As far as I'm concerned you must have a serious lack of parenting and communication skills if you must hit someone much weaker than you to either gain respect or get your point across. That method also teaches that if you want something done then use violence, and where does that get us? Might as well beat your spouse if they do something out of line :roll: No that method teaches "I've told you 5 times to stop climbing onto everything, you didn't stop and you got punished" Seriously were you never hit as a child for being bad? It's not like you punch them in the face or anything just smack their [wagon] a little and make them sit in a corner for 5 minutes and when you progress into your teenage years 5 minutes turn into weeks/months. This method has taught me to listen to adults when they tell you to do something. I think they should bring back the paddle in schools -.- Why not just sit in the corner for 5 minutes? Why 'smack your kids [wagon] a little' aswell? I was never hit by my mother and I still listened to her eventually. Most parents just don't have the patience. because 99.9% of children have a "Oh big deal, she's not going to do anything to me except put me in a corner" mentality. The hitting will make the child not want to be hit again, thus will try harder not to do what got him in trouble. How does a kid compare it to anything worse when you haven't done anything like that to the kid before? Standing in the corner might be taken as worse as getting hit, by a kid who has never been hit before. If you don't give it anything to compare the kid sumply can't. Also, standing in the corner is often very effective in combination with talking to the kid why you've punished it that way and what shouldn't be done next time. You should watch one of those programs about raising kids, you know, when the professional comes over to teach desperate helpless, children hitting parents to do it the right and effective way. Hit the child, make them stand in corner, talk to them about what they did. All 3 work well when put together. Hitting them shows dominance which a parent must have, having time-out is the punishment, and talking to them afterwards makes them understand what they did wrong and why not to do it again.
