Tradeable member items

Featured Replies

This post is writen to notice a possible new kind of scam.

when I was trading in draynor village on free world, someone ask about "empty box" and said his friend will buy for lots of coins! It looks like quest item -- fish food, but it is empty, he said.

Myself never heard that item before, so I searched items database on tip.it, found it was actually "an empty box", obtained by talking to Harry in Catherby fish shop. Obviously it doesn't worth that much. I think it may like tradeable member items scam such as selling charcoal with high price.

Tradeable member items:

These items can only be obtained from member world, but can be traded in free world. And these items usually are useless in free world. Some ppl try to sell them to unfamiliar players with unreasonalbe price.

Methods that scamers used -- Team scamming <-- sources

These kind of scamming usually involve 2 or more ppl. One will sell the item while another will prevend to buy it with high price. If player are not familiar with the item, and buy it with high pirce, he or she can never sell it out again.

List of known tradeable member items

Charcoal.pngCharcoal -- Buy from shops, used in quests.

Polished_buttons.pngPolished buttons -- Used in quests.

An_empty_box.pngAn empty box -- Talk to Harry, used for pet fish.

Selling an empty box 2.6m -- no noobs!!!!!!!!

They should make those p2p. You can't go to f2p without people selling charcoal. Or make them useful somehow, so people actually know what charcoal/buttons/empty box actually are.

Quit RuneScape :)

you use empty boxes for making fish food

Not true. I lost my virginity to the log out button #-o
You should have knocked him out and thrown him out the window (I actually did that at school).

Scammer: Selling Charcol 2m a peice

Scammer: Haha you got scammed

*Noob alches charcol for 50M Each*

Noob: Hahahahaha!

Scammer: Nooooo! Noob!!

If only that was the real case here.

Happy to find I'm not the only one who eats glass.

About the empty box, in ernest the chicken quest, didn't you have to feed piranhas at the fountain with poisoned fish food? After that, wouldn't you end up with empty (fishfood) box?

Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.

I remember someone tried to sell me charcoal for 750k, I said they r scamming and that I would report them but then they said they weren't. It turns out someone had sold it to the girl for 500k so she wanted to make a profit...I wasn't sure what to do :-s

Thanks Lil_Atza for the sig!

I merchant alot, and because of that I almost daily see people trying to sell charcoals, empty boxes or polished buttons. But not for the price they're, but for around 50k-500k. This is nothing else than a scam. I really think JAGeX should make these items into p2p, so this scamming could stop. Because alot of people gets ripped off for scams like these every day, and that's not good.

Add me if you so wish: SwreeTak

charcoal can be made by cutting dead trees even in f2p worlds so its a bit different from polished buttons and the box wich can only be obtained on member worlds.

oh and add sliced bananas to that list. it can be made in f2p by using a knife on a banana but its only used in members just like charcoal. ive seen people scam with them too.

I just tried doing it and I didn't get a lump of charcoal. Do you have to do anything special to get it? Or is it just a chance?

You're being watched.

You can get Charcoal by chopping dead trees in both F2P and P2P, atleast that's how i remember it.

Some people dream of success, while others make it happen.

Yes you can get em in f2p. Dead trees are located in the wildy...

- Back to casual f2p scaping due to limited time (university and girlfriend <3:) -

why do you call it a scam? They have their own right to sell anything on any price anywhere, and we have right to choose: buy it, or not. If they would say that an item does something it doesn't (free teleports/money etc. etc.) then it would eb a scam.

The clock is ticking, and your time is running out, mortals.

To take a 100% F2P example...

1. "Selling tiles, 50k each" (nothing wrong with that, though other players will no doubt drown out the calls with "stfu, tiles are useless)

2. "Selling tiles, 50k each"

2a. "Buying tiles, 100k" - if a partner establishes a false market, then THAT is a scam

What IS the point of tiles?

in that case its not a scam according to the RS rules BUT if you ask them if they call it rare and they say yes or somethling similar they are scamming because calling something rare when its not is scamming (again, according to RS rules)

Technically, no. If they said it was a rare item, though, then yes, it is a scam.

They can set whatever price they wish.
