  1. Can't we all just agree that democracy is a bad system in the first place?
  2. For a long time, when I was a noob, I made my cash chopping willows and selling to the general store (didn't know that players paid more) as well as picked up unwanted coins from the ground. Then, for a while, I was hired by a guy to cut him yew logs for under the market price (didn't know this) so he could sell them for profit. He eventually paid me with a rune 2H and full rune armor set. It comes of no surprise that someone would be ignorant about making cash for so long. Personally, I think I got about 60-70 woodcutting before buying membership and learning that cutting magic logs for 100k/hr was a decent moneymaker for a person at my level at that point in time. I then made bank by looting over 3 million in items from a guy's body after he died from poison in Falador, one day before the infamous 6/6/06. And then I got backstabbed by a friend because he was poor after getting scammed and could only afford a dragon skirt, so he borrowed some of my equipment and never gave it back so he could afford dragon legs so he wouldn't "look gay." Oh the joy of the noob days!
  3. Hello, guys. I was curious if anyone was feeling creative and wanted to post an alternate ending to their favorite TV shows. To start us off, I'll state my idea for an alternate ending for the TV series King of the Hill. -- The episode begins with Hank Hill coming home one night after working late at Strickland Propane and discovering John Redcorn in bed with his wife. In a fit of rage, Hank grabs a shotgun and shoots and fatally wounds John Redcorn. Hank is later brought before a judge for murder charges, and he's given the death penalty. Bewildered, Hank says "But judge...I've been an outstanding Texan citizen!" to which the judge replies "We all know that, Hank, but the law just ain't on our side. In Texas, if you kill someone, we gotta kill you back. The law don't give two cayhoots if you were a good citizen. If you break the law, you suffer the consequences." Hank gets to choose the method of execution, and he makes a special request to be put in the gas chamber, using propane to kill him. This portion of the episode shows Hank in the gas chamber saying, "Well, it's an honor to die at your side, Mrs. Propane. Yep..." Hank wakes up in heaven and sees John Redcorn. He learns that Indian religion is the only true faith after all, and John Redcorn and Hank Hill forgive each other and smoke the peace pipe. Redcorn says that he liked to sleep with the wives of white men in order to pay the White Man back for years of abuse and wrongdoing upon his people. The scene ends with Hank donning an Indian headdress and going with Redcorn to hunt buffalo together. Dale and his family move away in the middle of the night because it is discovered that the government is tracking him down afterall because he did something to violate the Patriot Act (presumably). It's hinted that Dale uncovered a major conspiracy that the government was involved in, and some higher-ups wanted to silence him. Bill makes an attempt for suicide by leaping out in front of Peggy's car as she's coming home from Hank's funeral because he's distraught after losing Hank, one of his last friends in the whole world. Peggy and Bill eventually form a relationship because their grief allows them to bond together (Bill is still depressed about his ex-wife leaving him), and the two marry. Bobby grows up and decides to follow in his father's footsteps in the propane industry, and Strickland decides to retire and hands over the company to Bobby, which is later renamed "Hill Propane." -- The moral of the story is that although Hank has been an over-patriotic, extremely law-abiding citizen, he could not escape the cold grasp of the law. It was naive of him to think that the law was on his side because he was a good person.
  4. Why is he marrying a commoner? Didn't Edward VIII abdicate because he wanted to marry an American woman? What's changed now?
  5. I think I remember your name from way back there. Didn't your sig used to say that your first account was banned at level 110 or whatever? But yeah, this community isn't as cohesive as it used to be. I can say HYT in the Tip.it clan chat and either not get a response, or some ass wipe decides to be an [wagon]. I don't go there anymore, really. Speaking of which... Wasn't there a Mrs. Slug (or Purple Slug) that was an admin back then?
  6. I'd just call it stupid. If you love each other, you should be able to (and want to) work together, communicate and practice to turn it into great sex. Faking it just makes you unhappy when you could potentially be having a great time. And if the sex sucks and you're faking it (thus not improving it), odds are it will pull the relationship apart sooner or later. THIS. If you aren't sexually compatible (as in, you two have completely different sexual preferences), the relationship will deteriorate anyway. Yes. It can be incredibly hurtful for the other person. It makes you a jerk. And I'd call you pathetic if you did that. =\ Ever watched Vanilla Sky? Remember the crash scene? That'll happen to you because women are crazy.
  7. I really enjoyed the event, to be honest. It was a nice change from the generic Easter Bunny events. Now I wish we had holly and hawthorne trees in the game. Looking forward to the tree update affecting all trees in RuneScape. It makes the game a lot prettier and more attractive to play, although I think it still needs a ton of reworking before it can be very attractive for me to play again. One thing I liked is that they added clothing items more geared towards female characters. More feminine clothing is needed in this game. There needs to be more default clothing, for example. It really gets on my nerves that we don't have more variety with hairstyles (and hair color) and that there aren't many default tops that have defined feminine features (such as breasts) or many skirt choices (that show more of the legs). Also, shoes and bracelets. I hate every piece of clothing looking like something your grandma would wear! Also, I wouldn't mind the Spring Queen's clothes.
  8. Just change your character to a girl then... Like me. PS: Ain't I pretty?
  9. I thought it was legal for people to smoke pot as long as it was under a certain amount?
  10. Then where would the proof be of what happened? And posts are hidden for privacy of the users. If someone was warned for committing an offence it pretty much advertises it on the post. Most of the time the posts are moved to a private area of the forum that the staff uses called the ZAP boards to be used as evidence. The mods discuss what action should be used. If you pay attention to your post count when your posts are "removed," you'll usually notice that it remains the same. This means that your post was moved to the ZAP boards.
  11. Just reread that PM discussion, and I have to correct you: Two admins (the ones who had stated an interest in the forum) actively participated and posted properly, and another replied aswell - in a positive manner. Using this to justify breaking the rules wouldn't hold up in court, that's all I'm saying. :) I was referring more to Das's comment: Whether or not he meant anything by it, I'm just saying that at that particular time, I felt like some of the admins ignored my message and chose to respond with something totally irrelevant as a sign of disrespect. It doesn't matter if that was the real intention or not. What matters is that it's very difficult to know the meaning of someone's message at times (this is the Internet after all), and it can be easy for the staff to offend users. This is basically what Rainy_Day told me in the email I received after being banned for the second time in a month in regards to a post I made. It can be difficult to interpret someone's message, and the chance of someone getting offended can be relatively high. Also, I'm not trying to justify what I did to break the rules. Yes, it was intentional. I did my damnest to see how far I could have gone before getting banned (which as pretty far in my opinion). I deserved what I got. I've already discussed this in private with an admin of this website through an instant messaging program. I didn't send an appeal giving a formal apology because I didn't have time for it due to Uni. EDIT: I just want it to be known that I'm not trying to reignite that event or complain about it. Seeing that it's relevant to the topic at hand, I thought that it would be a great example.
  12. One thing the staff needs to really be careful about is how they come across to others. Six months ago, there was a row between one of my friends who was a moderator (not naming names) and other members of the staff, and I got involved in it because I believed that this guy was being mistreated. Well, some admins and several other users got involved, and there were many heated arguments. After a while, I tried to make peace with some of the admins involved, and their response seemed dripping with sarcasm and rude. Most of the admins spammed the PM thread and basically ignored my message, and only one admin even bothered to properly respond. How did this make me feel? It pissed me off, and that's one of the reasons why I started a trolling spree.
  13. How do you define 'simple bullying?' From what I've seen with other cases, it's consistent that bullies try to emotionally or physically harm a person.
  14. Personal experience of mine... When I was in middle school, a group of girls would tease me and spread rumors that I was gay. Hell, some of them even had their boyfriends anonymously call me and tell me that they were going to kill me. I reported this at school and guess what happened? Nothing. Not even over a death threat. I even knew who these girls were and asked the principal to do something about it. The girls were brought in and started making false accusations that I was harassing and threatening them and that they never did any of these things to me. Pure [cabbage]. But you know what happened? The administration sided with the girls. They did so because they were girls and I was a guy. I even had a record of being a well-mannered, non-hostile student who made good grades. What ultimately happened was that my self-esteem dropped due to constant harassment as well as my grades. I eventually changed schools and haven't had trouble ever since; my self-esteem is now pretty high and I do well academically and socially. Anyway, the point is that in most cases, school staff fail to do much to help victims of school bullying. A lot of times, at least in a victim's eyes, is that they have to do something drastic. Usually it may be physical retaliation, and it may be more extreme (school shootings, suicide, etc). I'd only recommend any future children of mine to use physical retaliation when the bully is harming them and they have to do so in order to escape, but I do empathize with what others may go through. I'd also rather have my child sent home for knocking a bully's lights out rather than becoming depressed and making me worried that they might harm themselves.
  15. So is it a child's job to teach a bully 'consequences' with their fists? When a parent tells a child to stand up for themselves by fighting, do they really understand what they're sanctioning, what they're sending their child into? Will they really learn the value of self-confidence if they come out of a fight with a broken nose, broken bones, concussions, or anything of the sort? And if they lose that fight? Tell me, who was hurt more then, the bully or the victim? What else do you suggest? Bullies are neither empathetic nor are they reasonable. You usually can't just sit and talk with a bully and resolve it peacefully. Walking away works sometimes but can be taken as a sign of submission, which can make it worse. And from experience when I was in middle school, teachers don't do much to help. Hell, some don't do anything at all, and it can even get the victim in trouble, especially if the bully is female and the victim is male.
  16. -any color lipstick -heavy eye makeup -unnatural hair dye (blue, green, yellow, etc) -[bleep]y/conniving personality -expects their man to be macho and aggressive (expects their boyfriend to act stereotypically) -girls that try to act stereotypically female -too much perfume -overweight -goth/emo/whatever -white trash personality -heavily religious
  17. The Room is such a hilarious movie, especially the sex scenes. AS has such great TV shows such as Children's Hospital and Eagleheart. Wiseau should be proud to have his movie shown alongside these great shows.
  18. SomethingAwful.com
  19. I'm just going to go ahead and mention this while we're on this subject. (Note I'm not complaining or anything) I was actually banned recently (one more mistake and I'm permanently banned) for making a post in Off-Topic in the thread about soldiers murdering civilians. In it, I was being sarcastic and made a comment along the lines of: "It appears these soldiers are brave and are serving our country." While it was obvious trolling (I even admitted this), I could see where it could potentially inhibit free speech. Of course it would be an absolutely ridiculous thing for someone to say, but what if they were being honest and were simply stating their views? Would they be banned or warned? What if someone with radical ideas wanted to create a discussion, and the mods locked the thread because they thought it was offensive? For example, discussions about homosexuality and abortion are pretty normative, but what if homosexuality and abortion were more taboo subjects than they are today? Would the mods delete these threads and/or issue bans? Where do you draw the line?
  20. This. Bullies generally do what they do because they want to get your reaction. If you just tell them that they make you feel sad, then they get what they want.
  21. At least I didn't come up with 2.
  22. Unfortunately, yes. I do believe that this is a step in the right direction on their part, though. Whether or not they intended it, their policy forbidding openly criticizing the staff gave the impression that they were undermining an egalitarian posting environment, and it made the forums seem unfair as a result. Even though this thread is mostly a flame war, it at least gives the impression from the admins that "Hey, we are all users here. Let's make the forums a better place." I respect that. This is a serious problem in the forums. When a person has an opposing viewpoint, it's common for that person to be labeled as a troll or the like. It really inhibits free discussion on this forum and makes the community less appealing to new members.
  23. This is kind of late for me to post this, but I'll go ahead and leave it here. The staff and I haven't always seen eye-to-eye. ;) But you really have to give it to them that they are at least being more transparent and willing to take criticism in public. I wouldn't necessarily laud it that much, but it was a lot better, yes. Right now it's full of morons, and most of the people who helped create interesting debates in the past (especially Off-Topic) have left, unfortunately.
  24. Of course I've been tempted to cheat in Runescape, and I honestly believe that most people are lying if they say that they haven't thought about it at least once. I also don't believe that cheaters necessarily do it because they hate playing the game. I think it's usually because they enjoy the game and want/feel like they need to reach a certain goal in order to have more fun, but they don't want to undergo the means that are needed for the goals. For example, a player might want a certain stat or item, but they don't want to grind several hours a day in order to achieve it. From personal experience, I know what it's like to feel this way. I'm a college student, and I have no time to play (unless I want to screw over my social life or risk damaging my grades). It's very disheartening to want to play a grind-intensive game such as Runescape but feel like it's impossible to enjoy it as much as I should due to not having enough money or certain stats. Runescape is really too focused on having money or certain stats. You can't really play the game without having a large sum of game currency, which is also required in order to purchase stats. Everything about the game aside from a few bits of minor content basically require that you spend several hours a day of your life on the game. I think games studios should change their outlook on cheating as a sign that there's something wrong with the current system. People don't usually cheat because they hate the game; they usually cheat because something about the game makes it not fun to play but is still a requirement in order to really have much of a game experience (such as grinding). Games studios should instead seek to prevent it by changing certain aspects of the system in order to make it more enjoyable and less grindy rather than just punishing as many people as possible. Of course this is just my observation/opinion about the game, so flame me if you want. I honestly could care less.
