I don't think you can compare us to policemen walking the beat. I'm not going to post on a lot of topics "I'm here" just so people know I am. Don't assume we're not reading topics if we don't post to them. If I do post to a topic it's probably for a good reason. And yes there is a lot of work behind the scenes that you can't see or post count. I was not comparing moderators to them as much as I was using that as an example. I could have used School hall monitors, Security guards, or even managers at an office. The idea however is still the same. Just being around helps to deter a large amount of bad posts and behavior. I didnÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t assume that mods do not read or anything like that. I realize that a large amount of the tip.it community likes to read, and rarely post. Moderators should not be one of those people. As another example- If a police officer/hall monitor/security guard/manager/or any other person with the duty to reduce and solve problems only came out to respond to an issue (bad thread, post, signature, whatever) then there would be a high amount of bad activity. One of the best deterrents is a constant reminder to do the right thing, especially in an internet community with little to no real life connection. I think the best way to do this is to simply reply to a topic, if only to say "grats". Others see the moderator symbol and are unconsciously reminded of their presence. All in all reducing and deterring bad behavior.

Satenza still raises a good point. A larger "show of force" always helps deter bad posts. Show of force on the forums would be more posts by people with moderator/official sigs and avatars. I am not saying anything about possible inactive mods or mod recruiting. Half a police officers job is done just by being around- "hey lets go rob that store" "no way, there are cops that put you in jail for that". Let the spammers/kids/key loggers go to a forum that has no "cops". This would also help reduce the amount of posts asking for more mods. More mods posting makes it seem like there are a lot of mods AND that they are reading the forums (i.e. - patrolling posts for bad content). I have not read anywhere in this topic that people think moderators are "picked out of a hat". I have NEVER encountered a mod I would accuse this of. All the mods I know of are respectful and do a great job. Most tip.iters I see post are a good part of the community. Remember the primary age group here. Even if the majority of these "punks" make up the smallest age group, it is because of their age that they do so. Put yourself in the shoes of a 10-14 year old (I am more then twice this age, sorry if I get it wrong :XD: )-They probably just do not think (consciously) before they post. Their unconscious brain realizes that a bad post gets them nothing more then a warning by someone they do not know/see on a forum they have no physical connection with. Great I got banned from the forums, time to make a new tip.it account. Or- "o well, banned from tip.it, guess IÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ll head over to rune hq." No real life, physical connection, or emotionally destabilizing punishment means a few immature people think nothing is wrong with what they do. Welcome to the internet. That's always going to be tricky. Like I said above, no REAL connection means some people think nothing is wrong with lying, bad behavior, etc. However, I have never found tip.it, or even Jagex, to pick a bad moderator. Whatever you have been doing, keep it up. I think it works great. First, you could simply not allow users below a certain post count to post links. A bit extreme I think. Second, you could flag posts with links posted by users with a certain post count (specifically new users). When new users post a topic or post with a link, it flags the moderators; someone looks at the post/link and determines if it is ok or a threat. Another way to do this would be anytime a new user post a link, that link/post must first be reviewed by a mod. It really depends on the capabilities of this forum technically.

It Does not stack, that is why most mage stakers use it once in the start of a duel, instead of multiple times. Same as other ancient spells, it is an on or off thing. You always freeze for 20seconds, always poison for the same amount, and always lower accuracy by the same amount.

When ever I try to join with tip.its browser IRC link, I get this- I have downloaded irc and can use it that way fine, but I would like to be able to use this as well. Any Ideas on what the problem is?

No box came up, I am the admin of the comp. what would i try with my firewall or security settings?

The title of this thread asks us why we do not use Tip.its official irc chat, I answered with my reasons. The real reason of this thread seems to be to respond to everyone that prefers clan chat, and get them to use irc. :shame: I prefer clan chat because it is simple, right there in my game screen, and easy to use. If you think that is childish, or my reasons are silly, then keep it to yourself. Some prefer clan chat, some irc, some use both. I have tried irc and clan chat, and I will stick with clan chat.

It is far too complicated. I do not understand any of the commands or how to use them, or what they do. Strange symbols, scripts(whats a script? lol), bots, too much STUFF to understand and do. Clan chat is much better, even if there is spam. I usually use a private chat, it is much more simple, easier to use.

Agreed, rules are rules. He knowingly broke them, was caught, and should pay the same consequences as everyone else. I find it hard to respect someone who throws all that work away in days/weeks(however long it went on). There are many more productive ways to make money. This is a neat post, but pointless without proof. O yea, I am the richest person in rs, prove me wrong :wink:

Good update, but I have no reason to train rc anyway. Useless levels for a skill i don't use. Others should throughly enjoy this though.

When lunar came out (vengeance), players complained about mage being overpowered. Fighter torso came out, players complained about melee being overpowered. Crossbows got updated, players complained about range. New prayers came out, players went back to complaining about melee. Dark bow came out, complaints about range. Now the godsword comes out, and its the same thing--"omg range is worthless". It's a 50m+sword. If you are a ranger, a mage, or hybrid, then what is the difference anyway? Those are DISTANCE attack styles. Look at the famous pkers. Why are they so good? They use updates like this to their advantage. Mature, competent pkers would look for a pker with a godsword and the opportunity to make it theirs. As far as duel arena goes, I don't see how you complain about range being weak there. You agreed to the rules to duel with, so it's your undoing. Finally, f2p. You expect jagex to update f2p ranged? It is a free game, Updates are for members. There are plenty of good f2p rangers anyway. What makes pking so interesting and fun is player A thinks his skills/style is better then player B. To find out who is right, itÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s a fight to the death (or should I say, a run away back to edge).
