 hours of sleep?
Pseudoscience? I think so. Give me scientific trials or it's just an infomercial on the same level as those gold magnets that make you quit smoking. If this was really such a profound discovery there would be serious research into it. So far, all I've seen is pseudoscience.

I enjoy my waking sleep; it's when delusions are most real.

Bush says sacrificed free-market principles to save economy.
Traditionally, the government can spend money on infrastructure to pull the economy out of a recession. Usually, things like roads, bridges, schools, etc. However, Congress isn't exactly willing to quickly pass such spending because many times it can come too late. For example, the recession started in December 2007 and it may already be over (it's hard to tell). If it is already over, approval of infrastructure spending would just be fueling an expansion instead of pulling us out of a recession, which would make it money poorly spent. It's most likely not over though, just giving a speculative example. Edit: Good recent NYT article on the issue: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/17/business/economy/17leonhardt.html?em The article also addresses the recent issue of deflation, which could cause some extra problems if it gets significantly worse.

Maybe when you reposted the link you should of pulled some main points from it. Otherwise we could all just post links and not discuss anything.

What was the most scared you have ever been?
When the Homosexuality thread reached 76 pages. Father named child Adolf Hitler, and asks for tolerance
I assume he'll be called Adolf for short. What a horrible name, Adolf. By the way, parents won, the press lost, and now we're losing. Damn.

Bush says sacrificed free-market principles to save economy.
He's done it before(think tax refunds). This isn't big news. Either way, he's doing what any competent economist would do, no matter the political orientation. Fiscal Policy! Although Congress is still grumbling about it and we might already be out of the recession anyways (doubtful, but possible).

Personality Test
When we had to take it in college for a future possible careers thing, the lady giving the exam said afterwards that many people will get different results everytime they take the test. I've read some of the descriptions of other types and I think about 4 of them describe me. Besides crazy business people, I think the test is more geared toward having people critically think about themselves and who they are. It seems to work in that respect.

Going on a Diet, Need advice.
Food coloring has a lot of calories. Anyways, corn syrup and food coloring should generally be avoided because it is in junk food not because it is inherently bad. High fructose corn syrup is essentially just sugar, although more expensive to make than sugar (there's politics behind why we use high fructose corn syrup).

After Christianity: what will be the next big "Religion"?
Some churches actually do something like that, they get someone to run in with a gun an tell people if they want to live then they must say there is no God, then they can leave. They use this to find out who really are Christians I'm sorry, but I just can't believe that at all.

The Big Three (GM, Ford and Chrysler)
Actually, Ford's probably going to be fine. They'll take a hit for sure, but will definitely survive. I could care less about GM and Chrysler. Are you serious? GM is huge. It's the parent company of Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GM Daewoo, GMC, Holden, Hummer, Opel, Pontiac, Saab, Saturn, Vauxhall, and Wuling. If GM goes then say goodbye to cheap cars and cheap running, since spare parts will become expensive, and the depreciation of a car purchase will be huge, you'll probably lose more than 50% in just 18 months. I believe Sweden (some European country) is bailing out Opel and Saab, which will help GM. And is Vauxhall having any significant issues(I haven't heard much about Britain as of late)? GM has made some bad choices regarding their US market and need to change their car line. The Volt is not going to cut it. If they bring their Euro designs over to the US, then they may have good competition with Ford who is already working on that. Ideally the bail out was going to help them pay for that, but I don't know if it will be enough. Really, I don't want any of those companies to go under, but I've never been a particular fan of GM and the way they do business. Does Daewoo even make cars anymore?

Going on a Diet, Need advice.
Whatever you do, try to mix up what you eat. If you get bored of the same thing over and over again, those fatty foods may become oh so appealing. Otherwise, a good variety of fruits and veggies is always good. Different types of salads with low fat dressings are also good.

Independence Movements and your opinions
I'm not to familiar with most of these issues, but I'll address the ones I know. My opinion clearly in bold. Sadly, I don't actively follow international news, so I wouldn't be surprised to find my opinions misguided except for Palestine.

Bush nearly assassinated...with a shoe
It's been said, but Bush has some fast reflexes. He actually looked ready to take on more too. He's a natural shoe dodger.

School and Dodgeball
I'm not sure I understand the rationale behind that. Me thinks your principal has major control issues. Probably has a train set in the basement (not saying there's anything wrong with train sets!).

What do you want for christmas/hanukkah?
Starting about 4 years ago, I haven't wanted anything for Christmas. I actually don't like receiving gifts all that much. I'd much rather give them. Hehe, nice sig.

Gun Control
I don't see this as a problem. Handguns are designed to kill people -- these are not toys to fool around with or stamps to be collected. Continued ownership of handguns, especially for mere recreational use, is not worth the increase in homicide rate that comes with it. Yes, handguns are designed to kill people, but to the people that don't kill people they are recreational items and they use them at a completely safe firing range somewhere back in the sticks and there is absolutely no harm done. And people do collect them, and why can't they? They're not going to kill anyone with them. And recreational use isn't a good reason? Why not? You can use your computer can't you? You could kill someone with that if you really tried. Granted it will be a lot harder but my point stands. And yet again, people will always kill people whether it be with illegal firearms or with something else, they'll do it. Here is a fact sheet showing how many crimes are prevented with the presence of firearms. Yeah it's biased but facts are facts. http://www.gunowners.org/fs0101.htm A computer's sole design is not to kill another person. People will always kill people, true. However, by your argument we should legalize nuclear weapons, because people are going to kill people whether they're legal or not. (in other words, bad argument that's been repeated before in the thread. Don't use it) Also, if you just want to be able to shoot handguns at targets, then ranges could get permits from the government allowing handguns on the property, while not allowing people to keep handguns in private households.

happiest, saddest or most boring moment of your life
I remember when my grandfather was dying (he had blood flow issues and had to have his legs amputated), I was only 8 (ish) and didn't fully understand the situation. So when he saw me and my brother looking at him confused he just smiled and wiggled his stubs of legs, laughing. I never knew him too well, but that one moment really sums up who he was very well.
