Let's clarify a few things :) - Mea culpa!
I'm really surprised that anyone's opinion on him would be changed at all. I don't see how he was 'deceiving' anyone of anything. What he did was on the side, and the way he presented himself was as a rolemodel. Him coming out and telling the truth now is really honorable. We were surprised that people found out this soon, but he could have easily just played innocent and people would have believed it. In no way was he 'abusing' any 'position' at all. What he did he kept hidden, which had no connection with the actual game and these forums as a rolemodel. Way to generalize a person by one action Bubsa. There is nothing honourable in admitting your crime once it has been commited, this is mostly done to attract sympathy off the readers, which is obviously working. To be honourable would be to have owned up straight after the deed, but he didn't hoping he wouldn't get caught, thats not honourable, thats cowardice. Presentations are nothing, its whats inside that counts, he broke one of the runescape rules that has no grey areas, you simply cannot trade rs items for any items outside of game. To do this as a player mod and as a tip.it forum mod shows disrespect to both parties, especially if the people he traded with knew he was in these positions. If he broke one rule so easily whats to say he didn't lie about breaking the others? How can you say that what he did had no connection with the game? Every time someone sells gp for real life items it means someone that would not have been able to aquire that gp otherwise has, and they will use it most likely to gain skills or afford items they shouldn't have, thus affecting all of us. Just a shame jagex didn't catch him til so late, when damage was already done. What are you saying? That once he sold his first gp he should have reported himself and asked to be banned? It's not as if he was unaware he was breaking a rule. He had so much rs cash, and to him it just made more sense to trade the time getting virtual currency in one medium for virtual currency in another medium. He knows he broke a rule - I just don't think anyone needs to view him any differently. If he broke a rule outside of runescape would people freaking out? No, he's still the same person. He had no use for the money in the game, so instead of letting it rot away gradually he made some use out of it(not that I support breaking rules in any way though - just in his case it made sense to). Again, since jagex makes it illegal in their game to do it, it's now a bad character trait apparently that he didn't follow this. When I mentioned the 'no connection' deal, I meant that what he did outside of the game on forums isn't necessarily connected to the actual game itself, and that you don't need to link his forum identity with his runescape identity, because that could go on really far, and doesn't hold. Now I know you're the most ultra-conservative-righteous type poster I really can remember, so I'm taking that into consideration, but really, why would you view him any differently?

End the Frustration
What about people who train magic on crouds of those monsters with high level magic? I know that's one use for them. I'd prefer single but that woudl hurt the peopel that train magic there, so I can't support it.

Read this: The freaking post above you. ;)

Smart play for Pest Control
That was 'fixed' by jagex in the last update unfortunately.

Leet speak good or bad?
It's probably one of the worst trends to hit the internet, IMO. Note that you don't ever actually really see people overly typign in it. It just gets annoying because when you see it, 90% of the time it's people typign it joking around, but it's still pretty annoying. This thread already has some lines with people using it jokingly, and that's really the only time I see it, but it's just as annoying when people use it jokingly to me.

Merchanting...a True Skill?
I'm actually not asking a question, im just attempting to point out how merchanting is not a lazy mans way of making money.. Well by the replies it seems like they're debating the question your title implies, that being, whether or not merchanting really is a skill. But yeah, your original post was what you said - explaining why merchanting isn't brainless.

Smart play for Pest Control
Thanks for educating people about what to do. :) On C though, doesn't it not matter if the gates are opened or closed that much? Generally when I play I block the long line of NPC's just by standing there and attacking them for the heck of it - they can't pass.

Merchanting...a True Skill?
I think to answer your own question you need to redefine what you're asking. Some people might think you're asking if merchanting is as hard as in-game skills. Others might think you're asking if it should be a skill. It could be whether or not it takes any skill. Obviously merchanting takes more skill than training up most skills. Most skills you don't even need to focus on while raising, so obviously it does take skill. In itself merchanting isn't a skill in terms of stats you raise obviously. I doubt that was the question. I do think merchanting nowadays takes less skill than it used to. Although in certain areas it takes more skill. I'd say overall it just takes different skill though. I can't merchant anymore because I just can't stand dealing with those people anymore. I don't have the patience for them and how they act, and you need a lot of it to merchant nowadays.

Solution for combatting autoers - Reasoning random events
No, the new randoms each have one question with only a few sets of choices that are presented. Autoers can easily get around that in time.

Update: RuneScape - Better than ever!
Haha, as soon as I read that line, I immediately thought of 1984. 2+2=5 Yup, we've got our own thought police and everything. :P I probably look too much into things but jagex just seems to act like a massive restricting censoring government. It doesn't show through as much in this one (since it's about how they supposively restored order to the world) but I just see a ton of parallels to oppressive governments in the way they operate, just on a different kind of scale.

Dont be a jerk
Oooh, another cannon argument... Just gonna let you know that it's going to go in circles, with some peopel saying it's a part of the game and there for a reason, others saying use it but only when you find a clear world, others say use it whenever you feel like it, then the rest say it's just plain cheap and shouldn't ever be used (which makes me wonder what they think about it even existing in the first place). So yeah, expect a few pages of that argued/quoted over and over.

Update: RuneScape - Better than ever!
A bunch of blank statements mixed with the intent to scare half of runescape with jagex presenting themselves as this all knowing powerful omniscient force. "Those who are not willing to be educated are removed."

Audio Question
Then why do companies bother selling speakers in the first place? How do I know that my speakers aren't the limiting factor?

Solution for combatting autoers - Reasoning random events
If you read it you would have seen that there would be more questions added - that's what this is based on and that's what would stop them in their tracks. Different font types aren't essential for this to work - they only make it harder for the autoers. Again, there would be more and more questions added, making it harder for the autoers. I know that autoers always find a way around things. It's a vicious cycle. At least this way jagex has to put in minimal effort on their side of the table compared to the autoers who have a lot more work for every single question. Currently jagex has so much work in creating each random event, then the swarms of autoers work together to work around it. Putting this random event in would make it easier for jagex to quickly and efficiently stop more autoers. That part doesn't really matter that much, does it? I just assumed jagex could put in their own device for once they get the question wrong. Most ideas like teleporting them away or noting their items can be gotten around, so my best idea is to just keep them from logging on for an 10 minutes to an hour when they get the random wrong. Or make some thurdor's black hole type setup that they're sent to for the tiem period after they get it wrong. I never said this was a replacement for the existing random events. Yes, I thought the problem with people typing in an answer for other people for a prompt in this case. Having your character be required to walk a 10 second or so distance through something and answer two out of three questions would take a lot longer than the old sleeping bag method, so people couldn't sit at their computer and as easily type away screenshots they got of the word popups for all the autoing programs, which in this case they would type an item id and the program would click the item. Yeah I'm aware that they 'build immunity' to whatever comes. I mentioned that a few quotes up.

Solution for combatting autoers - Reasoning random events
That's on such a small scale though, since there must be only like 10 items in total so a macro program could easily tell which one to click with the same questions and same choices over and over again. The ideas are pretty similar actually, and I wasn't even thinking about the miles/giles RE when I came up with this.

I guess I shoulda clarified that. The quality of it.

Audio Question
I'd like to improve my audio, so a few weeks ago I went out to buy a new pair of speakers. I'm not sure if the guy knew what he was talking about, but he said that the type of speakers won't effect the sound I get, and that if I want better sound, I'd need to buy a sound card. Right now I have the speakers and soundcard that came with the computer, so if I wanted to get better sound, would I need to buy a new pair of speakers, or a new sound card? I'll look up my hardware specs if that would make a difference. Thanks in advance.

Skeletal Wyverns without normal Wyverns?
So you dislike that "Harpie bugs" have harpie attached, leaving the name to just be 'bugs.' Similarly, we have the case of dragons. There isn't any NPC just called 'dragon' in the game. We have red, blue, black, green, steel, etc. Adjectives just have to be added a lot of times to monsters or else they'd be too plain.

One mans journey to reduce autoers! rawr
I WANT TO BE A P-MOD!! but seriously, just sitting there reporting a bunch of throw-aways can't really do anything, can it? if we can make it so that throw aways are banned before they can ever bank thier ill gotten loggs then yes we can make a large amount of difference... eventaully they will have to see that the inability to gain logs from the macro'ers will reduce their effectiveness :P I can tell you now that no throwaway will ever be able to be banned currently before they can bank their logs. CS just isn't remotely that fast.

Solution for combatting autoers - Reasoning random events
Which RE are you talking about? which random does that? i totaly agree with what you said. it wouldn't hurt us legit player but will literaly kill autoers Plus a variety of questions where you most likely would never get the same question twice would be a lot better than the monotonous same type questions you get over and over again through the random events we get now. People for once wouldn't be annoyed by these types of RE's. :)

To Fix Autoing You Must Fix The Game
I doubt that would really help. They'd just have half their accounts logged on at once and switch them when the first half hit their cap. Then the legit players will have the annoyance of a daily xp cap. Way too easy for autoers to get around, and it'd be yet another nuisance caused by autoers to legit players.

One mans journey to reduce autoers! rawr
Unfortunately they can make more accounts faster than you can report them, and even faster than jagex gets around to banning them. It's a nice effort and all, it just seems unneccessary for you to do this timewise. Nice to see someone taking a stand though.
