Hi after an absense of several months (I got put off by the idea of no new content..) I decided to my quest up to par again: just finished the chosen commander today and I've been wondering something: is the zanik's crossbow actually a good alternative for the rune crossbow - If I only use broad bolts that is? Also on another note: what happened to mobilizing armies? - It was supposed to come out several months ago but got postponed again... Is it completely scrapped now?

works fine for me

Harsh, but I lol'd. fail, hehe. It does say in the terms and conditions there are no refunds if you get banned. Sigh: and it also says that the terms can never be higher than the local player's laws: and -at least in the netherlands- the law is that you GET a refund: so if that player wants he could always force a refund...

Well 2 months from now my rs subscription comes out: If mechscape has arrived (or announced) I doubt I'll update the subscription again.. (looking now: I haven't logged in to runescape for 3 weeks already).

17th March 2009 - The Chosen Commander|Route-finding Update
pulli23 replied to Sentry_Wolf's topic in General Discussion
So this should be worth the wait? Sigh I found even wanted! quest more fun... Also: If that confirmation screen is what I think it is, then I would hate that: its a terrible programming practice.. That alone would make me quit rs again - or at least, refrain from playing untill enough good content is added.... taken from here I haven't seen it yet though. But instead they should use a Toast or infobar -
What's the deal with hacking nowadays?
pulli23 replied to bronzewarrior's topic in General Discussion
please refrain from talking in discussions you have no knowlenge about! - It makes you (probably correctly, but that aside) look dumb! mcAffee is still known as a very decent Anti-virus program: it catches most viri and worms! Really and there's a huge difference between hacking and account scamming: account scamming is "legal" (at least according to the law, but morally not): the victim told the scammer his information in some way! Hacking is when the victim doesn't do anything related on purpose, yet the account is compromised! Really keylogging a pin is "just as easy" as keylogging a simple password: the only difference is that the program to hack has to be written especially for runescape (you can't use a generic keylogger). And it has a much larger memory/cpu footer (instead of simply watching for keyboard input it has to watch for mouse input, listen to program output, copying the datastream). - But with nowadays quad core processors you would hardly notice that! Ow btw: bruteforce cracking hardly ever happens nowadays: you probably won't ever notice this, but runescape (as most other programs) have pretty good protection against it! (IE: if it notices you're doing too many attempts in exactly the right time, it blocks your IP, and informs your ISP). Also as for passwords: there used to be 1 major flaw in the runescape password recovery center: I could get my pass with only providing this information: -4 old passwords -some tragi-comical talk about how you lost your account -date last log in All which are (if you're hacked once) easy to get for a hacker! Not sure if it still works though. -
Info on different money-making methods: Cash per hour?
pulli23 replied to Seogege's topic in Help and Advice
Greatly overestimated lol that 5K.. I've been doing a lot of nature tests already: and it's (doubling from what I get now at single nats) about 4.5-5K if I go at top-speed! - A more "normal" calculation would be 3-4K/hour graahking: faster is simply too much attention-demanding! @compfreak847: I doubt those numbers really! - I know they're actually very good, but I think even for maxed stats it'll turn out to be around 400-500k/hour. -
Do lightness clothes help when under 0kg already?
pulli23 replied to Metu's topic in Help and Advice
As an avit runecrafter I can confirm this is true: 0 kg to -14 kg all have the same "energy reduction".. However if you wield some heavy armour: of course the spottier cape helps then. On the other hand if you wield nothing, even the boots are useless! (well apart from the small extra defence). -
When two or more people are on the same square discussion
pulli23 replied to shootingstar5's topic in General Discussion
Generally these things are programmed by id: whoever has the smallest ID is being handled first, so he is "under" the one with a larger id.. (that's the normal way how to process "users" in games).. Now what determines the ID? - I believe it are session id's (again this would be most logical: player ID's wouldn't have any use apart from this, so they're probably not used.. Session ID on the other hand are values which have to be there anyway, as the server has to know "who's online" - note that the session ID changes when you log in/out). Now the biggest question to me seems: how are session id's handled: normally one would just increase the ID by 1 everytime someone new joins.. However for an MMO there are lots and lots of people leaving, joining etc. Easily surpassing the limits from an integer after a few weeks... So they'll have to be resetted: but that means no one could log in for infinite time.. Or they have to be "clever" numbers: filling up gaps as people leave.. But basically what I'm trying to say is: the order is depending on the "time" you logged in! -
I'm not sure how dynamic caps would help or hurt the situation, but basing prices on uncompleted offers would make it possible to lower the price of an item when it's selling for max. People could just put in massive buy offers for the min price for decent items (gs, claws, etc) and lower the price without spending anything. And then there would be people who would crash markets just for [cabbage] and giggles. Uhm of course it shouldn't work like that: Lowering should only happen if there's unspent stock, while raising should only happen if there's too little stock in the GE.. Most of the time! So yes you would theoritically be able to "fake rise" the price of something.. However that would require total control over the market (since as soon as there would be 1 other person who sells the item, you would simply loose a lot of money). I admit this won't fix prices that are "struck": however it will make the GE for healthy items to move faster, more accurate (instead of lagging behind the actually street price for 4-5 market cycles it will only lag for a maximum of 1 market cycle).. And thus prevent the GE from growing out of control, creating new items that can't be sold/bought.

Educative purposes? You know, apart from administrative problems from managing a large userbase, a private server allows you to actually modify the code and look what the actual changes are... This is simply the best way to learn a programming language! Yes, but that is also copyright infringement. If you wanna learn JRE code or any other, your best bet w/o getting sued is trial and error. Just trial and error is really not the right way lol.. It's good for basement-self-teached programmers, but if you want to achieve anything more, and actually get a job it's not going to bring you there. You'll need to look at other code, lots of code (on top of reading books, writing essays etc).. Really code-jamming is one of the things computer science at university level hardly does. (While looking at others code, finding the bad points, explaining the code etc is the best way.. And JAVA is used a lot as teaching purposes since it's a strong typed language, good OO, interpreted, and easy to debug.. But then again, you'll probably have enough reading material only looking at opensource stuff. Ow I just thought of a reason why I would love to use a private (or at least specific) server: "competitions"... Look at arena scape for example: the most fun were the special competitions. Runescape is really moving into a generic direction, and the call for "on the user specialized content" will only grow. What I can think about are disabling lots of areas, and then make a classic "mine" contest (who can get with least hours spent most xp). Or actually allow for the KBD to randomly spawn/walk to certain areas (this is something I've always wanted: make RS dangerous to adventure). Or it allows you to skip a certain update: in normal programs if you don't like a certain feature, you'll stay with the old version: I am for example still using an old FF since I don't like the way how tabs work in V3 - the advantages don't weigh up to this for me. Or what do you think about VISTA vs XP? - I doubt anyone would willingly go for vista if you can also use XP. Yet in runescape you can't stick to what you liked, and just skip an update. (Though since it's an MMO it's kind of not strange).. But people who don't like an update WILL find a way to get around it, and private servers are a good alternative! Ow and stop saying it's failure to play on a private server! - I'm programming games myself (and even release a few MO's for my close friends). They're worse than any RS version is/was (I don't have a full team backening me up), so you're actually saying I would "fail" for that? Thanks!

That was an ironic intentional 'mistake', right? Do you merchant much? If you do, you'd realize that potential worth can be FAR more then previous values; opulent tables soared to 35 times their 'actual value' when this happened to them. Despite the fact that they were obtainable for 1m, they were selling for over 3.5. All items like this are kicked into high demand because of it. Sorry, but "sorrie" is the Dutch word for "sorry" so it was an honest type mistake, sorry. (and now I"ve said enough sorry already). - Don't be such a nitpick, really there are many benefits to not live by the piont of the law! And that also counts for searching "things against the rules" in forums, nobody benefits from such a discussion and hijacking of a thread. Really you've shown that you're pretty clever, but with such behaviour as I see in this post now I can't help but think that you're an immature frustrated little kid who whines for attention/power! I indeed don't merchent much, but such potential worth might grow higher, but it's like an air bubble: one day it will break at once.. (though I admit that day can only happen if the market is loosened). But still my question stands: what good is there in this drop, market restriction from jagex.... Really can't anyone bring up an original reason? Uhm what? See my previous post, I believe you worship all JAGEX actions??
-
Actually, it's given a shot in the arm to the market value. We now have an opulent table situation, I wish I had a few thousand myself. Sorrie, but that's just stupid... You know, you had to buy them earlier: so you would've "spent" money to get them.. (or actually spent potentional money). Now they're worth more than the ge price (But only potentialy): but they won't ever be worth much more than the original price. - Probably a little bit indeed (since less people now collect bird meats), but nothing too much... SO in the end you just spent real money into potentional money, and a bad potential money source (a source you can't 1 to 1 exchange for real money). But beside that point, can't anyone ever think about any reason that could've been good? Really, this is embarassing, the only reasons to justify this are "jagex says so, jagex is almighty god who I worship, so it must be good." Sorry I don't believe in gods.......

All rants are discussions, some discussions are rants. Because it should be locked as a duplicate. Wow I'm really, really wondering how old you are now... "I demand this thread to be locked, cause the topic I don't like and I've seen something similar already" - Just say that! - But a few things: he's not whining, and it's the correct form to start a discussion: First describe the problem, then give your opinion, then arguments for your opinion.. Nothing strange there, no personal, or other bad arguments either. - What makes it distinct from a rant? The fact that he gives reasons as to why something should be changed, and because the topic starter says so: Rants and discussions are almost always interchangebale, it's just what the topic started wants to achieve with the topic! (An open discussion to draw a conclusion wether something is bad/good, or a one sided opinion with which others can agree/disagree, but nobody would change the topic starter's opinion anyways). Now back to the actual topic: Well I've always really, really been frustated at these price ceilings/floors, and actually can't find any valid reason for these: ie in the time someone would get the junk, he could also do another skill and TRAIN+get money faster at the same rate. (for example at 91 rc I would've been able to spend 200 gp / raw bird to play even. (when saying "buying at the ge takes 0 time"). - Why shouldn't I be able to pay someone for that? Same with harpoons (and actually most other things: the time needed to travel somewhere for an item is often waay to much).
-
What I think should be done is "dynamic caps": instead of saying you can buy X y times in 4 hours, wouldn't this work better? You can buy up to 2.5% + 1 of the previous day's total trade every day. - So for example coal you can buy 250K daily... Yet godswords (etc) which are trade only like 1000 daily you can buy 26 daily... This limit would prevent any person to completely control the market.. Also Ge shouldn't be based on completed offers, but instead also based on the incomplete offers: THIS, is the basic that causes why those manipulator clans work, and THIS is the reason why GE prices get stuck! I never ever sawa reason to base it on completed offers: heck I wrote (in pseudo code) already a way how to calculate accurate prices.. Yet no one ever seems to actually listen...

Will 'We' Cause the 'Downfall of Runescape'?
pulli23 replied to IMSecure's topic in General Discussion
*sigh* so we should all be mindless sheeps and don't be critical towards the rules? If jagex says jumping from a building is good would you do? Really, JAGEX could simply build their own RWT structure, and make it even a supported part of the game! -
Will 'We' Cause the 'Downfall of Runescape'?
pulli23 replied to IMSecure's topic in General Discussion
Because it's cheating... Uhm and who says it's cheating? Really this is just a circular argument it's bad because it is bad.... Really arguing with that makes no sense at all. Look at another very popular game: second life, that really BUILD around buying goods ingame with real life money! - And it's pretty succesfull, and I haven't heard of any problems ever with it. (though it's not my type of game...) I can think of a reason why it's bad alraedy: the high scores wouldn't really show dedication, but instead someone with huge amounts of money would be able to get himself up fast. - However then the question arises, what is the goal of this game? - Is it to rank yourself as high as possible (if that's the goal then indeed, RWT is a bad thing from principles already).. Or should the focus be more minded towards the actual GAMEPLAY? (in which case RWT can only be good, since it prevents doing things you think is boring, while it allows for others to do it still)... This could actually make an interesting debate.... -
Will 'We' Cause the 'Downfall of Runescape'?
pulli23 replied to IMSecure's topic in General Discussion
Uhm, I just fail to see how buying things with real life money is bad? I mean, it spoils only the fun for those who buy the items! ow and to your responses: 1. Uhm proxies? - I can easily change my ip from european to american by the click of 1 button! - This would result in many false possitives. (and it's much better to let 100 rwters slip than ban 1 innocent person). 2. IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO DO SO! - How long till people actually realize blizzard didn't sue RWTers, but only the ADVERTISMENT in the game? - Also not everybody lives in lands where it's so easy to sue people like the US (and parts of europe). - Why do you think most RWT companies have their main central based in asian countries? - The laws there are much different (in some areas much more strictly, but in this case too lenient to sue somebody). 3. dynamic IP's, actually most people change their IP (at least last 2 parts) of the IP address everytime they reconnect to the internet. + see point 1.. -
But that wouldn't make it not overpowered, it would just prevent getting it from being too easy/difficult! The STATS are what make something overpowered, and nothing but STATS can solve that!
-
Exactly, like before ge I wouldn't mind spending 3 days to get 1 item, since I could always stand in falador/varrock and ACTIVELY involve in the trading. - Now when I need the item I'm behaving like: logging in, checkign transfers - logging out, next hour: logging in - checking transers, logging out. I can't actively do anything between that time (and if I've set my mind on completing something I can't get myself to do anything else untill that task is completed).. You say there's enough room for either skillers or combat persons: but what about those who like everything once in a while? Really specific armour/skill items you have to trim down on a lot... (And in my case I got a waterfiend task: there the SS IS the best by far). And waiting 2 days is a lot, if you plan to use an item for 1 day (like 1 slayer task) it's 2/3 of the time you're waiting for an item at ge, so a those clans spoil 2/3 of my fun in rs! - Ow and stop saying "use your whip instead".. That means you completely misses the point (which I like) in slayer: slayer is about using the specific armour to hit the monster on it's weak points! - That means you've got to change your outfit for every task. - And that's what I like about slayer (optimizing your outfit for best performance).... The simple problem is that the economy behaves way to unpredictable thanks to these pyramid-type-structures! (there's a reason building such a structure in real life is a crime). - And this makes buying/selling (temporary using an item) just a big gamble! However I don't see any way to solve it.. Other then to organize those clans against each other (so they even each other out) - I tried this a few months ago, but the porblem is that once you get influence people stop being reasonable, and just become greedy!
-
Actually a waving economy is NOT natural: from itself any healthy economic will behave like a damped wave: it will have smaller drops and smaller [bleep]es.. However an economic is also influenced by the outside, and those things give an extra hit to the [bleep]es/drops sometimes.... This keeps an economy waving, however in reality theres a REASON behind waves.. Something won't suddenly drop 20% of it's worth in a week time, in rs those waves are way to much for the casual player.. Take me for example: I had to do a waterfiend task.. Now I can't play a lot, yet my bank is full with random stuff I often need, so I bought a saradomin sword "temporary".. Since I don't play much this task took me 2 weeks. (I only play 1-2 hours a week these days).. And afterwards I wanted to do something else: SS didn't fit on the bank, so I had to sell it... Then I discovered it dropped 2M.. If this happens 20 times I'm out of cash! - And was there any reason for a fast drop? No, just some team decided to drop it.. Ow and please don't tell me to actually "buy at the right moment": since your actually saying that manipulators are bad then. (what is the main reason for bots being bad: it influences the game so people can't as easily skill as they would like too! - This also applies to manipulators: if I have to wait till the market gets low they influence me so that I can't do things I like, when I like!)

Farming Revolution? Will people actually use allotments now?
pulli23 replied to Rahila's topic in General Discussion
I would say: screw strawberries altogether.. Watermelons earn more, can be used as supercompost, and it's only drawback (no storage) is now gone! Do the leprachauns also note logs/fruit-tree harvest/berries/hops? -
Uhm, apart from the fact that strings typed in windows by pressing alt+ uses an extended ascii character set, and actually some (older) keyboards (ie my own dutch keyboard which has an µ sign like above) also still use this set. Only very new/asian keyboards actually use UNICODE! http://www.asciitable.com/ In ascii, 230 = (181 in another version from the extended set, which is used by adding a 0) = µ

[/hide] Easy to get around that tho lol. the thing i notice though, is 'computer adress' not ip, as java runs through your computer, wonder if it can get hold of your computer adress, and if they ban through that, its much harder to get around that ban. But it's probably just their way of saying ip ban. Uhm catching somebodies real MAC address isn't the easiest thing: it's by default not possible in JAVA when you run a program from within a sandbox (the sandbox being firefox). And with routers MAC addresses can be cloned/faked and modified. (though it's not recommended and can lead to crashes). Only thing I'm aware off that really can be static is the processor identifier: and that's only possible to be retrieved with assembly. Don't think anyone at Jagex' headquarters knows ASM enough to use it in a commercial program. -- ow and that fix about µ is exactly what happened before today for the sign! Let's just hope they have dates about who said what: I used the µ sign (as said) a lot some weeks ago.
