I've never had problems buying pouches almost instantly off the GE. Perhaps it just depends which ones you are trying to buy.

I think the others have made some really good points here. There are plenty of level gaps both at low levels and high levels for more familiars. These could do practicaly anyhting Jagex want them to do from assisting in a new as yet unreleased skill or like someone else suggested about absorbing hits. There is plenty of room for summoning expansions. There are also loads of things they can change to allow people to collect charms while skilling, something which I belive runescape lacks. The Dorgeshkaan chests were a good start but got nerfed pretty quickly. I'd like to see things like charms added to treasure trail rewards as well as charms being in fishing caskets, birds nests and the crystal chest for example.

Oh and I dispute the argument that it's not worth buying pouches to trade in. Even if they work out to 24.6 gp per shard if you need 200k shards you would be saving 80k gp.

The calculator assumes you can and will trade in every pouch. Most gold charm familiars arent worth trading in for a start and you also have to be above the level required to make a pouch to be able to swap it.

It's up to you really. I didnt use mine until 83 though.

But it will be worth it in the long run. If you make sure you kill Bork daily too you get 7 crimsons, 5 blues and 2 greens. By the time you get to level 79 you should have a good couple of hundred blues. Just 280 blue charms (2 months worth) at level 79 is 194,656 exp, enough to take you up a whole level.

You'll regret it. 69 blue charms will give you 35,217.6 exp making overlords. If you waited until 79 you would get 47,968.8 exp and if you waited until 83 like i did you would get 50,397.6 exp. An increase of 15,180 exp for the same number of charms.
