  1. I love all of wyndhams stuff Its just so epic, its rare to find other novels which deal with science fiction"what if" topics on such a global scale. I liked day of the triffids but i loved the chrysalids, web and the krakers. I have thoroughly read herbert, asimov, card and frank but i would recommend wyndham above them all especially the chrysalids: timeless
  2. I love it when i go out and dont remember what i did and the next day my friends tell me that i did some funny [cabbage]. then i check my bank balance nad i only spent like 10 bucks! 99% of the time i go out. do heaps of dumb [cabbage] im embarrassed about and spend heaps of money I like TIF lurking and warm beds I shower at night
  3. i read an old, old article once which said the same thing. that once you gain a mortgage you are unable to rebel against the system because you are forever in the banks (something like 40 years) debt and forced to accept the status quo. The American (capitalist) dream still exists but its bloody hard to achieve and available to a small percentage

    Abstinence

Being a training health teacher i can let you guys know that the curriculum (across the globe) is tending towards a biological and a feelings approach where its natural to feel physical attraction and the feelings are hard to deny. Start when you want but just be very aware of the many possible negative outcomes that bad decision making can lead to. I worked at a holiday programme where a 9 year old would often come to 'class' hungover and having had sex. Consequence education at an early age is the onlky answer.

  7. I came across this map which I found interesting, it shows countries dollar growth from 1975 to 2002. Everything was as expected, South America and Africa shrunk while the US and Japan grew, Europe was stable. Except I could barely see Canada. Perhaps some helpful Canadian TIFer can help me by explaining what Canada was doing (or not doing) for this to occur [hide=world map by dollar growth 1975-2002][/hide] Obviously the countries with more people grew a lot (China, India and Russia) and South Korea and Japan look ready to explode but I thought Canada was reasonably prosperous
  8. [hide=riddle 2]In the second one do they decide that if the 3rd person doesnt answer in say 30 seconds than the 2nd person knows that his hat colour is different to that of the person in front of him i.e: XXO (person 3 knows he must have an O hat) OX? (person 3 doesnt answer immediately so person 2 knows their hat is a different colour to person 1 I apologize for my inability to effectively articulate what i mean[/hide]
  9. You missed an opportunity to pettily insult him by saying "robert detestable". Tisk tisk. I wouldn't own slaves. Slavery is no different than the control of the wealthy over the less fortunate. In fact, it pretty much is the fuedal system, but with more degradation. And far worse than factories, obviously. Unstable?
  10. When I was in the states I worked with a south african brother sister team. Their father owned a vineyard and they lived through apartheid and its absolution. They were nice people (especially to our ecuadorian bosses) but honestly found it difficult to come to terms with why slavery is illegal. Its one of those things where if you grow up and its normal, you take it for granted. As for your question though, not in a million years. in b4 that robert destable guy ruins it
  11. My (last night's) taxi driver said that alot of people will kill themselves so they can die on the same day as MJ :?
  12. [hide=the mighty subaru rex][/hide] This was my first car. It has 660cc's (0.6L) so that it legally doesnt need 5 seatbelts for the 5 seats. It redlines at about 8000rpm and 80k.
  13. Wow, that is a bad boy, id expect at least an extra couple of inches with that Are we allowed to post such things?
  14. Actually, not at all, if you decide to adopt 3rkid's point of view, like I have. Dying just means you learn the answer to one of the most disputed questions ever. Does it count as a discovery if the answer is nothingness? Seems like a bit of a waste then
  15. Just because I didn't go to a class or website like eHow's "How to Make Headshots" doesn't mean I have no idea what I'm talking about or that my opinion is worth nothing. Your eyes are not green, they are brown. And if they are green, you broke rule 1. Your eyes say nothing to me except that you might have some asian in you and/or that there is probably a bright light behind the camera You've got a "degree" in the "profession"? Enlighten me haha One of the most influential and powerful businesses in the world? Name me one election that has been substantially influenced by acting. Will Smith made the most money as an actor in 2008. He made $80 million. Have you ever heard of Lawrence Ellison? Well he's an executive at Oracle (do you know what Oracle is?) and he made $550 million last year. And that's just one other business. Here's some more that are more influential: Oil & Gas Operations Software & Services Consumer Durables Food, Drink & Tobacco Materials Household & Personal Products Retailing Telecommunications Services Banking Drugs & Biotechnology Construction Financials Utilities Technology Hardware & Equip Insurance Aerospace & Defense All of those businesses have enormous amounts more influence than "acting", politically and socially... and I simply got tired of listing them but I could go on. Seriously dude you need to get over yourself ("clearly I've got something.."). If you want to make it in "the business" you are going to need to take criticism frequently and without the opportunity to respond to it. You look like you are very young but then you have a crustache. Your ears are elf-like, your eyebrows need to be plucked, you need to gain weight, and you should go outside every once in a while. Did you just eat a sour warhead, too? That's my opinion, of course.. this whole post is Criticize me or my picture personally if you want, but realize I'm not putting myself out there open to it. Not to mention, though, since I care about my body, I could get probably get farther in the business from that alone as a model, but I wouldn't degrade myself like that (or is that a different business? If so, are they also one of the most influential in the world?) are you guys cereal?
  16. Sorry about the bump but I just stumbled on this and had to share [hide=Inés Ramírez]nes Ramírez Pérez is a peasant woman living in rural Mexico. She speaks Zapotec and some Spanish. She had no medical training, but nevertheless performed a successful Caesarean section on herself: both she and her baby survived. Ramírez was alone in her cabin in Rio Talea, Southern Mexico on when her labour started. The nearest midwife was more than 50 miles away over rough terrain and rough roads. Her husband, who had assisted her through her previous labours, was drinking at a cantina. Rio Talea has 500 people and only one phone, but it was not nearby. Ramírez had given birth to eight children, seven living, at the time of the pregnancy in question. The last pregnancy, three years prior, had ended in fetal death during labor. Rather than experience the loss of another child in the same way, Ramírez decided to operate on herself. At midnight, on 5 March 2000 after 12 hours of continual pain and little advancement in labour, Ramírez sat down on a bench, drank from either a bottle of rubbing alcohol or "3 small glasses of hard liquor" (accounts vary), and assumed the traditional Zapotec birthing position, sitting up and leaning forward. She then used a large kitchen knife to cut open her abdomen in a total of three attempts. Ramírez cut through her skin in a 17 cm vertical line several centimeters to the right of her navel, starting near the bottom of the ribs and ending near the pubic area. (For comparison: a typical C-section incision is 10 cm long, horizontal and well below the navel, the so-called "bikini-line incision".) After operating on herself for an hour, she reached inside her uterus and pulled out her baby boy, who breathed and cried immediately. She then severed the umbilical cord with a pair of scissors and became unconscious. When she regained consciousness, she wrapped clothes around her bleeding abdomen and asked her 6-year-old son, Benito, to run for help. Several hours later, the village health assistant found Ramírez alert and lying beside her live baby. He sewed her incision with an available needle and thread. Ramírez was eventually taken to the local clinic, two and a half miles away, and then to the nearest hospital, eight hours away by car. Sixteen hours thereafter she underwent surgical repair of the incision site. On the seventh post-operative day, she underwent a second surgery to repair complications resulting from damage to her intestines incurred during her C-section. She was released from the hospital on the tenth day post-surgery, and went on to make a complete recovery. Describing her experience, Ramírez said, I couldnt stand the pain anymore. If my baby was going to die, then I decided I would have to die, too. But if he was going to grow up, I was going to see him grow up, and I was going to be with my child. I thought that God would save both our lives. Ramírez is believed to be the only woman known to have performed a successful caesarean section on herself. Her case was written up in the March 2004 issue of the International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is also believed to have been profoundly lucky in several ways: to have put herself in the position she chose, which put her uterus rather than her intestines against the abdominal wall under the incision site; to have not succumbed to infection from the large open wound in a non-sterile environment; to have not passed out from the pain part-way through, or died from shock; and, if her drink of choice was indeed isopropyl alcohol, to have drunk a sub-lethal amount of it. She did say, afterward, that she didn't advise other women to follow her example, and medical doctors have said the chance of survival would be 0.0% despite this rare successful attempt.[/hide]

    Living

I used to read/watch heaps of sci fi when I was a kid and I honestly believed that by 2010 all our houses would have retractable holes in the walls were food would come out and you could put garbage in etc. I also believed there would be space exploration and a whole lot of other kickass, everyday applications of science. that gives me at least a year and a half to see if that comes true

  19. ...and since its been shut down im not aware of any similar sites from which I can convert youtube songs to mp3. I dont really want to have to download anything, if you could please post here or just PM me, thanks P.S I know its illegal
  20. What instrument? Guitar, there are tons of other songs that are much harder. Drums, there are tons of other songs that much harder. yep, guitar, I wanted to know if it was comparable with other hard songs
  21. I finally finished flirting with disaster (expert) on RB1 I dont really get into gaming as much as others so I haven't had the opportunity to play GHWT or other GH/band games. Can anyone who has played it, and other games like it, tell me if Flirting with disaster (definitely my crowning achievement because it took me ages) is comparable with other songs/games. cheers
  22. Isnt it amazing that in todays 'information age' it can still take a whole country over 60 years to catch up with such major advances in technology
  23. This sucks. Let's trim our hair in accordance with the socialist lifestyle What do you think would happen if the states disarmed all of their nuclear weapons or even all of their military?
  24. I agree with this. I honestly wouldnt mind giving 50% of my earnings to the government in exchange for the security of knowing that all medical bills were free, education (right through to tertiary) was free and I could rely on the government if a family member (or myself) fell ill or pregnant or jobless
