Wikipedia fallacies
Yep, grammatical errors and general anachronisms are the only things I've really ever seen to fix on the "old" articles you ask for, hence why I posted the new articles.

Wikipedia fallacies
Bravo to all of the previous posters' reading comprehension skillz! Anyways, if you're looking for hilariously bare or just plain wrong Wikipedia articles, look at the "Newest Editions" page.

Gold Standard
Gold is a valuable resource, why the hell would we lock all of it up in a fortress somewhere? Our current standard is much more practical. If you really wanted a standard, I'm sure geologists could suggest a different rare but not-precious material to use.

Coldest Winter Ever?
Not the coldest here in North Carolina, but we've had more snow than the 13 years I've been living here. Recent snowfalls: 11 inches, 2 inches, 8 inches, 2 inches, 1 inch. I'm loving it.

Is death a topic that should be joked about?
Who cares? If you're with an objective moralist or someone who is very sensitive about it then obviously refrain.

The last thing you wish you didn't eat.
Tell, we have time. When I say "long story", it's not that I have any sort of aversion to long posts; rather, it's usually because it's incriminating or emotionally painful to divulge. Sorry. I'll give you a hint though: combustion.

The last thing you wish you didn't eat.
About four ounces of gasoline when I was 12. Long story, ended up puking it up.

Why is this tolerated?
Serious prejudice against Americans is fine. It's just a way to let the human washouts rise to the top and publicly display their ignorancethis goes for any kind of prejudice. I get the same kind of entertainment watching neo-Nazi's spewing pseudo-scientific theories on eugenics as I get watching the Jerry Springer show.

Our Future Professions
Being a junior in high school, I've been thinking a lot about careers I will pursue in the future. I know most of the TIF community hasn't started post-high school education, so I though this would be appropriate (although this thread has probably been made before). What do you want to do when you grow up and what are you going to do to get there? If you already have a profession or invested a large amount of time on a track to a career, feel free to say how you got there, or if you could go back in time what career you would choose over your current one. Personally... [hide]Personally I've been thinking about careers such as neurology, pathology, anesthesiology, and urology, along with non-medical fields such as astronomy, evolutionary biology, astrophysics, cosmology, philosophy & theology (yes, I'd be a hobo), and always flirt with ideas of entrepreneurship and inventions. How I will realize my career will be a somewhat lack of social life in college, shutting myself in, keeping academics the focal point of my very existence, and probably even to a greater extreme in graduate/medical school. Anyways, as you can see by the large variety of my prospect careers, I'm still totally undecided, and may very well end up with a career not even listed.[/hide]

Create your own dream fast food place
My ideal fast food restaurant would have a large assortment of oatmeals & granolas, Merlots, pickled vegetables, smoked fish, raw chili peppers, chewing gum, and submarine sandwiches. Oh, and your meal would be free if you eat all of that on a single platter.

Favorite thing about the opposite sex?
I hope you're joking, or maybe you meant to say that the best thing that they can do for you is sex? If you can really boil down the human race (or half of it) to a measly carnal desire, I think your view on humanity is even more hopeless than mine.

Favorite thing about the opposite sex?
Mental handicaps and obesity are my biggest turnons, maybe even a missing limb or two. <3: Not all guys are the same, stop trying to homogenize guys' tastes and minds with your blanket statements!

Favorite thing about the opposite sex?
Tripsis, it's pretty hard to stray away from physical attributes since you can't really generalize an entire sex with non-physical descriptions. I tried, but then I thought about a number of girls who didn't have personality X or temperance Y. Breasts are alright, but for me the my favorite parts about the female anatomy would have to be their voices, legs, bottom, and hands. I don't pay attention to eyes at all, and actually can't even recall the color eyes of my own mother.

Want to be Smarter?
On the topic of brain science, one area has recently perked my interest—neurogenesis. While up until the 1990's it was believed by neurologists that neurons, or "brain cells", do not regenerate after early childhood, this was recently disproved. People came to this early hypothesis by simply looking around them—seeing bright young minds contrast their demented and aged counterpart lying in beds of nursing homes while watching infomercials in piles of their own excrement. Two and two were put together and it was deduced that over time one's braincells progressively depopulate, with maybe a few million measly neurons by age 90. While this original hypothesis holds much truth, its premise underestimated the regenerative properties of our brains. And while it might be true that overtime the number of neurons in our brain decrease, it is not true that our neuron population is at its highpoint the second we pop out of our mother's womb. Relatively recently we have discovered in lab mice that new neurons are created well into adulthood. And mice adhering to specific lifestyles, diets, or activities fostered this regeneration much higher than their regular counterparts. What has been scientifically proven, however, is the direct and very noticeable benefits that exercise, low caloric diets, sufficient sleep, stress levels, among other things can aid the regeneration of neurons and in-turn make people smarter. While neurogenesis is a fairly newly discovered phenomenon, I believe that eventually medical science will be able to stimulate the regeneration artificially, potentially making the overall gene pool more intelligent, getting rid age-caused mental illness such as Alzheimer's disease, and making you smarter. Human umbilical cords and other stem cell research is already giving positive results for lab mice, so who knows what the future will bring.

For those wondering why men have nipples.
People don't only use ten percent of their brains. This misconception is derived from the fact that 10% of your neurons are firing at a given moment in time, or that 10% of the brain's volume is neurons.
