WookieeMania12
Hello people! Ever since the Varrock update came out, a lot of controversy involved a new add-on to the new gritty Varrock. Players have the ability to "Shoo-away" the new street dog and what it does is the player says, "tttffhhhhh" and so the dog backs-off with "whine!". Since then, a lot of people complain about this dog and calling it animal abuse; or is it? Many people claim that the ranters recently killed wild dogs and wolves before ranting about the dog option. People also counter-acted this rant-issue saying that, "its not ok to tease a dog but yet its ok to kill the violent members of the canine family." Players have the option of feeding it with bones and meat so they won't just shoo-off this new pixel dog. Now for my word: I think that if you really cared about that pixel-dog, you'd stop killing all the canine-members. Any comments will be taken, just don't FLAME ANYBODY. We should euthanize anyone who lacks the capability to contribute to society in any way. Please don't elect this man for president in 2012
Solidus_77
We've already got a minigame and a quest the aim is to slaughter as many rats as possible. The dog issue is just icing on a cake IMO, but that's because I'm biased in favor of rats. 76th to reach 99 Construction on 6th of February 2007379th to reach 99 Runecrafting on 4th of November 2007 Finally the secrets of goal achieving are revealed! mrmyk
Like all video games we are not supposed to take them seriously and Runescape is no exception. If people go around abusing animals because of RS well...that's less understandable then those people who say GTA made them kill people or something to get them out of trouble. Alg
it's overreacting...before the update everyone would love killing wild dogs, now it's animal abuse to shoo one, yet not to kill one. I painted some stuff and put it on tumblr
Giordano
Tell that to the lvl 63 guard dogs that are attackable. "The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."
cithien
Hmm...y'know, blowing a raspberry at a dog made of pixels really makes me want to go out and kick/mutilate some real dogs... Seriously, anyone who makes this connection should stop having any sort of interaction with games, TV, the internet, and the vast majority of society. If you're one of those people who can actually see a meaningful connection between shooing a block of pixels and torturing animals, please get off your computer and seek help. First off, you're blowing a freaking raspberry. I tease my dog all the time (it's hysterical how much she hates the vacuum), and she still seems perfectly content and unscarred. There's a line between shooing a stray who may or may not have rabies/fleas/a propensity for biting small children, and hacking a dog to bits for fun. As far as I can see, Jagex has remained well on the safe side of the line. Second, if you wish to draw connections between violence in-and-out-of game, why not use more obvious things such as murder and animal slaughter? I'm sure the Varrock dog wouldn't trade places with other creatures or people in Runescape for all the world. Sure he runs away when you shoo him, but he seems to bounce back to annoy other players with no problem. His life sure beats that of the average wild dog, so why should I feel sorry for him? Really, the only issue I see here is with the handful of crazies who actually think they have a case for Jagex promoting animal abuse. Yes, animal abuse is a horrible thing. I am in no way undermining the value of animal life. I just think that these people's efforts would be better spent volunteering in an animal shelter, or donating money to an organization than it is creating problems where no problem exists. It's so simple to be wise. Just think of something stupid to say and say the opposite. ~Sam Levenson
ianer101
It doesn't promote animal abuse, anybody who thinks it does should join PETA and do something constructive. "If you have nothing constructive to say, don't say anything at all."
Geordiequeen
People always seem to find something wrong with anything Jagex do. I think people have to remember it is after all a game and it is not reality. I mean after all it is a pixel and I doubt doing anything to a pixel could make anyone do it in real life, people are just over reacting.
Ichimaru
Does Jagex make human murder look positive?
Toxicologist
Exactly. I mean, seriously: there is a whole area which purpose is to commit murder. Why do you resist? My experiments are only helping humanity push the boundaries of the Art of Toxicology... you should be proud to be one of my victims. ~Toxicologist~

Hi9im8Here7
I haven't even bothered to go look at the dogs in Varrock yet. The reason people are ranting is that it just doesn't seem right to them to shoo away a cute little dog. As they can see that the dog is "whining" it looks like they're being cruel. But they're more than inclined to violently massacre a bunch of innocent lvl 3 children if they happen to drop ranarrs. :)
Pure_Airkman
Nick_6464, that doesn't count. They are VIOLENT embers. (Sarcasm) ...No, Jagex is not making this positive. If it were, the stray dogs would be attackable, and be lvl 1. Animal abuse? This is like a thread on the Rs forums, someone was saying fishing was abuse. 0h t3h n03s! M3h 1s ab00s1ng t3h P1}{31zzzz!!!!! ANd killing white wolves is not abuse? What about rats. What if I like rats?? :-s Working on this sig..... Pure_Airkman
However, some people play games, then do them in real life. ABusing pixels is fun. ABusing dogs is mean and cruel. But rs has nothing to do with abusing animals. PIXELS m8. Pixels. Like I said however, some people play games then do in rl. Not naming any video games of course =; Working on this sig..... harpy18
The people who came up with this comment need to realize that RuneScape is a video game, not real life. Also, you can't really say that shooing a dog away is abusing it. Today we still make horses pull wagons (which must be much worse than shooing them away) and we don't call it abusing them. Also, if you met a stray dog on the street (a mangy, filthy one frothing at the mouth with flies buzzing around it) wouldn't you shoo it away? Lunar_Drifter
When this update was released, I thought nothing of it. Ok.. there's a few dogs here and there in Varrock; so what? They'll follow you along.. nothing more. So, with the addition of the dogs, JaGEx thought it would be a good idea to introduce an option to get it to stop following you. Not so bad. You just make a noise at it and it whimpers away. So what's the big deal? In Runescape, one of the main goals of many people is to kill X amount of monsters to gain levels. KILLING MONSTERS/HUMANS/ANIMALS. And yet with a simple little addition, people go ape-nuts about shooing away a dog?! This just completely blew me away. Why would we get all huffy about shooing away a dog? How is this animal abuse? It's not. If anyone wanted to complain about animal abuse, then complain about killing all these guard dogs and rats and whatnot. Also, if shooing is abuse, then why doesn't anyone bring up the point that you can shoo your own cat away? Never heard anyone complain about that. But really.. I don't think that shooing away a dog is animal abuse, nor is it something to get all in an uproar about. People can get their pannies in a wad all they want; but I most definitely don't want to hear them complain. And thats how the cookie crumbles. ~Lunar Retired Tip.It Mod || Admin and Founder of Caesar 3 Mod Squad! All are welcome!
Father_Time89
And now for a parody . . . I'm Bob stonesman reporting live for the BBC news here in London, where popular company Jagex is being sued for encouraging animal abuse in runescape. The plantiffs first got angry when jagex allowed players to capture and kill animals . . . that did not exist (except rabbits). But now they are taking action after Jagex released an update that lets you tell dogs to GO AWAY! They claim that telling dogs to go away DOES INDEED COUNT as animal abuse. They also suggest that runescape's incredible graphics makes it hard to tell the difference between a real dog and a fake dog. Strangely Peta does not want to get involved because they quote "don't want to look like nutcases" whatever that means. Wait a minute, I'm getting reports that you could tell CATS to go away in the game for at least A YEAR. That's just amazing Brian, who knows what would've happened to animal abuse if these people hadn't brought it up. Wait I'm getting reports that the judge is laughing himself into a coma as we speak, an astounishing development we'll cover it more as we contin . . . Wait a minute I'm being told that paris hilton is being arrested again so we won't be able to cover any other news for at least a week I'm sorry to say that. Ok sorry false alarm on the hilton bit. Anyway in other news, the makers of mario kart are being sued for responsibility in a traffic accident, claiming the game caused reckless driving and that a 8 year old was supposedly imitating mario kart when he crashed his father's car into a street light. WookieeMania12
^^^ Haha :P In other news, the popular makers Jagex have been sued for a roudy crowd last sunday night. The popular game Runescape had many players acting at their worst and breaking all the rules. Reports claim that the final episode of the HBO series "The Sopranos" startled up the riot after its cliff hanger ending. Anyway, Father Time showed us how silly these people are.
