One less student at my school.

Wow. I'm sorry for the loss. :(

However, I see both points. I'm not too sure if the kid asked for it or the officers unjustly killed a kid.

I really just don't know what to say.

Last year this kid at my school attempted to rob a liquor store. He was jumped into his car, and tried to run when he heard sirens. He was chased down the street for a few miles, and the cops said that he tried to ram them with his car. They shot him 9 times. He died later on in the hospital.

It sucks so much to lose one of your friends. He was the first, and it will happen again.

Well - considering the kid hadn't attempted to attack the officers - none of their lives were in immediate damage; shooting as an uncalled for action. Plenty of other options for those situations.

I read over the article and I agree. Couldn't the officers have just shot him in his arm, in a way that with immediate medical attention, he could've not died, but lost his arm? That seems like a more fitting way to deal with him.

Cops are trained for body shots only I believe. I was of the same opinion as you untill I realised it reduces chances of missing the target or potentially hitting a by-stander. Movies plant the image in your brain and you go with it like I did. In other words don't believe everything you see in the movies.

No, they could have used a tranq. dart or even one of the tazer guns..where they shoot a small pin, it connects, and has a cord. The cop presses another trigger, and you are incapacitated. That would've been a better way than to just shoot him.

As for Body Shots, any good gunman (which, I assume most police are) can easily trans over from the body to an arm.

I'm sorry this had to happen :(

"I would like to find out what interim measures were taken, short of deadly force," he said. "Instead of resorting to

shooting, what could they have done to diffuse the situation?"

According to Banayat, deputies used pepper spray to try to subdue Chass, reportedly to no effect. Deputies also used a baton to knock Chass's hand, Banayat said. According to police, no one was able to disarm Chass of the knife and he reportedly began to kick both deputies in the face and chest. According to Banayat, one of the deputies began to bleed from the face and feared that he would lose consciousness. It was then, according to Banayat, that the deputy fired his gun at Chass, striking him. According to Banayat, Chass was still reportedly waving the knife, kicking and yelling at the deputies. The second deputy then fired at Chass and Chass stopped fighting, Banayat reported. The deputies then applied first aid to Chass, with medical personnel arriving two minutes later, Banayat said. Chass died shortly afterwards.

He was apparently mentally ill and was threatening a little boy and refusing to give up, its not like movies where they have tranquillizers

sorry but, when I saw that you posted this and the title, I immediatly thought you burned someone to death with your death ray thingy.

:-w :shame:

Couldn't they just shoot his foot or kneecap of something like that? That way the kid still would of survived, injured, but alive, and that could of worked even if they didn't have tazers/tranquilizers, etc.

You guys think of movies too much. Most cops are not good shots, they are just trained int he basics. Heck, i bet half of the them have never pulled out a gun on a real person, so the shake like hell when it comes time to really use it. doubt they can use a gun on such a small target as an arm when they are shaking.

Plus im pretty sure cops just dont carry tranqs with them at all times. Not all cops carry tazers either i think.

Well if you can't believe the cops, you have to inspect the damage done on them, look for clues to prove their story is true. Like in this case you can check their chests and faces to see if there are any bruises, but still that might not be good enough proof.

Btw, you guys think cops have all their equipment with them? They have a fully loaded squad car with all types of weapons?

But it seems the police tried, there are all types check you can perform to test it out.

Yea.. I find the account of what happen (from the officer) hard to believe. I've seen two cosp subdue a male who was built when he's been armed with a sword. And in this we're talking about a kid - if they couldn't handle that with what sounds like 3 (and most likely more) people... then they must suck at their job or be REALLY out of shape :uhh:

I will say if I had a son or daughter who was held hostage by someone with a kniofe who was making death threts to my son/daughter, id want the police to use whatever force was nessasary to keep my child safe, even if that meant lethal force was used on the hostage taker.

yes, but not if it means killing another of your children when he isn't even threatening the child any longer. Read the article.

He should have been tasered. There was no need to use a live firearm in this situation.
