The best monsters to kill for each charm color
TheAncient replied to Solidus_77's topic in General Discussion
so how many kills is that? and how long did take you? anish00b One rock crab has about 240 HP. Assuming I hit an average of 7 damage per fire bolt, that means I will kill a rock crab after 34 casts. Assuming I cast 1000 bolts per hour, that means I will kill 29 GRCrabs in an hour. Analysis after 4K fire bolts: [hide=data] Charms----------- 490 Gold 50 Green 40 Crimson Drops------------- 4 Rock shell splinters (80K) 3 Rock shell chunks (45K) 2 Rock shell shards (40K) 6 Addy Longs (12K) Total: 177K Note: I didn't count Rock shell gloves or boots. I dont think theyre possible to sell on GE, price is too high) Costs------------- 4K Chaos (400K) 16K Fire (160K) Total: 560K Net---------------- 177K-560K = 383K loss.[/hide] Total analysis------------------------------------- Total Crabs killed: 116 Total Money Lost: 383K Total Time spent: 4.25 Hours Per crab: Gold/crab: 4.22/crab Green/crab: .43/crab Crimson/crab: .35/crab Cost/crab: 3.3K/crab Time/crab: 2.2 mins/crab Magic xp/crab: 1350 xp/crab Per hour: Gold/hour: 122/hour Green/hour: 12.5/hour Crimson/hour: 10/hour Cost/hour: 110K/hour Magic xp/hour: 39Kxp/hour -
You are right about the bubble bursting. At a certain point, they will become too expensive and the continual buying will stop. At this point, people will try to sell to cash in their profits, only to find that they will have to keep on cutting their selling prices in order to successfully sell.

The best monsters to kill for each charm color
TheAncient replied to Solidus_77's topic in General Discussion
After 2K fire bolts (w/ gaunts) @ Giant rock crabs: 260 Gold 20 Green 10 Crimson I've seen 1 blue drop in roughly 5K casts. -
I think I got level 15 hunter in 2 tear rounds.
-
I'd rather use those charms for higher-leveled pouches. Doesn't matter to me, I'm not in it for the race.
-
Don't train the first 20 levels. Use Tears of Guthix for 3 weeks and you should be somewhere around level 20. Or use your xp boosters (Books of Knol, etc.) Why do this? -- Charms are less useful at lower levels -- It costs more shards per xp at lower levels -- It's slower to train at lower levels -- Wait out the summoning buzz so you can find out most efficient ways to train

doing that just pisses everyone off I know that spot ;)

The best monsters to kill for each charm color

Looks like Barrowing has another benefit :D Rock crabs are good enough to be nerfed, I confirm again. -
They will be crowded soon enough. Tortoises have 120 HP. Training on them at 50K an hour means you can only kill about 60 an hour. Shells aren't 100% drop either. I estimate shells will cost 1-2K ea. They are already 800 ea anyway.
-
Bloated toads? They're something like 10 shards for 8.7 xp Plus the seconds are free
-
I don't think RS is completely about PvP. PvP may be fun, but it's not the point of the game. You are probably right in that Jagex intended summoning training to include getting the ingredients for the pouches. But, to me, that doesn't feel like training summoning. It feels like i'm training melee or range then, because those are the skills I will be actually using. It just feels strange that you have to train other skills 90% of the time, when you really want to train and practice summoning. Nice 77 Slayer :D
-
Why and how is it boring? In the future, you're going to be collecting charms not for the pure sake of collecting charms, you'll be collecting them as an integral part of training combat and slayer. So if you get bored of training summoning, you're probably going to get bored training combat and slayer in general. I dont see anyone complaining about those two. And if it is still boring, in comparison to what other skill? Training summoning is more about collecting the charms and seconds than the actual pouch creation. Pouches are incredibly easy to make, and can't be considered the meat of the training.
-
I agree, at least right now. Hence the "will". I will be doing most of my training (30-80) once it matures as a skill. Care to elaborate? Compared to smithing, crafting, mining, etc., you have to do a variety of things in order to train. Many of the charm-droppers drop charms of all colors. It's best to use all of the types of charms, rather than just one. You can make rough estimates. I think a level 90 will make a difference against many monsters. Multicombat zones: most of the major monster-bosses. The recently added chaos tunnels. Many mini-games that a lot of people spend the majority of their RS careers playing. Hence the charms. They aren't easy to get. like? Don't underestimate a level 90. Even if it does only 20-30 damage, that margin is sometimes the difference between being able to solo a KQ and having to re-bank.

Despite many initial complaints about summoning, I have to argue that it is the most brilliant combat skill, and arguably one of the best skills overall. Why? 1) It provides a pretty hefty advantage in combat. 2) In comparison to other skills, summoning is not that expensive. -- I am willing to pay a high premium to gain a significant advantage in multicombat. -- 10K a summon is not unreasonable for a level 90 monster helping me out. -- It's only a bankbreaker if you are training to 99. Up to level 80 is reasonably expensive, at most 20M and at least 10M. -- You won't be losing all of the money you put into pouches; there is a chance that pouch values (selling off finished pouches) will pay for some of your costs. 3) It is not a skill for stupid people. It is not simple. -- It's not endlessly repetitive to train. -- It's more efficient to train summoning when diversifying your training methods -- It's not a buyable skill. 4) It adds complexity to combat. -- You have to consider even another factor in combat, now that familiars are a consideration. RS's combat system was too simple, and summoning helps to make it more interesting and variable. 5) It adds complexity to the game, and skilling in general. -- It has made many previously useless items useful. -- It has provided incentive to training other skills. -- It is a complement to training other skills. Jagex isn't all bad. I would like to think of summoning as one of its only major successes in its recent months. To mods: I know you think this should fit under the "Summoning, not like this" thread, but I wanted a thread that directly opposed the main theme of that thread. I wanted to explicitly describe what was good about summoning, and I think this is different as a discussion rather than a bunch of people posting their general opinions.

I think people are blowing it out of proportion. It's an expensive skill, yes, but it's useful. It's like prayer. A lot of decent familiars (lvl 60-80) are accessible in the lvl 50-70 range, which I expect most people to train to. It's not a skill only for the wealthy. Think about it: how much are you willing to pay to have the firepower of a level 70, 80, or 90 fighting with you? I think Jagex did a good job between balancing the difficulty of the skill and the practicality. It's well worth it up to level 80, and past that is just for the skill cape / skilling. The only major drawback is that many of the scrolls are too expensive to be useful, as I say again. I will personally be stopping at 80. From initial estimates, I will like this skill. It's complex, it's mildly fun, it's useful, it's not something any ordinary noob can do.

I would get one, if only it didn't take so long and for 1/2 of my bank  -
Construction weakened the rares market, but there is still a lot of excess cash in the world. Ultimately the rares market simply slowed down. It did not crash. I imagine Summoning to have the same effect, as its cost is around the cost of Construction. Also, summoning, in my eyes, is somewhat a luxury skill, just like Construction.

I agree with the original poster. The scroll system is an unrealistic expectation of players from Jagex. I did some base estimates for the costs of various scrolls, and to my dismay found out that their gp pricing is absolutely ridiculous. Many of them are so impractical I have a hard time seeing them being used in a widespread context. The actual monsters themselves seem only minimally useful in combat, especially for their high cost. Their somewhat low level also renders them near useless against high-end monsters such as the GWD bosses.
-
Dont buy a BGS. It's not worth it; its only slightly better than Verac vs. high def Use your cash as capital for other sources of moneymaking (read: raise combat level), or merchanting. Until you get about 80M. Only then is the GS worth the extra cash

Yeah, maybe for skills. But, It takes much more than dedication to get extremely wealthy. Any noob can slave away and get 400K an hour, but a much wider array of circumstances/abilities is necessary to accumulate mind-boggling amounts of wealth.

why is it ironic that a 99 farmer would be at a farming patch :-k Once you get 99 farming you need to quit RS because your attention span is too big. No, farming requires almost no attention... it's just dedication, dude :P I got bored at the GE: I alched them all later 8-) -
This begs the question: Is the point of the game to be a good person, or to achieve things in-game? Which begs another question: Is the point of the game to become 'happy' with your character, or to receive satisfaction from the game? My answer to the latter question is for satisfaction. You don't play this game for the sake of becoming a good person and making others feel good. That's what real life is for. If you truly care about your dear neighbor, get your butt off from your computer desk and go help him out in the real world. This is not to say, if you play Runescape, you are selfish and only care about your own satisfaction. All I am saying is that there is distinction between being a good player in Runescape and being a good person in real life. This distinction should be made clear; if you want to be good at Runescape, you have to achieve your goals and be successful. If you want to be a good person, by all means, go ahead, but that doesn't have anything to do with your Runescape career.

To be spending ~1 hour a day or more on this game and not pay $5 a month is ridiculous; either you are too young to be playing or really need to get a job. F2P works twice as hard because F2P is a trial version of the real game. F2P is not how Jagex intends Runescape to be played.
