I don't think this belongs in the tech forum

Sure - when you put down a few g's for the smallest possible "surface" :uhh:

If it's about hot women, no. If it's about new technology on computers, yes. It must be fun, all those people are constntly smiling.

Yea, thats what I was thinking  does anyone have a cost anywhere? because wouldnt it basically be a computer with a really really nice monitor?

Oh - and when a mentioned "a few g's" I really ment upwards of 10.

Sounds fun, though I won't be holding my breath waiting for its release - that's for sure!

5-10k USD according to press releases.

Does it come with Vista to fully ruin the experience? :o

You get a cool "Windows" sticker!

The difference is the wireless interactivity. Putting a device in proximity to the surface, having the two connect to eachother and exchange their information. It's quite simple when abstracted, and actually the first m$ product I've seen in a while that's rather innovative.

And don't worry about cost. Everything that we now get very cheap was expensive when it first came out.

It sounds cool how it recognizes objects and scans credit cards just by placing your card on it. Right now rather than for homes it sounds better for businesses though. Using that thing for over ten minutes would hurt your back a lot.

Course it's a while off, but I suppose that kind of wireless technology is definitely the future.

Isn't that osmosis? Where it can transfer info something sitting on it? Or am i thinking of something else?

osmosis the the flow of water from a high concentrated area to a low concentrated area. its what trees and plants use to pump water.

but that is just nuts how useful this could be for everyday use. this is probably going to replace conventional computers in around 10+ years.

It looks like it could be extremely useful for certain applications but I can't see using it for everyday computing.

Brilliant.

Imagine having a checkout counter where you set your items on the counter, it scans them, set your card down, it charges it, and out you go.

That'd be rather hardcore.

Wait a second...

The phone (A Nokia E61) that I'm browsing from doesn't have flash. But from what I've heard it is like a screen that can scan credit cards. Right? Can someone giove more details?

But, sorry to ruin the suprise and all that, but this technology (If it is what I think it is) has been around for a while. Nokia is working on integrating it into it's phones. That means you go to a coke machine, press the button, touch your Nokia against a marked spot, the coke is charged to your bank.

You go into a store, get the stuff, touch your phone to a marked spot at the checkout, pack up and leave.

You get on a bus, touch your phone to wherever, and get on. All is charged to your bank account. This also has some security. This technology is called 'Touch Technology'.

Nokia FTW.

And when your phone gets nicked?

I do not love thee, Dr. Fell,

The reason why I cannot tell;

But this I know, and know full well,

I do not love thee, Dr. Fell.

kewl.

This stuff has been in public use on credit cards and phones in Japan for years. It's by no means still being developed in the sense you're talking about. The US and Europe are just slow as all hell when it comes to adopting and using it.

Actually, Nokia tends to wait for the price to be reasonable before integrating it. GPS only just came out on phones this year. I've heard that that kind of feature (GPS) eats battery like crazy. Dunno if that's the case...

And if my phone gets nicked? Then I'm sad, because then my dad kills me, because it's his phone, but even worse, no more TIF.
