April 9, 200719 yr who is 04arch3r? i dont agree with anything in article and i think tip it needs to clean house and get rid of some baggage. the editorials started out bad and are getting even worse if that's possible. the subtle put downs about runescape are insulting. the reason rs is growing is because it's a great game. it's about gameplay. always has been. open your eyes people. good luck. #-o [hide=-this is my signature- guides i've written]full list is at the top of <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=775754">viewtopic.php?f=180&t=775754</a><!-- l -->[/hide]
April 9, 200719 yr I have read this article. If you want a community-style game, try Kingdom of Loathing. I think it has a much, much better community than RuneScape does. Why do you think I've stopped playing RuneScape? Seriously, give it some consideration. It's more of a game for more grown-up people than RuneScape is, but do give it a try! It's hilarious. I've stopped playing RuneScape. KoL's better.
April 9, 200719 yr If I honestly believed that there was a better MMO on the market, I'd be playing that instead. WoW is nothing but hype, GW has a nice system in place but nothing really beyond PvP, FFXI isn't great, and you can only play CoH/CoV for so long.
April 10, 200719 yr If the F2P community is an example of the best community to be found in a game, I have lost all further faith in humanity. P2P forever!... Or at least 'til <insert excuse here> happens98% of people have signatures with made up statistics in them. If you're one of the 2% that doesn't, copy this and add it to your signature.
April 10, 200719 yr Regarding the main article, I probably wouldn't be around RuneScape if it weren't for the community that I have experienced and the friends I do have on RuneScape. :? I've found at times that RuneScape can put a person to sleep, and without friends to talk with, I'd have fallen off the chair I was sitting on. :( So I would say that 04arch3r wrote a good article. He's hit the nail on the head. Other games are too pricey (WoW) or have too many adverts (BattleOn's 2 games) or I just don't hear enough about them to be interested (Bots) or (and this one's the worst) they require a client download (GW, FlyFF, Etc.), which I can't do, seeing as I live with my parents and it is their PCs. I'm kinda [bleep]ed in this department, put simply. Now, as for this: ......that if you're F2P, the key to Melzar's maze is non-recoverable after finishing the Dragon Slayer quest? So if you want to enter the maze again, be sure to keep your key. If you're P2P, you can buy another key to the maze, but you have to finish the Legends Quest first! Some people do not know this, and I'm not really in the mood to go digging for the link regarding it, but the above is very true. Jagex made a major change to the game, and so even though I have completed Dragon Slayer, I can't get a new key if I lose my current one. I've tried dropping my key and talking to Oziach, and he says that (and I quote), "You've had your fun in there." ... I'm just glad I got back to my only key for Melzar's Maze fast enough before I could have lost it. And that is my mind's $15 on the matter. April 10, 200719 yr What do you mean? "We all know RuneScape isn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t the best game around. This java-based game is not quite up to par with other online games such as WoW or GW" For your information, :shame: no we dont "all know" that runescape isnt the best. I think it is the best by far, i have played WoW (up to level 12 boring) and Guildwars, runescape beats them both. -.- Runescapes quests are all different, well planned, funny and witty. WoW and GW have quests like "get me 10 bones and ill give you a new sword" Which took about as much imagination as a lamppost. :-k Runescape is more popular and keeps growing because it is the most well thought out and put together game around. I hate to seem like I raving Guild Wars fanboy, but there are some rather misinformed people in this thread. WoW, I don't know what the quests are like in it, as it is The most [developmentally delayed]ed game ever: but I'll have you know that quests in GW are not merely gather #x. Unlike other MMO's it runs through an overall plot, and has an actual end. The quests in it are more along the lines of: go to *blank* fortress to rescue *blank(maybe a henchman)*, or go find the Kournan scouts at *blank* and eliminate them, so we can proceed to *blank*. Do you see what I mean? Campaign-like quests. Shutting up now.... April 10, 200719 yr well.... i dont know is the article is right or not... but at least it offers an explanation to me why i am here and in rs.... well written i must say... =D> Examine ChenGMT (level: 138)
April 10, 200719 yr Well jagex has created the second most popular mmorpg and/it is not that fantastic...graphic wise. Not saying RS hasn't made impressive improvements :D RSC=RS2 I just think at some point we need to go to RS3, if we had better graphics we could really compete with WOW or any other game. April 12, 200719 yr Just a comment about the "community" aspect of the article. Many replies I've read seem to be giving the general concensus of "I wouldn't be here if my friends weren't". I just want to make a point that people shouldn't take a friendship in RS to be representative of the whole community. I have friends too, and yes I probably would quit if they did, and all of them are very mature and polite - the charecteristics which should represent a good community - but this shouldn't be taken to be evidence of a good community. The point I'm making is that you shouldn't take an in-game friendship as a generalisation of the whole of the RS community. Let's not play this down - most people on RS aren't particularly well-mannered, pleasent people. The word "noob" is said more times than I can count; there's a huge problem with scammers, lurers and macroers; most people hold prejudice over certain "classes" of RS players (ie Merchanters, Pures, Skillers); there's Modship-wannabes who report everything that moves - the list goes on, and this isn't a particularly small problem; it's fairly widespread and chances are we'll bump into one of these types of people each and every day. After listing that, can someone please explain to me how the RS community is, for lack of a better word, nice? Personally, I think people replying to this article are mixing up a few exceptions with a much bigger picture. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |
April 12, 200719 yr ***Looks at Ginger_Warrior's post*** :? Uh, I'm not mixing it up! I got it all split in my head already from personal experience! Even though most of the Community can be hell sometimes, places like the guilds and any person's friends list are usually better, and that's why I was saying I stick around. If I didn't have any friends, I'd likely be gone already! April 12, 200719 yr yea and i just can't quit it :( Everytime i quit i start to miss it alot and my friends convince me to start again :P
April 13, 200719 yr RuneScape !DOES! advertise... in the KIDS SITE miniclip. thats where all those 8 years old kids get to RS.

August 2, 200718 yr dear mr (or ms.) 04arch3r. i disagree with your entry. while many points were true (being an expanded chatroom, humans being drawn to that, bad graphics, etc.). i beleive, and im sure many players would agree with me, its not just interaction with other people that draws us to it. its being able to shape yourself in your own image, expanding on imagination, learning real world skills, playing a game on an ever-changing sometimes unpredictable landscape. and while interaction with other people is a huge plus, all of the other things are (in my opinion) just as, if not more important, than chatting with other people. now i respect your opinion and your ability to disagree with me. but that is what i think "the true meaning of runescape is" Bth8 i roll fast and hit hard. you mess with me i mess back. dont get in my way `cause i promise i wont be very forgiving.

October 29, 200718 yr To clear some things up, this article was actually written around October of 2006. So some of the thoughts may be out of date, such as miniclip advertising. (and the word filter wasn't quite as severe back then.) My first character 04_archer dates back to the end of 2003 in runescape classic. That's really where I got my community thoughts. The game has changed a lot even from the beginning of this year. I stopped playing shortly after 04 was locked for technical reasons, and made 04 archer jr to stay in clans. Back to the article, thank-you all for the feedback, I figured Tip.it wouldn't post this article since my former forum account "o4arch3r" had been banned (Explicit spamming or something, go figure). If anyone has any other questions or so, feel free to send me a PM. BTW: I didn't write that Did you know thing, any noob knows that isn't true =)
October 29, 200718 yr Utterly ridiculous. I haven't heard such nonsense for a very long time. The community, out of all things? Omg :XD:   The thing that gets this game going is ego(showing off your skillcape to people you don't even know, or like  ) and high content (which most games lack of). 2480+ total
October 29, 200718 yr Runescape classic, was not populated by, nevermind just read. http://tip.it/runescape/index.php?times=68 It was different back in the day so to speak, is possibly why some people are disagreeing. :shame:
