I agree with that; however, there might be a way to make personal choice work -- I have no idea what it might be, but it is something to think about. If someone can find it, great -- if not, we have the best system we can come up with right now. I think we can agree on this much: high alch value is the best system we currently know of. If there's a way to make personal choice work without being so unwieldy, then I can't think of who wouldn't like it, making it a better system, but if there isn't a way, then what we have is still a very good system.

I think having the players be able to have the option to choose what items are saved on death is the best possible system. There can be an option in the Items Lost on Death screen where you rank your items based on how valuable you conceive them to be. That would be the Utopian model, yes. But I imagine there would be many obstacles to that. There are obstacles -- look at the discussion that compfreak and I had on the last page. The problem is that every time your inventory/equipment changes, there has to be some way to determine what is kept. There are multiple obstacles to overcome and compfreak and I only mentioned a couple of them. Perfect system, yes, but not the best, because there are too many obstacles that must be overcome for it to be viable. If you can overcome all those obstacles, however, you might have a better system.

I wonder here -- did the other person get any blackmarks for that? I don't know if there's a way to answer that, but it seems that their infraction on the rules was more significant than yours, so I wonder if they got blackmarks.

It's the best possible system that Jagex has thought of. There are flaws, and there is probably a way to fix the flaws. Whether by an overhaul of the system or a tweaking of certain parts (raising Armadyl Skirt alch value), these flaws can (probably) be fixed or made less prevalent. Maybe there's a better system that no one has thought of yet or maybe there isn't. Bottom line: This is the best system, but there's probably a way to remove the flaws.

Yes, I calculated them myself and got the same numbers as you. -
74-80 Smithing with Adamant bolts SC Style
Mischlings replied to Dire_Wolf's topic in Help and Advice
To find how many you'll need, 1) Divide the number of bars not using SC hammers by 2 2) Divide the xp needed by 64,000 -
This is a big maybe, but I remember looking through Qeltar's beastopedia and I found this page: http://www.truthscape.com/html/ts_BC008 ... Zombie.htm Apparently, dried Zombies will drop ~9 blue charms an hour, without taking into consideration Salve (e) or a cannon. So, these could potentially be a good source of blue charms, though I haven't tested it and I've never seen these mentioned anywhere else by anyone, so that might be a fluke.

The problem with that is that Jagex has said nothing and likely will say nothing (because, honestly, admitting that giving something to F2P slowed down P2P updates would be one of the dumbest things they could say), therefore we can't rely on Jagex's direct word on how updates have been affected -- saying it slowed things down would make them look bad. Now, let's back up a bit -- why should we automatically assume that updates will stay at the same rate after this? I came back in March from a long hiatus to find that updates were a lot more random and scattered than before, therefore we cannot assume that updates will stay at a consistent rate. They can and do change, so what causes the change? In that case, a different CEO with a different take on running the game. Most likely a larger change than opening up the forums, yes, but if a large change in how the game is run causes a large change in updates, then a small change in how the game is run will cause a small change in updates. At the same time, can we automatically assume that updates will change in frequency? Not necessarily, as the huge overhaul at the end of 2007 didn't seem to slow down updates much, if at all -- before, during, and after, the updates were pretty steady at the rate of about 1 a week. Now that I've proven that we can't really assume either side to be correct by default, the burden of proof isn't on one side, but on both. And at risk of sounding biased and like a fanboy (I'm not, I don't always agree with him), Compfreak has done a hell of a lot better at proving his side of the argument. Where do I stand on this? I don't really care -- I don't need more updates, as I'm already so far behind that Jagex could go a month or more with no new updates and I'd still be catching up.

Look at the drums. The first drum part is almost identical in both; in fact, I think tempo is the only difference in the pattern. Also, am I the only one glad there isn't more Slayer in the GH/RB games? Raining Blood and War Ensemble are enough to kill me. Sure, I love Slayer (who doesn't?) but they just destroy my wrists. Is there a name for those notes in WT and Metallica that you have to strum/hammer on during a sustain? Those [bleep] with my mind completely, probably because I'm too used to GH3 and RB2. Also, who else was completely thrown off by open strums? I'll jump into the group of people who prefer Rock Band to Guitar Hero, though I think Rock Band needs slide sections (I don't have a strat, so don't suggest the solo buttons).

And there are instances of, say, rune chain keeping over Armadyl Skirt. (The simpler solution would be to raise the alch value of the Armadyl skirt, but of course, since I'm arguing for the system I proposed for the sake of argument, this is evidence for a more complex flaw) The system would have to keep track of 4 items (protect item prayer). I'd say that it would default to the highest alch value, or, if you've bumped an item out of the top three, to the last one bumped out of the top 3. (Again, remember that I'm working with a very rough idea here) At the same time, monster hunting is where the most complaints come from. Again, more kinks that 5 minutes didn't fix completely. That is probably true -- remember, I don't particularly like the idea myself. You're welcome -- I prefer mature debates. I've tried to follow the "Slayer sucks" debate, but it drives me insane -- I stuck through 35 pages then skipped to the end because the overall stubbornness (from all sides) and unwillingness to budge on many points drove me up the wall.

For the sake of pointing it out (I love playing Devil's Advocate), a person can't really take responsibility if they lose a drop gained during the trip as they can't really predict the value of what will be dropped. Under my proposed system, they could choose to protect that item and therefore would be responsible for not keeping it. I also don't think that it would change every time your inventory changes -- how often is a drop worth more than what you already have? Multiple times a trip? Then damn, I want your luck. If you drop an item to make room for another, how valuable would that item be to you? I'm not dropping Bandos plate to pick up a hilt until I have enough room for the plate -- I'm dropping a potion, which wouldn't be in the top three items I'd keep. That said, I'm not sure how much I like my idea in the first place. The system currently in place works pretty damn well. If my system were to be implemented, I think it'd be best as a setting in certain areas or only when you specifically choose it -- for normal, non-monster hunting situations, this won't matter much, so maybe if this only applied to certain situations, it could work. Again, I'm not sure that I like my idea all that much -- I was coming up with something for the sake of coming up with an idea that wouldn't be immediately dismissed as bad.

Most valuable item that you accidentally high alched?
Mischlings replied to Pinkbullet3's topic in Questionnaires
I'm very careful about alching. However, I've just barely missed alching a Saradomin Godsword so many times when on slayer tasks. -
I actually came up with the on/off thing when thinking "What if you accidentally click to protect the wrong item?" -- this way, you only change which ones you keep when you explicitly choose to. And there are already rants from people losing drops and such -- this way, you can say to them "It's your own damn fault" because they didn't do what they could to keep it. I'm one of those who believes that people should take responsibility for their own mistakes; if you have the ability to keep an item like that and don't, that's your fault, I don't want to hear your complaining. I'm trying to think of how to cut down on the clutter, but as of right now, I don't have any idea of how else you could do it without opening an interface that would interfere with combat.

I would consider having something you can turn on/off like the Assist on/off at the bottom of the screen (not sure where to put it) -- if you have this option toggled off, the Keep-# options wouldn't appear in the right click menu. I'd add the Keep-# to the equipment page as well. I came up with this about two minutes before my last post, so it's imperfect. I appreciate you pointing out the flaws -- maybe I could make it into something that works.

Someone said that the problem with pre-selecting is that if you get an armadyl hilt, you might lose it to, say, a granite shield. Here's my idea: pre-select the three items you keep on death, but you can change them on the fly. Example: I go to solo Bandos and choose to protect Tassets, Karils top, and Godsword (not optimal equipment, I get it, just bear with me). Before I go, I rank the three items: Godsword Tassets Karils top Then I go and got a hilt drop. When right clicking the hilt, I get the options "Keep-1" "Keep-2" and "Keep-3". That makes that drop your #1, 2, or 3 protected item, pushing the rest down one. That way, you can select the three items and adjust them on the fly. I'll work out the kinks in it when I have more time for the flaws to be found.

I have forgotten: Hammer at bandos, Spade at barrows & more!
Mischlings replied to pipeelbakan's topic in Questionnaires
I know I've posted before, but when I first posted, this was only about spade at barrows. I have forgotten a spade at barrows. I have forgotten hammer AND teletab at Bandos (two separate times) I have forgotten glory charges many times while runecrafting, also forgetting essence, forgetting to fill up my pouches, forgetting to use super energy potions. I have forgotten ropes to get to KQ. I have forgotten anti-fire shield at iron dragons (teleported after the first 30 was hit). I know there are more, I just cannot think of them off the top of my head. -
I've found 12 to be the sweet spot. It doesn't take all that long, and you're getting more runes. With less than 12, there are a lot fewer runes, and therefore runs aren't as profitable. 6 or 7 is stupid, to be completely honest, as you won't even get bolt racks or blood runes with that many kills, losing a lot of potential profit.

16M what to spend it on or save? Edit-DFS good to buy?
Mischlings replied to edard's topic in Help and Advice
No, the minimum healing for a spec is 10, and if you hit a 0, you might not get anything (I've been there enough times). Also, 1/4th of the damage you do is added to prayer, though usually you can't use just that for superhuman strength, you'll need a few prayer potions, but it is quite useful. -
high level monsters to range with 73+ range?
Mischlings replied to EGmaestro's topic in Help and Advice
hm that might make it kinda difficult with my low prayer and defence.. Bring a Saradomin item and a Zamorak item. Pray Protect From Range. Don't let your prayer run out. It's not difficult -- you just need to pay some attention. -
If you haven't before, read this: http://truthscape.com/html/ts_TruthScap ... forExp.htm You don't have to follow his methods to the letter (I don't), but the amount of information in this guide is simply amazing. There is a lot of strategy and such discussed in there, a lot of which should help you at some level.

You get 3-4 chests per trip with that setup? That's pretty good with that, but I think there are definitely improvements that can be made. Okay, here are my suggestions: Replace Rune Plate with Torag Ditch the crossbow and melee Ahrim -- with your stats, he won't be a problem. Also, the vambraces aren't really needed, since the difference in bonuses between them and the rune gloves is minimal -- they're just something else to lose if you die. Use Ring of Life instead of Warrior Ring. You won't notice the change in stats and it very well could save you quite a bit of money. Bring a LOT less runes per trip -- I bring 100 casts for single chest trips and about 300 if I plan on staying longer in case the chest is slow at giving me more. Use a god cape instead of Legends Bring another prayer potion or two -- makes getting rid of Karil and Ahrim a lot simpler. Those are just a few -- you don't have to do any of those, I just think that they would help. If they don't fit what you want to do, that's okay. The great thing about Barrows is that a lot of different methods all work pretty well.

16M what to spend it on or save? Edit-DFS good to buy?
Mischlings replied to edard's topic in Help and Advice
The Devil's Advocate in me says that the DFS has a +7 strength bonus that would be more helpful than +5 from the defender against some monsters with low defence. Also, for some tasks that you cannon, since it isn't your meleeing that's doing most of the damage, the defence bonuses would help prevent damage, making it more useful than the defender. Yet the 20+ slash bonus helps alot. When cannoning you usually are praying. DFS is useless and rune defender is better. You have this amazing ability to miss the point, and this belief that you can end an argument with the equivalent of "I said so". For some monsters, their defence is so low that +20 attack will barely affect how often you hit, so the additional strength bonus will be more helpful. For cannoning, it can depend on the monster -- Aberrants, you definitely pray, but for, say, dagannoths or kalphites, you don't pray and the defence bonuses will help you eat less -- the attack bonus won't be missed as it's the cannon doing the vast majority of the work. And don't forget Skeletal Wyverns. DFS is a huge help there. Rune defender is better in the vast majority of cases, but there are situations in which the DFS is useful. -

At 47, you'll probably lose money at ZMI. If you don't care, use ZMI. If you do care, craft natures until 60, at which point you start to break even at ZMI. At that point, ZMI is the best if you don't care about anything more than breaking even.

I hate to hijack, but this is a fitting question for this thread: Is whip better at all levels, or is there a certain attack level at which whip becomes better? (Read: is using a whip better at 90 attack, my level?)
