Are 5%/10% Prayers Overlooked?
the xp you gain is basically directly proportional to the damage you deal. So if you do 5% more damage you gain approximately 5% more xp. Therefore you gain 5% more xp every hour. It is safe to assume that: 1 - (100 / 105) ~= 5% So a 5% increase in xp is roughly the same as a 5% increase in speed. Not exactly the same, but you can reasonably assume so.

Are 5%/10% Prayers Overlooked?
Are 5% Prayers (or even 10% prayers) -- Strength and Range prayers -- overlooked for basic training (low leveled monsters)? 5% Prayer analysis With a reasonable prayer bonus (~15) the drain rate for each of the 5% prayers is approximately 3.33 points per minute. (Without any prayer bonuses it is around 5 points per minute. That means in an hour, you will spend ~200 prayer points. Assuming your base prayer level is 60, that means you will have to spend ~140 extra prayer points, or 1.5 prayer potions (4)). This amounts to 2 inventory spaces and about 10K in costs. Assuming 99 Strength and 120 Strength bonus (whip), the 5% prayer allots you 2 extra points of damage on your max hit (37 --> 39). This is approximately 5% more damage, so you train roughly 5% faster. Assuming you can make 500K an hour, it takes you a bit more than 1 minute to make up the costs of the prayer potions. However, you save approximately 5% of your time, or 3 minutes. So with these assumptions 5% prayers are economical to use. 10% Prayer analysis With a reasonable prayer bonus (~15) the drain rate for each of the 10% prayers is approximately 6.67 points per minute. (Without any prayer bonuses it is around 10 points per minute. That means in an hour, you will spend ~400 prayer points. Assuming your base prayer level is 60, that means you will have to spend ~340 extra prayer points, or 3.5 prayer potions (4)). This amounts to 4 inventory spaces and about 25K in costs. Assuming 99 Strength and 120 Strength bonus (whip), the 10% prayer allots you <4 extra points of damage on your max hit (37 --> ~41). This is approximately 10% more damage, so you train roughly 10% faster. Assuming you can make 500K an hour, it takes you a bit more than 3 minutes to make up the costs of the prayer potions. However, you save approximately 10% of your time, or 6 minutes. So with these assumptions 10% prayers are also economical to use. Discuss

The New Regen brace
Disclaimer to mods: Sorry if this belongs in the update post, but again I insist this is a separate topic worthy of its own discussion. With the Defender of Varrock Update, the Regen brace was updated to have what it's always needed to become a viable item -- combat stats. Its new combat stats are roughly those of a combat brace. Compared to Barrows gloves, the Regen brace is ~4 points less accurate, ~6 points less defense, and ~5 points less strength. However, it heals an extra 1 hp per minute. So, here's the first point to bring up: Will plain Regen brace (without the following combinations)'s 1 hp restore per minute offset the combat stats loss? I would argue no; you are probably going to be getting hit more damage by the -6 loss in defense than you are gaining with the 1 hp per minute. However, an interesting thing to note is that Regen brace stacks with hp restore prayer. That means if you use both the hp restore prayer and the regen brace you get 4 hp per minute. I've personally tested this; it heals 2 hp every 30 seconds. 4 Hp per minute -- that is significant. Over an hour, that means you've added basically 4 * 60 = 240 HP healing, or 12 sharks. Essentially half the power of a Bunyip, or comparable to the minimum healing of an SGS, and both are far more expensive. Speaking of SGS, this regen + restore prayer combo needs some way of restoring a bit of prayer every minute, since HP restore prayer uses up 2-3.33 prayer points per minute. SGS is perfect for this, since its average prayer healing rate is ~3.5 / minute. Using all 3, SGS, regen, and restore prayer, you can heal about 10 HP a minute. Add Bunyip into this mix and you've got 18 HP per minute. Unicorn, and youve got 31 HP a minute. (And yes, I've calculated SGS heal rate to be 6-7 HP / minute depending if you have prayer or not. You take the integral of y = x except if x <= 20 , y is constant at y = 20. Then you do average value theorem to find the average, and divide by 2 to get HP restore and 4 to get prayer restore) Discuss :)

Maging the Corp. Beast
I've heard it's quite accurate -- anyone can confirm this? Main problem in my eyes would be the cost -- but then again you could probably just use chaos with gaunts and be able to hit 16's with only 100 gp/spell.

ok look at what you just said then look at the defense stats of the dfs compared to it. you are very wrong now gtfo

Post all RS Screenshots, Videos, and Sounds here!
:ohnoes:  :ohnoes: WHAT?!! Gl soloing it... Gl KILLING it for that matter :-# Well people have killed it we know that, but it's going to be interesting to see the first recorded solo kill! :ohnoes: Its impossible to solo, because when no one is attacking it, it goes back to full hp, so as soon as you eat its back to 2k hp. Killing it without eating? Or is there that attack delay using sara brews? [/hide] Don't Karambwans or w/e allow you to eat without stopping combat :D There's still a small pause And its really hard to time (you have to have good timing for it to not cause delay) especially if youre about to die

The New Shields
It's really surprising that people are already drawing conclusions on shields that barely anyone has access to. I'm going to hold onto my final opinions until I see some testing models, thanks very much. Common sense: +10 def, or 30%/17% damage reduction? (.25 * .7 ~ .17) Putting things in perspective: People aer willing to pay 60M for 25% extra damage on your AGS. yet you're not willing to pay 85M to reduce 25% damage on 70% of your hits? Or, 30% constantly? You're basically making an AGS spec a normal hit.

15 September 2008 - Summer's End
Divine and Elysian are like the best pieces of equipment out there Divine will kill your prayer too quickly to be useful in many situations. In PvP, you'll be smited out fairly easily. In PvM, if you don't watch your prayer zealously, you will have it drop and you'll probably be KOed if you are at GWD. Still, I foresee them dropping to 15m for the Arcane, 10m for the Spectral, 50m for Elysian, and 40m for Divine. People in RS are stupid and only care about damage, and since the shields have no strength bonus, many will overlook them. So an easy solution is just to keep on watching your prayer just as someone would watch their HP... we dont know yet how much a hassle the prayer drain rate is, don't want to make any early conclusions SGS doesnt really do that much extra damage, heals only as fast as a bunyip, and its still worth 50M+

It's really surprising how many people think that DFS is still the best defense shield
-
The New Shields
it's a bit different. I think jagex's idea with divine was that you'd be constantly eating ppots instead of food... you would watch your prayer just as much as you would watch your hp

Interesting question to bring up: Who would win: Rune Cbow + Divine vs. AGS (foodpots on) Whip + Divine vs. AGS (foodpots on)

The New Shields
Um what. Lol in PvP Divine is just like protecting against all three forms of combat (prot prayers are 40% damage reduction, divine is 30%) I'll bet you my 3rd melee set they won't, lol. And no... DFS is most useful for rangers/magers who don't really care about strength bonus. People that use DFS for the strength bonus should really be using defender.. +20 attack > +2 str. Sub-10M I dont see as too likely considering people were willing to pour millions into CW equipment. ZGS is almost exclusively used for CW.

No one needs an 80M shield for slayer just like you don't really need an AGS to slay either; a 1.2M whip will suffice. These shields I think are really meant for hardcore monster hunting and PvP.

Probably Spectral and Elysian

The New Shields
Here are my two cents: Divine: THE best defense shield in the game, but over time will cost more to use than Elysian. 30% Damage reduction on all attacks is like protecting against all 3 forms of combat in PvP. I'm kind of going crazy that they would introduce such a high reduction rate... solo Bandos is considerably easier now that Graardor will only hit 20 instead of 30 on me. I would say it is worth its 80M price tag. Plus I'd rather much have this shield than the ability to summon a silly unicorn  The drawbacks are that it is expensive to use this special ability. Because the damage reduction also drains your prayer, you would need a high prayer level and a lot of extra prayer pots to effectively use this shield. With that said, if you have 80 prayer (which restores ~27? prayer points per ppot dose), each dose (worth ~2K) "heals" you 54 damage. This is cheaper than sharks, plus you don't have to eat. In addition you can hold 4 * 54 = 200 HP of "healing" per inventory spot. This is 3 times the amount that a brew could hold. Analysis for 99 prayer: 33 prayer points per ppot dose = 66 damage healed for 2K = 66*4 = 264 HP of healing per invent spot. Another point is that you need to carefully use this technique. If you lapse in concentration it might drain your prayer too low. Also the fact that it is attack-neutral (i.e. doesn't cost you range or mage attack points) makes it a better shield for rangers and magers. Elysian: The "welfare" version of Divine 70% of all hits will be reduced in damage by 25%. Not as good as 30% damage reduction on everything, but you don't have to pay anything for it. Even so, the 25% on 70% is still a lot and trumps the DFS imo. Although I would say the Elysian is more practical for camping at places; it doesn't require ppots (and thus, invent spaces). So Elysian would be useful for something like DK's while Divine would be useful for something like solo Graardor. It's also useful for people who don't want to continually buy prayer pots... Also the fact that it is attack-neutral (i.e. doesn't cost you range or mage attack points) makes it a better shield for rangers and magers. Spectral: Castle Warrer's new favorite toy +30 Mage defense, lol. The max mage defense is now over 210, and meleers can reasonably obtain 70 magic defense. Arcane Best mage's shield in the game, about all you can say. +30 mage attack versus DFS and you only lose ~20 defense points.

The New Shields
Mods: if this belongs in the other post, please lock. I'm thinking that these shields have their own discussion value based on the fact that they deal with combat, not the quest. With the Summer's End quest jagex introduced 4 new shields, all priced more than the DFS. They all can only be obtained by killing perhaps the only un-soloable monster in RS. Here's the stats on the Shields: The Divine and Elysian shields have special properties: * Divine spirit shield 30% - or as much as if possible if 30% is more than your current amount of Prayer points - of any damage you take is removed. Half of this 30% is deducted from your Prayer instead, while the other half is ignored completely. * Elysian spirit shield 70% chance of reducing the damage you receive by 25%. Prices: Divine: 85M Elysian: 85M Arcane: 65M Spectral: 65M [hide=Commentary]Here are my two cents: Divine: THE best defense shield in the game, but over time will cost more to use than Elysian. 30% Damage reduction on all attacks is like protecting against all 3 forms of combat in PvP. 15 September 2008 - Summer's End
Comparing Elysian and Divine: Divine is really good if you're willing to pay a lot for extra prayer restore. Basically Divine enables you to use prayer pots as a source of food.. ~50 HP restored each dose, so about the price of sharks. Elysian is my favorite, since the damage reduction has no strings attached. 70% of all damage you take is reduced by 25%. Think about this, there is a 2/3 chance that the AGS spec will only hit you 57 instead of 77... there is a 2/3 chance that barrage can only deal 22 damage instead of 30. These two (Elysian at least) are better than the DFS defense-wise, hands down. DFS may have better stats but 30% reduction / 70%25% reduction in damage you take is a lot. Arcane: +20 Mage attack with nice defense bonuses... new favorite shield for mages. As far as mage defense goes, mage defense was never really meant for monster hunting. (even so it has practical uses in DKing). Rather the mage defense is for castle wars (in which this +30 mage defense will be highly valued) and clan wars and the like.

there are still questions about the ge but as their will be 15k offers at max i see it going up Offers don't affect GE price. That's why p hat prices arent continually going down First, they get put up for med price. Second, the idea is that people buy them at mid and resell. The resale value is the thing that affects price Jagex is a doing a bad job educating its players
