Is Jagex Over Cooking Runescape?

Is Jagex Over Cooking Runescape?

I have been playing Runescape for a number of years now̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâæ. in fact since the time of classic, the general feeling back then was that the community welcomed more frequent and regular updates to the game. Updates were usually weeks apart and of solid content, by this I mean that Jagex generally put a lot of thought and effort in producing something that would enhance game-play and make the game a more enjoyable place to be.

Over the last year, particularly the last several months I have drawn tired of the consistent pattern the game updates have been taking, Jagex seem to think they have to update the game every week with something new. This is coming at a huge price to the game, Jagex seem to be happy to add game content that has no meaning or reference that 95% of gamers could really do without. The game is starting to fill up with pointless quests and a huge number of useless items that should never have been released.

Hunting - A skill that should never have been released:

This skill brings nothing to the game and was abandoned as soon as the novelty wore off, leaving us with a bank full of useless items. Really Jagex what was the thinking behind this one? This skill was rushed and should have never made it into development.

Barbarian Assault ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ A minigame that also should never have been released:

This minigame was flawed right from the beginning; the rewards did not reflect the time and effort it took to obtain them and players grew tired of the repetitive tasks as soon as the novelty effect wore off ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ leaving Barbarian Assault deserted. Players look for ways in the game to show off their skills and display their power as a player, in this minigame they couldn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t do either. This minigame was pointless and is another example of Jagex releasing under developed content.

Quests ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ Jagex seems committed to releasing new content that is unappealing to a large proportion of the community.

The quests of recent have been at best palpable. Runescape is being overcrowded with too many quests that add nothing to game play and are a bore to complete, filling our bank up with yet more useless and unwanted items. Rewards seem to make or break a quest; a quest should always be drawn around a useful reward. Instead we see an under developed quest rushed out and released with a half hearted reward such as a lunch box. These recent quests seem to be poorly thought out and released just for the sake of it.

Jagex̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s lack of understanding of the community:

This is a big one, it seems that Jagex is misunderstanding its customer base. People play the game for many different reasons and people keep playing the game for many different other reasons. People will continue to keep playing the game as long as they have something to aspire to, a goal they can aim for, it might be a new set of armour or weapon or it might be a new skill based ability. Jagex have been aiming all there recent updates at low to mid level players (lets say around lvl 20 ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ 80) these updates are appealing in the short term to these kind of players but once the novelty wears off the new update 95% of players abandon the update in question. What appeals more to these low to mid level players is high lvl updates like for instance barrows armour that they can aspire for and work hard to achieve ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ this is the true secret to keeping a loyal following in a game. This kind of update keeps high lvl loyal players happy as well.

This thread focuses on the recent update pattern and the type of updates coming out of the development room, I have plenty more to say about this subject but this thread will have to do for now.

Is it me or am i the only player that is thinking this way or are there other players who think this aswell?

hunting - every skill stays the exact same from when its released right? every skill gets an update

barb assault - plenty like this minigame, fighter torso is worth it

quests - people like quests too

main point is, do you want runescape to be for one person or for different types of people who want to play the game?

I'm really starting to get sick of these whiners...

If you honestly need updates to keep you going then just quit. I could be satisfied for over half a year without one update and I'd still have plenty to do. I'm tired of the whiners about bad updates and such, its just getting old :wall:

As you grow higher level it just seems that all the quests are now geared toward lower levels. Although there have been some useless quests, it gives the game just more possibilities, which is always good. If there is a quest or skill you don't want to do, just don't do it.

lalalasig2.png

its just you- your opinion to be more accurate. Quests pointless? quests are fun, and thats what games are for. I'm getting annoyed at people constantly saying something in runescape is pointless, SINCE WHEN DID ANYTHING IN RUNESCAPE HAVE A POINT!?

hutning - agree

go to world 6 barb assult is packed still

quests - alot of people like quests, kuz there quest, not just the reward

overall i disagree with what your saying

Has Jagex lost touch with its gaming cummunity or have i come to expect different things from jagex as i have matured over the years?

My thread is asking is jagex just releasing content for the sake of it with no actual deep thought about how it will benifit the game?. Are they doing this because people have come to expect weekly content updates?

There are plenty of things to do in runescape. It's a game, for fun. If you think it's useless, go do something else.

All of thses high levels keep going around saying, "ooh poor me, I've been playing runescape sinse it came out, and now it's boring and it stinks,wa wa wa!"

Can you seriously tell me that you have done every single thing on RuneScape? Every quest? You have every item ever made? I'm impressed.

Well I think the point is that there is plenty to do already and plenty of depth in the game. Updates are just bonus, theres no need to complain about them.

To a lot of people, these things aren't novelties. Like me, I enjoy all three of the things you insulted. Sure, there are some lame rewards, but variety adds to the game, so it isn't so repetitive.

Well from the way I see it, you want things easier or harder.. either way you want it your way <.< .. Basically what your asking for is that universal remote, off of the movie click

I agree totally. With one update in six months I would still have plenty to do. The point of Runescape is to have fun, and I can do that without updates. People use to have fun without even computers, we should be able to do it with what we have and not need something new.

I dont think you understant the returning argument: and update doesn't have to be rewarding as long as its fun.

Thats not really much to discuss. It's a fact that they are choosing quantity over quality, but its not a huge deal. Every once in a while they put out that huge thing that peaks people's intests, every other time they put out things to excite they're gamers and keep them wanting to play. There will always be people who complain about an update.

Please give me an example of what exactly you suggest Jagex do differently?

I agree that sometimes Jagex does quantity over quality, but I also think that they do quite a bit of quality.

I like BA, but they need a better team system

Hunter is awesome, it's fun, and I like the rewards... mainly the capes, but...

And I love quests, even the dumb ones. More quests=more qp=longer in the cave of tears.

agreed

there's also the fact that most "loyal, longtime, high level players" threaten to leave without plentiful updates for themselves...if they're that loyal they shouldn't need constant changes...

the author thinks the same way as 90% of the population

I'm beginning to feel that I'm the only one that has actually liked 90% of all the recent updates.

I personally would not mind whatsoever if Jagex simply released *1* very well planned, and very large update per month.

And yes, I think Quality > Quantity.

t3hshabster.png

And whos to say that quality cant come from or be found in the quantitiy???

Just becuase they are realising more updates now then they were before has nothing to do with the fact that they are worse now then they were before

More people playing a game will always = more attention to the game in the form of updates

People (as a whole) tend to believe that they are having their best interests met if they read about many updates to come...you however (amoungst many others on these forums lately  ) are in that minority of people.
