Jagex' RuneScape will end someday, you cannot deny that. Some dedicated players might run "private servers" like Jagex' and might run that way. But the "official" RuneScape will some day, end. But when? I have on idea. We would have to look into the histories of other MMOs, which I know little about. My guess though, is when total players reach a couple million Jagex will have to shrink and thus less updates. With less updates, more and more people leave to the point Jagex feels no point in running the game anymore.

I understand the logic behind that, but that is a cost of making your movie NOW rather than later. Eventually all things will be updated so its easier to do, but that shouldn't discourage you because that's how life is. However, the creative minds of good machinimators will continue into the "Orb era" because, quite frankly, this orb won't solve all of our machinima problems. It's a great step, but other things are still needing to be 'upgraded': that's where creativity will play another role. What that situation reminds me of is when the Model Viewer for WoW came out. It's basically a 3rd Party software that allows you to extract the models from the game into a blue/green/whatever screen. Compared to filming in-game (which RuneScape still is), machinimators could load up Model Viewer and use lots of different characters, wearing all sorts of armour and clothing, while never having to log in once. That fixed a big "problem" of machinima. However, it wasn't the solution. There was another software, Map Viewer, which extracted the world map like it did the models. You had to align the character to the background just right so it wouldn't look fake. If you didn't work on it, it would look horribly worse than filming in-game. But that's where your skill comes into play. You make the two work. Later, you also had to get all the movements right, in your editing program. In Model Viewer your character only stays in one place. It can walk, run, do emotes, etc, but won't move. Again, you had to use your skill and creativity to make emotes and movement flow smoothly. In essence, this Orb will greatly help RuneScape machinima-making; but won't fix other problems.

Merchanters/investors are rich because they only put money into things that will increase value over time. A cape will not increase it's value nor give any skill bonus (say, wasting millions on 99 Fletching has no value, but the skill itself is it's own "reward" if you will; a cape won't do that).

I understand Jagex' worry and all, but it really does play risk to the player. Say if you were joking around like the OP and cops come and it turns out to be false, it leaves you with a tainted reputation and even your account being marked too. So I dunno.

This is brilliant! Just today I was thinking of a way to remove your RS character from the camera view; I came up with masks but you know what, screw that, I'll use this now! :mrgreen: I also see we got quite a bit of machinima flamers here... hehe. Maybe this will change your minds a little bit. Because machinima is so accessible to the masses there is going to be a lot of it floating around the web. Basic machinima is also very easy to do. If you combine them both, ease and accessibility, you're going to end up with lots of "lower quality" machinima. What I mean by that, is that its either boring or just dead awful. It's not low quality because the lack of equipment (not too much a problem in RuneScape machinima though) but a lack of good ideas/work. That being said, I can surely assure you that there is some great machinima out there that rivals or can easily beat Hollywood movies and series. That being said, machinima is like digging. You're going to find a lot of dirt and rubbish, but eventually you will find a treasure or a gem. Machinima can be pretty damn amazing let me tell you that. But just because you see some of the "low quality" ones, doesn't mean there aren't any good ones. I personally cannot state some of the RuneScape ones becuase I've been out of it for so long, but I could name a lot from some other games. -- Also don't confuse PK/Game interaction (bank vids, bosses, etc) with my usage of machinima; to me they shouldn't be classified as such. Music videos are on the half-way though. But still, this is a pretty important news from Jagex. Giving recongiztion to machinima and hosting another contest! I'm definitely entering that!

10 Hunting and Summoning...never got into hunting at all tbh, and took a break as Summoning came out. Other than that, I got 53 herblaw as my 3rd lowest.

Who the [bleep] was saying that? You're assuming the updates won't have self-control. The snowball effect won't happen unless Jagex lets it happen. Give F2P a few things, that's it. F2P can ask for more all they want but unless Jagex breaks in, F2P is happier than before.

It's his fair piece of speculation, but I don't expect Jagex to slow down this year. They have to advance their game sometime, right?

That's kinda...BS isn't it? I tried it a little bit and I've played these types of games before and I don't like 'em. Hope the rest of you do, though.
