About the article, I liked how you interpreted it as a chatroom with interactions.

This was the best article i have read in a long time; alot of the other articles have only critised runescape and said how the community was going down the drain.

This article was factual and wasn't a gloom and doom prediction it was very well thought out and really well written!

dont tell anybody but the battleon is actualy adventurequest... dont tell me why i know it  :-w and ive heard and played all those games... pretty lame too... well i still have a level 60 something adventurequest account.. either way great job

Nice article I liked it alot and it really tells it the way it is. Runescape is fun.

This simple java program isn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t game, it̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s a way of life.

Good article. Actually the Did you know is false.... you can get a free one from Oziach at any time after the quest if you've lost your first one.

I completly agree with the author at all times regarding this article. I have told heaps of ppl bout Runescape, and they all love it.

though, there are some idiots at my school though, who think that Runescape is so low below them, that it is less important than dust. I presume these ppl may actually play RS, as n00bz.

YAY! First post! and it sounds good.

Jagex advertises on Miniclip I believe.

I saw a screenie of an ad on mtv.com :ohnoes:

Dude, you're an idiot #-o
Dude, your feeble attempt at an insult is hilarious.

... You can tell JAGeX is British - No common sense. :notalk:
Supportmage:Quick Robin,to the roflcopter!

I know what you atricle is trying to say, but i do disagree because if Jagex advertise they will need more servers. I mean mid-day there are about at least 1000 people on each server and there is alot of lag. I do not think the community keeps it going, i think the young teenagers want to have competition with their friends at school. The best thing about Runescape is the excitement of going into the wilderness and get all worked up with an intense feeling to kill someone, i like this because you can team with people you know and trust and get more winnings, (you can also kill lv 50-60 noobs! :D )

I agree that people would rarther play runescape than on consoles due do the excitement you get out of it. I think the shouldn't advertise unless they get more servers to play on and if they do that, people should give the noobs a chance!

Thanks for reading!!!

I totally agree :) I wouldn't play this game if it was not a multiplayer game.

Yes, ......and no at the same time.

I quite like the article, and completely agree with certain points. The most agreeable point being that what you acomplish doesn't end when you finish something.

Personally, I'd much rather spend ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã3.20 ($5.00) a month to play Runescape than buy a $40 or $50 (or ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã) game every month when I'll probably beat it within a week or two.

I certainly agree with it being a community game, which is probably why lots of longtime players are leaving as the community can be a bit rough as of recent times. However, throughout the bad players, I've found loads of good, nice people, across a wide age spcetrum too! I worried that at 21 I was too old to play it, only to find several people on this very board are also in their 20s, or older!

The main point I disagree about is Runescape not being fun. If it wasn't fun, nobody would play it, much less pay to play it. There has to be some sense of enjoyment, otherwise it's not worth it. Maybe even if it's not direct enjoyment, perhaps it's a sense of competition? First one to 99 at hunter when it was brought out was a mad race, as I'm sure it will be again when Jagex releases the new skill.

I think people play runescape because you can compete against other players, or, you can work with them. Everybody has different goals, and so when trading is done correctly, it can benefit everybody.

Finally, I will say that the fact Runescape is entirely online is a great thing about it. No platform irregularities, not many system requirements, (pretty much none other than java and bradband) and the fact that it's so easy to come back and play it! It's a great game, and has the capacity to be even greater if the right steps are taken.

(a very special thank you to whoever has actually read my post!)

Nice article, i got a friend who used to play runescape, he stopped at lvl 100 and he now plays GW, GW is a nice game, but for sum reason i keep playing runescape... I guess it's the community... ::' =D>

I believe the writer of this article is wrong in saying that the community is the key to runescape/main reason for it's success. I think that the real reason that runescape is so popular despite it's lower quality graphics is the addictive nature of the gameplay, i.e. having to get to a certain level in a skill or getting enough money to afford a certain item.

Also.. In the article it says that the heavy marketing of the 3 new consoles is causing heavy casualties for pc gaming, I don't think pc gaming will ever go away, or be diminished by consoles, all the same things about pc gaming dying out were said when the ps2, xbox, and gamecube were just released and nothing happened.

(first post on TIF btw!)

welcome to the forums :D

sometimes there are days when i really want to hit you..... this is one of those days

indead, the community

do people care if I have 100% on GTA? probably not

But I know if you're good in runescape you get a lot of respect from other players

This was a great article. The guest author did a great job. It would be very interesting to see Jagex advertise Runescape. They did a little of it when they teamed up with Miniclip(which is how I found out about the game), but they haven't done much else.

In my early months of playing, I spent a lot of time competing with my friends, getting better then them at stuff...I still do, quite obsessively  but my point is, if it wasn't for other players, I would of quit straight off, and gone and played snooker games or something stupid.

leveling up would be boring, becuase pming helps pass the time, my levels would be like 5 becuase I wouldn't have any reason to get higher. Stuff like that.

I remember when hunter came out, I did so much of it becuase other players were there, and it felt like a community, I could talk about whatever, with anyone, becuase there were so many people there, I eventually stopped thinking about the level, and it went up itself.

Also Runescape has better gameplay than any other mmorpg I've ever seen, on other games you level up to get to something fun, but you don't do it becuase you enjoy it, unlike runescape.

Oh and people who think theres nothing to do on runescape but talk ect, aren't looking hard enough. :wall:

As soon as I get something worth putting here, I'll...erm put it here.

Thereason I think that alot of people don't switch over to other games is because it's like starting over knowing nothing. You switch from being able to buy/kill almost anything to a newb that can't kill the simplest things. (and you get tired of dying to a freaking goblin  )

I liked the article because many of those points were correct. People tell me all the time, "Why don't you play a better game?" and my response is usually "Because I have friends who play on here and I just sit around and chat if I wanted to. Also, I play it because its fun to me. I don't care about graphics because I'm having fun just raising skills and joking around with friends." Also, I would like to say that I'm a proud member of gaia.

Oh great, we finally had decent articles back in motion and then get fed this....

"This java-based game is not quite up to par with other online games such as WoW or GW, which take pc gaming to a whole new level."

And on what basis would that be?

Graphics? Hardly, because WoW's suck

Gameplay? Nope, GW's level cap is pathetic, WoW's gameplay is repetitive, and there's no originality behind the race + class selection, it's the same old stuff.

"RuneScape is simply an expanded version of a chat room. It̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s human nature to want to communicate ideas with one another."

You call it extended? Then explain to me how something which cencors every second word, barely enough space for double sentences, has chat room functionality equal to something from a decade ago, and shows no signs of short term improvement come even CLOSE to chat room comparison. Hell even WoW functions better in that area, have you even played it before?

"I don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t think I would play RS if it were not a multiplayer game. I mean, what would you do? Let's take a look at some other online RPG̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s. Games such as Gaia, Battleon, and Bots. You probably haven̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t heard of any of these."

So which game is 'better' is your choice to make is it? Because I know, RS multi-player functionality isn't that great at all, nor do I care for it in the least. In fact, it's the community that drags this game down, especially since it started advertising through Miniclip. And most high end players don't pay attention to that aspect, because the solo side of it is a lot better. Sure you'll find the odd one in a minigame, but on a personal note the only multi-player aspect of the game I even give notice is the economy aligned with it.

Oh and I find it funny how you say PC gaming has suffered 'heavy casualties' from the new consoles. Because that's a lie, plain and simple. In actuality PC's are still out selling their inferior counter parts, none of the new consoles are selling well at all.

randy_1009.png

very well written. community is deffiniatly my main reason for playing runescape. many times had i thought about quiting for lack of hope to be a member, but i stick with it to make sure i'm still better than my member friends. and a lot of people ask me [in real life] how is runescape fun? now i have an answer for them that i couldn't quite think of. because of community.
