  1. While I like events, I don't think celebrating reaching a level with friends could ever deserve the name "party." Either way, I never go to those unless it's a really, really close friend. I mean I'm glad whoever the guy is made it, but honestly I could care less and a "congrats" through a pm is all I need to give. Spending an hour congregating around a guy who's going to advance a level screaming "woohooo you got another level 99!!!" over and over, and over again just isn't my idea of a fun/productive use of my time.
  2. Rules are rules, just use common sense. I didn't immediately read them before playing if memory serves right, but obviously eventually got around to it.
  3. "It's not my fault I'm addicted to rs, it's dopamine!" Nice analysis though. I love reading anything related to psychology, especially tying in this game. I do agree with Cdub in that you probably oversimplified the issue or are unaware of some important fact. But since I don't know what that'd be, again, nice job on what you do have. :)
  4. To sum it up concisely, you have to be both 30+ and be in the top 1mil to appear.
  5. They should ban it, enforce it, and ban all players who do it henceforth. It's another unfair advantage. Outside relationships based on friendship are unfair to those who don't have real life friends who play runescape, because some people might get favors others might not. Not everyone has these same outside resources. (I'm mocking a trend, and even the community to an extent, so I figure I'd better say it now than get yelled at later)
  6. If you switch to monthly I'd try out letters and see how the response goes. Check traffic, check forum response activity, etc, to see if it's worth it for you guys. You guys are working your editor a lot though, I say switch to monthly, and if you do, just see how letters go and take it from there.
  7. You're like 3 years late on this train. Right now jagex has created a perfect balance of inflation vs. deflation. Rares have remained stagnant for almost a year. Most regular items are within regular price ranges. Find another cause to worry about. I could go on and on about disproving small minute things, but it's not worth either of our time.
  8. Thank god, you had me worried for a minute there. :P (sad part is there have been a few people like that posting here)
  9. Wow, talk about being in denial. Defensive much? The guy's example was pretty much my definition of a balanced life...just play RuneScape if your spare time. But he claims himself he has no life, yet he does, so I can't really imagene what a 'life' to him would be like... (If that made no sence whatsoever please say) Yeah, I didn't really follow what you were saying. I was just on his case for the reasons just mentioned though. What that guy said was just a fallacious defense mechanism he's using, because it seems he doesn't have much of a social life, so instead of admitting to it or lying about it he just attacked the notion of social lives in general.
  10. I once suggested a forum for general advice about anything. Normally I"m against subforums but it'd help clean up a lot of clutter I couldn't care less about reading (although that's just my subjective opinion, although a lot of people don't care about personal questions and help people want about any of life's aspects).
  11. Maybe because the vast majority are young kids? I agree the censor is annoyingly bad, but I'm glad jagex censors some words. I can't imagine the filth a 13-year old would be spewing just because he can. They censor words like gay because people use the word gay as an insult, which is offensive to some people. I'm against censorship but when we're playing a game with the majority being early tweens just discovering swear words and how to use them, I'm pretty glad we have censors. Let's say 30% of people who start runescape quit because they get confused or don't know what to do off the boat. These teachers were put in by jagex to keep more of this percentage, which ultimately leads to more memberships. It just makes sense. I know we had it harder but they're just being business smart. Before the ditch people could still enter the wild even with the warning sign. Without it you're forced to cross it voluntarily. The ditch ended luring forever. Granted to most people it's annoying and unneccesary, but if it saves one guy a party hat it's worth it so the guy doesn't have to go through all that sadness or whatever he'd go through. They're only looking out for some of the slower players here. Again, it just makes business sense for them to make things more accessible and less likely to mess people up. As for random events. At one point each worked. When they make them they work until the autoers find ways around it. While it's not a bad concept, you're right that they should remove some older ones that are now ineffective. But right now the best way they know how to counter autoers is releasing new random events. As for rares. Once you understand that is one of the most idiotic things anyone could ever possibly say, I'd hope you hate rares less, and hope you'd understand them more. They're not a waste, nor are they not useful. There's no item in the game of runescape that's more useful than a party hat. I repeat. No item in runescape is more useful than a party hat or similar rare. I invested about 20million into rares in rsc, now I have a 1bil+ networth. How can you call that a waste? How can you call that useless?
  12. It's a simple question. Let's say that you could omnisciently travel back in time as the character you are now with a different name to the exact instant when you got off tutorial island(most of you) into Lumbridge in rs1 or rs2. Upon greeting yourself just starting off, what would you say? Would you give yourself some advice you've wished you knew earlier? Would you warn yourself? Would you give yourself free stuff? For a lot of us there would be a huge time difference in personality. Do you think you would speak completely different than the level 3 you've just met? Those are just some suggestions of things to talk about, feel free to make up hypothetical stories or just directly answer questions I brought up. :)

  14. I hate having stuff in my pockets too. When I'm driving I usually just leave my stuff in my car when I get to a place. But when I need to carry stuff around it's usually my cell phone and wallet, sometimes my ipod.
  15. Only on a Runescape forum. Sadly I think you and I are in the minority here in thinking that's a completely ridiculous thing to say.
  16. Yeah and in five years from now you'll be thinking the same question. Except you'll be wondering what you could have accomplished the past x amount of time in real life instead of playing runescape.
  17. Haha, Chaser's 5 hour energy drink is great. Most energy drinks don't effect me that much, but 5-hour energy is just awesome compared to them. But to the original poster: Besides that having energy drinks so frequently is just plain terrible for your health, why the heck are you wasting money and using energy drinks on runescape? If you're so tired you can't sit down and relax in a chair without falling asleep, you should just take a nap. I mean personally I use energy drinks for a boost, not to sustain consciousness so I can 'no-life' (I love how it's become a term, like that makes it more OK) into the AM. Wow, I'm only 18 and I'm already feeling old, relatively. I used to play rs past 1AM all the time, but now that sounds incredibly stupid to me.
  18. When people say "Alright, rs is taking over, I'm going to quit NOW!" they usually do that. They can go a few months. But they do eventually come back like you mentioned because they didn't really bore themselves of the game. They just went cold-turkey, if you will. If you just force yourself off the game like that, you'll still have an interest in it, and you'll eventually come back because that interest won't be quenched. It's not until you've played enough of it and just become bored of it when you log on, slowly log on less and less, until you've just lost interest entirely of it. When people say they quit, they don't mean they've stopped playing the game. They mean they've taken their own intervention from a bad addiction, which they'll most likely go back into sooner or later. There's no such thing as 'quitting' runescape - it's not a job or anything. It's something that you gradually lose interest in until you've realized you've basically stopped entirely.
  19. What's that have to do with the issue? This going into effect will destroy a freedom we'll no longer have. It's nice this doesn't effect you but a ton of people use internet radio, not only as an alternative to regular radio, but for a variety of uses and reasons. Pandora, being one example. It's great for showing us music we've never known we'd like, and I'd hate not having it anymore.

Live [and die] for people, not erroneous beliefs. The most dangerous people on the planet are those who are convinced that they know the truth.
  21. Yeah, in debate, subjective opinion just doesn't really hold up. Then again, whether something is a waste or isn't is based entirely on opinion in the first place, and I can't understand why you guys started arguing about it to begin with. The fact that it is enjoyable warrants people paying for it, and it's not up to anyone to judge how enjoyable it is in comparison to other things money can be spent on. What are we going to do, narrow life down to the most enjoyable per dollar event and stick only to that?

Hakuna Matata (It means no worries :P )
  23. Since the most common perception of attaining pmod status is through mass successful reporting, people who want that power go out of their ways to spend a ridiculous amount of time just reporting and reporting any person they think might possibly be doing something against the rules - they then do enough of that and figure they'll have to eventually be considered for pmod status.

My figurative fuse is pretty long. It takes a lot to get me mad or to offend me. The only person I'll really snap at is my brother, but that's just because we're close enough. Other than that I just don't let things bother me, and I'm just mellow about life.
  25. I think what they're whining about with arguing is what makes it different from debate. The emotion involved. Debate normally doesn't get anyone upset (although some forum newcomers see regular debate as people getting in fights), but when people get emotional and when debate turns into arguing with personal jabs is where we begin to have problems.
