12-Apr-2010 - Dungeoneering Skill!
 Explain? It's opaque, like the Ghostly Robes. What else could it be but the Cloak of Shadows referenced in the notes? As above, Squisher could be right. The Cloak of Shadows sounds rather powerful, and isn't in the game yet. It's a cloak, which would be by itself in that slot. Sorry to say this guys, but I doubt the "cloak of shadows" is an item. Rather, its a figure of speach that suggests the monster uses the shadows to hide and stay unseen in the darkness. My exact thoughts. I would agree if it were not for the obviously "cloak-of-shadows like" thing depicted on the page.

Well the obvious question would be whether or not a promethium/primal plate will save you 4 hp per second on average, if not, then the necklace is better. How to test that, no idea. EDIT: It sure would be nice to have those forgotten warriors taking some more damage over the poison between the scarce spear hits.

why is chaotic crossbow such a joke?
I don't think so, but that would definitely give it a use. Good idea. Agreed, that is a great idea. And to zaaps...you raised my hopes for the xbow and then smashed them like...a smashable thing.

Guilded Alter?
There is no bonus from the more expensive burners other than the aesthetic value. They all stay lit for the same amount of time and provide the same bonus.

Not sure where you are pulling the 150-200k per hour figure from...on average you will not get even one more kill per hour *on average* (there are obviously exceptions, and one of those exceptions *could* drop claws). On whip v gs, try both for a few trips each, and then you will know. I already personally did that, but I only personally did that because I did not believe someone who told me that a gs would be better until I had tried it for myself.

Godswords are better. Big hits far outweigh fast hits for tds. Rune bolts are overkill in all honesty, tip.its calculator tells me that around my levels(don't know yours) you gain about 3 to your max(30) while spending about 8 times as much per shot, and if you use a soul wars cape, which is significantly better in my opinion, your expensive bolts will be stacking up on the floor. Diamonds are basically useless because tds have horrible defense.

Turning an item worth nothing into GP's!
Longbow(u) is probably the *best* junk from a buyer's standpoint, since I don't think they're price has changed much in...ever? So converting it back to coins is not at all hard.

Dungeoneering Weapon Average Damage
If I remember right, mage robes have the highest defense in crush and lowest in stab, and the demonheim monsters seem to use actual armor stats.

The New Combat Skills
88 Summ (Uni) - useful to the point of stupidity 92 Prayer (SS) - some people seem to undervalue soulsplit, but(potentially)unlimited health almost anywhere is nothing to scoff at 88 Herb (X Att / Str) - nice boost here, as you should always be potted 95 Prayer (Turmoil) - unless you solo/ffa or don't like protection prayers, this is ncie but not needed 96 Summ (Yak+Iron Titan) - again, this is quite nice to have but not at all necessary, more of a niche thing, also best combat familiar at that point by A LOT, and several people overlook the defense bonuses. 91/92 Herb (X Range / Mage) - Extreme mages are next to useless, and having the level for range is only useful for team arma so you can make more, other than that just stew from 88-90. Big dropoff... 95 Herb (OL) - In my eyes there is no reason to pass 94 at which you can use mature beer, and overloads really aren't that much better than extremes, but are much more expensive/troublesome to aquire and to use 80 Dungeon (Chaotic) - I have no personal experience, but my expectations are...meh. 99 Summ (Steel Titan) - This is for flare, not really needed...ever, iron titans are fantastic, this is just a small bonus.

The giant mole? Little more depth for those of us who dont care much about training this skill until the second batch would be nice.

Actually crush is really useful against skeletons and forgotten warriors so there is a lot of enemies weak against crush attacks too. Prome spear is still numbah one though. Using any kind of melee against forgotten warriors is not very effective. =| Crush for the plate ones and stab/slash for the chain ones seems to work fine.

Dungeoneering Herblore
I tested it out, and yes you can now boost to boost.
-
Dungeoneering Herblore
Yes, this was my main question, thank you all for your answers(especially regarding the air runes), but it seems that I did not ask my main question very well. I originally attempted to first boost my herblore level with any naturalist potion, and then to boost my smithing level with a strong artisan potion, which I could not have made without first boosting my herblore level.
-
Dungeoneering Herblore
I would like to make and bind a promethium spear, but I only have 87 smithing/92 herblore, so the only way for me to do so would be to boost herblore with a naturalist potion, and then boost smithing with a strong artisan potion(or get higher levels of course, but money is tight atm), however, i remember attempting this closer to release and failed miserably because boosted herblore levels seemed to be completely ignored. Has this been fixed? Or will I actually have to go train real skills/bother a friend to help? EDIT: Also, is it still possibly to profit by making multiple air runes?

3rd Age/Spirit shields/Phats Discussion
Yes and no. If you think about it, a good team can get around 40k+ xp dung an hour (4000+ tokens an hour). That's ~50 hours of playing for 200k tokens. Assuming you can make 1.5M an hour, 50 hours would be equal to about 75M in coins. The shields themselves are less efficient on stats than their spirit shield counterparts, however the shields have "special effects" which may boost their efficiency over the spirit shields in certain circumstances. A mager with a Farseer kiteshield is likley going to outperform a mager with a Arance SS in PvP due to the special effects of the Farseer Kite. In the long run the Farseer kiteshield is going to be far more expensive than the Arcane Spirit Shield would be, but at the risk of higher efficiency in some locations. If you do not use the shields for those locations (using the special attacks) then the shields are indeed worse than the Spirit Shields. However if you do use the special effects, the new shields can outperform Spirit Shields (at a higher cost). In other words, Arcane, Spectral, and Elysian are still great shields, but slightly less useful now as the new shields can outperform them in certain situations. They wont dry crash to nothing, but will not likley be the cost they were before this update. Divine price is unaffected since none of the shields can outperform it. I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly, but don't the new shields only effect damage over 200? and I think that Kree's max with mage is around 25, if that, so a big chunk of the damage would be missed.

= New Chaotic Items =
Yes it is, Zil can't hit anyone, ever, how is that not useful? I assume that you've never tried barraging zil.

Did you lamp/buy the exp? You can't use lamps/ToG/etc on this skill yet. When you trade in tokens for exp, the graphic representation is a lamp.

Am I missing something or did they kill off the pvm stickies? That is the only section besides marketplace that I even vaguely care about...

Would completely skipping a few levels(such as every damn ice level) after resetting have any negative effects?

Skill area icons on the minimap would be a very, very welcome change. I suggested a dynamic map on hover over of "?" it says what key is needed which yes would be a welcome change I'm I the only person who is making maps of there dungeon, listing each resource? Like I draw the rooms on graph paper/excel (if i'm on my widescreen laptop) then I add in like f8, for a tier8 fishing spot, or m7, for a tier 7 minning spot, w10 for tier ten wood cutting, c9 for a tier 9 fiber spot, etc. I also mark the farming spots, rune crafting altars, prayer altars, ranges, etc. Maybe I just have a bad memory, but I realized within only a few dungeoneering lvls (and a few of the larger/more complicated dungeons with bossesIi needed food/armor for) that I needed this help. I just can't remember where the things I need are. Unless jagex makes a very good map that includes all of these features (tier lvl of the resource being of upmost importance), I will just continue to map the dungeons on my own. I can also just mark out the resource once I use it up. Once you develop a system that works for you the time you spend making the map will be more than made up for by the time you save being able to go directly to the resouce you need. I find it easier to just carry a pick with me and cash out any worthwhile ore deposit when i pass it, then drop the bars near the anvils if I don't particularly need them yet. Meleeing with a spear on one of the 3 styles, wearing melee armour, and leaving on mage pray seems to be enough for every single boss(besides astea), so I never really bothered with other resources and just alch them

Dungeoneering Badges-
I can't remmber the exact name, but there was a reward for getting ko'd by a failed chiseling attempt. i think that it was "crafting catastrophe" and I'm betting that every skill related death has one.

I wonder why Jagex decided to omit spears and mauls from the kb...

Why are gems crashing?
Why most idiots constantly ruin useful things? Just glad that I tried stringing well before this mess. RIP Bull Roarer
