  1. I don't think anyone was mentioning a single case here, but rather just the idea that McDonalds probably knows their product is not healthy, and therefor shouldn't be selling it, as they know it's addictive and unhealthy if you eat too much of it. I think he was making a general statement rather than a specific statement about a certain action. --- I also think that we shouldn't rely on people to make optimum choices, because in general they do *not*. A society should have pressures in place which lead to more optimum choices. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tragedy_of_the_commons for people who make choices which are optimum to themselves and quite logical, but actually destroy the entire society if everyone does it.
  2. No cap on prestige except human mortality How do you know? Because their explicit goal is to make the only target be the top of the highscores.
  3. This could be interesting.. I wish they would require combats to reset all at once, so that way you can't just keep most at 99 and still not have to do lower lvl things. The nice thing is that if enough poeple prestige, the lower tier resources will matter a tiny bit more because the lower levels will take more xp and more time, so those spots could stll be somewhat crowded. I think the thing I see is that it ruins the bar for new players even more though, because those new players still can't catch up. It doesn't give someone who's starting tomorrow a chance for the number 1 spot.
  4. dropped food in hard mode is incredibly rare. However, as far as I know bosses aren't supposed to have no drop item at all, and that happened quite a few times while I was doing ranged.
  5. This seems correct. I've been using melee recently and getting drops, but when I used range/mage I didn't get drops consistently. It feels like the tag system because I believe it occurs after the creature's overlight interface disappears (showing their health, active abilities, and such). Not really sure how to report the bug though.
  6. Are you ranging or maging them? I've noticed bows at least an sometimes magic seem glitched and you only get the drops sometimes when using them. I don't know if its a glitch with the tag system or what. Same happens with bosses. So that's what it is? sometimes see the tagging on the enemy disappear but I can still fight them.. and then they drop nothing...
  7. :o I filed a bug and it got fixed :D :D :D :D
  8. Plus it's not like they can easily turn concept art into game objects. How often is the concept just not really feasible given their limitations.
  9. I agree. It really didn't feel like a grandmaster. I would've liked a stage where we go and do a hunt/search to see if the Red Axe are still in those caves. In addition, I would've liked to give us some better prompting so that we didn't have all the issues determining what exactly was happening. The boss fight was decent. I think if I hadn't known to use magic I would've had more trouble. It was a decent quest overall, but a bit confusing about some things. Just needed a little revision to be tidied up.
  10. Thought the next week video was missing presumed death? I would assume they would give the BTS before it so we won't get an update next week or it will be trees..?
  11. Finally did the quest today. I feel like it wasn't very solid, had quite a few story plot holes that just didn't make everything feel connected. I did like the bit about the memory wand, that was neat. It needed a bit more breathing room between stages of the fight, as well as keeping the banker guy around so that we could re-bank if we died. (without running out of our way). Also, the cannon part *especially* should have started you off in a safe zone so you could actually see things and begin to understand WHAT was going on. Took me a bit to realize I was dying so fast because of the cannons and that I would need protect range, and all. The boss fight itself was actually felt very much easier than people claimed. I did like the whole bit with the castle replica.. I would have liked more dialog at post quest, and better ability to see the changes my choices made..
  12. A lot of things they would like to do, but.. not a lot of solid time tables as to when they will be finished.
  13. Was pretty sure speed had an impact in auto ability dmg?
  14. We don't know yet. I believe the divine tears will be kept track of for a little bit as they said we could buy lamps after it ended.. They also mentioned something about the overrides becoming rare drops or some such.
  15. You aren't playing a single player game though. Yes you aren't playing in a group, but your actions impact the larger game world. You rely on the larger game world to provide things for you, and you compete against other players. And you likely have friends on the game, even if you don't participate in larger group activities. A true single player game has vastly different requirements to an online multiplayer game. --- As for equating bonds with donations, that is not true. Donations are a different beast, compared to bonds. Bonds are similar to RWT. Your example of a friend giving 20m to help a friend out, and then that person gives them 15$ to pay for membership is an example of RWT. Also, bonds enable someone to legally trade real world cash for advantage in the game. But players were already *able* to do this before. Jagex is unable to prevent everyone from RWT, or prevent the websites from existing. This demand will be satisfied, and Jagex cannot stop it. Clearly people want it, even though some of us don't like it. Adding bonds simply lets Jagex get a slice of the pie, and maybe help reduce the effective cash "in flow" which results from them adding bots and gold farming specifically for the purpose of selling it. (which does cause inflation, although all the gold has to be generated from somewhere) It's a better solution than Jagex selling gold directly. (though they are somewhat close with things like Squeel) The (non)existence of bonds would not have any impact on whether people can buy advantage in the game (as that is *already* possible, and people *already* do it) This means I don't think debating the ethics of Jagex adding bonds is as simple as saying they shouldn't do it. They have already proven they cannot stop gold farming from existing. Nor can they stop gold selling from large rich players, or gold buying from a large portion of the community. This RWT aspect *will* exist whether Jagex is involved or not. Given this scenario, I believe it is far better for Jagex to be involved than to stay out of it, as they are capable of helping manage it, and potentially benefiting the game. Also, the whole idea that microtransactions are bad for the game, or that being able to buy your advantage is that bad... It has worked in other games, and it is quite successful. People seem to enjoy it that way.. @Meirin: In an ideal world I would love an online game which did not have an impact from real world circumstance. However this is not really feasible. free time already has an impact on how well you can do (those who have jobs or lives which enable more free time allows further progression!) As for the other things, there are already plenty of mechanisms for a richer person to gain more advantage than a poorer person (even though they are against the rules) and the enforcement of this rule is not feasible as proven by the fact that Jagex cannot (or won't) ban everyone for RWT.
  16. If the singular reason you play is for competition against the "best" in this game, then you most likely were already outclassed, because most of the top players are rich enough to be *able* to spend massive amounts of time playing. (ie: the live with families who will support them even though they are spending the vast majority of their time in an online game) In addition, gp in rs is helpful but not the only skill. I play and compete against friends, and yea now a few of them could buy some more gp, but not really enough to make the competition unfun.
  17. I actually like big chinchompa game, even if it's not the most efficient, as I dislike jadinkos (can never (re)set the traps fast enough)
  18. Plus the yellow wizard should be a bit more xp.. I found it tedious and not really that much faster to hunt the yellow wizard... And yea, ZMI should be faster than runespan, with runespan being worth less. (but give it more pts/hr so that it's faster to get the tier1 title)
  19. This could work assuming the bond value can stay high enough to outcompete the RWT sites. Yes, the demand for rich players to sell gold for real world cash is high. But if they have no one who wants to buy it.. they won't be able to. I don't think this *will* work because it requires bonds to stay valued high enough which seems unlikely in the current setup because bonds trade in for so little. If they earned a few more than 8 spins? or more runecoins possibly? I think the value of the bond is so low for its cost that they can't really make it work. Plus since there are plenty of people willing to sell large amounts of gold, the RWT sites will have massive supply they want to get rid of, which means they can lower their price more and undercut bonds. It's not like these sites are really about scams. (they make more $$$ by not scamming than they ever would with scams)
  20. It's probably just something a random dev mod made in photoshop for the fun of it ;)
