Untill you get to 53, then switch to chinchompas till 63, and go from there forever on red chinchompas.

The best way to get harrlander is to get your Kingdom running on mostly Herbs and the rest on trees, and sell the trees off, you will get around 50 harralanders every 3 days or so. At the same time you could grow them on your own. You will also make a little money while selling the maple logs you get and keep your kingdom running for nothing.

not a very good "reward", but its a holiday event, they are always quirky little things, I really liked the christmas tree, that sort of reward is really cool to have, the clothing rewards are never cool, nor usfull. Maybe something that reduces weight (-2 ?), like a shirt and pants or hat, would be a cool usfull reward.
